How to describe this place. Well, I think if you took the wheels off of a classic, stainless steel roach coach, enlarged it to the size of a McDonalds, added booths and air conditioning, you would about have it. I thought the ceiling tiles were a particularly nice touch. But you don't exactly dine at a Federal Heights taco stand for the setting. Sarcasm aside, I thought the food was tasty. A solid example of the Mexican street taco (I'm a sucker for carne asada). The salsa was very fresh, with strong cilantro-lime-onion overtones. We dropped by for the northside taco reunion tour. I went with the carnitas and the al pastor tacos (my two favorites). I had them with onions and cilantro. Both were very good. Prices are reasonable. I wish the Tacos Junior restaurants would add a salsa bar, but their regular sauces are pretty good as well. I must say, this Tacos Junior looked a bit cleaner and in better shape than some of the other ones to which I have been. Like Riza H., I was also confused by the lemon wedge. what is this place is it fast food or not? but what ever it is good, fresh and addictive. I tried it for the first time 2 nights ago and i have now been craving it the past two nights. although the guy who took my order didn't speak English very well he was honest and told me he didn't and between his few words of English and my strong Spanglish speaking skills we got what I wanted! the reason I question is it fast food is the bright yellow 70's style seating, but its fresh and have a butt ton of choices! and desserts! Stop 1 of the I Heart Tacos Ultimate Tour (northern). Others seemed disappointed with their tacos here. There are only about six or seven taco choices; for a place that has taco as the only food in their name, it's kind of misleading. (Lots and lots and LOTS of other Mexican food choices. The menu is somewhat daunting because you do have to make a choice eventually. In addition, handwritten signs with special items and drinks available that day. Wow.) We lucked out with our choices, though. I'd rate it 3.5 stars if that were an option. Son and I shared a suadero taco, the clear winner; a barbacoa taco, pretty good; and an al pastor taco with three not very savory pieces of pineapple, not very impressive but okay. The suadero was worth four or five stars. All the tacos were well loaded with meat, garnished with cilantro, and served on the usual stack of two smallish corn tortillas to support the filling. Suadero is supposed to be a tasty, "smooth" type of beef, sliced thin and not muscular or chewy. (There's debate on what cut of beef should be used.) This fit the description; it was moist and mildly spiced, extremely pleasant eating, and very smooth. I think if more of our group had ordered the suadero taco, there would have been more smiles. Tacos Junior is an odd place; sort of soulless despite the vast menu. If you don't have a basic grasp of Spanish, the menu might throw you off. No music. So scrupulously clean you could eat off the counter or tabletop, painfully bright yellow as the predominant tone. It's an okay place. I like the elote, but this is not the season for fresh corn. Oh yeah, they have possibly the world's best tres leches cake. This item is a standout. read more

Finally found a spot with great carne asada tacos!!!! Most places I have been to tends to be hit or miss. The meat is always cooked to perfection with fresh veggies and hot sauce. Unfortunately, I have not yet tried anything else on the menu, the tacos are just too good to pass up every time I am here. read more

On my quick tip from my phone, I listed that they don't have tamales and stuff, but I ordered the Asada Tostada... AWESOME!! The place is hellah clean, and the girls who take the orders will explain the food to you (not as polite, but about business and helpful). The bottled COKE is COLD and perfect. If you are looking for good authentic food... go here, its awesome. Also, the laundromat is next door, looking at the sign and building, you'd think it was together. Big burritos for a big place. I opted for a burrito, smothered in green, with carnitas. Sorry, but I got turned off as soon as I saw him put my styrofoam container in the microwave. I actually thought the food was great, and the restaurant was retina-scorching bright green and yellow--yet--clean. My main reason for the three stars is due to my intimidation in not really speaking a lick of Spanish. The guy at the counter was fairly helpful, but if you've never had REAL Mexican food, you had better be ready to try something totally new through a taste trial and error. So I tried Tacos Junior based on a recommendation after I asked them for their favorite authentic taco place. They even stated this was better than El Taco Veloz when I noted this was my current favorite after trying around 20 different places in Denver. Alas, this was just OK. It looked promising but the tacos al pastor didn't taste authentic from my days in non- tourist Mexico. These were alright but they seemed to add the flavor vs the traditional that come from a rotisserie. These even had a weird lingering flavor. From the tortillas that didn't seem homemade to the salsas that weren't very spicy I wasn't too impressed. For now El Taco Veloz is my spot. read more

This is one of the better Taco juniors that I've been too. Normally the only things I get are the tacos (El Pastor and Carne Esada). For a Mexican food chain it's pretty good and at least semi comparable to the genuine Mexican places in case of tacos. The hours of operation are good since I get off late from work or want a decent meal at night as most other places in the area are closed. This place is worth a stop for at least the tacos, everything else I have yet to try but will add another comment if I decide to be outgoing and try anything else they have to offer. read more

Food is always good at a Tacos Junior and this place is new and clean. We heard the owner likes horse racing and the place is completely covered in murals from clouds on the ceiling to horses racing on the walls. There are pictures for all the food, so if this turns you off, this is not the place to go. Unfortunately, no prices are posted until you get to ordering and they're printed on a small sheet in front of the register. Tacos al pastor are great and they have the vertical broiler (could use a pineapple with its yummy juices flowing down it from on top though!). The aguas frescas and the licuado were a bit pricey for a lot of ice. Our little "lunch" for two cost $34 which shocked us ($10 were just for the drinks). But food was tasty, so besides my quejas above, we'll likely be back, but will check the menu prices before ordering!!! read more

Being someone that's been called a "taco purist", meaning I am someone who solely sticks to classic street tacos and non of that fancy type of tacos you see alot in high end restaurants, I'm more attracted to places like Tacos Junior, where you see an abundance of diversity as well as an abundance of types of Mexican foods. Tacos Junior is a great place to get a variety of Mexican food. I've only had the opportunity to try their tacos and horchata and I must say that they are absolutely delicious. I had the barbacoa, lengua (tongue) , al pastor, and carnita. All the meats had distinct and great flavors to them. You can tell that they have been made with care and consideration. The tacos did not fold, and a friend told me once that if a taco doesn't fold then that's a real taco lol! There was so much meat on my tacos, I was left feeling very full and satisfied. The horchata was also delicious! One of my favorite drinks. If you are craving tacos and happen to be on Federal, take a look at this joint. I can't believe I wasted 45 minutes driving there and back for what I received. First of all, my call ahead order, hadn't even been made or started until I arrived. Then, I go to eat my tacos. I ate the carne Asada taco first. It was edible. Then I had 5 more al pastor tacos. I tried to eat one. I couldn't. THE AL PASTOR TASTED LIKE WHAT DOG FOOD SMELLS LIKE. I'm not sure what in the heck happened to this place. This really sucks because I used to make special trips, like I did a few days ago, because the tacos used to be that good. Now they taste like dry kibble? What in the world? Disgusting. I'm so glad I didn't get sick. Plus the workers are RUDE. I waited in line to pick up my order, to find out that was a waste of time. You have to go to where the cooks are to get your order. Oh, but when you say hello, they just look at you and walk away. They pretend like you aren't really there so they don't have to work. Overall experience here was great. Went there when they first opened at 10am. Fully staffed, everyone was busy. the place was clean! The bathrooms require a passcode that is found on your receipt, which I thought was a cool way of keeping them cleaner to get rid of non customers. The food was awesome, I gad the 4 tacos. They tasted really good. Wish I could find a closer taco place like this near me, but its worth the drive if you are craving these kind of tacos. read more

But as soon as home skillet looked at me like I just ran her mutt Chiquita over on a Sunday drive for asking for another drink...deal breaker. I also asked for suggestions as to what to order, nope not going to happen you are on your own trying to fend for yourself on their enormous Spanish menu. We like to consider ourselves as taco connoisseurs being from Austin. This place is very ethnic in a good way. It's super authentic if you like Mexican food. I stopped at Tacos Junior by chance and I fell in love with the place. The menu was authentic and it has images of the items in case you are not familiar with all of them. (I wasn't, lol). I've tried so far the 'Cemitas=breaded cutlet, ham, cheese, avocado, tomato and lettuce sandwich', Caldo de Res=Pho like dish with beef, vegetables, side of rice and tortillas, Tacos de carnitas, empanadas, cucumber water and the elotes. Every single item was delicious and as a Spanish speaker the atmosphere and employees makes you feel relaxed and at ease. The only thing I didn't like is the type of chicharron they used for a smothered burrito I ordered once, but that is because of personal preference.
