I've been coming to this restaurant since I was a kid. The food has been consistently good all of this time which says a lot. Taiwan has a flavor that I've not been able to find at any other establishment so it's one of my top 5 comfort foods. I usually lean towards the happy family, chicken and shrimp and shrimp rolls and they never disappoint. I don't dine in very often anymore but the interior could use a little TLC or minor renovations. Other than that this place is a hidden gem. read more

Loved that it's not a buffet like most typical Filipino restaurants you find here in Texas. I came in a little early so I ordered the tocino with fried rice. I was so glad it was made just like back home and it was good! Big portions for only $10.95! Ask for some sawsawan- yum! I also ordered lumpia. 6 pieces for $2.95 sooo good! I used to defend this restaurant from people claiming the service was bad or that they found roaches in their food. It never happened to me and I just couldn't see that happening here. This all changed the other day when I went to pick up takeout to bring back to work. I am a registered nurse, I don't have much time on my lunch but being that I had a medical appointment prior to going to work that day, I decided to get lunch from here bc i was fasting earlier in the day. I called ahead that way it would be ready when I got there. When I arrived, my order was sitting with the cashier. I told the cashier I was there to pick it up, to which he replied "give me a moment". He wasn't doing anything but proceeded to bring menus to like six tables, pick up dirty dishes and greet other customers. All the while two waiters are just standing against the wall chitchatting when they should be doing what the cashier is doing. Covid is going on, cashier should not be handling money and menus and having direct customer interaction except when checking out. Germs spread that way. Additionally, having done this, he had me waiting at the front for over five minutes with a growing line. I was tempted to grab my plate and go. When he got back, I mentioned that the waiters should be doing what he just did instead of him, he needs to wash his hands, and that he shouldn't keep customers waiting so long with takeout as most are on a short lunch break and don't have that much time. He mumbled something back, i couldn't really hear it and just ignored what i said. I took my food and left, drove back to work. I started eating my sesame chicken and after about halfway through, I noticed a HUGE ROACH in my food! It was cooked with it. Gross. I called the restaurant, they offered to refund, but that was it. I understand there isn't much that can be done (in that situation) but this happens here TOO often. This restaurant needs to be gutted and thoroughly cleaned and renovated to prevent the roach infestation that occurs here. I hear of too many incidents with people having roaches in their food at this restaurant. It's disgusting, unsanitary, and the health department needs to shut this place down. I felt queasy the rest of the day, and because of that I recommend you do not eat here unless you enjoy insects in your food. read more

I remember first going to Taiwan in 2010. The food was delicious and the staff was super friendly and attentive. I went today, and it was sad to see a change in ambiance. Food was good but not like before. We had sizzling rice soup and it didn't have the vibrant vegetables as it used to. It was mainly broth. We had dinner here earlier this week. I think it was Wednesday around 7:45ish. We were seated immediately and had our drink orders taken. My husband and I both ordered off of the dinner (I think) section. Basically combos. I got the half lemon chicken/half garlic sauce chicken with wonton soup and fried rice. The lemon chicken was sweet and sour chicken but with lemon sauce instead of sweet and sour sauce. The garlic sauce chicken was good but tasted to many other chicken dishes from Chinese food restaurants. The "fried" rice appeared to be and tasted like brown rice. The wonton soup had a chemically smell to it, which was awesome to experience. The egg roll was awesome! My husband got the beef and cauliflower. I tried a bite and thought it was good. The restaurant itself is dated and dark. Our waitress was very friendly though. In total (before tip) we spent $27 and some change, which is way more than I feel like it should have been. The meal stayed with us when we got home and experienced stomach issues. So that's cool. read more

When you sit down on the chairs wrapped in plastic - like a 1960's grandmothers place - you will notice a sticky coat of grease on the tables....at least nothing will slide off the tables When I walked in, there were 2 tables ordering, and 1 table eating. I ordered the house special kung pal (3 kinds of protein). Waited over 40 minutes to get the entree - only comments from the waitress "they thought your order was one of the togo orders, so they rushed that through" and "They are rushing on your food, it should be out any second" (only ten more minutes) When it came out, " be careful, it's very hot". Not even close! The mushrooms and squash weren't even warm, they didn't see the wok for more than a couple of seconds. I mentioned the problem to the waitress when she finally made an appearance in the dining room again. A few hems and haws, a few started apologies, only to have "I will tell the kitchen about it so they take care of it next time" Go up front to pay, host says "everything OK?", I tell him of the problems...."sorry to hear about that, it will be 19.38" You really don't care anything about customer service, you run 40 minute ticket times with an empty restaurant, and you can't even warm veggies.........go ahead and close, let someone who cares try read more

One of my fav spots to get take out from when Im in CC. This is my absolute favorite place to get hunan beef (or chicken...or both, ha). The vegetables are always super fresh and the meat and sauce is always really tasty. Decent portion, especially if you like to mix your white rice in. That being said, this is only thing I get from this restaurant. I know what I like! So if your going to get something, definitely give the hunan a try. I never eat there, always pick up. I do remember I had taken my mom to dinner there a while back, she didnt like her dish at all (why I stick to what I know), she had only taken one bite and when she asked the manager to change it out (at that time an older woman), the manager was basically just like "sorry no exchange." From the outside the place didn't seem attractive . We traveled from San Antonio and booked a party of 40. The service was A++ they made sure everything was up to our expectations they had 4 servers attending our guest at all times which made the experience perfect. We never had to wait for drinks to get full, or food to be brought in timely manner when requested. We absolutely were shocked on how well we were taken care of. Well, after reading previous reviews, I'm surprised that I still went ahead and tried it out. My husband was craving panicit, (filipino noodle dish) so of course I used Yelp to find a filipino restaurant. When I checked out the menu at Taiwan Restaurant, they had filipino dishes listed and I was in the same parking lot, so I decided to give it a try. Now mind you, if you see a review that has the word "cockroach" in it, you would say, "heck no!" real quick. I always look at the date of reviews and the most recent ones were good so I said I'd give them the benefit of the doubt. I walk in behind a gentleman who was dining in. The guy at the counter said he would be right with me and continued to seat the gentleman. THEN, he didn't come back to me. Luckily, another guy came and asked what I needed. I ordered the pancit and asked if they still have lechon kawali, (fried pork belly) and he said yes so I asked for an order of that as well. He took my name and number and said it would take 25mins, so I went to wait in my car. 30mins, no call. I went inside and the same guy said he was going to check on the order. Another guy came behind the counter and proceeded to ask if I'd been helped. I said yes and that the first guy went to check on my order and he asked what my order was. I told him and then he looked at my ticket which had the pancit written down but not the lechon kawali. Then the first guy came back and told the guy that something happened in the kitchen, something burned. He said it in english. The first guy must've said it too low because the 2nd guy asked again if the pancit was ready and the first guy repeated what he said earlier, except in filipino. (I'm half filipino and understand a little bit) So the 2nd guy said, "sorry you waited for nothing." It would've been a good time to ask for a discount, but with this pandemic, everyone is hurting. So I went back to wait in the car for about 20 minutes. Other than the mix-up, my husband liked the pancit, no cockroaches, freshly cooked, and I had calamansi, (filipino lemon?) so all's well that ends well. RATS, RATS everywhere. So embarrassing! I used to enjoy going here before change of ownership because it was clean and ran smoothly. Now it is basically a Filipino restaurant disguised as a Chinese. I have no problem with Filipino food, I enjoy it. What i did not enjoy was having one dish at a time presented during lunch break with a co-worker. It took over an hour to get the three entrees that we ordered to share. My friend ended up having to order basic egg drop soup because she was so hungry waiting on order. All the while the older Filipino lady/waitress/hostess?? spoke to us like she was doing US as favor. Laughable. All of those things aside, my major concern was the absolute cluttered and pure filth of this place makes my skin crawl. The yellow or yellowed curtains are so dusty that I was having a hard time breathing. they looked like something picked up from the dollar tree. The salt/pepper shakers and bottled condiments were so sticky that I knew they do not practice washing/disinfecting them daily. The walls are filthy. There are stacked boxes all along the walls, not neatly stacked but cluttered and things falling out as if they just don't care or don't know better. The door to kitchen is so full of grime I was pretending not to notice because I was feeling ashamed for suggesting the place so when a rat flat out ran between boxes in the back corner near the kitchen, I was mortified but I didn't mention it. I just wanted to get out. The only thing we had was soup lechon, and some cheap steamed rice. I payed the bill and took the entrees we didn't have time to eat and tossed in the dumpster outside my office. Needless to say I will NOT be returning or recommending this place to anyone again! Traumatic experience. CLUTTER ATTRACTS RODENTS AND BUGS- Typically people in restaurant service understand this and run their business accordingly. Interesting there was a roach found in someone's food because a year ago while visiting the coast we stopped here on our way to eat, we too had a bug in our soup. I THINK a fly but couldn't be sure. Waitress offered another cup LOL as if I'd want a ladle of the same ick that was just given to me. Manager didn't say a word. Then when bill came. Irving was comped. Not even the cost of the soup. Waitress was super inattentive because well I assume she figured we wouldn't tip. I don't live anywhere near here but travel the gulf coast a lot.
