    Birria tacos
    Heidi M.

Such authentically delicious tacos and rice & beans! AND they have birria? I can't say whether it's the best in town but I'm so glad I don't have to travel far and wide to find them anymore - it's right here in my own backyard. Recently I ordered birria tacos, suadero/beef brisket tacos, lengua/beef tongue tacos and rice & beans -- all sooo good. I can't believe I missed out on the al pastor but that's definitely happening next time. Price tags are pretty reasonable, ranging from $3-$5/taco. We skipped out on the consome for the birria because we actually had some left over from somewhere else (lmao slight birria obsession) but I'd recommend ordering it with the tacos. I came by a separate time just to order a few boxes of rice & beans for a potluck dinner. Tacos el Chicken is now one of my go-to spots!

There was a promotion going on grubhub and I decided to use it to try thus food truck. I tried their beef burrito/chicken tortas and they were authentic in taste, which I loved. The only downside was that they gave only 1 sauce for both items, which was not enough. Partly, I guess it is my fault that I didn't ask for a lot of sauce on special instruction. Otherwise, price is very reasonable and I would definitely try other foods here!

Twice I've had their al pastor tacos, birria tacos, and flautas. AL pastor is the way to go here! All tacos come with grilled onions and jalapeño garnish that I could have a whole bowlful of. Each taco has been full flavored, with excellently marinated and moist proteins, and considerable portions. The truck sits on the bend of the corner with pretty relaxed foot traffic and without a line. There are omnivore and few veggie options for take out and delivery. I recommend delivery as take out outside can get cold and sometimes service can be matter-of-fact. Delivery person was super kind and arrived in an efficient time with the food warmly served. Heads up: The flautas on menu say they are chicken, but they actually are chicken and then cheese, two of each with heaps of rice and beans. The rice & beans were delicious and not too salty, actually as tasty as the rest of the meal when beans can become the background sometimes at establishments like this. Also, Birria tacos are soft and without cheese but the meat quality has gorgeous structure and is bold comforting and tastes well made. If you're expected crispy tacos to dip with consommé, that's not available and there's no fixed price strangely. The salsa verde and roja each had a punch of spicy without being overwhelming. The smoky richness of the red salsa is memorablr and you're going to want extra. No lies... get extra! Overall, very good meals and prices aren't cheap but decent without being steep.

I pass by this truck pretty often since it's only a few blocks away from my apartment. Since I've always been terrified to eat from food trucks, I wanted to make sure the food was edible first. Since there was only 1 other Yelp review, I decided to look around Facebook for some more reviews. Thankfully, a bunch of members of the Kensington Facebook group had a lot to say. Reviews on the group page were better than expected. Most people mentioned that there is a line midday and out of about 30 people reviewing the truck, only a few of them had mildly negative things to say. I figured since nobody mentioned food poisoning or death, I was good to go. My girlfriend ordered chicken flautas. She said they were slightly dry and "pretty good but not the best I've ever had." I got beef tostadas which were very flavorful and moist but a bit salty. I would come back here if I was in a rush, but this food truck isn't my first choice.

The only real food truck in the area Tacos el Chicken provides great Mexican Street food not found in any of the typical Mexican restaurants. This place introduced me to a lot of Mexican dishes I was unfamiliar with. Sopes and Tlacoyo are really interesting since they have a doughy base which I was unfamiliar with. They also offer a variety of different meats like salted beef, and steamed goat which isn't an option in regular Mexican restaurants. The food itself is very good, with tender meat and good bases. It takes a little while for you to get your food if there is a enough people that already ordered (and in the winter it can be a little miserable to stand around waiting) but it is worth it for the quality of the food. If I have one complain its that sometimes the hours here are weird to me and the truck isn't open on days you expect them to be. I would highly recommend coming to this place if you like Mexican and you want to explore something more authentic.

Came here based on the reviews and didnt think it lived up to expectations. Ordered three different tacos. The chicken, steak, and carne asada. They do make homemade tortilla's but they were a little grainy and dry. Not bad but not the best i have had. The meat was flavorful but the hot sauce overpowered the tacos. Without the hot sauce it had decent flavor but i have had better.

I wasn't very happy with this food truck and am not sure how it got a 4.5 star. But I feel that it could be my fault to why I was not satisfied. I ordered a burrito which was not on he menu. Do not get the burrito. It wasn't bad but I have had much better. Not 4.5 star worthy. We also ordered the nachos which were pretty solid. They are worth 4.5 stars and the sauce was pretty good. I would give them a 3.5 overall but that isn't an option. Was priced fairly nachos were great sauce was great burrito was very mediocre. I've had a salad from here before and the salad was overpriced but delish. I will probably be back as this is one of the better options in the area.

The truck reads 318 "Nervin" St Brooklyn, NY 11215 but it's usually posted up outside at Walgreens 114 Beverley Rd, Brooklyn, NY 11218.

We had made reservations for the kitchen counter seats. Thinking we would be able to watch the masters at work. However, the seating is too low and you cannot see into the kitchen. So there's that. The service was really lovely. Constantly checking in for more water or if we needed anything. We started off with their Mezcal cocktail, which my husband loved. And I had a flight of sake. I wasn't in love with any of them. But they were all palatable. We shared the Shishido peppers which were absolutely amazing. Highly recommended. We asked for some soy sauce on the side and find that an occasional dip of the pepper really brings out the flavor. We also shared the Wagyu Tataki. The presentation is lovely as it is for all the dishes. However, I found it slightly chewy. But the accompaniments were outstanding. We also shared a 14 ounce 30 day dry aged New York strip. Presented beautifully. Cooked perfectly medium rare. Accompaniments and sauces. Also terrific. However, we did not find that the steak had any actual flavor. But it was smooth and easy to chew. The espresso machine was broken, bummer. But we had a pot of tea and their warm apple pie with vanilla ice cream for dessert. Delicious.

This is not the city for Mexican food, I do not care who tries to sway me. It simply. Does not. Work. The trend continues at this tiny cantina in Dyker Heights. I paid $40 for mediocrity, maybe even a step or two below it. The staff is friendly and cute, and speaking Spanish will get you further, but the food drops off significantly after the promising chips and dip. When I ordered the Queso Fundido, I was looking forward to a sharp Mexican blend with ground chorizo and some extra chips to boot. Instead I got what looked like blended Oaxaca cheese, an onion top, and some very unattractive bits of chorizo that were begging me not to eat them. So I did not. I ate the cheese because the cheese was pleasant, but the fact it comes with flour tortillas does not help its cause. When I ordered the Tortilla Soup, I was hoping for a nice blend of Mexican spices, shredded chicken, avocado, and tortilla strips. While I did get that, I also got bland flavors and a lack of any personality with the soup. In fact, it had a weird, milky, creamy broth that made me feel uncomfortable about finishing it. So I did not. When I ordered the fish tacos, I was expecting a nice piece of fresh fish, plenty of spicy pico, and an aoli to round out the whole thing. The breading for the fish is a tempura breading (bad call), and the fish they use is tilapia (an even worse call). I understand that this is not San Diego, but these two pieces of fish were practically begging me to put them out of their misery so I could send them packing for the Golden State at a later time. I duly complied. As I walked out I continued to wonder. Will this city ever get it right with a cuisine I hold close to my heart? Because right now, the future is looking bleak. At least my food was spared from further torture.
