UnfortunatelyI have had only negative experiences here. They have effectively ruined (because you cannot add length to pants once the fabric is cut) three pairs of pants. When I took them in to complain they placed the blame on me, asking if I tried the pants on in store (I did). I have used Salim and his family for over 15 years. While they can sometimes be a bit brusk, they are never, ever rude. They have alwasy accommodated me if I needed a rush order. Their quality of work has always kept me coming back (and I drive all the way from Beaverton to ujse them). This place had a good reputation, and I saw two customers with more involved alterations getting a lot of attention and kindness. However, I was rushed and spoken to coldly. I was also chided for wanting to pay with a debit card instead of cash. This all should have been a warning, but these were work garments and I was pleased to be getting them done so quickly. I trusted the GOOD reviews here. I should not have done so. A week later, I got my items back. They have been BUTCHERED by these "professionals." The tank was taken in all over despite my express instructions that only the bust needed to be made smaller. They did not listen to me at all. It is now unwearable. The skirt was hemmed crookedly and looks like a kindergartner did it. A store which cannot give the same attention and kindness to smaller jobs and newer customers should turn those jobs away rather than WASTE a customer's money and render NEW clothes unwearable. If there is confusion as to how a job should be done or whether it is even doable, it is on the SHOP to clarify with the customer before they RUIN new garments. We come to you because we are not professionals and trust you to know what's right. You have ABUSED my trust and I am disgusted. If you are new to using this business, at the very least pay with a credit card no matter what they say they prefer, so at least you can dispute the charge later after they hose you. I found Alteration Station using Yelp search. I have two coats that needed repair and are both 10+ years old and well loved. I called and was urged to come by with my two coats. I brought in a wool peacoat and a nylon blend jacket. Alteration station was able to install new buttons and fix loose buttons on my peacoat. The more extensive repair was my nylon blend jacket. The shop carefully matched the olive green and added elbow patches where it was wearing through, repaired 4 frayed or separated seams. Both jackets look and feel great. I am so grateful to have them both back in rotation and repaired. Repairs were high quality, pricing reasonable for quality of work. It was about a 2-3 week turnaround due to complexity of repair. I took six suits in for tailoring. Thanks to MW having clearance sales I decided to upgrade my closet. I've been working out during COVID and my old suits didn't fit at all. I purchased everything based on my own measurements. I was off on the sizes. I took six suits in to have the pants altered and while there she noticed the jackets were not sitting right. She measured and explained how the sleeve length was wrong on one suit and the back was off on another. She took three jackets in at the waistline to give a more defined look and to fit better. I also dropped off a dress that needed a new zipper. All work was completed in a week and for around $300. I was very happy with the service and the price. read more

I have one of those coats- much loved, not easily replaced with the lining in shreds. Bad enough that I cringed a bit when it was handed off to be hung up before being seated at a nice restaurant- you know when restaurants were a thing. And sure I could, in theory replace the lining, I have replaced lining and I hate doing it. And I decided that it would be too expense so I continued to wear it and tried to remember not to use the pockets. But these very nice clever folks took care of it in less than a week for $150.00 and they did a great job. So, a really nice much loved coat back in action for a great price and all I need to do was hand them a credit card- love this place. read more

I just moved to Portland and needed alterations quickly. They are kind, consistent and affordable. Plus they are very nice.

Had several expensive dresses that needed to be taken in substantially at the waist and shoulders for a better fit and appearance. For my basic hems and simple alterations, I go to a different seamstress who charges about half the price, but since these dresses are high end, I wanted to make sure to hire a very experienced seamstress who pays attention to how the finished article of clothing will lay, someone who is more of a perfectionist. The women seamstress here has been sewing and doing alterations for years, simple hems and complicated fittings on bridal dresses, and everything in between. Each dress cost between $30-40 a piece, which is high compared to my two other seamstresses. All but one of the dresses came out really nice, seams were straight and where material was taken in, it was invisible. However, with the one dress, the sides were not symmetrical and one seam actually bunches up. To fix would require her to take it in more and I don't want to take a chance of it becoming even more lopsided. This isn't a deal breaker, meaning, I have gone back when I have something complicated and requires a more complex solution than a straight hem. Tip - her preference is always to keep the item looser than I am requesting so I have to be very firm about how much I want her to take the item in. read more

Alteration Station saved the day! Two dresses for my wedding day needed urgent fixing, both with complicated issues- one a standard, lacy American dress, and the other a silk Korean hanbok. They made both dresses wearable and so much more beautiful, in an amazingly short time. They were responsive, thoughtful and understanding. The price was very reasonable, especially given our several requests and time constraints. They are clearly experts in tough tailoring issues, including for especially tough items like wedding dresses. I will only use them going forward. I took my leather jacket into there shop after I was quoted 100$ over the phone to have all three pieces of my jacket repaired when I got there they wanted to charge me 125$for the job I didn't have enough to buy told them that I was going to bring it back the following week and then have them do the last piece of the zipper gave them the 100$ for them to do the first part of the repair and they put the zipper in backwards and they would not repair there mistake but instead said they would remove the zipper they had put in and refund my cash or I could pay them an additional 100$ for them to fix there mistake that's some crap now my jacket has been turned into a females jacket and the really messed up thing is that it did belong to my very best friend of 25years and he had died 8 months earlier I found j myself dead in his house it's very sentimental to me and I will not be able to get it done again because I'm disabled and can't afford it that's some crap I will never use there shop again read more

I saw a few reviewers that had some pretty bad experiences here, but decided to give it a whirl since they were so close to my house and only had to hem unlined work pants. I figured it was a simple wnough alteration and would be hard to mess up. Yes the person was frosty that was there to help, but I that was not a surprise as it was mentioned in many reviews. She pinned my pants while wearing the shoes I would wear with them and they were perfect. I picked them up and tried them on when I got home and they were way too long. They were dragging on the ground and at least 1.5" longer than when she pinned them in the shop. What a waste of money and don't want to bother going back and risk my even nicer pants getting messed up. Looking for another tailor now. read more

I don't understand how the overall rating of this place is so good. I had multiple issues... Let me caveat this entire thing by saying my alteration was SO SIMPLE. All I needed was to have a dress with a straight edge shortened a few inches and then to have the existing slits on the dress closed a little to help with modesty for a wedding. Firstly, I was charged almost $40 for the ask I mentioned above! I'm sorry but as someone coming from NYC I could have had these two simple things done at better quality for less cost in Manhattan! Secondly, the shop owner (or whoever she is) was rude as hell to me. Barely made eye contact, never smiled, was super short with me, etc. Like I'm sorry but if you own a shop or if you work in one customer service is what you've signed up for. I don't care if you're having a bad day, check yourself at the door before you start working. Thirdly...the two slits on the front of the dress (which she literally pulled and stitched together on the inside of the dress, no altering needed) were UNEVEN! No joke...one was higher than the other! Wtf! How do you even do this if you mark something, are actually decent at your job, and are over-charging?!! I showed up to this wedding completely embarrassed that my dress ended up looking like something a 14 yr old with no experience had made. Yes, it's partly my fault for not retrying on the dress when it was ready in the shop, BUT I should not have had to do that for the simple adjustments I was asking for. One would assume it would have just been done right. It's for these reasons that I will NEVER go back. And sure maybe some people had a good experience but in my opinion no matter what the other experiences are if someone cannot HEM AND PULL TOGETHER A SEAM then they should not be in the alteration business. read more

I haven't written a review in a while, because I think Yelp can be unfair. I actually just deleted a bunch of reviews I've written good or bad, but I just used it to find a tailor to use, so I thought I would share my experience for those looking too. I originally went to DZ alteration, but they kept pushing back the promise date, so I decided to just pick up my dress and take it elsewhere. I chose alteration station because it was on the east side, meaning it's closer to me and parking isn't a pain. I took in two pieces, a dress and a pair of pants. Both ~$200 pieces each. So, you can see I wanted to make sure each dress was altered well. The dress is my favorite, it's a rayon Christy Dawn dress. I got both hemmed and the bodice shortened on the dress. The pants turned out almost perfect. The right leg is a tiny bit longer. The dress, on the other hand, looks like someone who isn't very experienced sewed it. I first noticed the thread they use does not match the original thread whatsoever. It was the wrong white, and stuck out like a sore thumb. Then I noticed how crooked their lines were. So, so crooked. I feel like I could have done a better job. I'm curious if two different people worked on my order. The people were really nice and I got my things on time. read more

I rarely write a negative review about anything, but this one deserves a one-star review. Perhaps others won't have to have a bad experience at Alteration Station. I brought an expensive Icebreaker cardigan into​ Alteration Station to have elbow patches put in place to address a hole that was developing on one elbow. I supplied the elbow patches. I asked for a fitting, but the consistently rude and dismissive woman who waited on m​​e declined to have me try on the sweater to determine the best placement of the elbow patches. When I returned an elbow patch covered the hole, yes, but was not well placed for my elbow -- there was plenty of positioning flexibility to cover the hole and actually work as an elbow patch at the same time. Worse, the elbow patch on the other sleeve was sewn on the side of the arm facing front rather than on the back of the sleeve. In other words, it was on the inside of my elbow. Oooops! No comment from the salesperson. She hustled to the back to rip off the misplaced patch, sewed it in some approximation of where one's elbow might be, and presented it to me ... while now beginning a fitting for another customer. So I ended up with two inconsistently placed elbow patches that aren't in the right place for my elbows, and a damaged sleeve from where she removed the misplaced patch. There are now holes and fraying areas in an oval on the front of the now-damaged sleeve. I had already paid, but I expressed my dissatisfaction ... but was met with a dismissive and insincere "sorry" and a turned back (let's move along). No refund much less compensation for damaging the sweater was offered. I was ignored as she worked with the next customer. I'd steer clear of Alteration Station. read more

I have a job that requires a uniform. The pant legs were so large an elephant could wear them! I brought them into the Alteration Station expecting a couple of days' turn around. They had them done in 2 hours! The pants look much better with tapered legs and a proper hem. It wasn't cheap - $80 for two pair of pants, but the work was exceptional and I know I certainly couldn't do it in 2 hours! I will bring any and all of my future alterations to the Alteration Station. read more

My jeans were hemmed PERFECTLY! I have never had pants fit me so well! I wore these pants yesterday and there were puddles on the ground, and the bottom of my pants did not get wet at all! I even walked through a puddle! You shorter friends know what I'm talking about when the bottom of your pants get wet. Not the case today! I actually found this place by mistake because I was going to go to the L1 Alteration Station, but there was no parking. After looping the block twice, I said forget it, and came here. The man and woman here were so kind, and helped me right away. I dropped off my pants in the afternoon on 12/19/17, and was able to pick them up on the 12/23/17. I paid in advance, all of the information was written on the receipt, and everything went smoothly. She even let me know ahead of time that if I couldn't come in on Saturday the 23rd, then I'd have to come back January 3rd, because she would be on vacation. Wonderful people! I will come here again! I have taken several items into this business over the years because I received satisfactory service from the tailor. I've been a customer of the Alteration Station since they were located in Lloyd Center mall. The owners & staff have worked their magic to tailor my son's suits, alter dresses, shorten pants and repair our favorite garments. They've saved us again and again and keep us (and our clothes) looking their best. We've since moved to SW Portland but I continue making the trek to the eastside; they're that good! And, news flash: they're a small, family-run business and they're OPEN for business during the pandemic. read more

Surprised that this alterations shop hasn't been reviewed more. I've been going here for at least 10 years and they have rescued and improved garments more times than I care to count. About a year ago, I realized that it is more cost effective to get my pants taken in, fixed, and tailored rather than going out and buying new pants. This place has served me well over the past year. I have come here for all my alterations, from pants and dresses, to everyday garb and coats (likely around 20-30 items at this point) - and I could not be happier. It feels wonderful to have clothing that fits perfectly. My coworkers compliment my clothing more and often think that I got something new. The service is great and the price is fair. DON'T THROW AWAY THOSE BIKE JERSEYS WITH BROKEN ZIPPERS. Brought in a couple of favorite bike jerseys with broken zippers (a common problem). On my first visit, the helpful person at the front desk said they did not have matching zippers in stock but if I could get the zippers, they could put them in for me. I found the perfect YKK brand zippers on-line at zipperstop.com (custom length zippers in 3 days-- who knew), and returned to the store. I had my jerseys back 2 days later looking like new. In bike crazy Portland, this place is a find. $28 each beat the on-line repair shops that wanted $80 each. Highly recommended!! read more
