Needed a last minute alteration and they were able to help us in under 24 hours ! Very quick to reply and did a great job!

I requested working buttonholes for the cuffs on a suit jacket and a sport coat. I also had the collars lowered for both jackets. Came back 3 weeks and the results were horrendous to say the least. I got a small partial refund when picking up the garments because the owner, Emir, was not in the studio at the time. I emailed and got in contact with Emir requesting additional compensation after I inspected my garments more closely at home. I also had another tailor that I use take a look at the damages. He said the job was rushed and the wrong buttonholes were used. Emir disagreed with my tailor's judgement, writing that I should come in to discuss. It has been a week and he has not informed me of any possible appointments. Here is a technical breakdown of what went wrong. 1. Wrong buttonholes. 2. Buttonholes crooked. 3. Buttonholes not fully cut open. 4. Bad stitching and other faults. 5. Weird spacing. The buttonholes on a suit jacket/sport coat/ blazer should be a keyhole shaped buttonhole (Google Search agrees with me). Comparison pictures attached. Emir said they get various buttonhole requests from retailers and with his "20 years of experience", buttonholes on cuffs do not have to be keyhole buttonholes. I disagree. First problem not using a keyhole buttonhole, it causes puckering of the fabric around it. The buttons have shanks and usually (I mean always) sit in the keyhole so the fabric lays flat. Also the keyhole helps keep the buttons aligned at the end of the buttonhole. I confirmed all my suspicion first with my old alteration tailor and then my bespoke tailor, his response attached. The work done for the suit jacket was the worst job I have ever seen. The person who worked on the jacket kindly left the chalk markings so I can see how distorted and crooked everything was. Spacing was uneven, buttons were sewn on 3 different ways on a single side of the cuffs. Some of the button holes were not fully cut open, about a third of the buttonhole was still closed. They left an inch of the collar not stitched and forgot a spool of threads in the pocket. I saw the work of another employee and it looked fine. Sadly, I do not trust the owner anymore after his comments. read more

As a busy healthcare worker during the COVID pandemic, I decided to try Tailoring NYC due to the perfect 5 star reviews. Boy was it a mistake, costing me nearly $2,000 ($1500 jacket + $340 alterations). Future clients, beware that you WILL NOT RECEIVE what you think. I will consider my near $2000 loss an investment as it will help you avoid this mishap. I will tell my colleagues, and I hope you do as well, about the extraordinarily poor suit tailoring at this place. If you need any more proof, refer to the picture of the email etiquette from the owner. They are purely there to make (perhaps take) money. My purpose in writing this review is to help future clients understand that the 5 star reviews for this place are not indicative of what you get here, a very tricky thing to ascertain with many places having boosting of their reviews. What was my purpose in trying this place? Well, as someone who has been spending almost all his time in the hospital, my time is limited and for 5 stars, you expect not only near-perfect alterations, but also this done in a professional and timely manner. When I first visited this place, I was greeted by a woman who seems to be the primary person that measures/pins you. She did not introduce herself by name. As I tried on the jackets, she seemed to pressure customers quite a bit, pinning and saying (without me asking) that X Y Z alteration would be done. What I thought was incredibly odd was that she requested me to button both buttons on a 2-button suit during pinning. When I noted that the standard is to button only the top, she said that all the men with suits that she has seen button both. I knew this was utterly wrong, and skeptical at this point. I was particularly hesitant about them messing with the shoulders since that is a tough thing for all but the best tailors. She also showed me a suit on a mannequin noting how well they tailor suits. Funnily, I noticed that one of the shoulders was actually sewn on half a centimeter higher than the other, creating an asymmetric look. Despite all this, I decided to trust the 5 star reviews and proceed. The first attempt left the shoulders narrow and with huge divots. At first, the woman blamed the sweater I was wearing. When I took off my sweater and wore the blazer on top of my bare skin, the divots were still there just as prominent and she had nothing to say! The tailor came and assured me that he could fix it. The second attempt saw the shoulder divot fixed but with the use of some shoulder support material that changed the overall "feel" of the jacket (shoulders were now more prominent and not a relaxed look). There was also a huge wad of cloth in the upper back. Again, the lady blamed what I was wearing when clearly it is not that with any other suit I own. I once again wore the suit with a bare chest and she had no excuses. Does a gentleman really need to become bare for a tailor to own up to their mistakes? The third attempt resulted in the pictures below - huge amount of fabric left over in the upper back still and numerous small divots around all the suit panel edges. A $50 off the rack suit looks finer than this! After a 15-hour shift, I was utterly shocked and disappointed. I ended up emailing the owner how disappointed I was. Luckily, I took my other 3 jackets of the same brand/fit to another tailor who did a near-perfect job, on the first try. I sent him a photo of what I was looking for which made the appointment easier. We went through some colors and materials, took some measurements, and I brought in a jacket I had so they had an idea of what I wanted for fit. If you've ever seen the Nas video for "Can't forget about you" he rocks a shiny gold or silver tuxedo jacket with a black lapel. When I saw this video back in 2006, I knew I wanted to get married wearing anything remotely close to it. Emir and the staff at heights+kenchi took what I had in mind and gave me a flawless product from fit to design. The experience, service and end product were amazing. I took my off the rack suit to Tailoring NYC I went in expecting an ordinary hem job, but walked out with a terrific custom piece. Not only did they hem the pants, but altered the inseam for a roomier crotch, tailored the shirt to a personal fit and the jacket forget about it! it fit like it was custom made for me. (As the young'ens would describe it) straight sauce w/the drip & that's no CAP. Forgot to mention it was also a rush order too...and they were able to accommodate me and didn't skimp on the quality. NEVER GOING ANYWHERE ELSE FOR WOMANS SUIT!!!!!!!! How's that for a statement?! I was doing my research on tailored suits. I hate the way off the rack suits look. Those wrinkles on the shoulders, and the extra fabric behind the neck. Long or short sleeves. ugh. Honestly there's nothing better than a man or woman in a impeccable suit. My Search lead me here, and I was super excited about the process. The interior is not typical of other suiting stores. It's got a great feel to it. I spoke with their tailor about my needs, and after explaining the process and the difference between custom and bespoke. I opted for bespoke. Why not right? It's my first REAL suit. Lets get fancy! I got to pick everything out myself! I picked the fabric, buttons and everything else that went into the suit. The choices of fabrics can be a bit overwhelming, but I'm in fashion and this is actually the fun part! They gave me their recommendations which helped and in the end I found something I liked. The guys there are helpful, and a breeze to work with and I'm happy. They made the process fun and exciting. I had my measurements taken then about 6 weeks later I came in for a fitting. I was more than please with the suits fit. Better than I had anticipated. Buying a Woman's suit off the rack and getting it to fit properly is a challenge. After getting a Bespoke suit from Heights+Kenchi I will NOT buy another crappy ill fitting off the rack suit again! Two months later I got an email from Kenchin asking if everything was ok with my purchase. I wanted to make the pants narrower then I originally asked for and Kenchis reply to my request was simple "Our pleasure - please bring it in and we'll take care of you" they got it done a week later and I was on my way! So far I've gotten 1 bespoke suit 2 custom suits and 5 shirts I would recommend any woman having a hard time finding a good fitting suit to check these guys out. Oh did I mention they do men's as well? My boyfriend got in on the fun, too! He has 2 customs, and 3 shirts. He wears suits everyday, and he prefers the fit to his new customs than his off the rack. Exactly what I needed! I was expecting to drop off my pants for a quick hem and waist adjustment for pick up the following day -- already an impressive turnaround -- and they ended up doing it while I waited! I can't guarantee you'll have the same experience (it was a slow night because of some seriously gross weather) but I think most will agree that they strive to help however they can. Everyone was super courteous: offered a glass of water and a paper towel to dry off (did i mention the weather was nasty). Adel was absolutely fantastic. I brought him a suit I ordered online from ASOS and he made it look like a $1500 custom-fit suit in less than 2 weeks turnaround. He also took care of some other pants for me and was thoughtful about all-around pricing. When I thought the break was too high (purely my ambitious original instructions), he sensed I was uncomfortable and suggested I bring it back if I didn't love it and he'd lengthen it in 10 minutes. I've been trying to find the right tailor in NYC and found exactly was I was looking for. If instead of a flashy store front you want one of those tailors where you have to go to the 9th floor of an old NYC building and find the door with the right number on it, you're on the right track. Reasonable prices, great advice, and I was really pleased with how the alterations on my suit from Bonobos came out. Very nice people and a great job. Wonderful, across the board. I went into Heights + Kenchi as the storefront has stood out to me a number of times. It has that rustic, utilitarian air to it that just kind of invites you inside. You can tell right upon entering that this is a place that caters to its customers and is filled with insightful tailors. I'm pretty picky about who touches my clothes, but I felt very reassured in the hands of Gus. I had brought in a pair of wide fitting trousers that needed an alteration. I wanted them to be restructured from below the thigh, to taper quite significantly. Now, this job isn't necessarily difficult, but it can be time-consuming. I had a pretty clear idea of what I wanted done to my trousers; I even brought in a reference pair. Gus was pretty straight forward with the pricing, and detailing what the job/execution would be like. The trousers needed to be taken in from both sides of each pair of seams per leg. He assured me that it would be done with the utmost quality and said there would be about a 7 day max turnaround time, which seemed fairly reasonable to me. I happily left the store and within 2 or 3 days had heard back from Gus who informed me that the job had been completed. To my surprise (at such incredible turnaround speed), I stopped by the storefront that same afternoon to retrieve my trousers. I was very happy as he showed me the work in detail, even the excess fabric that he had removed during the job. Upon returning home I was nearly speechless as I tried them on. The seams were beautifully resewed and the structure and flow of the trousers had not been lost during this delicate restructuring. The overall fit and result was exactly what I had wanted. I am very impressed and now I know that I will be a continuous customer. Every person needs a tailor, but they need one that must be detail oriented, honest, efficient, and worth the cost. I needed it by the end of the day Thursday so that I could bring it to a wedding that was out of town the following weekend. They exceeded expectations and certainly went the extra mile by making an additional adjustment past closing time on Thursday to make sure I had exactly what I wanted. Hey, I get it. You're a small businessman and that isn't an easy thing to do. A review like this on your yelp page probably doesn't make it easier, so attacking me and my credibility is probably the smart move for you to make. If Gustavo was assaulted by someone earlier that day, then I'm sorry for that; no one deserves to be be put in that sort of situation. However, your textbook of a response misses quite a few things, none of which you've really refuted other than to say that Gus was having a rough day so things happen: 1) Gustavo pretty clearly looked at me and my outfit (Timberlands and a fitted Yankee's hat) up and down several times and then proceeded to ignore me, yet was happy to talk to my white girlfriend. It doesn't take a genius to draw a conclusion from here. 2) The patronizing way that he insinuated that I couldn't afford to shop at your establishment. I've been informed what minimum price points are at every tailor I've ever been to, among other businesses. I know the difference between condescending down-talk and being informed of something. This was the former, and not the latter. 3) He didn't write down names, numbers, and had to nearly be begged for a business card to set up an "appointment." On this point, I'll conceded, that it is possible that this could've been caused by him being frazzled by a tough day as you alluded to. However.... 4) To this day, I've yet to receive a call back. If Gustavo was so upset by the way we felt upon leaving your establishment, he or someone else at your business might've...I don't know, responded to the message we left? The message that was left the next day, which was far enough removed from his "assault" that Gustavo or someone else might've been in the right frame of mind to...return a phone call? The other points you make are largely irrelevant. Thanks for pointing out that Gustavo is a minority, that was very helpful. To be frank, so is the earlier events of the day. If he went through a rough enough experience that he couldn't treat people with a bit of basic decency, then he should've shut up shop and gone home. I have no desire to come back and see your "security footage." I'll happily be taking my business elsewhere. Thanks. I scoured the web looking for a place to make my suit for my wedding. I read through hundreds of reviews, researched tons of locations and physically visited a dozen or so clothiers around NYC to see which place was the right one. Once I visited Heights + Kenchi, I just knew this was where I wanted to get my suit. The first common pitfall I've noticed when working with some bespoke/custom suit businesses is that only a small number of fabrics are made available to you. Another pitfall is the salesman you're working with doesn't really know how to work with you, isn't really open to working with what you, or may simply not know what he/she has available. Lastly, the salesman doesn't always take the time to try and explain in detail what you'll be receiving and how it will be made - they magically expect you to just know. Kenchi is not this person. Right off the bat when I first met Kenchi to go over my thoughts for a suit, it was like he was reading my mind. He presented to me many color options from an assortment of fabric books he had readily available. He discussed the advantages and disadvantage of each fabric and their weight and how it will cater to my special day (destination wedding in a hot climate location). I immediately could tell customer service is a high priority for him. Email response times are prompt. I even got a sneak peek of my suit before I tried it on. The suit is sexy. Top notch work. Although this one may not be a big deal to some, one thing that put him over the top for me is that his suits are made local in NYC. I'm finding more often that clothiers these days are outsourcing their work to China. I'm fine with helping out the local economy. It'll take about 4 weeks for the first iteration of the suit to be made and alterations will take about 2 additional weeks. When I'm in need for another suit, I'm coming back. read more

Happy New Year ! Well as promised, I am back to complete my review. I picked up my altered pants. 3 pants needed to be taken in, 1 pretty difficult as they needed to be taken in quite a bit. 1 pair needed to be let out by at least 1 1/2". Gustavo was there to greet me with his warm smile from the cold air outside. I tried all 4 pants on each was nicely pressed as if they came from the dry cleaner. Had a tux and suit heavily tailored for my wedding and the fit came out perfect on the first shot, with a slim and modern style ("fit like a glove" as he said).
