Tried food for the first time today and have to say it was delicious !! Butter chicken with rice, Samosas, regular naan and garlic naan ! I love spice but it doesn't love me so I ordered the butter chicken mild plus and it was perfect ! (Mild is zero spice the woman taking the order told me) . The bread was so warm and fluffy and big !! The samosas were GOOD just not great for me because they were spicy but my husband liked them (spice doesn't bother him) ! We used to eat at this restaurant while we were in nursing school a lot. We moved, and then moved back to the area so we decided to try it again after inching back out into the world since the pandemic hit. We ordered carry out today - Butter Chicken, Lamb Biryani, and 2 orders of Garlic Naan. Wowza....the food was delicious! 1. The butter chicken was PURE HEAVEN and we devoured it fighting for who would get the last bites. We truly wished we placed two orders of this so we had lunch for tomorrow! Hands down an A+++ rating! 2. Lamb Biryani had nice size chunks of super tender lamb! We both are more savory profile people, so the flavor profile was a little sweet, but still a 10/10 (A rating). 3. Garlic Naan was the perfect amount of garlic to complement both meals. Driving past the place you wouldn't think much of the place especially since the lot appears pretty scarce. To the naked eye probably make you second guess the place and you would just keep driving on... DO NOT DRIVE AWAY!!! Compared to most Indian Cuisine restaurants in Michigan this one is one of my favorites. Starting off with some nice warm and crispy samaosas is always a solid move. Fried to perfection, not greasy in any way and the vegetables inside are warm and delicious. Dip it with the green sauce for a little zing and your already off to a great start to a good evening! To my Spicy food lovers anything Vindaloo is the dish for you and the Lamb Vindaloo will change your life. Definitely makes the aftermath worth it if you're picking up what I'm throwing down. This place used to be my goto place for biriyani when it was called "Tawa". Now with the name change, the chef changed and the food changed and it's not authentic. They do have lunch buffet. Decent options better than other places but lacking vegetarian options. So we end up ordering from the menu. I ordered different items each.. they are not prepared well at all. Veg biriyani- please frozen vegetables with corn in a biriyani?? Really?? It was sweet to taste and horrible. Nan and gobi curry- Nan was good, cooked perfectly. I've never dined in so bear that in mind, but I've gotten takeaway from here twice now and my conclusion is pretty straightforward. My food was delicious. Both times it has come exactly as ordered and exactly within the projected amount of time they told me on the phone. The flavors were excellent, both with the Tarka Dal and the Baigan Bharta. Prices are comparable to Indian you'd find in the Ann Arbor area so there's nothing really to knock. If I could say anything negative, it would be my usual complaint about Indian food. See, I LOVE spicy food. I have an obsession, and I'm really quite good at consuming spicy food. It's very stimulating. But, because I have a tolerance, when I ask for my food "extra spicy" it never ACTUALLY tastes spicy to me. This is no exception. Ive been wanting to try this restaurant with my parents for some time now! When we arrived unfortunately we were greeted by the front of the building covered in pigeon poop.... just for that we almost didn't get out of the vehicle and go inside.. especially my mother almost entirely refused to go inside! It was not an appetising sight... if not for that a solid 4 stars for sure!!! It was my parents first indian food experience. The food however was a 4. Maybe 3 & 1/2. The dishes traditionally come with bread or rice most dishes seem to be meat or vegi with sause. My parents both ordered shrimp which came with rice sauce and shrimp. Not entirely alot of variety but the rice and naan bread made it filling. The portions aren't big. Rather smaller so if you are starving id say you may consider two dishes or sharing among the group. I got quite the assortment of okra so i was pleased with my dish. We all seemed to enjoy it. This is the only local indian food place around. Unfortunately we wont be back until the bird faeces is removed. The flavours were definitely there! Maybe we will check back over the summer or over fall. Im nervous for something to drop into my hair and im nervous of the food quality. Ok i was really looking forward to trying this, but it was a bit of a letdown. We got samosas, chicken pakora, and vegetable pakoras. Then we got the chicken curry. Samosas were well fried but the filling really lacked flavor. The chicken pakora was actually pretty good! Vegetable pakora needed more flavor too. Then the chicken curry came and i took the first bite and instantly felt a bitterness. It not only lacked flavor but was actually somewhat bitter. Even my friend said it was plain nothing that special. And trust me I'm well acquainted with the Indian cuisine and make many of the curries at home, this is not the right flavor. However the stars are because we had great service as well as a clean nice place with lots of space. Anyways, here it goes: I am sure that this place is now under a NEW MANAGEMENT (you can figure it out for any restaurant if you are a frequent visitor, trust me on this one). This place serves BUFFET for about close to $11, with great varieties of VEG/NON VEG stuffs including salads and desserts. And as far as the DINING-IN options goes: Again they have a plethora of VEG/NON VEG items such as Paratha, Butter Chicken, Veg/Chicken Biryani, several options in dry curries Okra, Eggplant, Paneer etc.. I've been eating here for years and pretty much always order the same thing - the vegetable biryani, the aloo tikki (crisp potato patties served with chana masala, which is basically chickpeas in a spicy curry) & the gajar halwa - my favorite Indian dessert. If you've never tried it, I highly recommend you do. It's grated carrots made into a thick pudding of sorts - it is sweet and seasoned with lots of cardamom and topped with slivered almonds here but some places top it with cashews. The only thing that wasn't that great is the Naan (bread). It was very thin, more than I'm used to having, and a little bit dry. It was okay, but I've had better. The price and portions are great, however the flavor of the dishes tasted like they were missing the depth that I normally get when ordering at other restaurants. The one waitress we've had, has always been very attentive. You feel like the service is personalized. We've only eaten here at dinner and it's good. Everything is cooked perfectly, chicken is moist and tender, sauces are flavorful. I don't get quite the array/complex spice palette I expect when I have Indian food though. We had the butter chicken and got it medium spice and it was awesome. The spice was perfect and we got the white rice to go with it. The chicken was nice and tender and very flavorful. We also got another dish to share and it was the lamb biryani and we got that medium spice also. The lamb was very good but the medium spice was a little too spicy for our liking. Been here many times with the family, and everyone loves it. There's nothing they serve that we don't like. There are a few things we don't care for particularly, but everything tastes fresh and made skillfully. Four stars not five because, well, it's not quite "as good as it gets", but we'll keep going back for sure. The TVs are often too loud. I love this little hole in the wall. It's delicious and consistent. Craving authentic, spicy, fresh made Punjab food and don't want to drive to Canton or a2? This is the spot! I like to grab a carryout of hot butter paneer or paneer kadahi for dinner. I get it with a side of garlic naan and make my own basmati (you get to pick basmati or naan).. but you can also order extra sides and it's really reasonable compared to the other side of I275. They do have a buffet and it's good, but I'm partial to ordering fresh and getting exactly the way I like it. If you're a vegetarian, they will make a paneer version of any of the lamb or chicken dishes, but they also have all the classic Dal and Channa dishes. Rumor has it the chicken isn't particularly moist (I don't eat meat), but I personally would expect and desire that from tandoor oven cooking. Dining in is nothing special since the restaurant itself has no atmosphere and is cold in the winter by the big windows. I feels like it used to be a Ponderosa or something. The service, however, is great. Jessica is a saint and seems to singlehandedly run the front of the house. This place has seriously turned crap. I used to be a regular when this place was called Tawaa. The lunch buffet selection was pretty good and a great deal for the money. Since then, the food quality took major a nose dive. The buffet selection is a far cry from what was once offered. The sauces, such as that for the curry chicken, have been cheap-o stretched by adding so much water, there's no flavor left. And the chicken pieces are mostly bones with scant meat which makes the tray look like a bunch of chickens died in Flint tap water. You want be cheap with your customers? Fine. We go there for both buffet and off-the-menu meals. Off-the-menu is far better; but of course for a good deal, buffet is totally reasonable. Some of the buffet choices don't do well in the heat table; so depending on how fresh the different portions are, they can go from great to "meh." But menu orders are amazing. Great options for spicy and not-so-much; great vegetable and meat options. The servers are very friendly, but there's only one or two so if it's busy, they have to hustle to keep up; some patience from the customer may be needed if so. Good curry; the garlic naan is just out of this world. Lamb dishes (my favorite) are exquisite. I've visited quite a few local Indian/Pak venues; and this one is absolutely my favorite. And they tend to be open fairly late. By the way, I've seen some complaints on other reviews here that the owners don't allow for certain kinds of orders.
