This is a little food truck and the food is amazing. They have friendly service. There's a small space where you can sit and eat. They keep it cool inside. Food portions are small compared to other restaurants. Prices are average. I may or may not go back. I love my neighborhood taco man! This little shack has been build on and built on to a lil cozy dining area. The tacos this guy makes are the best you can get for only a dollar. His pastor and lengua are really good. and asada is also superb for those who are not experimental. He is also vegan option for those who are. he is cash only and really nice. Hours are 12:00pm to about 9:00pm though sometimes he'll stay late if business is good. If you do go there late, do not be surprised if he runs out of a few things. Still on my search for the best tacos in PDX, I came upon Taqueria Uruapan on a triangle corner next to a BBQ shack and a burger shack. It's a taco truck (no bathroom for you) with a patio built out front some plastic siding and a roof. When it's not raining one can sit out front in the parking lot on a couple tables. The tacos: I've had most of the offerings here and all have been either solid or excellent. The best options are the pollo (tied with another for the best in PDX) and the al pastor. The carnitas and carne asada are not to be shrugged off. Accommodations aside, high point is the low cost ($1.50 a taco) and the excellent homemade salsas. NOTE: This place does not have consistent hours or offerings. If you do happen to come upon them when they are open and have all their offerings ready to go, however, you will not be disappointed. These is definitely some of the best tacos I've had in PDX. read more

I noticed this place hasn't had a new review in about two years, so I wanted to add a more current review: My favorite place for tacos in Portland. I will admit their burritos leave much to be desired, but lets focus on the positives here. They also serve chavindecas a Michoacan specialty that are basically mini quesadillas with taco meat in them. Delicious. Currently $1.25 for tacos and $1.75 for chavindecas, and they have all the usual meat: chorizo, carnitas, lengua, pollo cabe, buche, asada, pastor and tripa. Tripa or fried tripe is definitely my favorite, a beguiling soft/chewy/crispy meat that tastes like bacon and innards. It's not for everyone, but Taqueria Uruapan's are the best I've ever had. The chorizo and carnitas are also above par, and round out my favorite combo of tacos. They also serve regular quesadillas and have homemade hot sauce, one red and one green, both are great. The tacos here are small but flavorful, so plan on ordering quite a few if you're hungry. It doesn't amount to much more than a shack, this place is small and dingy, but also homey and the staff (all both of them) are very friendly. I grew up in Southern California, born to a father who loves all things Mexico, and cute little Mexicana stepmom. I was raised to LOVE street tacos and such. So, I was excited to find Taqueria Uruapan in my yelp search. It looked like taco Mecca. First, I want to note that this is not a brick-and-mortar taco joint. It's actually a food truck in a very small parking lot with a couple of other vendors. I drove around looking for it before I recognized this fact. So, trying to help. (You're welcome!) This food was pretty good. It is traditionally prepared, which is great. But the quality wasn't what we were hoping for. I got a couple of carnitas taco for my son. He complained several times about "tissue" in the meat. There was connective tissue and fat in the tacos. But the flavor was good. I had nachos. The chips were thick and tasted stale. The chicken on top was ok. But I wouldn't order the nachos again. If we go back, I'll try a torta for sure. I got my fiancé three tacos (carne asada, pollo asada, and carnitas) in a combo. He said all was quite good and he finished the whole plate fairly quickly. (He grew up in Southern California and just moved to Portland from Orange County, so his standards are high as well.) So, we have mixed reviews. I might try Uruapan again. It's close. It's cheap. The guy was very nice. And, it's authentic. But I would keep to tacos or try the tortas. Definitely grab some of the pickled onions and other homemade goodies from the counter while you wait. You'll be happy when you sit down to your meal. The sauces are good! read more

One of Portland's great alternate-zoned restaurants. Whether you eat in at the functional seating space or take to go, the kitchen is clean & well tended. Great prices esp. the tacos ($1) with no charge fixings (sour cream, cheese, grilled onions, etc.) & amazingly tasty accompaniments: heat-smitten salsas, vinegary onions, & bright peppers. Right off the grill & just the right crispy texture, Chorizo is the tops but try tripe when you get a chance. This ugly shack shares a more or less vacant lot with a coffee stand, and occasionally a Christmas tree lot and air-brushed rug vendor. You can buy discount cigs across the street. The really funny thing about this wonderful taco shack, other than the greatness of the tacos, is how much fun it can be to follow it around. I first noticed it in the parking lot of a tienda/panaderia several years ago. The tacos were great, the salsas varied and fantastic, and the prices were nice at a buck a taco. Then one day I drove to the lot and there were no tacos to be had. Stricken, I got my fix at La Sirenita. Shortly after, the shack appeared in its current location at Prescott and Cully, but that was short-lived. Then it was gone for awhile, eventually popping up on a corner on the street where Killingsworth and Portland are merged, close to the Sugar Shack. This was annoying, parking was terrible, the location was loud, and that lasted only a few weeks. Then once again the taqueria, my willow-the-wisp rose from the ashes, a phoenix of yumminess, on the corner of Prescott and Cully (it's right by the Albertson's). It's been there for several years now, so hopefully it's there to stay. Anyway, one dollar tacos that are delicious and tortas that are very good. They don't seem to usually have burritos, but that's okay by me. They're usually really friendly if they aren't busy. They tacos are small, get a grip of them, you're still waking out for 5 bucks. read more

Been searching for a solid taco truck with reasonable prices, and this fits the bill. A lot of these taco trucks don't seem to marinate and season the meats, but this place definitely does. Tried the carne asada, chicken, and al pastor tacos - all were excellent! I could probably eat 100 of these in one sitting. $1.50 per taco, haven't tried the burrito yet, but if the tacos tell me anything, it should be pretty good. The best tacos I've found in Portland! I love this place. The owner is so nice, and he always puts up with me wanting to practice my Spanish with him. I've had the tacos (my favorites are chicken and chorizo) and burritos, and I've loved everything I've ever gotten. The homemade salsas can't be beat either! The hours can be spotty, and it's cash only. Also, he sometimes runs out of things.
