My husband and I were in Brockville and wanted to grab some lunch. Truth be told, be initially went to another cafe but were told they were not serving lunch that day. I was disappointed by that, but because of that we discovered Tait's and are we ever glad that we did! We both got the Tait's Daily Deal, which was $7.95 for a half sandwich, soup and dessert. What a deal indeed. For the sandwich you can have either egg salad or ham (it was not specified but it was cooked ham and not smoked ham), your choice of one of the daily soups (small size), which that day was cream of tomato bacon, or harvest turkey and ham, and your choice of dessert that day, which was coconut cream pie, chocolate pie, or lemon meringue pie. Both my husband and I got the ham sandwich (I got mine on gluten-free bread - I try to eat a gluten-reduced diet, but I can tolerate and do eat gluten. My husband got his on the cheese bread). He got the Cream of Tomato and Bacon soup, and I got the Harvest Turkey and Ham soup. He got the Coconut Cream pie and I got the Lemon Meringue pie. Everything was delicious! I love how you can get so many toppings in your sandwich and the toppings are free. I got lettuce, spinach, tomatoes, cucumbers, green peppers and cheddar cheese. There is also no extra charge for gluten-free bread. Since it's a half sandwich you get, they usually take one slice of bread and cut it in half, but the lady said since the gluten-free bread is so small and I was getting the pieces near the end of the loaf, she gave me two slices of bread, otherwise my sandwich would be miniscule, lol. I really appreciated that (as this little girl, actually has a big appetite, haha). Like I mentioned earlier, the ham was cooked ham, and while I much prefer smoked ham, for the price I can't complain too much. The gluten-free bread was delicious, very soft and not crumbly nor dry. My soup was hearty and not too salty, which is usually my complaint with soups. The pies were also delicious. The crust was not overly thick, which is a complaint I usually have with pies. I appreciated the gesture of placing a toothpick in my pie before wrapping it in plastic wrap to prevent the meringue from sticking to the plastic. As you can see from my photo, this action was only partially successful, lol, but that's ok, it still tasted great, and in these times, we are all just trying to do the best with what we have. The staff were really friendly and courteous. We visited during the Covid-19 Pandemic, so staff were wearing masks (mandatory order, masks in all public indoor spaces, so all customers were in masks as well). However, they were not wearing gloves, which I wasn't too crazy about, but they did wash their hands (I would have preferred washed hands PLUS donning of new gloves). Our meals were such a great deal and we were even able to snag one of the tables at the front of the bakery to enjoy our food outdoors (since it was during Stage 2 of restaurant re-openings during the Covid Pandemic so indoor dining was forbidden, but outdoor dining was permitted). The bakery/cafe is on the main drag in Brockville. Street parking only, but parking is free and plentiful in Brockville, even downtown Brockville (yeah, I love small towns for this reason, lol, so different from my hometown of Toronto, haha). Tait's will be our go-to place for lunch from now on when we're in Brockville :) read more

We stopped at Tait's for lunch, on the way home from Brockville. Initially, we came in for the bakery, but then we discovered the kitchen in the back half of the store was offering lunch. Maybe not 100% of their usual daily fare was on the menu, only lacking on this day because of COVID restrictions. The restaurant does indeed comply with Provincial Regulations, only allowing a certain number of people into the restaurant at a time, and everyone coming in and working in the place was wearing a mask. At the bakery, we asked about a few tempting items, but as we wanted something more substantial than sweet goods, we were guided to the back half of the space where we found a full functioning restaurant; we both knew we'd end up back at the bakery afterwards! Surely there would have been tables and chairs to sit at, if only we weren't in a lockdown. Hubby asked what the specials were, and we were told chicken noodle soup or cream of asparagus soup. He would have ordered the chicken soup, but we asked what was under "door number 3", and he was sold! It was chili, though not on special that day. I ordered a salami sandwich with lettuce, pickle, and mustard, on pumpernickle bread. Everything was tasty enough, as well as affordable. Apparently this place has the best coffee in town, but we had just ordered previously at an other coffee shop. Taking note of this for next time! Back at the bakery section, we purchased a delicious apple cake, day old apple fritters, half a dozen raspberry or date flavoured oatmeal turnovers, and a loaf of multigrain bread. The bread is great and if you're an early riser you can purchase some of the delicious other fresh baked goods like a Danish. It would be great if they had a stash of the delicious fresh baked items put aside to sell in the latter part of the day. This is a great established with a long history in Brockville. One of the first places I stop by when I come home. Love sitting at one of the outdoor tables with my coffee and pastry. When I was a kid this is where we always got our holiday sausage rolls. The place reminds me of my childhood. read more

When I am too lazy to bake my own breads I like to get some from here and am never disappointed. We also pick up their other treats for the occasional work meeting and have enjoyed them all as well. I have not eaten in, but that atmosphere is very welcoming and I think I'd happily sit there with tea, a sandwich, and my journal to write a couple songs! read more

Great little place for breakfast or lunch!! Definitely a must if you are in the area. I tried the smoked meat sandwich and a freshly made cafe mocha which I enjoyed a lot. The staff here are amazing and super friendly!! A unexpected treat was a free cookie for my youngest that came with a big smile from the lady!!. It's also a bakery with fresh baked goods. Parking is street parking which if I understood the sign right, is free for the first 2 hours. Give Tait's a consideration if you're in Brockville and near the waterfront. read more

Great place for lunch. I love their subs, all made to order on their fresh sub buns at the deli counter. They're reasonably priced, delicious, fresh and huge! My mother and I can split one with a drink each for less than 15$ for the two of us and be completely full. The staff has always been great and they also have a great selection of pastries and desserts. read more

The food's not bad (my family had brought me some prior to my visit), but the service is why I'm giving such a low rating. I am legitimately exempt from wearing a mask, and I was being polite about it. I kept my distance and my hands to myself, and actually I wasn't even speaking at all, as I was with my father and he was ordering. Or, rather, trying to order. Instead of a calm "excuse me, if you can't wear a mask, we'd be happy to bring your food to you outside" or whatever, the employee goes completely 0 to 60 and starts yelling at us. We said I was exempt and the girl shouted that if I'm "so sick, [I] should stay home." Well, I'm not sick, I'm disabled (it is certainly not contagious) and frankly, her presumptuous, aggressive attitude is the worst customer service I've ever had. Obviously we left, but not before they'd called the police on us. Anyway, Tait's is a good place to come for some lemon meringue pie and ableism, I guess. read more

We live on the other side of the river and boat over for breakfast. We love this place, and have been coming there for years. If you are traveling by boat and stop in Brockville it's a short two block walk. They bake several different breads that they sell and you can get sandwiches as well as donuts and breakfast. read more

If your are concerned with food safety and you personal health, do not shop here. No gloves, dirt everywhere. Cross contamination of foods and the list goes on. After the server crashed out another patron cut pie for another without washing their hands. The dirty dishes cart was filthy , looks like it has never been washed. One server handed baked goods to a customer with bare hands. How public health allows this is a real mystery. Don't waste your time or money for the opportunity to get food poisoning. read more

An employee made a huge mistake with my order. I ordered sandwiches for my daughter's shower, when I asked for the crusts to be cut off IF and only IF it would NOT cost more Tait's went ahead and cut off the crusts causing the price to increase +$75! Jay, the owner, would not refund my money because in his words: We had received the correct order. I told him I said NOT to change the order if it would cost more. He as much as said I hadn't said that! Well I can assure you I will never deal with Tait's again. I would never recommend them to anyone. They are dishonest and just want to make as much money as possible at a customers expense. These new owners have sure run the reputation of Tait's into the ground. read more
