We booked tickets in advance to visit Snowplay on a weekend. It was a beautiful sunny day which is always great when going outside with kids. Parking is easy, lots of space. If you're like me and with toddlers I would recommend spending your money here - they need to be a certain height (and have the courage) to enjoy the tubing area. My almost 2 year old was not tall enough and her 3 year old friend was too scared to ride on his own without a parent. They did get the play with the sledding hill, which is only 2 lanes and was quite packed with other toddler parents. Did they enjoy the sled rides? Yes.. but was it worth $27 per parent for 30-45 mins of sledding? I don't think so personally. They also don't have much seating/lounging space for guests taking a break or parents that aren't riding down the hills with the kids. There's 1 picnic table and a few chairs around a fire pit. This was one of the worst ways to spend $150. Unfortunately, traffic and snow had us at a 3+ hour drive from Truckee to Tahoe, so we had to look for something in the area to do some snow activities. The kids wanted to do tubing, which they have, but it's a small slope controlled by the employees. For our time slot and the number of people, we were able to do it twice, maybe 3x. The sledding portion is also tiny, and suitable for toddlers. If you have pre-teens and older, skip this. Also, it is highly unorganized. Upon our arrival, it stated "closed" with no staff around. However, the parking lot was full of families waiting around. Finally, after 30 minutes, we saw one employee who was swarmed with questions. The website showed they opened at 9:00 am; it was noon when it opened. If you're still interested in coming, be sure to grab your tickets online, as there was a long line of families waiting to purchase tickets, and by the time some reached the window, that window slot was sold out. read more

Personally, we love TD snowplay for our almost 3yo and 14mo. But we are also property owners and full time residence in TD so our yearly rec fee makes snowplay entry free. For free entry, this is definitely 5 stars! If we had to pay, it would definitely be 3 stars. There are 2 tubing areas (just fyi- kids have to be 36 inches to ride) and 3-4 sledding areas. TD provides you with the tubes and sleds. They are open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday's and it's best to make a reservation. We usually always go on Friday to avoid the crowds and my kids love it! We have never experienced lines longer than a couple of minutes so we could get quite a few tubing runs done if we wanted to. Would I pay $10-$25 for this per person, probably not as there are areas to sled for free (like our backyard!).But kids 3 and under are free so if you have little ones who are tall enough, maybe just pay for 1 adult and have fun! read more

Post COVID 19 review, first time here, went on a Sunday. I have to say I read all the reviews and almost skipped going to this place but I saw the COVID-19 safety protocol on the website and it seemed the best as compared to others. Since safety is #1 to me, I took the chance with Tahoe Donner. I did not bet wrong here as Tahoe Donner took COVID-19 seriously and disinfected every time an equipment was use, whether the tube or the sled. They have an area to put dirty sleds back and I saw employee disinfecting before putting back to the clean pile. For the tubes, employee was standing there to disinfect upon return. They set up the area so you walk around and have plenty of room to socially distance. This is the opposite of Soda Springs Mountain Adventure we went to the day before, where there was NO disinfection of any equipment, quite a few people walking around with no masks, many kids no masks, equipment was touched by multiple people, even the kiosks to get tickets were all next to each other. As for the actual snowplay, there is one lane for tubing and one lane for sledding. It is great for little ones, but do agree it is not for the older kids. The runs are short and sledding needs a few push yourself to get to the end. My 4 yr old loved the sledding though as it's not too adventurous for her. The hard part is that there is no moving carpet (something we are used to at Donner Ski Ranch), which made it VERY tiring to climb up that hill each time after a run. My daughter was exhausted walking up, which made it hard to go as many times down. We skipped going to Donner Ski Ranch this time since there were not much mention of COVID-19 protocol and no online reservations to limit capacity like Tahoe Donner did. Recommend Tahoe Donner and to go to the earliest reservation time if you want less crowds or monitor the tickets to see what time has most availability. read more

Well for the price they didn't do a great job my spouse was told a different time and so we ended up missing an entire hour we left to eat food as they had no options there beside 10$ donuts that were just full of sugar and not up to par for 10$ you had to wait inane to go down and so I asked the front hey are we able to leave and come back as we were all hungry so the front and a worker told us we could come back all day well that wasn't untrue so we would have never left had we known that and so we missed over am hr because of the unaccurate information anyways I don't recommend it's not worth the money read more

Overpriced "sledding" place. This is a very small "sledding" place. Yes, I feel like it's a pretend sledding area. Almost half the sleds has broken strings, the sledding path is like 15ft long and basically looks like a ramp. The entrance stinks. STINKS! It could be good for smaller kids who don't really want to sled, and just want to run around the snow. it would have been nicer if they provide a snowman kit since most of the area is flat anyway. read more

Tahoe Donner is a large recreational area with a downhill ski area, equestrian center, campground, and of course, snowplay. We stayed in the area with young kids, so took them to the snowplay area. It has a large hill and admission includes sleds and tubes. There is plenty of snow to build a snowman, although right now, all the snow is fresh so it is not sticking as well. There are a few camp fires to warm your hands, too. 1 star off: $19 for adults and $16 for kids is a bit much for basically rolling in their snow, which comes from the sky free! If you are looking for a free hill for sledding, put your GPS to 10800 Donner Pass Rd, Truckee, CA. It maps to a tobacco shop, but across the street is a nice hill for your own sleds. The hill is a bit smaller than Tahoe Donner Snowplay, but our kids had just as much fun (and their ski jackets and bibs got equally wet and gross). read more

So surprised with all the terrible reviews because this family of four had a great time! I will say that I agree with the "overpriced" arguments. Like other snowplay areas, everyone is charging use of their property. I will say that there was no charge to park! :) We must have come on a slow day because there was little to no wait for tubing. Pros: parking was easy and steps away from the snow area. Food truck on site (great plus, but we didn't try it out). Better for younger families. They had a number of picnic tables available. Cons: On a busy day, expect to wait. Overpriced even for a spectator. (2) adults, (1) 2 years old and (1) baby cost us $45 for the day and that includes 2-spectator tickets. Not great, but okay. This is such a joke. Expensive and so regulated. Both the sledding hills and the tubing hill are so small and the sleds don't even slide down the hill properly. Kids are flying down the hill, laughing and exhausting themselves just to get back to the top for one more ride. Ok, now imagine the opposite. You arrive to a large open space with a very gradual slope. But wait, you can't bring your own tubes/sleds, or even step foot on the other side of the fence without paying. How much? Well, if you have a "guest pass," it's $21 per adult and $13 per child.... Not bad, right? Wrong!!! The $21 is required for adults, but that gives you zero access to tubing, even with your own kids. The kids get a long line for tubing on a slow hill that they slow down more with rubber mats. It's terrible. Extraordinarily over priced. The tubing is barely a hill. Very slow even for my 4 yr and 6 yr olds and so many rules it really takes what little fun would be left out of it... can't go head first, can't push yourself, need to wait for the person ahead of you to stand up before they'll send the next person so it becomes a long line to sled down a small bump. As a home owner in Tahoe Donner, I am embarrassed by SnowPlay. As a now-owner, I would imagine one would feel insulted and ripped off by the ridiculous prices. Total waste of time and money. We spent around $150 for three adults and 2 kids. Even the very young kids in our group thought it was lame. This isn't even a hill it's a VERY slightly sloped flat that they slow down even more by adding rubber mats. You are barely even moving in the tubes. The plasstic sled kept stopping because there is no slope. No magic carpet to bring your tube back to the top. We did a couple runs and then left before our 75 min time frame was up. You are not even allowed to push your own kid down the slope. Someone jumped out and yelled NO DOGS as we were checking in with our pup. The best part of this was the donut truck in the parking lot but other than that it was a huuuuge waste of money. There are sled and tubing but the hills were barely hills. I'm going to be honest, it's a bit overpriced. Luckily, my two year old is free otherwise it would have been $78 for my family of four. With that said, here is my review: Check-in process: 2.05.0 It took almost 20 minutes to buy my tickets. The thing is that there were only about 6 small groups/families ahead of me. The waiting wouldn't have been such an issue if it wasn't for the fact that your stuck in a small area that is half on stairs. They could improve the process but having a second cashier and a slightly bigger waiting area. Bathrooms: 2.5/5.0 They do have a bathroom but it's one of those trailers that they rent for the season. This isn't a big deal but there are only two very tiny bathroom stalls. The size also isn't that big of a deal but they were disgusting. They were absolutely trashed. Activities Overall: 4.0/5.0 This is what you're actually paying for and they also hit the mark. They had two tubing lanes, three sledding lanes, a snowball throwing area, and an open area to play. Tubing: 4.0/5.0 The tubing was easily the highlight of our day and absolutely the most fun thing to do. However, there were only two lanes and the lines were long all day. It easily took 25 minutes of waiting just to go one time. They could improve this by adding a third lane and putting in some kind of lift for the tubes after you go down. Sledding: 4.0/5.0 The three sledding lanes were tucked away in the back which was nice for small children. They weren't very steep either and the run is roughly 100-150 feet long. I ding the sledding a point for two reasons; one because it's a ridiculous notion that you're paying to sled and two because they weren't that steep. My five and two year olds were left looking for a bit more excitement after a few run down the hill. They have plenty of room to add a steeper hill too! Maybe they could lower the price for people who choose to only sled. I'm not saying they should eliminate paying for sledding because they provide the sleds but it definitely isn't a $25 activity. Snowball Area: 1.0/5.0 Simply put, it was gimmicky and lame. The snow was trampled and dirty because it's in a main area and path to the sledding area from the tubing area and entrance. Open Play Area: 4.0/5.0 At the bottom of the hill we found a pretty relaxing area that had plenty of deep powder. My kids enjoyed this the most because they could make snow angels and awesome snowballs to throw at me. Food: 2.0/5.0 One concession but it takes card. Few options. Fries were good. Customer Service: 5.0/5.0 Adequate. Overall, we were satisfied and the kids had a blast but won't be going back in the future because of the price. read more

We've been here two times, and both times, enjoyed it a lot. Please keep in mind this is from the perspective of a mom with a very small boy. The slope of the tube hill is not very steep, so it's perfect for little ones and young kids. If you have tweens or teens, I can see how they would be disappointed and would perhaps want a taller, steeper hill for tubing. But if you have a small kid, this place is great! They have tubes, sleds, and little tools like snow ball makers. It can be pricey - we paid $25 per adult as the "general public" and starting at age 4, they start charging your kid child rates. But, we were staying in Truckee so it spared us traffic (didn't have to get on 80 to get to a resort), and it's way nicer then just finding a hill off the side of the road to play in as the snow is clean, and they provide all the sleds and stuff. We went here, family of 5, and spent $155. It wasn't worth it. Runs were very short and slow. Not groomed at all. I felt bad for the staff who had to constantly patrol telling people not to go down in what were obviously better runs because of safety. With some ropes and posts you could easily make it a better spot. There are WAY better places nearby for cheaper and you can have way more fun. In the end, I'd pay 5$ a person for this spot and feel good about it. read more

I can't say this place is completely bad but for kids over 7 this is not the place to take them. Especially if your kids are somewhat daring. Tahoe Donner Snowplay is geared towards very small children 6 and under in my opinion. The slopes there's are very small and the tube barely makes it down the hill. My 9 and 10 year old were over it after 2 rides. Which was a waste of money in my opinion but My 5 year old loved it. The ticket booth was literally a portable building. They offer tubes and sleighs. There is no "clubhouse" you will be outdoors the entire time. There are a few benches. The restrooms were across the parking lot which were not very convenient. This was my first and last time visiting this place. I would suggest going to either Boreal or Soda Springs for tubing with kids over 6. read more

We came during the massive winter storm a week ago and had the place almost entirely to ourselves. The sledding hill is a pretty low grade, and powder was too deep to go fast, but staff were helpful and friendly, there was cool music playing in the background, and and our 2yo daughter had as good as a first sledding experience as can be expected when it's 15 degrees out and snowing heavily. Unlike what other reviewers experienced, staff suggested we take a look at the sledding hill before we paid any $$, so we knew what we were getting. The price is steep and would have been excessive if we had to pay for all of us and without guest passes. read more

Do you enjoy spending lots of money to wait in long lines for minimal excitement? If so this is the spot for you! This is our second and final visit. Our first visit last year was also terrible but we were hoping they improved, unfortunately they haven't. It took at least 40 minutes just to get into the park. Then we waited in line for about 45 minutes to go down the hill on the inner tubes. The run is decent but lasts less than a minute. We ventured over to the sled area where there are far fewer cheap sleds than needed to accomodate the long line of people waiting to use them. At nearly $80 for two adults and two children its a total waste. Do yourself a favor and purchase your own sleds and find a safe spot somewhere to play on a hillside. This is an over-priced snowpark. We paid $34 dollars each adult and $10 for toddlers for a small sledding, tubing area. Not worth it. We just had to pay because we were already there. If you want to pay a lot for so little, you have picked your spot. This place has the potential to be a great place for kids and families, but instead they have turned it into a tourist trap that overcharges for EVERYTHING . Want a $3 soda, this is the place. To add insult to injury, the wait for the main attraction which is the inner tube run is approximately 30 minutes on the day we went. By the time you are at the front, your kids have become cold and started complaining. We are able to get a solid 2 runs (using run loosely) for the 30 second ride. I estimate for our family a cost of $15 for each ride. I highly recommend somewhere else! read more

This place is terrible. Although the lines weren't very long, the computer wasn't working so took forever to process. There are only 2 tubing hills-one is VERY short, the other just slightly longer. The longer hill is fun, but you have to drag your tube back up the hill for others to use. The tubes are heavy and, if you get a double tube with your child whose not able to help pull, very heavy. Given the amount of $ you pay to go here and they have attendants, they need to have someone or something to pull these tubes back up. The "sledding" area was a waste of time. There was no one to direct traffic so there were a bunch of people sliding down random places on the "hill" on a plastic sled. My kids and I attempted to "sled" but there wasn't even a grooved area to do it and the "hill" was a small mound of snow. We maybe made it 5 feet. My kids range in age from 5 to 14. I will not go here again and will not recommend it to anyone. read more
