There was a bit of a wait since they were busy with the after church crowd, but the food was well worth the wait. It was fresh, flavorful, and seasoned well. I got the number one (which is a plate of tacos) and it came with two sauces on the side. One was salsa but the other I can't quite place. It was delicious. So good that I wanted to go back for dinner the same night. read more

We've seen the food truck several times driving on Willow. We stopped on Tuesday to try it. The food was wonderful! We had the Sopes and a quesadilla. Both came with pickled veggies and guacamole. The flavors are different from most Mexican food we've had locally. Reminds me of meals I've eaten in Mexico. Certainly not your chain Tex-Mex food! We'll definitely be back for more! read more

Went there today with an apetite and an open mind. The menu looked good, and I chose the taco plate. When asked what meat I wanted, I asked the teenage kid taking orders "what do you have that's tender (just had dental work done)? He told me that nothing's tender. Okay how about beef tacos? "We don't have beef." Okay, see ya later! read more

I had heard about a salsa bar at a taqueria and so we headed over to try Taqueria Don Carbon. We ordered camarones a la diabla, birria tacos w/carne asada, nachos and ALL the salsas. Not everything is pictured. All the salsas are spicy and flavorful. The salsa verde has a traditional tang that I love, the guacamole salsa was the hottest and the two red salsas were hot and very hot. My nose is still running. The chips were warm and salty. All of the food was rich with traditional flavors. Onion, garlic, and chilis galore. The rice was moist and full of flavor and the beans tasted homemade and yummy. They definitely weren't and afterthought. The birria tacos with consomé got a rave review from my husband. He said they were one of the best things he's ever eaten. Oh and the corn tortillas were homemade and served piping hot. They gave us a ton of them. The salsa bar! I'll keep going back just for the salsa bar. If you love authentic Mexican salsas then you HAVE TO go to this place. The serving sizes were large and we brought a lot of the food home, enough for another meal easily. Ambiance was classic taqueria, nothing fancy about this place except the food! The salsa bar was clean and self serve! Bonus points for speaking Spanish to the two guys working there. I love speaking Spanish! They were friendly and helpful. The bill for all of our food was $20!! I highly recommend this place to anyone craving west coast taqueria flavors. I even had time to get out of our car in order to read the menu as to be ready with our order (need a menu cars can read b4 reaching order taker!), to be expedient. Finally got to order taking step and out of: Strawberry syrup, chocolate syrup, lactose free flavors and bananas, and who knows what else, as those are only the items that affected our order! Finally got through that ordeal and pulled up to the window. Imagine our surprise when, after paying just a hair under $20, we got a banana split, with no banana as expected, but also without the sauces my husband ordered! It was plain, save for some paltry crushed nuts. My "medium" sundae, the largest offered, was in a 9oz cup, not even filled up, see picture taken. When I questioned the girl at the window if I had indeed received the "medium", she assured me that I had, and that "it was even measured"! Oh my. My advice? Unless they see the light on customer service and make ordering changes to ensure Saturday night crowds get what they want, there will be no more crowds! Cream City, all the way.

Whether it's wanting to take a break from the large platters we have in the morning usually on these trips are just genuinely craving something sweet, most donut shops are just okay. Ralphs was a genuine find. Not only was the glazed exactly like in an old-fashioned--the sourdough taste and such good nook and crannies texture-wise--but that maple bar was probably the best one I've ever eaten. The donut was soft and pillowy with a good chew to it. But that maple topping was like the perfect texture; it was runny but still had real heft to it. It was like someone put pure molten maple on top and if you shook it too hard like a wet dog it would all just go flying. Every bite I wish I could repeat because it was a donut that seemed to go by too fast. The counter person couldn't have been more friendly. She was like tidal wave of warmth and kindness to us. I wish all folks who worked morning shifts could be this nice. The ambiance was good. It was a little tiny with the counter space. But the fact it is a donut shop and not a restaurant makes the fact they could pack in twenty or so seats at all amazing. And of course they'd be packed with customers sitting shoulder-to-shoulder. If I lived close to a donut shop like this , I'd want to come every morning for my donuts and coffee. I'd definitely get fat here. Overall, this is my ideal donut shop. There's a reason we made the 60 mile drive here for a few donuts and milk, and then drove 60 miles back to the hotel. There are just some donut joints that are worth a 120-mile donut run.

We drove all the way from Nashville to Cookeville for the privilege of buying a dozen of these heavenly donuts. Nothing inventive really. But a flavor profile that wins every time.
