I have been coming to this restaurant specifically before my son has been born with my fiancé for 5 years. Now at 31, there has not been one time in these 11 years that I was dissatisfied or had a bad experience. When I get married, I will have tacos lupita catering my wedding. The food was excellent and the price was reasonable when I first ate at Lawrence. Then they opened here in Lowell, and the menu is really limited, and the prices are really high. I once asked the restaurant's proprietor why the beef chop was so small and so little, and he said it had always been this way. I've stopped dining here ever since. My friends and I split a barbacoa burrito, and some al pastor tacos. Portions are on the smaller side but rightfully justified with the quality and price. Both meals were moist, tender, and flavorful. As part of checking out a latin restaurant, I tried their hot sauce which was more tangy than spicy. Finally got to try this place after living nearby for over four years LOL; I got the birria taco, al pastor taco, and chorizo taco. I also got a pupusa. I would've gotten the lengua taco instead of the chorizo but they were all out. Al pastor: 5/5 Birria: 5/5 Chorizo: 4/5 just because it's never really been my favorite kind of taco. The best beef tongue taco I had was in Boston, but that's quite a distance from where I live. This local Mexican spot is closer. It's quiet inside with a bunch of seatings. And there is a pay station for street parking depending on the time of day can be either easy or challenging. Carne Asada De Res (Grilled Streak) Taco Combo- 3 tacos. The steak was dry and a little chewy. And the green sauce, cilantro, salsa, onion are good toppings. Served with a side of rice and beans, plain but edible. Lengua De Res (Beef Tongue) Tacos Combo- 3 tacos. The beef tongue was tender but lacked in flavor. Luckily the same topping green sauce, cilantro, salsa, onion enhanced the tacos. Served with the same rice and beans. Overall Sevice: I agree with a lot of the reviews. They are some of the rudest staff I've ever encounter. I was making an order on the phone and was interrupted with "okay-okay" and they abruptly hung up when I was in mid-order. I had to call back to finish. And then when I came there, checked in, there was a check-in offer for a free soda. The lady immediately shut it down obnoxiously without any explanation. Reliable food that's consistent. Fairly priced too except for their tacos. I think you get more out of burrito than you do a taco which is priced at $12 while the burrito is priced at $8. Their steak tacos are very good if you're looking for something close to authentic. Their steak mulitas are my personal fave although it usually takes 10 minutes to make. Their guac and sauces are very water down. The guac is horrible and I wouldn't even call it guac. It has a soup consistency. Their burrito was mediocre. read more

Another super recommendation by my fellow Yelpers!! My daughter and I were attending a sporting event at UMASS Lowell and I needed to grab a quick lunch and the great reviews led me here. This place is fantastic! The restaurant is on a rather sketchy street and parking can be difficult but the place is inviting and immaculate. I usually don't notice things like that but this restaurant is spotless!! Seriously, you could eat off the floor. My daughter said the bathroom was really clean as well. Most importantly, the food was fresh and delicious! I got the pollo torta which had super tasty grilled chicken and fresh toppings in a soft roll. The size was excellent for the price. My daughter loved the selection of South American sodas but wasn't as thrilled with my pronunciation of "pollo"...apparently "ll" is pronounced as a "y". Not the first time I have embarrassed her. The staff was reserved but very efficient. If I was a student at the nearby university I would be here every damn day!! There were so many things on the menu I wanted to try. read more

It's crazy when you ask for hot sauce (as an example) and it tastes like spicy water... I keep thinking it will get better but after trying a few times it has not. This is the most authentic it gets for Lowell. I've tried the 'competition' and they just don't compare due to their gentrified dishes to attract the college students in the area. Tacos Lupita may take longer than the time you have- but plan for 20 minutes for some authentic Mexican food. You really won't get it from anywhere else in the area (trust me i've tried and failed miserably). Unless you're willing to drive to boston which is the holy mecca of all cultured foods (and even that needs some work), if you're in the area, give them a try! Service at the counter was very poor. The guy taking orders decided it would be a good idea to argue with my girlfriend about the difference between the words combo and combination. The kitchen is so loud, right behind the counter, that you have to yell for anyone to hear you. And they have no way of communicating what I ordered to what I'm charged for. Just a poorly executed restaurant in my opinion. Which is a shame because with a little more though this place could be really good. Ended up here after checking around to see what was a good local after touring UMass Lowell. Glad we ended up at this little gem. Parking is street and you pay the meter at a pay station machine. The food is pretty much prepped right in front of you. I had the pleasure of eating the taco combo plate which comes with 3 tacos (I ordered 2 chicken, 1 steak) rice and beans. They have 2-3 different levels of hot sauce, they were okay. They needed an extra kick for my personal liking. The tacos were really good though. My cousin had the chicken quesadillas which looked more like a flat burrito but either way she really enjoyed it. Staff was pleasant and they honored the free can offer that comes with checking in on Yelp. If I were closer to Lowell this would be one of my little go to spots for a quick bite. read more

Went here in hopes for a Birria tacos and was excited to see this place is serving them so off I go on this cold winters day to satisfy my fix only to order and get something different. When they asked what I want on my taco I looked at it and say "no I ordered the Birria not the regular soft taco." They informed me the meat is Birria... Very clean place when you enter, depending on what time you come there can be a line to the door. For me this place is a hit or miss. Our favorite local taco/burrito joint. Super close to UML and inexpensive for a student budget. Tacos are $2.75 a piece, and for less than $6 you can get a burrito stuffed with your choice of meat (chicken, pork, carne asada, lengua...) and a whole bunch of fillings, all of which are well seasoned. Their salsa for chips is more like a pico de gallo, which I like. It's all very fresh and light tasting, not your typical American-style Mexican restaurant that's greasy and heavy as far as the tacos and burritos go. Lots of beverage selections, including my favorite, Jarritos. My only warning for the food is that if you get hot sauce on your food, prepare for your tongue to be en fuego - it's mighty spicy! I am all about the spicy food but this was probably one of the sweatier hot sauces that I've ever had in my life. The atmosphere in the restaurant is pretty Spartan, but it's clean and bright and pleasant. Staff is very nice. Lots of easy, cheap nearby street parking, even during the school year. read more

It is great. A Spanish speaking woman in front of me ordered a burrito and I'm not sure what they put in it but it looked so good that I just said I want that. It was steak and a bunch of love! I got the verde sauce. She was very nice and told me that she really liked the place. She ordered for me in Spanish and basically hooked me up. I love Tacos Lupita. Literally a perfect portioned burrito. When I crave burritos, I always go to them. The tortilla... a gift from the heavens. It is so good it's unbelievable.
