It's definitely a hole in the wall type of spot, which usually means you're about to eat really good. You walk in and it's busy with people who are clearly stoked to be there eating their food. The guy at the register was awesome too. Super friendly and welcoming. I'm also a sucker for a good salsa bar, and they have EVERYTHING. Green salsa, red salsa, chipotle sauce, creamy sauces, you name it. Once I saw that, I knew we were in for something good. I got the Surf & Turf tacos and they were insanely good. Loaded with flavor and way more filling than I expected. Two tacos had me stuffed, which is saying something. This is a must try if you're even remotely on the fence. I love finding spots like this. This place seriously gets all the flavors right! From the organic, non-GMO masa to the freshly made salsas, you can tell they care about the quality of their food. The fish taco and shrimp tacos were some of my favorites, but the loaded baked potato was also a must--it had just the right amount of cheese and meat. And the gordita was STACKED! I've been coming here every so often since they first opened and the food is amazing. My husband and I always order the loaded fries and some tacos. The loaded fries are packed with flavor. Their fries are thinner than regular fries, so it's really easy to grab with a fork. My favorite thing about their tacos is that they only use one tortilla, rather than two. Their meat is also flavorful. Their salsa bar has various choices and includes salsa, cilantro, onions, cucumbers, radishes, and limes. The workers are always very friendly and provide good service. My only complaint and reason that I give 3 stars is that the actual location is not the best. While that area in Colton needs a good taco spot, unfortunately the shopping plaza they are in sometimes makes me decide if I wanna go there or not. The parking is very limited. They share parking with a Uhaul truck pickup location so there has always been Uhaul trucks parked in the parking spots every time I go, making it hard to find a close spot. The actual restaurant inside has limited seating. I've only gone like twice where I was able to find a place to sit right away, but most of the time I am watching others like a hawk waiting for them to be done eating. They recently added outside seating as well, which is fine, but I like eating inside at restaurants usually. The last thing that I will say about the location is that they have a fly problem. While it's not an infestation, it makes eating inside really uncomfortable since you have to be constantly swatting the few that are flying around the dining area. This was not just a one-time occurence. Every time I have gone, there have always been flies, big and small, flying around. Overall, I think the food is good, but only if you have it for takeout. If you go on a slow day where there is seating and parking, consider yourself lucky. read more

The horchata was also very tasty and tasted fresh. But the salsa bar is the best part. Seriously, this is the best salsa bar I've ever seen! So many great options, and that thick chipotle salsa is BOMB! I actually came here two days in a row! This place is so good! We don't take advantage enough when we get the cravings for tacos, but when we do it's well worth it. The tortillas are always fresh and the meat is delicious. The best things are the salsas! So much flavor! Some of them carry so much heat! We've tried the tacos, mulitas and vampiros. Unfortunately, the food here is so bad and my first choice was to Del Taco because when you go there you don't have any high expectations. My wallet is now $50 lighter SMDH. 4/5 Jamaica Agua Fresca not too bad. It was on point, but I like mine with more tart. 1/5 All of their salsas are too salty not to my liking, especially their cilantro salsa, which was way too salty WTH. 2/5 2 chicken tacos Although the tortilla was OK, the chicken had an OK grilled flavor, it was bland and flavorless. 1/5 Fish burrito. They got a huge piece of fish, but it was too oily flavor and soggy and the burrito itself was bland and flavorless. It would have been better without the beans and put some tarter slaw. I took only a couple of bites and threw it all away, how sad. 1/5 Carne A$$ada burrito was so oily, the carne A$$ada had a nice grilled flavor but lacked in flavor and marinade and most of the carne A$$ada was overcooked. I took 2 bites and threw in the towel SMDH. 1/5 Carne A$$ada Mulita. This was also bland and flavorless. At least the shell was crunchy and that's about it. Hit and miss with the service. Place is awfully cramped and usually there's nowhere to wait in line. There's always someone getting 89 salsas at the bar so even though it's hands-down the best salsa bar in town it's always a pain to get your condiments. Food is delicious! Carne asada and Adobada tacos are what I've had and did not disappoint! The salsa bar offers delicious salsas and sides. Service is fast, and friendly. I am deducting a star because the restaurant is always hot (I get it, meat is cooking, etc) but it seems very hot almost like the AC is not on. Seating is almost impossible, but that speaks to their delicious food. All in all I will return but those are my only gripes. read more

We have been loyal customers since this restaurant first opened, but unfortunately, we've watched both the food and service quality decline significantly over time. On multiple occasions, we've ordered tacos de tripa specifically asking for them "not crispy," only to receive them completely overcooked and hard, resembling chicharrón. When we politely bring this up to the staff, they become defensive and blame us, claiming we need to request it at the front register--even though we already do. Beyond the service issues, the food quality has grown inconsistent. Recently, several of the meats we ordered tasted stale, as if they had been sitting in the refrigerator for too long rather than being prepared fresh. Combined with the very cramped seating space, it's becoming harder to justify coming back. I don't usually leave negative reviews, but this experience at Tacos El Callejon needs to be shared. I visited with a client and spent about $51. I ordered a surf & turf burrito to-go, and my client ordered a Cali burrito for here, along with two different drinks. Very straightforward order. They gave us the wrong burritos. My client actually started eating the one placed in front of him and noticed shrimp inside -- that's how we realized it was mine. I went back to the counter calmly and asked if they could remake my burrito since I wasn't comfortable eating food that had already been bitten. They agreed and brought out what was supposed to be a new burrito. Before leaving, I checked it -- and the top was already open and looked like it had been folded back together. It appeared to be the same burrito that had already been eaten from. At this point, I had to go back a third time to address the issue. Instead of an apology or concern, I was met with attitude and a lack of accountability. It felt like I was being treated as if I had done something wrong for simply asking for a fresh, untouched meal. On top of that, the overall interaction left me feeling uncomfortable. The tone, body language, and lack of professionalism from the owner and staff created an environment that didn't feel welcoming, and it's hard to ignore how that came across. To make matters worse, after sharing my experience publicly, the owner continued to go back and forth with me online rather than taking accountability or offering any kind of apology. Ok. This is the taco of all taco places. All their meats are tasty which you don't always get with street tacos. The pace is small and hard to find parking during lunch time but it's worth the wait.
