Oof. This meal was pretty rough. Stopped in on the way through town on the way to Mexico with my wife. We stopped here because they're dog friendly (kudos to them for that) and we have a dog. We both got chicken enchiladas with green sauce. The plates were obviously microwaved from cold. The refried beans crispy on the edge of the plate. The Spanish rice looking rather long in the tooth and crunchy. The enchaladas with plain, unseasoned chicken inside tortillas, smothered in an okay chile verde and some cheese. We choked it down because we were famished. But wow. Not so good. read more

Pepinos was pretty decent! We were on our way out of big bend national park heading back to Austin and passed through Fort Stockton so we came here for lunch. It was a Sunday and the place was pretty packed, but we were served fairly quickly, and our server was very nice. The food was decently good and the chips and salsa served beforehand were great quality! The bathrooms had clearly just been renovated and were really nice and clean. The prices were pretty standard. Overall this was a nice spot to grab a bite before getting back on the road. I wish my plate had had a little more veggies and substance to it (I'd had a burrito, all it had was meat in it) but my parents had plates that came with some veg so they shared some of theirs with me. I did leave full, no issue there. I've not tried any other spots in Ft. Stockton so don't have a comparison but for a quick meal of Mexican food / Tex mex this spot is pretty good and quick! read more

The food could be cooked by competent chefs, don't bother ordering a medium rare anything. Its all well done. Also don't expect to come in and order aguas, they usually don't have anything. The atmosphere isnt welcoming either, the Israeli sticker makes you wonder who the owners are. Are they Mexican are they American, do they understand what the zionist state has done to our country. We've eaten at Pepito's since a few days after they opened. I was at the feed store one day and Paul asked me to go to lunch and we've eaten there since. They always had good food and good waitresses. In fact they had the best waitress that ever waited on us, in fact we walked in, she would wave and say hello, bring me tea before anyone could ask if we were ready to order. Understand,we tip generously, well above 15%. In the past 6 months the quality of food has gone down, but the service hadn't. We went in today and sat down around 3:40 pm, yes all three waitresses looked straight at us as we walked in and across the restaurant to sit at a far north table. There may have been 12 to 15 customers in the restaurant, far more empty tables than people. Not one waitress ever came to take our order, they looked at us and ignored us. One waitress started cleaning off tables, one was wrapping silverware apparently and the third was flirting with 3 dudes at one table. When she finished flirting she went to the kitchen and started gossiping with one of the females in the kitchen at the swinging doors. The female in the kitchen looked at us numerous times while they gossiped. After around 10 minutes we got up, left and came to KBobs where we were waited on immediately. To think of the thousands of dollars we've spent in food and tips at Pepito's, we've taken friends and family to eat with them dozens of times, not just my wife and I, to be rudely ignored this way is unconscionable! read more

Staying overnight in Fort Stockton and found Pepito's Cafe for dinner. Hubby and I ordered the combination plates ... I chose red cheese enchiladas and he had green beef enchilada. We both got beef tacos and chili relleno with rice and beans. Green sauce tasted amazing. The red sauce was good with just a little spice. The refried beans were pretty yummy! Not bland as sometimes happens... full of flavor. The tortillas for the tacos were soft fried in house. Chips were brought out with salsa. The salsa could have used a little more heat for me, but good. The waitresses were attentive and checked back on us. Typical Tex-Mex menu with a few other dishes we might try next time. Just and FYI... you seat yourself wherever you want and they have a drive thru to pick up call in orders. read more

Came here with one mission and one mission only: to have a margarita after doing 3+ hours of hiking at Carlsbad Caverns. We even didn't go to Tacos OJ because they only have beers! We sat down at the table with high hopes because while the place is massive and unfussy, we got that nice mama-y-papa vibe here that usually promises some good Tex Mex food. We were told that there were no lime margaritas. OK, OK, not a great sign, but mango sounds good, sure! And what comes to the table is the most disgusting premixed Walmart margarita mix that you have ever had in your entire life. Took one sip and then it sat on the table the whole time. Shiner it is! (BTW, even though it was clearly untouched, our waitress did not offer to take it off the bill.) Food wasn't *as* bad as that but it certainly was not good and did not taste homemade. The "Humberto's Favorite" breakfast was fine: just some good fried eggs with bacon and a tasty side of beans. The combination plate had a taco with unappetizing-looking ground beef, a soggy relleno, and a whatever enchilada. It would have been nice if *either* plate came with some lettuce and pico to cut through all the fat, but no. Kid's quesadilla was about what you would expect. Overall, a waste of a meal and a sour introduction to West Texas from New Mexico where the food is infinitely superior. 2.5 stars, rounding down. read more

Heading back to Austin from Big Bend and looking for something that was open on Sunday that got good Yelp reviews. We settled on Pepito's cafe and we were pleasantly surprised! You seat yourself and they bring you chips and salsa - the salsa had just enough kick without being too spicy. Overall good flavor. The menu is almost overwhelming because there are just so many options! You can get breakfast or order off the regular menu. I got a breakfast burrito and it was good. My friend was very happy with her smothered ground beef burrito as well. The service there is really good. And it was surprisingly inexpensive! They have a drive-thru it looks like. Parking gets crazy because they get so busy but that didn't seem to slow down the service. read more

Service was horrible the lady with the red hair forgot our order and we waited 30 mins for one plate because she didnt put it in the order. we asked twice for a coffee refill and she never brought us a refill we had to ask another server. Great ambiance, cute decor. We were greeted and brought chips and salsa before we were completely in our chairs. Salsa was amazing with the heat you would expect in Texas but not so hot we couldn't enjoy. My husband ordered the breakfast and it was a large platter of eggs cooked perfectly, toast, crispy hash browns and sausage. I ordered the taco salad with chicken fajita meat and the chicken was the best seasoned fajita spice I've had. I asked for beans on the bottom and it was yummy! Not a bad spot. Food is overall good and the service was better than expected. I would choose this spot over Taco OJ due to the quality of food. The brisket tacos/ burrito/ quesadilla here put a little more food inside the dish than Taco OJ, but the ambience is both pretty close. read more

Fast and friendly service. The place was crowded but well-kept and clean. We started by ordering two Margaritas and the Jalapeño Poppers. The margaritas were sweet but strong, just the way I like them. The poppers were made with cheddar cheese and served with Ranch Dressing. Not a fan of cheddar in the poppers. They would be infinitely better if they were made with cream cheese. For the main course, we ordered Chicken Fajitas and the Tampiqueño Steak. The chicken was a little dry, but otherwise, the fajitas were good. The Tampiqueño Steak was fabulous! My only gripe would be that the steak was a little overdone. Even with that, it was one of the best Mexican-style steaks I've had in a long time. Would I eat here again? I sure would! Great place. Highly recommended! read more

Driving through Fort Stockton after a morning at the McDonald's Observatory, I found myself here. The food wasn't outstanding and neither was the service. How can there be four servers, five tables, and I didn't get a refill? The Enchiladas Verdes were extremely watery, as the picture will show. The blend of cheeses inside the Enchiladas was good, and the rice was very tomato-y (something I actually enjoy.) Off-camera, the fries were amazing! Just get fries and you're good to go. read more

I am not impressed at all. I ordered the taquitos, and they arrived in a pool of thick thanksgiving-like gravy. I don't understand why anyone would do this to a dish that is supposed to be a crunchy crispy handheld food... On the plus side, the rice and beans were both overcooked and dried out, so at least there was still something crunchy on my plate. Well this place was not my first choice for dinner tonight, as the other 3 were closed, and it's not even 6 p.m.). I'm guessing that the chips and salsa or homemade. Or at least semi-homemade. But they were very good. The salsa had a nice bite to it, without blowing the top of your head off. And, it did clear the sinuses. I had the #1 Mexican plate which consisted of a semi soft beef taco one side was actually a little crispy, and the other side was soft, a chili relleno and an Enchilada with Green Sauce, and beans and rice, along with a Corona beer. The food was really very good. But, while the taco was nice and hot, the chili relleno and the Enchilada (was a funky enchilada, as the meat was actually shaped in the balls) not heat it up long enough (the centers were barely above room temperature). Also, the place was very crowded wirh 25 people + the drive thru. There were two waitresses and a genuine Busboy! While both waitresses were on the register, my waitress also took care of the drive thru. And trying to get her attention as she whizzed by, was quite a chore. While I was able to give her my order rather promptly, it took 3 attempts just to get a glass of water. Then, after the meal, I tried to get her attention for the check. Well, you can guess how well that went. But I noticed another table just get up and go to the register, so I figured I would do the same thing. I got up to the register with a bottle of cool (not cold) water, and my waitress was there. She has a very good memory, as she remembered my order details. I believe that had the service been better, and the items heated up better, this place could easily get 4 or even, 5 Stars. read more

The service has declined. I don't know if management has changed or what, but the service, along with a slight change in the food, has changed for the worse. Twice a year, I drive through here on my way west and have made a point to stop at Pepito's. But after this last time, no more. The wait service is horrible. I had to go to the window and get the cook to provide me with my additions to my meal. I asked the waitress twice, and she just walked around visiting the locals and carrying on. read more

Not only was the service top notch in this windy, desolate area of Texas, it was really delicious! I had a beef taco salad and my husband had the beef & cheese enchilada plate. It was authentically homemade, arrived hot and their verde and rojo salsas have a nice flavor: not too much garlic or cilantro.
