Brisket grilled cheese was pretty flavorless and greasy. The seasoned fries were very tasty!

We had dinner at The Angry Possum this evening. The building and the decor are so cool...the food not so much. They're known for their special grilled cheese sandwiches, so my husband ordered a brisket grilled cheese. I ordered a pastrami Swiss grilled cheese, but the waitress came back over to tell me they were out of pastrami. She recommended the salami and gouda, so I ordered that. You know it! She came back to tell me they were out of salami too. I ended up ordering the brisket grilled cheese. We finally got our food and were pretty disappointed because the brisket had no flavor, and the bread was very greasy. At least the fries were tasty. Our waitress was very attentive, however I watched another waitress use her vape pen several times as she walked back to the kitchen to pick up food.

Cheeseburger and fries that are seasoned, very thick, like steak fries, crispy. and delish. Miles better than any fast food burger.

We stopped for lunch while on the road. Great staff, great food. Would stop again. Wish they would have had more t-shirts available.

My wife and I have been to Mike's Place many times for many different occasions over the years…read more It's our go-to restaurant when we want delicious food and dependable service. The restaurant is decorated tastefully in a quaint New Orleans style, and the atmosphere is dress casual and calm, perfect for nice, quiet get together. The restaurant is not designed for a high volume of people, so reservations are best because they stay busy. As I mentioned, Mike's Place is New Orleans themed, and the menu reflects this style, but there are many delicious options. My wife and I made 6:00 pm reservations for our 41st wedding anniversary. We arrived around 5:45 pm but we were seated before 6:00. Our server, Dallas, was very friendly and attentive and took care of all our dining needs. We first ordered the Coconut Shrimp appetizer. This arrived quickly and was hot and well prepared. The Coconut Shrimp comes with a delicious dipping sauce. For our entrees, my wife ordered the Atlantic Salmon with fried okra and baked potato, all of which was served hot and well prepared. My wife has dairy allergies and she requested a butter substitute for the baked potato, and Dallas was able to provide margarine instead of butter. I ordered the Commodore's Platter, which comes with Lobster Tail, Dungeness Crab Claws, White Fish and Shrimp with salad and one side. You can get the seafood prepared grilled, blackened or fried. Even though a "platter" sounds like a lot of food, it was filling but not too much. This was another excellent experience at Mike's Place, and we'll definitely be back!

Came in for a Sazarac and a snack and was pretty disappointed…read more The Sazarac was over ice and was strongly flavored with the absinthe, which is typically a rinse on the glass. The crab cake... well first thing iceberg lettuce is in the news giving people explosive diarrhea but it was a good idea to garnish my plate with dead iceberg lettice. The crab didn't taste like fresh crab and it was full of fillers. Not what I'm use to. The atmosphere was meh. The restaurant itself was clean and pretty. The service. Meh as well. It wasn't bad but not a stand out either.

However, the wise and folks that love to explore, will insist on experiencing what's most important--the food, service and atmosphere. Hands down, this place prepared one of the best tasting and presentable steaks I've ever had! It was seared with perfection, tender and melted in my mouth with flavorful juices. The service was amazing! Services was amazing because they were being themselves and moving with a sense of urgency. They weren't trying to put on "a show of perfection". Constant communication amongst themselves and with customers. That feeling you find in a happy, warm and family oriented place usually called home. No fancy name needed to the restaurant, or corporate owned image that chain restaurants have. Just a restaurant conjoined to a convenience store/gas station, that can easily put to shame big name restaurants. I passed PB&J's Cafe the first time thru and thought, I bet that place is a gem. Not sure why, I just had a suspicion it was gonna be worth a future trip. On day 2 I was running behind again and was gonna arrive 10 min before they closed. I refuse to do that to a place, but I just had to try it out. So I did the courteous thing & called ahead that way I could just grab it to go. Ran in and paid and picked up my bag of food. Nice, clean, little joint. Looked like brand new tables and chairs and nice decor. Got out to the vehicle after pick up and just could not wait to see if this was gonna be as good as my suspicions had gotten my hopes up to be. This picture doesn't do it justice, but here it is! I always test a burger joint out by ordering the DBCB on my first visit. This puts em all on an equal playing field to make something simple into something special. Plain & simple....we have a new member of my Arkansas Top 10 and my NEA Top 5! It is exactly what a burger should be! Hand patted thick patties, juicy, and tasty. Hit em up! They had the sweetest ladies in there just working their tails off. Treat em like you wanted to be treated, and TIP EM WELL! They close at 2pm each day, so if you are gonna be late like me, call ahead. They get there very early each day to serve it up for their community, so don't make em stay late.

Nothing fancy, just consistently excellent comfort food that never disappoints. Portions are generous, prices are fair, and the food comes out lightning-fast even when they're packed. If you're in Newport and craving real Southern goodness with service that makes you feel at home, PB&J's is the place. Can't recommend it enough!
