YUMMY!! The catfish is delicious! We all ordered the two filets and we got fries and baked potatoes. The fish was fried perfectly and the oil was definitely light and clean. The Bean Bar is so fun!! The pickled green tomatoes are delicious, tangy and crunchy. The coleslaw adds a crunch to your dish combo and the beans are warm and comfy winter fare. The purple onions are an excellent topper for the beans. If you love hush puppies then get ready!!! Mack's are fabulous! The batter is wet and the coating is light and flavorful. What can be expected in Heber Spring. Southern Cooking and Fish. Overall it was okay. I had the Grilled Walley. It was okay seemed more baked and over seasoned. Still light and fluffy cooked well. Suppose to come with Wild Rice and came with Rice Pilaf. The have a Bean bar that comes with it. Beans in a crockpot with side trays of picked green tomatoes, red onions, coleslaw something else. Not sure how all that works together. Did not have the Salad Bar. My wife had Chicken Strips which were huge and with normal southern sides. Truthfully not a lot of variety in Heber Springs especially off season. They are clean, professional and try. So it is a good place considering. read more

Arrived here with group of 11. Seated promptly and drink orders taken quickly. Three of us ordered the special of the day, which was cod fish and chips. Unfortunately, it was under cooked and tasted fishy. Very disappointed for a $14 dish that appeared okay, but could have been better if fresher and left in the fryer an extra minute. All the food we got was good, but a bit pricey. We got the catfish baskets and fried okra. It was all fresh a tasted good. I give 3 stars because the food was good,even though it took about an hour to get out food after we ordered. when we arrived we were told we couldn't be seated until the entire party arrived. two,of our party were running late so we were told we could take a table for 4 and move to a table for 6 when the others arrived. so when they arrived we requested to move to a table where we could al sit together the waitress working the area that we moved to was incredibly rude!! severbal times she made rude comment and acted very agitated. at one time she told us that she was going to go tell the first waitress that she expects the entire tip and wasnt goi g to split tip. she just kept on and on being very rude. We had the Chicken-fried Chicken, Fried Shrimp basket and catfish Combo. All of the food was well prepared and well seasoned. The shrimp seemed fresh and was very tasty. Some of the worst food we have ever had. We had some company and decided to take them out for a nice dinner. Due to the great reviews and the usually packed parking lot, we took them here. All six adults ordered different meals and none of them were good. I tasted a bite from all of them. They even left the skins on the catfish before frying it. I ordered the expensive fish special and it was hard, cold, bland and overcooked with no perks. It was awful. We were paying the tab and I had to plead with our guests that they didn't have to eat their meal if they didn't like it and that is what they were trying to do to be courteous. They immediately stopped eating it and we payed our large tab then left and since we had so much good food at home, we fed them there. The kid's meals actually looked better than our meals, but the six kids did not even finish them. The staff acted stressed and were not friendly. The only thing that was any good was the green tomato relish. I was so embarrassed in front of our guests that we had taken them to a place we had not tried ourselves. We won't be back. Maybe they can hire some people in the kitchen that care about how they cook and not lose more potential business in the future, and they also need to train the wait staff to smile sometimes and act like they actually want to wait on you. We didn't complain and we were nice, but the waitress should have addressed the fact that most of our meals looked untouched. Live and learn. read more

We have been to this restaurant multiple times and about the only place in town. Not sure what has happened in last six months but it disappointed once again. Hush puppies were cold when arrived to table. There's one thing I can't tolerate is food being served COLD unless it's a salad. They seated us on the right side and every time we are seated in this section service is slow. I ordered the BIG BLT which by the way was not served on Texas Toast or far from BIG as advertised. It took a while for us to get our food not sure if kitchen was slow or waitress forgot to pick up. The sandwich was stone cold and sandwich had maybe three strips of bacon that had been cooked either that morning or day before and both platters of fries were cold. Unacceptable and my husband and I don't return food...we just don't return to that restaurant. read more

A friend of Constance's suggested this place. It was very good. We both had the fried walleye with rice pilaf and grilled veggies. Hush puppies were included along with pickled tomatoes that were very good and brown beans that had a tremendous amount of ham in them. The coleslaw was crisp and tasty. Glad we took her suggestion. This was my 2nd or 3rd time to eat at Mack's after spending a day on the Little Red chasing trout and it hasn't disappointed yet. This time I had the ribeye steak. The complimentary hushpuppies are really good and I don't consider myself a person who likes hushpuppies. Before rounding out my meal with the steak, I had a loaded baked potato, house salad, and a fried mushroom appetizer. They were all really good. We did have about a 15 minute wait to be seated, but the place was packed which is usually a good sign. Our server was attentive and friendly. I'll definitely be back again.
