Really can't recommend this restaurant. The veggie burrito consisted of water chestnut, baby corn, bamboo shoots, broccoli and beans. Really a frozen bag of mixed stir fry vegetables. Truly a terrible veggie burrito. Besides that the worker seemed very unclean and unpleasant to do business with. Cool that this place still seems to be open! They said they were closing after the last time my friends and I visited. Went to La Mina for Taco Tuesday on our way home from camping. Reasonable beef taco specials, in addition to the house margarita, pescado ceviche, and churros we got. The chips were a little stale, and the margarita was too syrupy, but the ceviche was fantastic. Even though La Mina wasn't my favorite restaurant overall, I'd still come back to support this local Leadville establishment. Plenty of menu options and hard-working staff. read more

Don't overlook this Mexican restaurant located in an unexpected area. We were in a rush to get back down the mountain, so we decided to use their drive-thru. The food was served quickly, and it was fresh and nicely presented. It was so delicious that I had to pull over; I couldn't even concentrate on getting down the mountain because I was too eager to enjoy every bite. I haven't had a good burrito in years, but this birria burrito was worth the wait. The flavor, portion size, and presentation were all outstanding. We also ordered a seafood quesadilla, a carnitas burrito, a burrito named "Birria," and an American cheeseburger--all of which were a perfect 10 out of 10. Perhaps I am spoiled being from CA and having really good Mexican food? Even so, based on the reviews on Yelp I was hopeful. I ordered the carne asada burrito which the menu says is meat, rice and beans. What I received included just the meat and rice. My partner ordered the shrimp burrito and his was missing the beans as well. The restaurant was busy so I am guessing that they ran out of beans, but why couldn't they have mentioned that before we ordered? As for taste, the asada was good, but there was a flavor perhaps in the sauce on the wet style burrito or the cheese, it tasted off. The shrimp in the shrimp burrito tasted like plain old boiled shrimp with no spices or seasoning. At $13 a burrito it was more than disappointing! Would try another place in the future. read more

Local tacos in a small town, with Yelp leading the way? Always a home run. Walking in, the menu is to your left, on the wall. We visited in winter and weren't able to take advantage of the outdoor dining area, but found a window booth and were just as happy. It's a small space inside, but man, were we happy to have stopped in. First, let's talk margaritas. After all, what goes better with Mexican food? You're right, nothing! Good margaritas, for me, are a good sign that flavors will be balanced in the entrees as well. Tacos La Mina gets 5 stars. It is the simple things, my friends. Now, on to our food. We started with chips and salsa. I was impressed with the salsa and had to pace myself so have some left for our entrees, lol. Not a bad problem to have. We ordered tacos and soup Azeca. This food was amazing. Bright flavors, great salsas and nothing that overpowered other ingredients. My soup was so very good, light but also tasty and filling. We went here twice in one weekend and whenever I'm traveling th right town again, I will stop. The staff is so friendly and the food was delicious. Hot and fresh and the rice and beans on the side were even great! The cheese enchiladas (I know it sounds boring but what is not to love about melted cheese in a tortilla smothered in green Chile!) we're just what I wanted. My husband got steak and league tacos. The food is rotten. How can I give negative stars? I never get on this platform and throw down like this, but here we go... I love Leadville, CO. I give every place in town a chance, even Scarlet Tavern (they have some good bands sometimes). I was told La Mina has great tacos and I thought "what the heck?... let's give it a shot." And, actually, I was somewhat impressed with their operation. When I went inside, their customer service was great and the food was prepared very quickly. When I ate the food I thought the tacos were a little off for me, and their salsas were just mediocre. But nonetheless, what can you expect from a Mexican taco place in Leadville, CO? I was super hungry from activities during the day, so I ate quickly and thought nothing of it. Later that night, my stomach started churning and making sounds I've never heard before. My stomach was screaming akin to La Llorona down by the arroyo. Clearly somebody had cross contaminated E. coli or Ebola or both into the carnitas or the asada. This was the night before the Leadville 100 mountain bike race and I was there to crew for my buddy who was racing the next morning. From 10:00 PM until 3:30 AM I was blowing up the Airbnb like Harry Dunne desperately in love in Aspen, CO but sabotaged by Lloyd Christmas. At a certain point, I thought I was going to have to throw in the towel on my crew responsibilities. The next morning we packed up the gear and headed to the start of the race. I almost missed the start and had to run to the public restrooms in the middle of town, meant for the CT trail hikers, and I blew that up too. When we got to the aid station, I probably filled up an entire Porta John myself. You think the racer's legs were cramping? My anus needed ketones just to stay alive so that I could finish crewing. During a four hour time-period, I probably shat 20 times. At that point I had to dig deep and it felt like I was handling my own long distance race; a race straight to the bottom. By the time we got back to Leadville to watch the finish, I was holding on tighter than Jack in Titanic, knowing that at some point I would be letting go and doom was inevitable. The bigger problem was, I had nothing left. My body wanted to further purge the La Mina demons, but there was literally nothing left. Imagine that feeling. I may not have ridden 100 miles that day, but I surely staggered 1000 steps. To be clear, this isn't a racist thing, I don't think I was eating the dogs and cats from town. I just think these dipshits leave their meats out all day and serve it without quality control. Save yourself the trouble. read more

The first time I came here, I ordered the pozole and I honestly wasn't a fan. But the second time I when in, I ordered carne asada, carnitas, and pastor tacos and they were delicious! I came to visit Leadville for the first time and I have already been to this place TWICE in two days!!! This little place is right next to Safeway, they have a few tables outside and a few booths inside. I ordered their Chorizo burrito the first time and I was hooked!! The burrito is huge!! Very juicy and flavorful. When the girl brought me the food, she informed me that the plate is hot!! Which means that they put the plate in the oven to melt the cheese on top of the burrito instead is just cook it on the grill. The second day I ordered their chicken burrito along with 2 pastor tacos, yes I was hungry after running the half marathon early that day. They are so good I could eat them everyday!! I can't believe how long it took us to visit Tacos La Mina. It is not far from our house and we pass it several times a week "La Mina" means "mine" and Leadville is a historic mining town. La Mine is fast food, but not fast food. It isn't a chain and it has a warm, cozy feel with orange walls, wood beams, and folk art animal heads (not real ones). You order at the counter (which is stocked with beer and spirits) from an extensive menu posted on the wall. Tacos La Mina's full name is "La Mina Tacos & Mariscos" and shrimp options are plentiful. Choices include tacos, burritos, tortas (sandwiches), quesadillas, all of which can be made with a variety of meats, chicken, shrimp, or vegetarian. There are 5 versions of burgers, including Whamola (with green chile, white cheese, bacon, and habanero salsa) and Cancun (with shrimp, white cheese, and chipotle salsa). There is also a breakfast menu. I had shrimp tacos, which were fresh and tasty with a spicy slaw and tomatoes, onions, and avocado slices on the side. It was accompanied by fresh veggie-studded rice. My husband had marinated beef quesadillas. We both had Mexican beer, but they also have Margaritas, which we will be back to taste. Soon. We were both very, very happy. read more

Tacos la gringo is what this place call. My burrito.... aka rolled quesadilla. Was ugh not good! The vegetation included in the burrito was a bad combo. Cilantro, onions and lettuce with no beans and rice? Almost $10 ($8.50) burrito that broke apart? Weirdly weird is they cut the burrito in half like it was a big burrito. I ask for half buche & curito they wanted to charge me $1.95 extra? Buche, Carnitas and Cueritos are all cooked the same. Well, don't get me wrong.
