I love Mexican food leftovers. My mom keeps asking, so I been here three weekends straight. Tried six different things. Not a breakfast burrito yet ironically. Nachos, tacos and asada fries are my favorite so far. They have green and red sauce, but no pickled carrots or radish or anything like that. I find the green is spicier. Red is perfect. Has some kick, but not overpowering and doesn't linger so you can enjoy it. Ask what's in the entrees or figure it out as you go like I'm doing. Some of the ingredients aren't for me, like iceberg lettuce. Come ready to eat. You'll get a lot of good food.

Is this my new favourite breakfast burrito in LA County? *****, it might be!…read more As I was getting my electrocardiogram done in Los Alamitos, my wife worked her Yelp magic to find us some breakfast after my appointment. Since we were already heading west to climb at Sender One Lakewood, Don Ruben was the perfect stop! We decided on the special and machaca breakfast burritos. Sure, there was a line both to order and pick-up, they lost our order, there are few outdoors seats, and it took longer than anticipated, but they make everything fresh to order. Our minor disappointment quickly turned into unexpected joy and satiation within our first two bites! They have created a perfect blend of meats, cheese, veggies, and seasoned potatoes here at Don Ruben's, and I couldn't even wait until the end of my meal before I began sending out text messages with the "Check out Don Ruben's" yelp page links! Listen, y'all, I've eaten a lot of breakfast burritos around the country, especially in LA and Orange County. I found my favourite OC breakfast burrito a few years ago, and now I've found my LA County one. Great prices, friendly service, quality ingredients, and sabor is what you'll find at Don Ruben's! You should also know that parking can be rough, as there is a small lot and a busy street in front. However, if you don't mind walking, you can park in the local neighborhood and get to Don Ruben's in a few minutes. This place is worth it!

And do not be fooled, the salsa is actually pretty spicy, not insanely spicy as I was still able to enjoy my food. I had been waiting years to eat this burrito and it did not disappoint. The service is also great, there was one dude on the floor doing all the bussing and ordering but he was on it. Props to that guy. Also I loved the banda music playing in the back, it really seals the deal on the vibe the restaurant has going.

It was bright like a fast food joint, but had table service and beer, wine and margaritas. We were a fairly good sized group of 9 and sat side by side on two booths that were separated by a glass partition that they removed. My brother-in-law told me the place is packed on the weekends and, judging by the food, I don't doubt it. The portions are big and the flavors strong, but not overpowering. The sampler plate is enough to share and is a good choice for someone who wants a little bit of everything. The carnitas were really good. It wasn't dry and the pieces were thin cut slices. With my flour tortillas and their delicious salsa, it was mouthwateringly good. The chicken fajitas, like the sampler, were enough to share. In fact, my wife and mother-in-law shared a plate. The molcajete was sizzling hot with delicious fish and shrimp and pulpo (octopus). I'm not a pulpo fan, but my brother-in-law ate everything and said it was delicious. Parking is tight and if you're traveling too fast on Carson going eastbound you might miss it. If you're traveling westbound, you need to turn on the street before the restaurant. The staff were really nice and polite and even sang happy birthday to my brother-in-law and gave him a sombrero for the pics, to boot. It truly was a wonderful night of family and good food and a place we'll put on our regular rotation soon.
