    Enchiladas Montadas
    Andrew L.

Came here for a late lunch/early dinner on the drive back from Big Bend to Austin. Our expectations for food were pretty low on this stretch of the drive, but we were pleasantly surprised with the experience we had here! Most of the restaraunts here and in other nearby towns had similar feels, so we chose here on the basis of their incredibly long menu. I had the Enchiladas Montadas, the combination of runny eggs on top of enchiladas sounded intriguing and different than I would usually find at restaraunts in Austin. Our first takeaway was that you get phenomenal bang for your buck, even taking into account that you're nowhere near a major city. Part of my reasoning for choosing the enchiladas was they fell on the cheaper end of the menu, since I didn't want to overstuff myself before another long drive, but I was certainly mistaken. If you go for any of the larger plates I'd expect to bring some home, even if you come super hungry. The quality of the food was strong across the board. Nothing where you would go out of your way to come here, but I'd feel pretty confident you'll come away satisfied with whatever you order. Overall I think this is an excellent spot if you find yourself hungry on a long drive across I-10.

We stopped here on our way through town because the other Mexican place was temporarily closed. We ordered queso, fajitas, and chicken enchiladas. The queso was...not great. It seemed like it came out of a Tostitos jar. The chicken enchiladas were also not great because there was hardly any chicken in them at all. The fajitas were some of the best we've ever had though. Service here was pretty good, but the food left a bit to be desired.

Hungry in the middle of now, then this is your spot. Super huge selection of a menu and beer to boot. Friendly service that was quick and delicious, portions are pretty large I couldn't even finish my meal, can't wait for our next stop in

Tacos are amazing, queso is like Tex-mex style. Staff was attentive and the restaurant is clean

We stopped in Fort Stockton for lunch on a trip back from Big Bend. This place was slightly better than the many typical small town roadside Tex-Mex restaurants I have been to. I had the tacos OJ (beef) and really enjoyed them. The portion was large but not as large as I expected for a place like this because I was able to finish it all quite easily. The front of the menu said prices were higher than listed due to inflation, but it turned out to be much higher than I anticipated. I'm pretty sure it said something around $12-13 on the menu then I was charged over $18. I highly doubt that price increase is very scientific. We didn't need to wait long for our large group on Saturday at noon. The servers were not very nice and made me feel bad. There was only one bathroom for each gender, so the line was long.

Good breakfast burritos, service was a little slow. Make sure to ask for sauces they didn't include any.

Not bad, but not a good selection on fountain drinks and they skimp out on the filling in their quesadillas. Service was good.

The portion was smaller than I expected, but the flavor didn't disappoint. The pork was tender, and the green chile sauce had a deep, rich taste that reflected hours of slow cooking. It carried more heat than my palate prefers, but spice lovers would likely appreciate it. The accompanying rice and beans were less impressive. The Spanish rice had a fairly standard flavor but was noticeably dry. The refried beans were also dry and seemed as though they had been sitting for quite some time before being served, which took away from an otherwise flavorful entrée. The restaurant itself was clean, colorful, and had a lively atmosphere that made it an inviting place to dine. Prices were about what I would expect for the meal we ordered--fair, though not a standout value. Overall, it was a pleasant stop with friendly service and a well-prepared Chile Verde, even if a few of the side dishes fell short.

I thought the breakfast burritos were really good, but they did not compare to the lunch ones. After having lunch, I knew I needed to leave a review. One item of note, the burritos are pretty small so I would recommend ordering at least 2. My wife on the other hand was satisfied with just one. The 3 burritos with extra cheese totaled $16 and change, so I think that was a fair price for lunch. especially as good as it was. They have a great selection of different meats. Both my wife and I had a Chili Verde Burrito with extra cheese. The Chile Verde had a good kick to it but was not too hot. The meat was super tender. You could tell it had been cooking all day. Great flavor and like I said the spice level was just right. The burrito was wrapped in foil, so when we got back to our RV, it was still blazing hot and had given the cheese time to fully melt. Delicious. I also had a spicy Chili Guisado. For those not familiar, it is a beef slow cooked in brown gravy. While it did not have the kick that the Chili Verde did, it still had a little bite, and with the salsa it was perfect. But the flavor was spot on. Another delicious option. We are here for another couple of days so its entirely possible that I might be back to try a different selection. They also have chicken, ground beef and potato and a brisket offering. And I'm sure I am probably missing something, so check their website for the latest menu. Other than that, their menu is pretty limited so don't expect much, they are after all called "Mingos Burritos". I always say, if you do one thing really good, you don't need to do a whole lot of things somewhat good, and they make a really, really good burrito.
