This was some of the finest food I have had in Queens. We went there after the counter had closed. All they were serving was tacos prepared outside. We ordered pastor, chorizo, and cabeza. All three tacos were impeccable. I will give special mention to the chorizo. It had a very different flavor from other choris I've eaten. It was even, fatty, rico, and flavorful. I chatted with them about that, and it turns out they make their own. The cabeza (beef cheek) also deserves a mention. Just like the chori, it was perfectly seasoned without being over-seasoned. In that way, it was very much like provincial cooking. The cabeza was super velvety, stewed... just perfect. The location is a storefront in Queens, and it's exactly what you should expect from a family storefront in Queens. You're not going for fine linen. You go for the finest NYC Mexican food. And you're also going to get a bons serving of the friendliest people on Earth. We loved every second. It helps to know Spanish. Don't be all pissed off if you don't and you can't keep up. read more

Very hard to find authentic Mexican cuisine even in an area of NYC loaded with Mexican culture and food. Not sure what region they are from however I am pleasantly surprised. The daily specials all looked del and the Chicken in a spicy pumpkin seed sauce was sold out. They let me try the sauce and it was slammin! I ordered 2 Quesadillas at 12.00 each. Menu online is outdated but they adjusted the prices in house with a pen. Huitlacoche ( corn fungus or smut) made with onions and some added corn Flor de calabaza ( Zucchini flowers) Both with no overpowering seasoning and not over salted The staff do not speak English so considering I speak Spanglish and understand most cuisines it was easy for me. They are very friendly!!! Somehow someway the man (Abuelo) knew I am genetically Italian. Again super friendly staff. Outside is the taco grill inside another grill plus the kitchen. This is definitely a NYC hole in the wall prize like many spots in Queens. It's not a 5 star ripoff joint and don't expect Tex Mex Bring a friend more don't you will be happy read more

Food here is absolutely delicious. I had the huitlacoche quesadilla. You can really taste how fresh the tortillas are! The filling was rich and savory, and tasted great with the salsas on the side. I also tried the atole, which was warm and subtly sweet with nice blue corn flavor. For a total of $16 (in cash), this meal was also a great deal. It's worth the trip! read more

Opened for the last twenty years, this cute Mexican place was DELICIOUS. The pork tortillas were outstanding (pics below). really liked squeezing the lemon juice over the meat. The service is amazing and the way they cook the corn tortillas over limestone makes the flavor simply unlike tortillas you can buy at the store or at a fast food location. The bathroom was decently clean and the store employees were gracious enough to let us come in a bit earlier than their opening time since it was so cold outside. Even though they had just opened for the day, we were able to get our food served to us decently fast and it was superb! Note: this was the second spot of many on a queens food tour that my group of friends and I went on today. A little out of the way from more of the popular places throughout ny but definitely worth the trip. Tacos are made right outside the restaurant and they're amazing. They don't really speak English but not a problem, it's not hard to order some taco. There's 3 choices and they make them really well so no need to panic. Great place to come at night, chill outside with they make the tacos, and just sit down inside and enjoy some really good food. Almost forgot to mention, they're super cheap! read more

i went all the way to queens for the zoo. there was no way i didn't leave without eating some food. i got intrigued by this food stand and it looked cheap so i ordered. the woman cooking didn't know english so i had to go through the depths of my brain and conjure up the little spanish that was still inside me. omg it sucked. i need to relearn spanish how embarrassing is that. but then turns out the stand outside is connected to the restaurant inside. and the nice woman who was at the register spoke english which was nice and then i got my food. it was so good. my friend got this huge horchata and it was really yummy too. she got this vegetable thing but ima be honest- i forgot what it looked like and tasted like. but the cashier woman recommended it and she did not miss. overall, this was an awesome place and i hope to be back here one day if my studies don't kill me. read more

3.5 stars but rounded up because this was such a value meal. Their indoor kitchen was under construction so we ate at the adjoining taco cart stationed right outside. The deal was 4 tacos for $6. You cannot find deals like this anymore! We got the pastor, chorizo, and beef head. All were pretty good and flavorful, although pretty oily and had fatty chunks in the taco. Tacos had the meat of choice, onion, cilantro, and lime. If you're not a big fan of cilantro (like myself), they do put a lot of cilantro, but the strong cilantro taste wasn't that apparent/bothersome for me. So I would say keep the cilantro on because it adds a contrasting texture to the rest of the taco. Would come again if I was craving tacos for the value. Love it their weekend carnitas are the absolute best. I love the buche and cueritos. Surtida is the regular mix with a little bit of cueritos. Machiza is the lean meat. Bathroom is in the back just ask. At night they transition to street tacos with solid cabeza, longaniza pastor and suadero. But those carnitas. read more

Absolutely loved this place. Got there a bit later at night and got three pastor tacos and some grilled green onions. The man at the counter was very nice and didn't charge for the onions and charged me less for the tacos (perks of being pregnant, lol). They were double tortilla tacos and had enough filling that I actually made it into a six taco dinner (I know, six tacos, not a single regret!). The quality of the meat was great, had very little greasy parts and was very tasty. Enjoyed every bite, topped with cilantro and chopped onions, and a few bites of pickled jalapeños and carrots. stumbled upon this place while in corona. you will find locals here in. by the time we got here, a little after 9PM, we could only order tacos because the kitchen was closed. the tacos here are the real deal. they have a taco stand outside for the late night crowd and you can get it to go or eat inside. we got some al pastor and chorizo tacos, which are $2.5 each for the regular sized ones. they have specials on small versions of these as well from Tuesdays to Saturdays for about $1.5. they also had lengua (tongue) tacos for the adventurous. but the tacos are double tortillas with onions, cilantro and lime. the salsa roja was quite spicy. get a bottle of jarritos and you are all set. helpful to know a little Spanish to read the menu and talk to the waitresses. but overall, very nice folks here and tasty food. would come back to try their full menu. read more

I think they are still in the process of opening. But they do have a tortilla machine and have handmade flour tortillas. So it is all good, Yummy! The decor is a bit of a mess, but hopefully it will be cleaned up in the future. There is this rather loud annoying yellow light and bell that blasted while I was there, that hopefully will be sorted out shortly. The Carnitas tacos were mouthwateringly good. They were both crunchy and melt in your mouth goodness. The squeeze bottle hot sauce was also spicy and really tasty(I think it is homemade). Corona is a serious cheap-eats destination neighborhood. Franco's, Leo's, Nixtimal, Corona Ice King, Empanadas and now La Estancia are all excellent choices. Just wish TimmyO's were still around. read more

La Estancia de la Spiga serves seriously delicious Mexican food in a humble setting. There are a few two-tops, but otherwise you will share a long table with other patrons. Tortillas are made on premises, so the tacos are amazingly fresh -- and filled generously. The enchiladas verdes were surprisingly spicy in a good way. The beef filling was nicely charred. It helps if you speak a little menu Spanish because not everything on the menu is translated. The staff is friendly. You can buy tortillas by the pound. There was also a huge display of chicharron at the front counter. One of the intriguing items on the menu is gorditas de chicharron, which I'll have to try next time! read more
