As a beginner with 2 little beginners, I greatly appreciated this place and the cozy size relative to the major Tahoe resorts. I would say it's similar in size to dodge ridge with more accessible greens near the entrance. Pros: 2 lifts to greens are right up front. Learners and lessons have a good sequestered area, not Connected to other trails. Lesson teachers were a saint with my difficult son - he's finally surviving the bunny slope after a 90 minutes lesson! Cafeteria food isn't bad (but pricey as with everywhere) Snow condition was wonderful ! Very cold so not icy, fluffy and soft No extra price for parking close by (but lot is small) Cons: Lesson / rental line is a bit confusing Nowhere to sit in the lodge with a ton of table campers but seems to be a universal problem

Although the resort is on the smaller side compared to other resorts near by, it's conveniently located right off the freeway, options for rentals, parking lot is close and the lodge is big and has tons of food options to choose from. While in between taking breaks we stopped in at the lodge for some lunch. We got chicken tenders which were warm and crispy! The lifts had no lines and were easy to hop on. We had a great time!

I hate the sunshine lol so I don't do snow when it's this hot and sunny, but my kids and their dad are having a great time. Prices are reasonable and my daughter especially liked Emma! My daughter's friends and some family have said the staff isn't particularly very nice lol, but my middle kid told me to specifically call out Emma for being amazing and kept telling me how nice she is. So, thank you so much to Emma for going above and beyond to make my kid feel like she had a friend for the day on the slopes lol. We usually do Tahoe city or south lake, even north shore... this was actually our first time back in the donner/truckee area since like, ? 15-20 yrs ago. But our kids are at a weird stage in their ski skill set lol where this place is a perfect fit for them right now. Looking forward to coming back next season! Recommend this place, and love the access to the parking lot to the restrooms.

I love boreal particularly the runs. But the cafeteria service is terrible. There was a blonde girl checking us out and was giving me disgusting side eyes and didn't say a word to me or the other person I was with EVEN after they tipped her! Attitude is everything when you're working for a company, you want people to continue to want to pay money into your establishment. Makes it less special. Other than that boreals ski runs are fun.

Back in the day, when I used to go boarding just with friends, I would hit up the big resorts like Northstar and Heavenly. Now that I have a kid, though, Boreal is the perfect spot. I know that sounds crazy but Boreal has the best mountain with mini terrain parks for beginners and black star terrain for advanced riders. Originally, we started going there because they have the best priced packages for kids group lessons, rental equipment, and lift tickets. Once I realized how affordable that was, I stopped packing my own gear and just took a small lesson each time to elevate my ride. It's a good thing, since my kid is 13 now, and can almost outboard me, already. Anyway, we appreciate Boreal. They really made and continue to make snowboarding possible for us to afford. See ya there!

The worst snow tubing place ever!

Paid for 90 minutes of snow tubing... Definitely overpriced to begin with the area is really basic and it's far away from all the other services. No restrooms! We wasted an hour of our time because they are not currently accepting QR codes and you have to go back to get a physical ticket to go on the tubes. No accommodations no exceptions no refunds we will never be back or spend money here again.

I snowboarded over 20 times at Boreal this past season and had an overall great experience. I initially got the season pass bundle that includes three group lessons, which cost a little over $400. While the lessons themselves were just okay (about six people per group, so not much individual attention), the instructors were friendly and covered the basics well. Honestly, I mainly got the package for the season pass rather than the instruction, and it was definitely worth it. Boreal is a solid resort for learning how to snowboard. There's a good range of terrain--starting from the magic carpet and green runs to a solid mix of blues. For a relatively small resort, they make good use of their space. If you're into park riding, they also offer a good variety of features (rails, boxes, jumps, and even a half pipe), and it looks like they refresh them every few weeks, which keeps things fun and interesting. One of the biggest highlights is their night skiing. As far as I know, Boreal is the only resort in Tahoe that offers night skiing all the way up to 8 PM. Being able to hit the slopes after work or extend your day on the mountain was a huge plus and made the season pass even more valuable. The lodge itself has a fun and welcoming atmosphere. There's a cool bar inside that's perfect for relaxing between runs or winding down after a long day. On weekends, they even had live music, which added to the vibe. For families or anyone taking a break indoors, there's also a pool table and a few arcade games that are great for kids (or adults looking to kill time between laps). Boreal's location is another big perk--it's right off I-80, making it one of the most accessible resorts in the Tahoe area. Parking was usually easy to find, especially on Sundays and Mondays. Saturdays were more crowded, as expected, but still manageable. The lodge facilities are spacious and practical. I appreciated the available outlets--we brought a water kettle and made hot ramen a few times, which was a nice money-saving trick. Food-wise, they offer items like poke bowls, chicken tenders, and fries, but I didn't try any since prices were on the higher side. We rented gear for one day and tried out Burton Step-Ons, which were a fun experience--I'm seriously considering buying a pair. Boreal also has an on-site repair shop and a separate building called Woodward, where you can practice tricks on trampolines or skateboard indoors. I didn't use it myself, but it looked like a great facility for off-snow training. Other highlights: * Staff were consistently friendly and helpful * Bathrooms were clean and well-kept * Runs were groomed daily * Lockers are available, but I just stored my gear under benches with no issues A couple of minor downsides: the group lessons are expensive for what you get, and weekends can get busy. Boreal isn't on the Epic or Ikon Pass, so I might not be back unless they offer another affordable season pass. I did hear they have a heavily discounted Friday deal once a month, which could be a great option if you're just looking for a day trip. All in all, Boreal was a fantastic place to learn and ride consistently. Between the convenience, night skiing, friendly staff, and bonus amenities like the bar, pool table, and arcade games, it's a great value for beginner to intermediate riders or families looking for a fun day in the snow.

Had a great time during the most recent visit (3/14/25). Highs: clean dining areas, excellent bartenders, and a sweet set of beats by a live DJ. The bathrooms are notoriously "wet" and messy, but the staff did an amazing job today and they were great all day long! The rental folks were very helpful and efficient, too. Lows: truly not one at all! The crowd was fun and the staff was great in every spot we interacted with them. The $25 lift tickets (offered only once a month and they sell out very quickly) got us up there, but the great experience will keep us coming back. You'll note I didn't mention the weather: the resort can't control that so judging them on it isn't the best way to rate a ski hill IMO.

    Giselle S.

Fun park with lots of beginner runs. I think this is a great place to learn because the trails are very short & easy. We visited on a Friday, they offered $25 lift tickets, you can't beat that price! Overall we had a great time & where at the park until around 4, it started to get busier later in the day but in the morning the lines were short. That trails were well maintained & staff were friendly. Looking forward to returning!

Went to Boreal on MLK day this year (Jan 20, 2025) and had a blast. Their tubing program is nothing short of amazing. Ok, a couple of things you need to know up front... 1. The QR code you get with the registration is NOT your pass. That part was a bit frustrating for us as there are ZERO signs giving guidance on that. If you don't know that you have to take that QR code to a kiosk to get your actual passes, it will be a frustrating experience...it was for us. 2. Next, when entering the parking lot, we got jammed up pretty hard by someone in a truck at the entrance who was pretty aggressively telling us that we'd get ticketed if we didn't have the parking pass printed out and on the dash. The funny thing is that I didn't see that on the website and NOT ONE OTHER VEHICLE HAD A PASS ON THE DASHBOARD. Ok...to the good stuff. We chose the 1 pm session. At exactly 1, they opened the lane and started letting folks in. That was impressive as a lot of operations like this are run pretty lax and it was refreshing to see that they were hyper focused on ensuring excellent customer service. At the top of the runs, they never had less than 2 safety employees who were not only super attentive to everyone's safety, they were also very customer oriented. They helped little ones into tubes and pushed them off. They guided first timers to the best way to ride. They ensured everyone had fun while being safe. They also would not let anyone ride until ALL of the lanes were cleared from a run. Excellent way to run it. At the bottom, the safety folks were equally impressive and very helpful. One last thing. There is no restroom at the tubing location and that is a mistake...there should be. But...the closest is at The Woodward which appears to be about 400 meters from the tubing area. Make sure you tell your little ones to give you enough time to get them to the bathroom...mine didn't. We will definitely make Boreal our go-to snow play place, you should too!!!

Highly recommend it for little ones!

What happens if the park closes due to conditions and you didn't get to use your tickets for that day?

I believe they will let you reschedule your visit

How is the tubing? Is there a long wait for that too even if you buy your tickets ahead of time?

Yes, there's still a long wait for the tubing even if you have tickets ahead of time.

Hi, is there an area where the family and kids can just play in the snow and build a snow man or have snow ball fights or is this just a ski resort?

Not as part of Boreal, but there's a sno park next door that's perfect for that. When approaching after you get off the highway, go left instead of right. We had a great time in the forest there between the skiing & the rest area.

Hi, my family first time come here, can you help let me know about boreal mountain resort, it good for kid?

No. It's overrun with and run by drunk and stoned teenagers. Not a family-friendly resort. Try Soda Springs or Donner Ski Ranch.

Is it a dog friendly resort?

    No dogs

What exactly am I getting with the rental ticket? Just skiing equipment? How much is parking?

    Only lift parking free

Can i bring my own snowboard?

    Yes of course!

    Lift ticket prices for seniors?

You may as well get a season pass @ $169 for 2020, this provides free parking as well.

Equipment is included for kids 8 and under (size 4 and under). Steal! At that price point, this is the perfect snow day with a group of kids. For anyone outside of that range, rentals are $59 flat, whether you stay two hours or all day. Go all day to maximize your rentals! That said, the kids play area was pretty underwhelming for my kids (ages 10-12). The slopes were short, not all lanes were open, and there was only one black magic carpet running. That meant tubers, snowboarders, and skiers were all sharing it, which slowed things down quite a bit. Getting around wasn't the easiest either. There's only one entrance and exit and into the resort, so you're walking everything in while the kids carry their gear. Not terrible, but definitely inconvenient. We were told there was a tram running every 5 minutes, but it wasn't operating that day. My guess is they scale back operations on discounted days (fewer lanes open, no tram, only one black magic carpet). Parking was easy for the only entrance, which I appreciated, but it would be so much better if there was direct access to the kids area from the lot. Service was subpar. Staff weren't rude, but definitely not warm or helpful. No one showed the kids how to put on their boots or gear, and we weren't told helmets were required until my kids were already at the top of the slope, so I had to go all the way back to rentals. Also worth noting: kids 8 and under are restricted to the kids area only (no lifts or bigger slopes), which makes sense, but that wasn't clearly communicated upfront. Overall, the kids still had fun, and for $35, it's worth it. But I would only come back on a discounted day. I wouldn't pay full price for the experience as it currently is.

On top of that once we finally got to the top, and sat down on the tube and started sliding, we got stuck all through out the slope all the way down pushing with our hands, and the kids couldn't even reach with their hand to push themselves down. What a disappointment!!!! Sooo expensive, besides our day was ruined, the kids were so sad and down because of it. I went to the reception to request our refund because we had to leave to try to find another place to go have fun if possible, they said they couldn't do the refund there but to email costumer service. So I did. As soon as we got to the car. The next day they answered and said since the adults area was not optimal they would refund me those tickets even though it was against policy, but the kids they wouldn't as their area was working fine. We didn't even use the kids area, we went to the adults area, all of us!! Besides, we're we supposed to let a couple kids have fun and not the others ?? Also, shouldn't you warn people about it before they purchase the tickets ???? Is this part of their scam ? And the material broken and not operational? A hazard even!!! What a inconsiderate thing to do from their part. Well, I said I wanted the full amount back and explained the situation over and over again, and a couple days later the refund for the adults tickets that she had refunded us, disappeared!!!!! OMG !!! Honestly people, DON'T waste your money here.

The mountain views are spectacular, perched at the top of Donner Summit but offering easy access from Interstate 80. In addition to offering season-long training programs which vary in intensity and duration (from novices to pros), the facility has 25 km of groomed cross country trails. Several years ago, they began opening the trails to the public (previously it was a members-only facility). You can now purchase a full or half-day pass and rent poles, skis, and boots. A full day (pass and equipment) for adults is a great deal at $38. A commercial kitchen provides the essentials to store or prepare a lunch, and the downstairs offers locker storage (unlocked for guests) and showers. For kiddos that are just learning to cross-country ski, their Super Sliders program (which also offers drop-ins- lesson and equipment included) for the 4-10 year-old set is a great way to introduce skiing to kids. Coach Meg is awesome with little ones! In short, this is a destination for many training teams and ski races while also encouraging new skiers to explore and test their limits. The center is a hub for skiers of all levels and abilities- from pro to novice. Give it a shot!

You're surrounded by a great, down-to-earth crowd, and it feels like a true mountain community rather than a typical hotel. The staff were outstanding across the board. Everyone was helpful and welcoming, even with the challenges of the storm. The biggest highlight for our family was the food team. Our son has a dairy allergy, and they went above and beyond to accommodate him. They clearly communicated which foods were safe, and on multiple occasions prepared separate options just for him. That level of care made a huge difference for us and gave us real peace of mind. A special thank you to Juan, who was incredibly helpful throughout our stay. From assisting with the reservation, to coordinating with the kitchen, to being a consistent and reliable point of contact, he made everything smooth and easy. If you're looking for a unique, authentic Sierra lodge experience with great people and genuinely caring staff, this is a special place. We would absolutely come back.

Since my wife and I snowboard we knew we were not best suited to teach them and we wanted them to start off with skiing first since it's easier to learn. They were taught by the very best, Coach Patty! She is phenomenal and did great with our girls. Our girls had so much fun and improved so much from start to finish that they're now chairlift ready. Highly recommend taking your little ones here for lessons. I also want to note that they have a brand new lodge and it's awesome. Everything is new, clean, and nice. We ate lunch here as well and the food wasn't bad either. We'll definitely be back to take the girls skiing again!

Its highest elevation is below 7,400' feet. By comparison Vail's lowest elevation is more than 8,000' feet. Skiing here does occur on mountainous terrain but with well under 200 skiable acres compared to 5,300 at Vail. This is a small-scale resort and certainly cute. Those accustomed to Colorado or European skiing might find it limited. That said, it has all the makings of a perfect place to learn the sport especially if it's a child skier or beginner.
