For a quick dinner, I stopped by California Burritos. At around 7 PM, there was a small line, but I was able to order at the Chipotle-style assembly line without much of a wait. I went with the carne asada fries ($10.75). The fries completely filled the takeout box, and they were topped with a generous amount of guacamole. The carne asada was impressively seasoned and juicy--exactly what you want from grilled meat, and a welcome contrast to the leathery, dry, and bland carne asada you often find elsewhere. Quality has really gone down hill. Never enough staff, and they can barely understand when you order. Location on Cellu Dr was ridiculously long to wait! Service and food is great here. This place is pretty much a home grown Chipotle. But of course skip Chipotle since food here is much better. Fish tacos--they offer both flour or corn tortillas. I've had both and I thought the flour tortilla was 10x better. The tortilla doesn't take the flavor away from the fish and slaw. Fish itself had the perfect crunch and flavor to it. Add some quac if you're into that. Guac taste great. The ingredients are fresh--from veggies to guac. Wish they had fresh cut jalapeños though--unless I missed it. Steak nachos is definitely comforting. Super flavorful and meats are tender. Kids meal is solid--kid likes it. Simple. Great spot to stop in as we head north. Parking lot is available that fits maybe 8 cars. My selective listening is complete sh/t when I'm trying to order in there though--since the music is on a bit loud in there. Hmmm Tbh I didn't have too high expectations. It was busy. The smell of food was filling my lungs. Signs looked good. Ordered bowl and first bite I realize the food was dry. I ordered pick, medium sauce, black beans, etc to ensure enough juices to moisten up the meal. Still dry. Rice was dry, chicken was dry. Sauce didn't have enough flavor.. When I got home, fortunately I had alot cholula hot sauce to make sure my palette wasn't feeling left out. Nothing in this meal ever popped. No flavor that reached out and grabbed my attention. The best Mexican food around. I can't even eat Chipotle anymore. I get a burrito bowl with chicken and all the extras. 10/10. All the food is freshly prepared and absolutely delicious. Prices are insanely cheap for how good the food is and how big the portions are. Employees are great. We are obsessed with this place, kind of glad that we live about 40 minutes drive because had we lived closer, we would be eating here every day and our wallets and our body would not be too happy :) The service is always excellent. They are not finicky when we want to customize our dish, always happily serves good portions and extra sauces when we want to try them. Pretty much everything on the menu is great. Our absolute favorites are their Carnitas fries that you can make Veggie by adding the fajita's and/or beans. Make sure to get a side of Chipotle Crema to go along with those fries. Their pupusas are amazing and we always get them as these are definitely the best you can find in the area. My favorite is the black bean and cheese and my husband loves the pork and cheese ones. Their fish taco's also deserves a place in the top 3. Although a little oily, the fried fish they serve is delicious and sometimes we just get a side of the fried fish and it goes amazing with anything you order. Highly highly recommend this place. Fresh, fast, authentic selection on a small but delicious menu of tacos, burritos, pupusas along with some muy bueno chips and salsa. We heard other diners giving rave reviews as they left. Fish taco has a lovely chipotle sauce with its veggies and Dos Equis battered fish (which gives a dark consistency almost like a hush puppy rather than a golden brown or tempura color and crunch). I like the taste of the food and have been buying more frequently from here as an alternative to Chipotle. Today, I ordered 1 chicken Cali Burrito and 1 Chicken bowl. I never bothered to check the items in the bill and have paid the bills without any concern. However, today I felt the bill of 27.63 seemed a bit high, so I looked at the bill. I found that there was extra stuff being added to the bill which I have never even ordered. I noticed the extra chicken being added and then was refunded cash for that. Ok, first and foremost, I AM from California, and to be fair, most of the Mexican food I have eaten in Massachusetts and neighboring areas have been total crap. When Chipotle is the best Mexican food around, you know you are in trouble. THAT BEING SAID! When I first saw this on yelp, I was extremely skeptical. OH...MY...GOD!! This has been the closest to being back home I have found so far. The wife and I both ordered steak burritos, loaded with everything, with the sole exception of mine not having guacamole. The rice (they have two styles, Spanish and cilantro lime) is well seasoned and well done. Beans are beans, literally the same anywhere, but the steak was beautifully grilled and perfectly seasoned. But it is their sauces that brought it all together. The hot brings the heat, without being hot for the sake of being hot, and has a fantastic flavor that keeps you eating more. The Pico has a good flavor, and is made with very fresh ingredients. All together, I was very tempted to order another, just to take back home, but the wife suggested pupusas to have back home. On the outside, you see a rather nondescript blue building with just the name on the front, but inside makes you feel like you are in a small cantina.
