I came to Tailors on Blake to get my wedding dress altered. When I came in for my appointment they were not vertical friendly and didn't seem to be expecting me. They had me go into a room to put in the dress and I was so surprised at how dirty it was. Wedding dresses are long and drag on the floor, the carpet looked like it hadn't been vacuumed in a long time. Once someone came to talk to me she spent 3-5 minutes looking it over and talking to me. She quoted me $1000 to fix it. I said I would need to think about it and when I came out of the dressing room she was gone. No one acknowledged me. They did a horrid job if you can call it a job! Didn't help me into my wedding dress OR out of it. While I'm trying to get out of there I end up ripping part of the backing and having a dirty dress now! Floor was filthy with dirt and it had sewing needles all over the floor. When there was someone with me they told me rudely it would cost $1500 to tailor my dress and I should just buy another one. Worst experience by far from anywhere I've gone. I decided to give Tailors on Blake a try because the hours and location are a bit more convenient than the tailor I usually go to. Parking was easy and the interior was clean w/ well-lit, spacious fitting rooms. I brought them two men's shirts for the following alterations: Shirt 1: Shorten sleeves and torso length Shirt 2: Shorten sleeves The work was just fine and the turnaround time was about a week. However, I was shocked by the price. The total came out to $85. That's double what I'm used to paying elsewhere. read more

I recently brought a couple of jumpsuits here to have the legs hemmed. Upon arriving, I was greeted immediately and shown to a dressing room right away. The tailor was available to assist me right away and I was probably in and out within 15 minutes! My items were ready after a little over a week (no problem - I brought them in about a month before I needed to wear one of the items) and the prices were very reasonable. The alterations are very well done and exactly what I wanted. I will definitely be back for any future alterations I may need! Highly recommend! read more

I am sorry to write this as I have had excellent experiences in the past. I had two bad experiences that left me feeling, that they seem to now value profit over customers. I had a gown altered and it did not fit when I picked it up: and was charged more for further expensive alterations. Then another gown was shortened and it was not shortened enough. I discussed this with the seamstress and she insisted that it was fine though I knew it was not. The result was that I constantly tripped over my gown and needed to hold the hem up during a very very important event. I learned to listen to my instincts. Please gently listen to your customers. read more

Do NOT go here. They were unfriendly, not helpful and the owner who measured me had absolutely no professional decorum, not to mention a bad attitude. The adjustments made to my dress were so minor that it was almost unnoticeable. When I called the company to ask for a refund, I was hung up on, yelled at and the refund wasn't issued until 5 months later. Absolutely the worst experience. I brought my bridesmaids dress here to be altered and when I went to pick it up today, the length was fine but they ruined the bust area. When I pointed out their mistake, instead of saying, " sorry let me fix it" this woman told me 1. my bust was heavy (i'm only a c cup) 2. I should stand up straighter 3. thats just how the dress was made. This woman was unreal and clearly can't own up to her own mistakes. I paid, mentioned something to the owner, and left with my ruined dress. I have never had worse customer service and they completely overcharged. I have used them a million times... I'm tall and pretty thin, so almost everything I own needs to be altered. They have never let me down, in about eight years of using them frequently. They are also really great at re-purposing things that just aren't quite right -- making a skirt out of a dress, or combining two pieces into one... they are great at doing this! The work I've had done here has turned out just fine, and the workers seem knowledgable. However, the woman who I assume is the owner is quite rude. I've been in on more than one occasion where I've seen her be rude to both her employees and her customers, even snapping at the employee WHILE she was trying to help me. In general, I really like this tailor. That said, let me tell you an anecdote about my past experience...I went to get a bridesmaids dress tailored with my friend Karen. When I put my dress on, the seamstress looked at me and said, "Are you pregnant?" I looked at her confused and said, "What? No." She then replied, "Oh. Well you better wear spanx." What a mean and insensitive thing to say to a girl, amiright?? Further, I'm a very normal sized girl, with very normal-sized insecurities. This experience made me very sad. I was completely appalled, and hope no girl ever hears such insensitive words from anyone, especially a complete stranger. read more

I brought a chiffon floor length bridesmaid dress in to get altered by Mary. I knew I needed the straps shortened, and Mary also suggested she put a stitch in the vneck part of the dress so it wasn't too low. I made the mistake of not getting an estimate, because when I picked up the dress a few weeks later, the "quick stitch" Mary suggested to me was posted on the receipt as $48, not to mention the stitch was poorly done. The sleeve shortening was only $36, which leaves me wondering how it is possible that could have cost so much. The good news is that the dress fit. The bad news is that I paid over $90 to have a simple alteration that should have cost less than $50. Please view the photo section of this page as I have added a picture of the stitch in the vneck. My advice to you if you decide to go here is to ask for an estimate beforehand, although my sister had the same problems with being overcharged for things even when she had been given a (false) estimate during her fitting. read more

If you are looking for perfectionist seam work, then you've come to right place. However, if you want something that fits and is affordable, look elsewhere! I took my wedding dress here, and should have shopped around more, but Mary (the owner) seemed very knowledgeable and trustworthy. When I went to pick up my dress for my final fitting, the bust area was still way too big. Mary insisted that there was nothing we could do (trying to just shoo me out the door), and that I would just have to "tape myself in"...to my custom tailored wedding dress. Not to mention, I still wasn't happy with how loose the whole thing was on me, but she refused to make it any tighter. Long story short, after spending $700 on alterations, the dress still didn't fit, and I was not happy with it but Mary didn't care....so I had to end up bringing my dress to another tailor. The next tailor could not believe how horribly the dress still fit me and and from my story, actually offered to do the rest of my alterations for FREE she felt so bad. She ended up bring in the bust about 2 inches, and about 1.5 inches around the entire waist area. I also brought my rehearsal dress to Mary while my wedding dress was being altered to see what it would cost to bring the dress in about half a size. She told me $32, and then changed the price to $38 since she realized she would have to sew around a zipper. I decided that was reasonable and had her take the dress in (rather than do the simple alterations myself). When I went to pay for it, Mary charged me $87. When I argued that that was not the price she told me, she snapped back at me, and made a complete scene right in front of another customer. She kept insisting that she told me $80 before, and that she made it clear (however I would have never agreed to $80...I agreed to $38). It quickly became obvious that she puts very little emphasis on customer service, so I had no choice but to fork over the money. It was so unprofessional. Not to mention, this dress is also still too big on me.. Mary also cancelled one of my fittings 30 mins before my appointment, when I was already on my way and had taken off work. So, I opened the front door and asked the woman to grab the puppy for me. She muttered very rudely, "So you want me to come to you?! Wow." And scoffed in my face. She was so offensive. I took in 2 skirts that I adored but couldn't fit into after losing weight, and they are in a word- perfect. The staff is very friendly and helpful. These are honest hardworking people, which is hard to find nowadays. They are upfront about how much their services cost, and will tell you the price before you leave it with them. Everyone has to make a living, so don't expect to pay $20 to have a major job done on a garment. You get what you pay for. I wouldn't trust anyone else with a treasured garment.
