Local business records from the Batesville Area Chamber of Commerce still associate the "First Church, United Pentecostal Church International" name with the exact address. I happen to believe that once an earthly place has been sanctified and trusted to be holy, it remains so. Interestingly, the Ward family that runs the place feel the same way. I have had fancier meals, I have eaten my share and more of catfish. It has been a long time since a total experience of being better fed in body and soul. The food is very well prepared, ours came out quick, hot and plentiful. We both chose the "small un" meal, four full fillets, a bunch of sides, coleslaw, hush puppies, potato (I subbed in onion rings). We left some behind and still took home a piece of fish and some hush puppies. Aside from the food, the experience for me was deeper. There is a truth to being a "girl dad", they get in your heart in a way that nothing else can. While my child, Cheyeane left this world behind in 2013, from time to time since, I encounter her soul. This was the case with the delightful young crew on duty 14 July. One who said she was shy, radiated a bright charming warmth that perfectly mirrored Cheyeane's ability to bring forward a smile from the grumpiest of souls. And each of the four young women my wife and I engaged with brought youthful joy and energy. This building is indeed still a church even if the joyful noise of choirs past are now just the sounds of a busy kitchen and families enjoying each other. We had good meals, a better experience for a fair price. We didn't leave a tip, we made an offering. Bless this holy place and all who dwell.

Frying it right does require a unique skill so we were interested to see if this place lived up to the hype. Well you're in for a treat worthy of a road-trip meal -- warm hospitality meets seriously flavorful Southern seafood. This place nails that cozy, down-home vibe without skimping on quality or portion size. Their fried catfish fillets and catfish steaks are golden, flaky, and satisfy that crispy-outside, tender-inside craving perfectly. The peel-and-eat shrimp regularly show up on locals' highlight reels, and if frog legs are your jam, they're on the buffet lineup too. On busy nights the buffet spreads wide, offering fried shrimp, hearty fish, and classic Southern sides that keep your plate rotating. The drink lineup may not be fancy, but it's exactly what pairs best with this kind of food: ice-cold sweet tea and lemonade refreshingly cut through the rich flavors, and classic soft drinks round things out with ease. If beer or wine is your companion of choice, there's usually a modest selection available to complement the meal. Being from the South, sides are just as important as the entrée -- and Catfish Barn delivers. You'll find creamy macaroni & cheese, broccoli mac salad, green beans, and pinto beans that feel like grandma just put them on the table. Don't skip the fried okra and hush puppies -- they're classic, crunchy bites that dance beautifully with tartar sauce. After all that savory goodness, you need dessert. Patrons consistently gush about the pecan cobbler and strawberry dessert, often topped with ice cream that melts into every sweet nook. Whether you're a local or a visitor, they're the perfect last course to cap a soul-satisfying meal. Catfish Barn isn't just a restaurant -- it's a small-town institution where food, friends, and family come together over big plates and bigger flavors. The buffet style keeps everything hot and plentiful, the service is friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere is casual yet full of warmth. Sure, expectations should stay humble (this isn't fine dining), but for genuine Southern seafood cooked with heart? This place stands tall. Would I come back? Absolutely -- with friends and a big appetite. All in all this was nothing crazy or fancy just down home southern cooking. Very inviting atmosphere. You can tell a lot of the customers are regulars and comfortable which in part is the staff because this was my first trip ever here and they made me feel at home.
