It's a pity (or a blessing) that so few gringos seem to know it exists. Indeed, even the few who have seen it seem ignorant that it has a lunch counter inside. And yet fewer know that it's any good. But after loving it since I first got here, and after hearing the constant ravings of students and friends alike about Tacos el Jarocho (a decent, Mexican hole-in-the-wall on Market Street), I had no choice but to round up two friends and conduct a taste test . Results were uniformly in favor of Voluntad de Dios. From the texture of the beef to the tastiness of the chorizo -- even the beauty of the presentation or the plumpness of the lime -- Voluntad won hands down. And though the taco de rez at Jarocho held it's own, the chorizo was hard, tasteless and truly reminiscent of cardboard. All three of us preferred all three tacos from Voluntad. Sure, Tacos el Jarocho deserves some credit for its proximity to Wabash and for making a stab at authentic Mexican street food in the heart of Crawfordsville. But if you want a Hoosier taco from a place that would hold its own in Chula Vista, Voluntad de Dios is the will of G-d.

I am very pleased to report that this establishment could hold its own with any of the fine taco…read moreestablishments in Southern California. Let me compare it with Taco Mesa, a restaurant similar in style and price point (and highly rated among yelpers) in Southern California. Quality--neck and neck. I've tried the pork, chicken, and steak in both places and I would say that Botanica beats Mesa in the steak category, in terms of juiciness and flavor. It's too close to call for the pork, with Mesa having a slight (very slight) edge over Botanica. Chicken-wise, both are comparable. Botanica puts its tacos on two tortillas (instead of one) and also offers plenty of fresh lime, onions, cilantro, and salsas (medium and hot). Price--both offer great tacos at around $2 apiece. Mesa has seafood tacos that run in the $4 range, plus a wider selection. But for what it does offer, Botanica gives a strong showing with quality menu items at great prices. Atmosphere--different settings. Botanica is a lunch counter in a small Mexican grocery, which gives it a cool, hidden feeling. Most people in town hadn't heard of this place, till my esteemed colleague Ethan H. tipped us off to it. Now it's a regular spot for many of us, and it's the main place I take people to for a quick and delicious lunch. There are only about 4 stools at the counter, and you're right next to the laundry detergent, but I don't mind, especially since you're also next to the fridge with a plentiful selection of drinks. All on all, I highly recommend Botanica. Great place for a good lunch, and you can do your grocery shopping on the same trip. Be sure to stock up on dry cinnamon sticks while you're there.

I work local to this Taco Bell, and it is by far one of the worst locations I have ever been to…read more But due to the limited number of choices for fast food in this town I keep coming back like a beaten dog. I'll waive them off of my "go to list" for a month or two here or there and then think, "well maybe they are better now", but they never are. Even after massive staff and management turnover, it never changes. They routinely get your order wrong, at least 50% of the time. Most of the time the food that you do get, is built improperly and falls apart, or is much smaller (in the case of things like burritos and grillers) than they should be, as compared to other TB locations I have been to.. The service is also is very, very slow. It's not unusual to have to wait for 30 minutes for a (single person) food order. Today, I stood at the counter for 20+ minutes (while staff walked by) without even being acknowledged. The staff was far too busy trying to get 3 GrubHub orders out the door than to deal with actual walk-in customers. I and at least 2 other customers walked out and left in exasperation. I personally went to another restaurant down the road instead. I give this restaurant 2 stars, because 2 out of 5 is 40%, which about the percentage of times that the service and quality of the food has been passible at this location.

Took 30 minutes longer than the time given in the app to get my food although there was exactly one other customer in the building. While I was standing there waiting I could see the employees working very slowly while all dancing and singing without a care in the world. Also while I was waiting, could hear the manager (Jolene) joke with one of her employees about throwing food at the customers. Never again.

I placed an order for a steak quesadilla (light on the creamy jalapeno sauce) and one crunchy taco…read moresupreme. I ate the crunchy taco right away...like, in the parking lot and opened my quesadilla once we were further down the road. We were on our way to Illinois and I was driving. Had I opened the quesadilla sooner, I would've turned around and gone right back to the restaurant. I first noticed that the cheese in the quesadilla wasn't fully melted. I could still see distinct shreds of cheese. Then, I began to look for the steak. The quesadilla is cut into four parts, so I pulled out half of it and began eating one of the middle slices. There wasn't one bit of steak in the entire portion. I thought I'd been given a plain, cheese quesadilla. When it came to the end portion, there were a few (literally 3 or 4) small, dry pieces of steak. The same was true of the other half. For $7.49, this was a complete rip off. I should mention that as soon as I pulled up to the drive-thru speaker, they immediately informed us that they didn't have any chicken or a certain type of beverage. I can't recall exactly which one, but I'm guessing that they were nearly out of steak as well and just gave me the few pieces that they had left. The taco was good. Had they told me that they were out of steak, I would've just had more tacos. Very disappointing.

Beware!! This cheapskate location only gives you half the ingredients of other TB's. What a joke…read more If I'm gonna pay $8 for a burrito, I'll go to Chipotle. Taco Bell sucks.
