Wow! I tried this spot with my sister on a whim because she was craving Mexican food. They did not disappoint! I wasn't sure what to expect entering because it looks like a deli when you first walk in but there is plenty of seating off to the left for dining in. The Aqua Fresca was amazing (Mango and Hibiscus). They have some of the best refried beans I have ever had in my life! I don't eat meat and ordered the vegetarian quesadillas and they were Superb! Nothing beats a fresh made quesadilla shell! While I wish the salsa was a bit more spicy it was still delicious! I will definitely be back to this establishment with the family. Delicious Mexican food!! These must have been family recipes because I've never had such rich tasting authentic Mexican food with layers of flavor. The woman who runs this place was so kind and provided excellent service. I couldn't decide on the tamales so she suggested I get one pork and one chicken. Let me tell you these were the best tamales I've ever had!! All our meals were large portions. For dessert we got the flan which was homemade and delicious. You may get confused like I did at first, thinking I was in a grocery store, but I looked left and saw people eating at the restaurant attached to it. I'll add this to my growing body of evidence that every good outlet mall has an authentic Mexican taqueria within a 5 minute drive. It's cozy, authentic, and very reasonably priced. I had the chicken torts. Breaded chicken served on a toasted roll, mayo, lettuce, and avocado. Good, but I've been spoiled by a life changing torta during our trip to Monterey, CA and nothing has seem to come close since then. I would have liked it if the avocado had been spread thinly instead of slices as the sandwich fell apart mid-bite. My husband had the steak tacos and spicy meat sope. The tacos, authentic and savory. BLUF: The most authentic Mexican food I have found in Orange. A must go to, hole in the wall spot. My friends and I were near Woodbury Commons when we decided to find a new restaurant to try. I quickly whipped out Yelp and Tacos Express & Deli was one of the top rated restaurants to pop up. After I told my buddies the name of the restaurant, they were skeptical because it honestly does sound nothing better than a cheap Taco Bell. But I had faith in my fellow yelpers and the 4.5 star rating coupled with a single $ make me fight for us to go. Finally, my friends relented and eventually they were quite happy that they did. As soon as I set my eyes on Tacos Express, I knew we had found a hole in the wall gem. The 'restaurant' is the first floor of a house with half of it being a Mexican mart. The other half had an assortment of tables and cultural murals across the wall. There was a small TV playing soccer in Spanish and not a single beat of salsa music was heard. Also, there must have been a family upstairs as we heard the patter of several children running around which gave us a chuckle. It was Saturday evening around 6PM and we were the only customers there, which was nice. Alrighty, to the food since that's what everyone is waiting for. I read that their tortillas were extremely fresh so I decided to go for a chimichanga with carne asada. The food came out reasonably quickly and in perfect quantity. My meal came with three chimichangas and a side of rice and beans. Man, this was some of the best Mex I've had in a while. The toritillas were fried to quality flakiness and the steak pieces were thick and juicy. The sour cream that was laid on top of the chimichangas seemed to just melt and blend in with the fresh guacamole. In total, the entire meal cost me $15 including a drink and a tip. My boyfriend and I were shopping at Woodbury Outlets and didn't want to eat at their boring, overpriced food court. I went on yelp and stumbled upon this little gem which was located about 2 miles away. Don't be deceived by its appearance because the food is very affordable and amazing! You're definitely not going to get this at the Woodbury Outlets food court! We parked right in front and didn't have to pay for parking. The place is on the first floor with half of the place being a little mart and the other half with seating for food along with a TV screen that was playing Caso Cerrado (when we were there). We went in around 5/6pm and there was only one other couple in there finishing their meal. The friendly lady that was helping us spoke both English and Spanish. My boyfriend ordered the beef quesadilla (which he said was delicious) and I ordered 3 tacos (2 shrimp, 1 steak). The shrimp was delicious and the steak was mediocre. I felt like it could have used more seasoning but they did not skimp on the meats for the tacos. Food came out pretty quickly. I also ordered a water and got a big water bottle. I was expecting tap water in a cup lol. Both our meals cost about $15 and they take credit cards. If this place was closer to home, I'd definitely return more than once! read more

Ok, I have to admit. This place looks completely sketch and a little in shambles on the outside. It was not my idea of the kind of place I wanted to go on a lunch date with my husband, HOWEVER, once I got over the awkward silence inside the "restaurant" (a side room next to a convenience store) because no music was playing and we were the only ones in there and we got our food, I found it to be fresh and quite good. I would compare it to the Mexican food we ate in San Diego. They use soft corn tortillas, not flour, and the fillings for my chicken soft tacos were simply: chicken, onion and cilantro. The chicken was dry to me and I could not eat a bite of my taco without washing it down with my drink. I personally don't care for refried beans so even though I tried them, I can't say if they were good or not. The rice was very good. We asked for chips and salsa even though it wasn't on the menu and the chips tasted homemade, but the salsa seemed to be jarred salsa to me with added cilantro. It didn't have that fresh tomato flavor I'm used to with fresh salsas. Over all--you will get a warm, tasty, more authentic tex mex meal here, but it's not the kind of place you'd go on a date. read more

Basically, anything on the menu is worth ordering. Whatever soup is on the menu, try it. The owners are lovely people. If you have any dietary requests, they are gladly respected. Don't let the fact that it's in Highland Mills or the low key decor fool you, this is serious Mexican food. The best evidence of this is the fact that during lunch hours, the place is packed with Mexican workers. Friends typically comment how fresh the ingredients taste. Opened my food to find it so unappealing.... everything was soggy and mushy. The beans had NO texture whatsoever and looked like a soup on the side. Quesadillas were filled with grated cheese and a couple of pieces of lettuce. Again everything was just like Mush inside. The beans and rice were okay... just a little over cooked and had no texture as well. The only thing that I was extremely happy about was the Salad. I can't believe I spent $34 on disgusting food.
