The seamstress here does a horrific job. She is either highly inexperienced/unskilled or does not care about the quality of her work. I brought in three tank bras and a brand new silk dress to have the straps shortened. She completely butchered my silk dress (which was not cheap). It's asymmetrical now, with a crooked hem, and lies funny (there's a hump on my upper back). She cut the straps (but not in a symmetrical way) and simply brought the back up higher, so the crooked hem lies awkwardly high on my neck). You can see that she sewed the hem a couple of times and had to take stitching out and redo it, so there are holes in random places in the areas she was working on. Yes, the fabric is probably really difficult to sew, but she could have told me she was not able to do it. Instead she did a botch job, and it's unwearable. As for the bras, she simply sewed a hem across and left the bulky remains, so they are unwearable. When I picked up the items, she said it was too thick to sew down. She did try to sew down the bulk on one but didn't even try for the others. All of them are unwearable, though, because the bulk should have been cut off (would have taken two minutes to do it that way). An inexperienced seamstress would have known how to solve this problem. She must get lots of complaints because she makes you pay for her services up front. I just walked out the door and didn't check her work until I got home, so I had no chance to ask her to fix it. Of course, I'm never going back. Don't bring anything here that you care about. It's not worth it, she'll only make the clothing even more unwearable. She probably expects you to complain and won't do a good job until you ask her to. Don't waste your time. read more

I just got back a cashmere and mohair sweater and they are both ruined. They are stretched out of shape beyond belief. I am an XS and they are both XL now. A fitted sweater than came in at the waist is now completely straight from the the armpit down. I got these sweaters in Ecuador and are irreplaceable. Do not take the chance. Plus, they're really expensive. See picture, this was NOT an oversized sweater. I'm going to try to wash it now to see if I can get it close to it's old size. Allrighty. I adjusted my original ravings. I had given them a 5 before this! Bummer. The sweet and short of it: I had some cute shorts that I wanted a zipper put into the back of. No problem. I give shorts in, the zipper is placed, looks good, BUT- it hardly budges. Seriously couldn't get the zipper to move up or down with out extreme force. The tailor dude messed with them and fudged some excuse about how they didn't "make the zipper" so they couldn't be liable for it. SAY WHA? So if the zipper breaks can I bring it back? Reasonable question. The answer? No. Because he didn't make the zipper. That's some BS. Who doesn't check their products/ craftsmanship before sending it off to the world? Those guys. Who is totally and unreasonably unaccomidating? Guess. You're right! I had an Army class A suit (the green dress uniform) that fit terribly. It's like they mass fit 300 people in one day, ow wait, they did. Nonetheless I had to get my blazer shortened. Most seamstresses and tailors wouldn't touch it for less than $100. Abraham altered it all over and now it fits great. he also did it for half to one-third the price of the other tailors. He made this uniform look INCREDIBLE!!!!!! I was in a jam and needed him to finish my alterations in two days, he made it happen for no extra cost. I had to wait while one of my patches was sown on. In the 20 minutes I was waiting I learned so much about tailoring from Abraham, who was making a suit in the same room I waited in. I am convinced I want a tailor made suit when I get the money saved. I later found out he made suits for Johnny Carson years back. I brought a one of a kind fur here and came back to the lining shredded. It looked like someone had taken a razor blade to it. He tried to tell me it was poor quality, but I know the designer and all her clothes are made with factory machines of the highest quality. I had to tell him I couldn't pay for his work. I received a call on pick-up day re: a 3 piece suit that wanted cleaned. I was asked by Abraham's employee if I wanted my jacket cleaned since some of the beading was missing. I informed the man that when I put my suit in the cleaners nothing was wrong with it, it just needed cleaning. I went to the cleaners to see what he was trying to tell me and found my jacket had been mangled and literally destroyed. I told him he was was not telling the truth and immediately said it was my word against his word. You can see where a cart or something ran over it. It is a filthy mess. My saving grace for court is that I have a witness of how my jacket looked when I put it in Abraham's cleaners. I asked for Mr. Abraham, the owner, and he lied more then the first person I spoke with. I am horrified at his behavior as a business man. He did not take responsibility of destroying jacket. What is even more disturbing is that my sister, who put my suit in the cleaners, had to sign a wavier for an ink mark on another skirt that I had cleaned. When I asked why she didn't need to sign a waiver for missing beading and rhinestones, naturally he couldn't answer that. Being a tailor he knows quality when he sees it and doesn't want to foot the bill. WHAT A BIG COWARD! I am putting a picture of my suit on face book for the world to see. I've taken a few things here for alterations and cleaning. I was really happy until today. I took a long sleeve knit shirt and a couple of skirts in for alterations. First, the tailor was out to lunch. That's understandable. They told me he'd be back in 10 minutes so I ran an errand and returned, only to see him driving off. They managed to get his attention and he came back and looked at my garments. All he would say about the skirts was that it would be really expensive to take them in and that he wasn't a seamstress (still not sure why he couldn't take in the skirts because there were plenty of women't clothes hanging there waiting for alterations). He did say he could repair the shirt, which I asked for the sleeves to be cut and hemmed due to a hole in the elbow. I paid 16$ for the shirt and was on my own with the skirts. I went back today to pick up the shirt and it was nowhere to be found. Finally, after 10 minutes, they found it and it was just on a hanger. They hadn't cleaned it or even folded it properly. The hems on the sleeves were crooked and they were sewn with a slipstitch and white thread. I was shocked because I had paid 16$ for what I hoped would be a professional alteration and was told they couldn't refund my money because the "tailor" side was separate. I wasn't about to argue, since they could care less. I'll just never go back. I'm sure there are plenty of "seamstresses" who wouldn't mind taking in a skirt... read more

I am shockingly disappointed with this place. This is my first negative yelp review ever. I am a strong believer in not negatively reporting on an establishment unless there is reason to warn others of potential damage. I brought in my gorgeous comforter cover, given to me as a hand me down from my mother. It is made of a yummy crushed silk. I brought the comforter in because 8 buttons had fallen off. The buttons are each covered in the same material as the comforter but had lost the eyelet to simply reattach. I left the comforter at Abraham's with the agreement that I would receive a call with a quoted price and ability to attach the buttons. I received a call a week later by the man who does the alterations. I was quoted $72 and told that they were able to do the job. Today, I picked up my comforter. I was returned 6 of the 8 buttons. The man put on cheap looking plastic buttons that a child could easily sew on. One place was missing a button all together. He told me "no extra charge for the buttons" and continued to ring me up for the quoted $72. I told him that I was not pleased with the buttons or the work. I specifically came in for MY buttons to be sewn on. Lastly, they cleaned the comforter and the material is ruined. The decadence and sheen of the silk is now matted and muted. I am beyond disappointed. He only chuckled in response and told me the buttons he had chosen were good buttons and that he had done a beautiful job. I am furious. I let him know how disappointed I am with the job that was done without my input. I paid him the full price. I will never go there and neither should you. read more

****BEWARE!!!! DO NOT COME HERE!!!!**** I've been coming here for 13 years. I recently dropped off a pair of expensive pants to have the button repaired for the 3rd time. Because it was the 3rd time they said I don't need a ticket they know the pants and they'd be ready in a few days-I was unsure about this but had been coming for so long I figured it'd be ok. When I returned to pick them up, the owner, Abraham Lee, couldn't find them and asked me to come back after Memorial day weekend, which was upsetting because I needed them for the weekend. When I came back, he again said he couldn't find them and didn't remember them because they do so much there. He asked that I return the next day. I did and he still couldn't find them and asked if he could have 2 more days. I gave him my number and asked him to call when he found them. No call cam so after 4 days I returned and Abraham accused me-a 13 year customer-of picking them up already. All of a sudden "he remembered me picking them up" after saying many times "he didn't remember-they do so much there." And then said it wasn't me, but some other guy came and picked them up for me. Made no sense at all. Unbelievable. He was obviously embarrassed and changing his story every time I asked how he'd like to settle this. After asking 8 times he finally offered $50.00 in credit for $300.00 pants. AND no apology. Worst customer service ever. Just plain horrible human behavior. Knowing that I'd been coming there for 13 years and am a neighborhood local, this was his solution for his obvious error in giving my pants to "someone that came and picked them up." Yes someone picked them up-he gave them away to the wrong person! I've file a complaint with the BBB so we'll see how he intends to fix the situation. Until then, don't ever bring your clothes here. I'd been coming here out of convenience and loyalty for so long-my mother owns dry cleaners in Virginia and I know it's hard business-but you shouldn't have to return something 3 times to have it repaired-and then be accused of picking them up when they actually gave them to the wrong client. Plus, there's no parking, and the place is a total mess-it's not surprising that he lost them-it's sheer luck that it didn't happen before.If he had just apologized and offered to replace them-I found some for less than half the price, it would've been ok. But to be to proud and stubborn to admit fault and lash out at a loyal customer is just plain dysfunctional behavior. read more

Abraham has done all my laundry and alterations and I've always had great service: that is, until he lost 3 custom shirts I'd left to be laundered. After a couple weeks of searching the shirts couldn't be found. I just assumed he'd reimburse me the value (discounted from original cost) of the lost shirts. But no, he flat out refuses to accept responsibility and he lost my shirts!!!. I am surprised to be treated so brusquely and unfairly. DO NOT TAKE EXPENSIVE CLOTHES HERE (or anything for that matter)!!!! I took a pair of raw selvedge denim jeans to be cleaned because I accidentally sat in some gum the night before. I usually take my clothes to Eco Drycleaner on Broadway but was not feeling well this day and this dry cleaner is very close to my house. So I decided to take a chance on Abraham's. Big mistake. When I dropped the jeans off Abraham was the one who took the pants from me. He assured me he could get the gum out. I explained that these were raw jeans that are not pre-shrunk and have not been washed previously, they've only been dry cleaned. When I picked the jeans up it was after I had an eye exam so my eyes were dilated and very sensitive, plus I was still a little sick with the flu. Needless to say I wanted to be in and out as quickly as possible so I checked to make sure the gum was removed and left. It wasn't until the next day (Christmas) that I went to put them on before going to a family dinner before I noticed they had in fact been washed/dried. I could barely get the pants on. I made multiple attempts to stop in and talk to Abraham but he was never in. Finally I dropped the pants off and waited for him to call me, which he finally did. He claims that the material and dye are cheap so it's not his problem. If anyone is familiar with selvedge denim they will know that they are very high quality. I urged him to look up the manufacturer online and see for himself that the material is in fact high quality. I then explained to him that the jeans have been dry cleaned a couple times and even brought in a piece of the jeans that was left over from hemming the jeans when I bought them for comparison after we got off the phone. I was very polite with Abraham and tried to have a civil conversation with him. He talked over me the entire time we were on the phone and was very insulting. His suggestion was to return them to the place I purchased them (Nordstrom). I can't in good conscience try and return these jeans to Nordstrom when I purchased them a year ago and he (or an employee) ruined them. So now I'm out $180 unless I take him to small claims court. I will definitely file a claim with the BBB but that probably won't replace my favorite pair of jeans. Moral of the story, I wish I would read Yelp reviews first. read more

Extremely disappointed with the customer service at Abraham's. I brought my dry cleaning to Abraham's for over three years, and they were fine as long as nothing went wrong. But recently I bought a new suit, wore it for one business trip, and then had them dry-clean it. I didn't inspect the bundled suit I received back but later realized that it was a totally different jacket. Here is where I started to become seriously disappointed with these folks. They first suggested that it could have been Nordstrom's who made the mistake, as Abraham's has a "system of tagging" that wouldn't allow that. After I went to Nordstrom's and ruled out that possibility since Nordstom's doesn't sell that brand of jacket, they agreed to look for it. They had me return every week for three consecutive weeks, each time not recognizing me as a came in and then asking for another week to look. After the fourth week of looking, they said they couldn't find it and reminded me once again that their "system of tagging" wouldn't allow for that mistake. They then said that although I seemed honest, they can't just take responsibility for it since people sometimes try to scan them. People make mistakes in business all the time. As usual, the most disappointing thing is not the mistake but how they handle it. Unfortunately, although I reminded them that I was their loyal customer for several years already and it should be very clear to them that I wasn't trying to scam them, they made no serious attempt to rectify the situation. They knew it was a fairly inexpensive suit that came from Nordstrom's Rack, but didn't offer any portion of trying to get it replaced. They didn't even offer dry-cleaning credit. Overall, this is highly disappointing experience with them and I don't plan to return. They gave me contradictory responses and did everything possible to avoid admitting any responsibility. Little do they know that I bought that suit for a new position involving lots of travel, and my dry-cleaning volume was about to triple. Hopefully this experience is helpful to potential customers out there, and if anyone has any strong recommendations for a dry cleaner in the NE or downtown, I'd be appreciative. read more

This place is great! Upon moving to Portland I'd hoped to find an eco-dry cleaner, but had trouble finding one on the internet in NE. I chanced upon Abraham's and lo and behold they're an eco-dry cleaner. The care and finish they put into the clothes is just as keen as their care for the environment. If I can't find a comparable one in SE Portland I may actually make the drive back to Abraham's. read more

She said she would rush it for me. She actually said there would be a slight chance it would be done by Thursday after 5pm too. I would definitely go back. My only issues with the place is it's open 8 - 5pm. I wish it were open from 7- 6 that way I could swing by on the way in to work not when everyone is rushing home. Abraham's Cleaners is amazing. I was coming up to Portland from California and I needed to dry clean my wedding dress for round two of festivities. On the way up, I researched cleaners in Portland and Abraham's came up. I called and asked what time they closed and Abraham answered. He told me that they closed at 6. I told him the situation that I was on the way up from California driving up I-5. He said no problem and to keep him posted. We arrived in time and he greeted us professionally with a tailored monogrammed shirt and a smile. I showed him the dress. I also had another dress that needed the zipper to be fixed and my husband's suit and dress shirts. I asked him if he could have it done in 2 days. He was skeptical but he told me he would try his best. He explained that the zipper would be redone by someone else that they work with. He told me he would call m as soon as it was ready. He called me after 2 days and when I came to pick it up, both my dresses were as good as new and he only charged me $75 to clean the wedding dress! Abraham, you're amazing! If I still lived in Portland, I would take ALL my dry cleaning there. read more

Speaking from rather extensive experience from Vancouver BC to Eugene, this is the only competent tailor in the entire Pacific Northwest. Don't know much about the dry cleaning side of it though. As with all apparel businesses, you have to know what you're getting into, which is why some of the negative reviews on here are inevitable. There's a cultural element as well, as the owner is Korean and with a unique personality. If you're willing to go through some trial and error, be specific, and not expect what can't be done, you will eventually find one of the most skilled, creative, and adaptive tailoring duos this side of pitti uomo. read more

Abraham is one of the last great tailors in Portland. He knows how to take care of your fine clothing: suits and dresses. He can even repair holes in suit fabric if you snag your Brioni three-piece pants on an exposed wire in upholstery as I did. I was totally upset. Once rewoven the hole was only visible from the inside. This service is expensive and labor intensive but a lot less expensive than a new suit!!! read more

I am loathe to even give one star. I had on three seperate occasions the experience of their not having an item with my pick up order, running around searching and having me have to pull the list and PROVE that I was indeed missing the piece. They finally did find these items, but faith lost. Beware because if you are not paying close attention you will have donated clothing. In addition to this I had two expensive pieces-one dress and one top which were ruined. The dress is a color block which they did warn me may bleed on the edges. I signed a form acknowledging this. No bleeding on the edges, Hurray! But the mid panel looked like it had been in a dry cleaner and had scorch marks. Do not entust anything dear to you to these people. Completely deficient in skill or acknowledgment of thier issues. Highly disappointed!! read more

I have taken many designer label jackets and pants to Abraham for extensive alterations. He is the best tailor in town. He makes suits from scratch and has been tailor to members of the Trailblazers. He does not like to do normal alterations that can easily be done by the average seamstress. But if you need precise tailoring with seams lined up and shoulders perfectly aligned, this is your man. read more

Worst dry cleaner ever! First, I had to wait a looong time for them to find my garment. How hard could it be? Second, I had brought in a sweater with some coffee stains on it, which I pointed out to them. When I got it back the stains were still there and the owner argued with me that they had cleaned it. He agreed to redo it and after 10 days it still had not been done. Since this was now the third time I had been there to pick up my dry cleaning, I demanded my stained, unclean garment back. Because this is the closest cry cleaners to my house, I have given this place three tries, and all three times there have been problems. The owner is rude and unapologiteic when he makes a mistake. Twice he has found a small defect in an item of clothing after I drop off the order, and then just not cleaned my entire order, and not bothered to call me. When I go to pick up the order he rudely tells me the problem and then says he will start the order, so each time the order was over a week late getting done. This last time I left a coat for tailoring - I had a lining replaced, and it came back missing to buttons - on the pockets. I took it back and he told me they were missing when I brought it in. I told him I knew for a fact this was untrue, and he rolled his eyes and told me he would investigate, and that I should come back a week later. I told him that I no longer trusted him with my coat, and in order for me to leave it with him, I would like some kind of a refund on the work, and that I would pay for the order when I returned to pick up the repaired coat. He refused. At this point I asked if he could at least check in the back for the buttons. He told me that he was too busy (the store was empty), but then walked back for a minute and came back up and said that the tailor told him the buttons were missing, but that I could leave the coat, and he would ask the other tailor. I again asked for some sort of refund, and he shouted at me that he had done the work, and he would not pay for a button. At this point I walked out, and will not be walking back in, ever. If you care at all about your clothes, don't go to Abraham's. read more

I would prefer to give no stars but that is not an option. This is the second time I have brought my husband's clothes to Abraham for repair. A small hole in his suit jacket needed to be rewoven. I dropped the suit off on September 3. I was told it would take five weeks. Paid $120 cash for a 1/4" hole repair. Expensive but previous work had been outstanding so I didn't complain. It was a $1500 suit. One month later, on October 6, I called to find out about the suit. I was told "not ready yet. In about two weeks it will be ready. I will call you. Don't call me." Called on November 3, two months after the suit was dropped off. The suit was not ready. Abraham promised it would be ready on Friday, November 7. Called today. The suit is not ready. I decided to go to the shop and retrieve the suit. Surprise! Abraham tells me he sent the suit to Los Angeles to get repaired. So I can't get my husband's suit. At this time, I am contemplating action to be compensated for the suit, the time without the suit and all the crap my husband and I have had to deal with because of this abysmal business practice. read more
