Not only did Tai answer the phone on the second ring but after we dropped off the pants he finished the job in a day. Perfectly done. His prices are so reasonable we tipped him half of the amount that he charged. If you're coming off Division go past his mailbox to his house, which has a large sign. Super reliable. I always get my pants hemmed here. He only charges five bucks per pair which is fairly cheap. Only downside is he takes it easy so he usually takes a while to get them done. I've never used a tailor for alterations before, but based on the two OTHER reviews though, I expected it to be quick and cheap for alterations. The cheap is true, I had a blazer that needed the sleeves shortened, and it was only $15. Considering it was also lined, and an outer strap also had to be moved, I was more than happy with the price. I dropped it off on a Wednesday, said it would take probably two days. Okay, I call back that next Wednesday, a week later. He says that it's not ready, and actually, that he can't find it. What the hell? Before panic set it, he called back and told me he found my jacket, but hadn't started yet. Now, when someone quotes me two days, and it's already been a week and he hasn't looked at it...that kind of makes me mad. All said and done, it was not until that Friday (a week and two days) that my jacket was ready. The sleeves were slightly uneven (one shorter than the other) and the decorative straps had been sewn on crooked, and still had loose thread where they used to be. There's not any way he can reverse what he's done and make the sleeve longer, so I'm stuck with a slightly uneven jacket now. He might be good at hemming pants, but I'd steer clear of anything moderately difficult. Don't waste your money, or your time. read more

No bells and whistles. Just a great guy, doing incredible work, at very reasonable prices. Due to a company holiday party, and some procrastination on my part, I was in need of some last minute alternations to a suit. I recently lost about 30lbs and almost never wear a suit. When I tried on my one and only suit, it was much too big, and I looked ridiculous. On a Tuesday, I visited his shop needing my suit altered and ready for wear that Saturday night. This meant slimming the coat sleeves, taking in the back, shortening the pants hem, and slimming the pant legs. Tai was so nice and didn't make me feel like the idiot I knew i was, for making this last minute request. He accepted the work and had the suit altered and ready for pick up on FRIDAY! His work was flawless, and my suit feels brand new. As long as I live within 50 miles of Tai's Tailor, it will be my go-to spot for all my tailoring needs. Very neat work at a reasonable cost. Sometimes it takes longer for him to finish than the original estimate, but that is because he is so popular and is always busy. Tai did right by my partner who needed to have a pair of 70s/80s suit pants to be narrowed down (think bellbottom-y) and hemmed. He was able to take in and slim down the pant legs within a reasonable time (less than a week) and it was super duper affordable. A great tailor at a good price. The only thing is that he didn't call my partner to pick up his pants because Tai didn't want to call an out-of-state phone number. Ha! I've been using Tai for probably 10 years. You have to be able to put up with his disorganization, yes, and you have to call him the day before you want it done to remind him to do it, which some will find unacceptable. But I love the guy and he does great work for cheap and I want to support him, so I keep going to him. He'll do any weird work I give him: repaired a leather dog leash, patched up jeans with holes several times, replaced the zippers in my dog beds (hey, those dog bed covers are expensive!), and all kinds of regular tailoring repairs. I'm gonna see if he'll reinforce the frayed webbing on my Timbuk2 bag's strap next. Support him if you can deal with his "style" (the 1 star reviews are accurate). CASH ONLY. read more

If you don't want your clothes ruined, I suggest you go somewhere else. Tai is a nice guy and fun to chat with but he ruined two pairs of pants. I was able to get him to fix one where they are wearable but as someone else said, he argues about style. I had some work pants that were just a tad too long and a pair of jeans that were very long. He made them both high waters! Much MUCH shorter than agreed upon. He seemed annoyed that he had to fix his mistake when I returned. Still have to pick up the work pants, but even if he lets the seam out some, they will still be too short and now I'm stuck with them. It is difficult for me to find pants that look good and fit well so I am extremely angry. His prices are cheap AF and you get what you pay for. Don't waste your time. I hate to say it but I will never return. read more

i have been going here since the early 90's. Tai is the best tailor i have had and boy howdy have i had a lot of tailors, including Nordstrom's. I was born with short arms so ALL my coats and jackets, many types of tops must be a challenge, but he has always done them to perfection, with a reasonable charge and in a timely manner. At times when i have requested he was even able to put the cuff back on the sleeve after shortening. He is amazing. I tried someone closer to me after we moved. With great patience and what i believed to be accuracy we hemmed the sleeve. When i got it back one of the sleeves was too short and the expensive coat was ruined. Those people did not offer to even wave the cost of the tailoring! wha?? I can be self-concious pertaining to my arms but he has always made me feel comfortable. .I will never leave Tai again. i HIGHLY recommend him. read more

After reading many positive reviews I thought I'd give Tai a shot. I dropped off in May, went back three times and same story every time. Story goes, couldn't find my three pairs of pants and coat. Once he found my bag of clothes he said he'd do them same day and for me to come back the next day. Every time I went back the next day he wasn't there, or would pick up the phone. Once I returned he didn't even remember me or my non finished pants and coat. By October I took my four unfinished articles of clothing to another more organized tailor. I went here in December to get my girlfriend's jacket lined with faux fur. We had bought the fabric at a wholesale fabric place for cheap. He acted very hesitant about doing it and said it would be difficult and take a long time and possibly not look good given the light structure of the jacket. He said it would be $50, which I thought was expensive, but then when I took it to another tailor downtown, they said it would be $80. So back to Tai's I went. I'm so glad I did! It did take around 3 or 4 weeks to complete, which is understandable. And it looked wonderful when he was done and was just what my girlfriend wanted. She's very happy with it and that's what really matters. Tai is a very skilled tailor, and I think his work is the best value as well compared to other tailors in the area. The only reason I deducted a star is because when I went back the first time he was closed 30 minutes before the closing time given on the door. It really annoys me when businesses aren't open when they say they will be, which seems to be quite common here in Portland. read more

This was my first time coming in. I had a zipper pull that got ripped off in the dryer. He stopped what he was doing and had my zipper fixed within 5 minutes and he sent me on my way. He didn't charge me anything because he said he didn't do anything. But, perhaps what he didn't realize, is that small gesture made my day. I was in a hurry to get a bridesmaid's dress altered less than a week before the wedding. I did a google search for tailors in my area and Tai's Tailor came up and had good reviews so thought I'd try it. He was great! The dress was long, strapless, and made out of chiffon. Not only did he fix the hem length, but he also made the chest area smaller so that it wouldn't fall off of me. The day that I picked up the dress he needed to close the store early, so he made sure to call me to let me know what time I needed to get the dress by. The price was extremely reasonable. Myself and 2 other girlfriends have been to Tai tailor for years. I would have to say probably about over 150 pairs of jean between me and my friends. We are very happy with Tai. The fact is we only pay $5 for alteration a peace. Also, I never have had any problem with my clothes and heard no complaints from my friends. He is a very busy tailor maybe because he charge so cheap:-). One time I had to wait for 2 weeks for my clothes to be done. Well, it's ok!. Because all this years I only have one time wait. I appreciate all the works he done for us. Without this place, I don't know where to go to find that price. read more
