Personally, we love TD snowplay for our almost 3yo and 14mo. But we are also property owners and full time residence in TD so our yearly rec fee makes snowplay entry free. For free entry, this is definitely 5 stars! If we had to pay, it would definitely be 3 stars. There are 2 tubing areas (just fyi- kids have to be 36 inches to ride) and 3-4 sledding areas. TD provides you with the tubes and sleds. They are open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday's and it's best to make a reservation. We usually always go on Friday to avoid the crowds and my kids love it! We have never experienced lines longer than a couple of minutes so we could get quite a few tubing runs done if we wanted to. Would I pay $10-$25 for this per person, probably not as there are areas to sled for free (like our backyard!).But kids 3 and under are free so if you have little ones who are tall enough, maybe just pay for 1 adult and have fun!

the walk up, tiring! but still nice area

Post COVID 19 review, first time here, went on a Sunday. I have to say I read all the reviews and almost skipped going to this place but I saw the COVID-19 safety protocol on the website and it seemed the best as compared to others. Since safety is #1 to me, I took the chance with Tahoe Donner. I did not bet wrong here as Tahoe Donner took COVID-19 seriously and disinfected every time an equipment was use, whether the tube or the sled. They have an area to put dirty sleds back and I saw employee disinfecting before putting back to the clean pile. For the tubes, employee was standing there to disinfect upon return. They set up the area so you walk around and have plenty of room to socially distance. This is the opposite of Soda Springs Mountain Adventure we went to the day before, where there was NO disinfection of any equipment, quite a few people walking around with no masks, many kids no masks, equipment was touched by multiple people, even the kiosks to get tickets were all next to each other. As for the actual snowplay, there is one lane for tubing and one lane for sledding. It is great for little ones, but do agree it is not for the older kids. The runs are short and sledding needs a few push yourself to get to the end. My 4 yr old loved the sledding though as it's not too adventurous for her. The hard part is that there is no moving carpet (something we are used to at Donner Ski Ranch), which made it VERY tiring to climb up that hill each time after a run. My daughter was exhausted walking up, which made it hard to go as many times down. We skipped going to Donner Ski Ranch this time since there were not much mention of COVID-19 protocol and no online reservations to limit capacity like Tahoe Donner did. Recommend Tahoe Donner and to go to the earliest reservation time if you want less crowds or monitor the tickets to see what time has most availability.

Why did I pay for this??

The worst money I have spent in years. Ugh. Do not. Do not. Do not go. It's not worth free. The local hills are way more fun, better and, free. Terrible. Please close this down Now. No refunds for a reason!!!

Since my wife and I snowboard we knew we were not best suited to teach them and we wanted them to start off with skiing first since it's easier to learn. Highly recommend taking your little ones here for lessons. I also want to note that they have a brand new lodge and it's awesome. Everything is new, clean, and nice. We ate lunch here as well and the food wasn't bad either. We'll definitely be back to take the girls skiing again!

Its highest elevation is below 7,400' feet. By comparison Vail's lowest elevation is more than 8,000' feet. Skiing here does occur on mountainous terrain but with well under 200 skiable acres compared to 5,300 at Vail. This is a small-scale resort and certainly cute. Those accustomed to Colorado or European skiing might find it limited. That said, it has all the makings of a perfect place to learn the sport especially if it's a child skier or beginner.

I had a great experience snowshoeing at the Northstar Cross Country Center!…read more I purchased a pass for $71 (steep, but cheaper than skiing so whatever!) and road the gondola up to the center. It was easy to get there from the village and there is clear signage directing guests to the center. Plus, the gondola is scenic and fun! The staff were super friendly and helpful. They reviewed the trail map with me and gave me route recommendations based on the trail conditions following a week of heavy snow. The center is equipped with hot water and clean restrooms. I especially appreciated the Caboose Warming Hut along my route - it was such a treat enjoying a warm beverage in a snowy meadow as I took a break from snowshoeing. There were plenty of scenic trails to explore and I enjoyed the views of the lake about 3.5 miles from the center. I brought my own snowshoes and trekking poles, but they have rental gear if needed. This was a fun way to spend the day while my friends went skiing. Definitely beats waiting in the village. ;)

I have held a season pass to Northstar Ski Resort for six consecutive years; however, an experience…read moreat the resort left me feeling utterly frustrated. The conditions here seem to deteriorate with each passing year. First, the resort's mobile app is extremely unreliable. The app often indicates that certain trails have just been groomed by snowcats, yet when I actually go to ski them, I discover that several runs clearly haven't seen a groomer in days. This dissemination of false information is not only misleading but also jeopardizes skier safety and severely detracts from the overall guest experience. Furthermore, last month, the Comstock lift experienced frequent operational failures, attributable to staff handling, which clearly demonstrates an urgent need for professional staff training. Second, the management here appears to be extremely lax. During the early morning hours a time when operational efficiency should be at its absolute peak, staff members were observed sitting around chatting in plain sight, completely neglecting their duties. This lackadaisical attitude projects an image of extreme unprofessionalism to the public. Worse still, a male employee working at the ski lifts displayed a rude and highly aggressive attitude. This abysmal level of customer service is absolutely unacceptable, particularly at a ski resort that is supposed to prioritize the "guest experience" above all else. In summary, this was a deeply disappointing experience. Management must take full responsibility for the current situation and immediately implement measures to effectively enhance staff training and supervision. I hope the next ski season brings with it a completely renewed experience.

FRAUD ALERT - July 19, 2025…read more I had a terrible experience with Tahoe Family Adventures. Their communication was an absolute mess from the start. They were extremely slow to respond to emails, constantly gave conflicting information, and ended up booking the wrong photo package despite confirming the details in writing. To make matters worse, they sent an incorrect invoice--again, after already "confirming" everything. When the day finally came to pick up the boat, they told us their employee had been arrested and the boat was impounded. Seriously? The whole thing sounded completely made up and unprofessional. Based on how many issues we encountered and how casually they handled everything, it feels like this is a pattern for them. I wouldn't be surprised if they burn customers like this regularly. Save yourself the stress and go with a more reliable company. This one isn't worth the headache.

I checked in at the front and then made my way to the rental shop. I was given skis, poles, and boots. I didn't utilize the lockers, as I wore a fanny pack to carry my personal items. My instructor was a friendly elderly gentleman, but I felt like my learning style and his teaching style just didn't mesh very well. The trails were perfectly groomed, however it was the snow in between the trails that became treacherous from the beginning due to it being slick as glass- my instructor said that once the sun warmed up the snow, it wouldn't be so slick- so that was one big drawback to me arriving early in the day. About 20 minutes into my lesson while transitioning from one trail to another, I fell on the aforementioned slippery snow right on my tailbone and that pretty much ended my time there. I tried to ignore the pain, but my entire lower body began to stiffen up. * My instructor fell on the slippery snow as well. After an hour of lessons on technique and helpful hints I was left on my own. I stuck to the Meadow Loop course which just went around in a full circle so that I didn't have to venture back out onto the slippery snow. By then the courses were getting rather busy with other skiers and the pain from my fall was starting to make my movements limited and I didn't want to fall again on my tailbone so decided to be done.
