First time here and the food was excellent. So good that I forgot to take pictures of most of it. We were greeted promptly upon entering and seated. There's both indoor and outdoor seating with a homey feel. Ended up taking our food to go. The waitress answered all of the questions we had about the menu and after ordering, the food was ready quickly. We got the fajita burrito and texana quesadilla. Both were tasty, came out hot and promptly, and were perfect when we got home to eat. The green and red salsas were tasty. The red which is the spicier of the 2 had a little heat but not too much. We were looking for a quick bite in Hillsborough and stumbled upon this cute little spot. The front area is set up like a small garden, thoughtfully decorated and clearly cared for by the owners, which immediately gave it a welcoming vibe. Food was quite good!! They offer a wide variety of tacos (since I was in the mood for tacos I didn't pay much attention to other things), and I was especially excited to see nopal as an option--such a rare treat! The staff were incredibly friendly and patient as we browsed the long menu. I asked for a horchata with no ice and fully expected it to be about 2/3 full (the cup was huge), but to my surprise, they filled it to the top. And it was delicious! My partner ordered a torta that looked amazing... though I didn't get a photo because he devoured it too fast! Definitely recommend this spot and will come back. The two stars are for the beef tacos -- they are absolutely awful. It's not any sort of recognizable beef, but rather a dark sludge made of mystery meat that had a slightly bitter taste and was so bad I could not finish even one taco. Whatever you do, however nice the rest of the experience is, do not order the beef tacos. This place is absolutely amazing! My wife and I have been on the hunt for a good breakfast burrito and we finally found the spot! We drove all the way from Reidsville and this place did not disappoint! Not only was the breakfast burrito perfect, we also tried the esquites and flautas which were equally amazing! I came back for the breakfast. I drove 35 minutes to get this breakfast. I was thinking about it all week and I literally had a dream about pancakes last night and I'm a waffle or French toast kinda girl. But I stopped in and the food was wonderful. Not that I expected anything less. I got the build your own omelette with chorizo, mixed bell peppers, spinach, and cheese and it came with sliced avocado and potatoes and onions on the side. Everything was well seasoned. I also got a side of pancakes. These pancakes were so good and they were not doughy as some pancakes can be but these were buttery and fluffy. We have been here for breakfast on the weekends and really like the food. Portions are nice, food is flavorful and reasonably priced. But we went for dinner recently and were very disappointed. The food was very "meh" and not as good as other Mexican restaurants in town. So we can definitely recommend the breakfast but not dinner. read more

We came here a couple of years ago and had a great breakfast. Unfortunately, today our food was almost inedible. The waffles and breakfast potatoes tasted like they were all cooked in the same oil that just tasted... off. Again, sad because a while back I had a really delicious breakfast here. First of all, I am pretty shocked that I had such a bad experience given that all the reviews on this page seem to be glowing. I wonder if I was just unlucky which is entirely possible. I gave this two stars instead of one because the salsa was great and the waitress was nice - but those are pretty much the only positive things I can say. We were the only table in the restaurant but it took a weirdly long time to get our menu. Once we did, we got our food and I ate the worst burrito I've ever had in my life. I had ordered it with steak and it was a real struggle because every other bite I had to pause to pull some meat out--the meat was super tough and there were multiple huge chunks of cartilage as well. Visually, the meat was grayish and looked like dog food. The texture was rough and a little slimy. I am not a picky person and eat almost everything (e.g. the old leftovers in the fridge at home that no one else is willing to eat) so I was really surprised that I found I could not even finish my meal--it was that bad. I think my partner's chicken tacos were a bit better (including visually) but plain. We paid quickly and left, and I got some fast food chicken nuggets from Wendy's on the way home which were ten times better and half the price. Finally, I encourage everyone to take a look at their health code violations reported on their Yelp page. We ignored the 94 score when we sat down but it really is enlightening as to why I woke up the next morning with a stomach ache. read more

I am speechless. This place is just amazing. Breakfast burritos, street tacos, tamales, actually so their breakfast. Their salsa verde is to die for. Prices are great. I can't wait to go back and try even more street taco varieties! I tried steak, chicken, shrimp, and chorizo today. Delicious and great service! We drove over to Hillsborough to walk around and, saw this had 5 stars and was open. (Covid has most places closed). We had tacos, chips and salsa, sat on the bench under the tree across the street. It was a perfect picnic, fresh, delicious, salsas were amazing! Shrimp, chicken and carnitas tacos, all were great. I normally can find one thing I like in a bad experience, but in this case that is not true... started with service, waitress seemed overwhelmed with 4 tables in the restaurant with an additional server as well. Took 20 mins to order. Then she rushed us as soon as we started to order. food took a while came out Im pieces even my entree came out wrong. I ordered no lettuce and came with lettuce (easy fix) seemed to be an issue when I asked for it to be corrected and it was her mistake. food Was horrible seemed like just old. Or had been sitting out for a while. Nothing tasted fresh. Got the bill and all the prices were higher than the menu stated. Even the "special" for the day was supposed to be $10. on the receip it was $10.40, not a huge deal normally but everything we ordered was that way. i have been the restaurants before and there is soemthing posted about a credit card fee may apply if you do not pay cash. And the receipt normally has both prices listed. So you can choose how you want to pa, But that was no where, asked about it and the waitress said oh that's how the register rings stuff up. it's the program we use. OK. So this guy has had a taco truck at the top of town for a few years now (Los Altos Tacos) but recently opened a full Mexican restaurant on historic King Street in the heart of Hillsborough. We stopped in for breakfast. Wow!! Great options, including your typical American breakfast, but lots of creative Mexican choices. I had the 4-meat omelet and it was superb!! Most breakfast plates come with the most amazing skillet fried potatoes you've ever had plus fresh fruit OR homemade pancakes!! I was impressed with the QUALITY of the food - really nice. Fresh and HOT!! Haven't tried lunch or dinner, but if breakfast is any indication, this is going to be a great haunt for my family. Hillsborough has needed a breakfast place for far too long. I was already a fan of the Tacos los altos food truck and was thrilled to hear they were opening a brick-and-mortar location. My husband and I have now had breakfast there a few times and the combination of friendly people and delicious food makes up for being up early. Stopped in for an early lunch on Sunday. Small little place just off King St. What a great find, simple Mexican food really well prepared. Street tacos were just perfect, three were more than needed for a big lunch. Also had the Mole Enchiladas which were outstanding. Friendly service. Stopped in for breakfast based on the reviews. It was really good. I had the poblano omelette with potatoes and a side of pancakes. It was delicious and more than enough to share. My other daughter got the kids meal with pancake, eggs, and sausage. I never saw her eat so much food! She loved it. My husband doesn't like eggs, so he asked if he could get lunch.
