This is a very laid-back place, a little quirky. For example, they turn the place settings upside down on the table... glasses, plates too! Each table has a numbe on it, why? Very limited staff, but our waiter was friendly, and we liked him. The food, however, was very good. Gobi Manchurian, cauliflower in a tangy sauce was just ok. The goat dishes Rogan Josh and Dal Gosht were very good, great flavors. My Chicken Tika Masala was very good. Naan nicely done. On Friday evenings I go to dinner as part of a regular group of 4 ( think Sex and the City bit middle aged gay dudes, with 2 Samanthas but no Charlotte)...all 4 loved the place. 5 star food: chicken korma was among the best I've ever had and I eat that a LOT. I've even learned to make it at home and this ran circles around mine. 5 star service: the server was incredibly sweet and funny. I think 2 others including the owner came by to check on us.. 5 star ambience: inside it's well designed and softly lit with comfortable seating. There's even an instagram-ready red chair by the front door. Outside there's outdoor seating. There's plenty of parking as it's in an open air shopping mall. If you enjoy gourmet Indian food then this is your place. My girlfriend and I went in for the first time on Friday night and we were pleasantly surprised. The ambience is nice the staff friendly and the service excellent. We started with naan, which was very much like pita bread with flavorful stuffing. Nan can be baked with a hard outer shell and served filled with steam. We also ordered the cauliflower appetizer, which was just luscious full of flavor and delicious texture. We then had the chicken tandoori and it was wonderful. The chicken was moist and delicious. Overall, this is a place. I know we will return to for both the ambience and the food. read more

What a gem in Pompano!! I had heard some great things about Taj Darbar as well as read good reviews here on Yelp. We decided to check out this restaurant on a Friday night. It is located in the Pompano Citi Centre, so there is lots of parking available. There are outside tables and plenty of tables and booths inside. The restaurant was decorated very nicely with lots of floral touches. We were greeted very warmly by the staff, and were offered any table that we pleased. The menu is very extensive, and the kind waiter was very nice. He explained some of the dishes on the menu. We stuck with the plant-based dishes that we were familiar with so we could compare it to other Indian restaurants. This place is definitely one of the best in Broward County. You can order the dishes to whatever spice level that you want. We started with samosas, which came with two dipping sauces. They were not too spicy and had a delicious crust. our main dishes came out without much wait. Our eggplant dish was so smooth and seasoned to perfect perfection. The Dahl was perfect with the rice. And the saag paneer was smooth with delectable cubes of cheese. Of course, everything paired well with the warm and tasty naan bread. The co-owner (Ronan or Roman?) came out to introduce himself to us. He wanted to check to make sure we were happy with our dishes. We told him we couldn't wait to return soon, and he recommended some other dishes for us on our next visit. We are going to take him up on that offer soon and let him surprise us with his showcase family dishes. It is so nice to see a great Indian restaurant in this part of Broward County. I have ordered from here before and normally enjoy the food, but this was one of the worst takeout experiences I have had. My order was marked as delivered, but it never arrived. Taj Darbar told me to contact DoorDash, while DoorDash referred me back to the restaurant. Both sides blamed the other instead of taking responsibility or helping resolve the issue. It took a little longer than expected however, once it got to the table, you realized it was handmade and baked! Worth every minute we waited. If you want supreme Indian Cusine with well thought out menus and expertise in regional Indian cooking make this your go to spot. The dining room was clean and well decorated. The servers were well versed in the menu and were able to articulately explain the diferent cooking methods for the different dishes and the service was prompt and precise. My wife and my in laws who are from Russia had a very enjoyable meal here. My Mother in law is not a fan of Indian food. But even she was impressed. Even though my wife and I had been to Taj Darbar four times in the last two months but on our fifth time, we went with our five friends (one of them completely new to Indian food) and as usual the food was on point. To start with we had Papadam and Gobi Manchurian as appetizers. It was followed by Tandoori Mixed Grill which was again on point. For dinner, we had Dal Tadka, Saag Paneer, Malai Kofta, Butter Shrimps, Lamb curry with rice, naan and roti. Again on point. Finally, we had delicious Kulfi and Rasmalai as dessert. The owner gave us a great appetizer recommendation and was very personable. You can tell the owners, kitchen staff and servers care about what they are putting out for their customers. I'm a huge lover of South and West Asian food (shout out to my fellow Iranians!) So, I'm always on the hunt for authentic spots with great portions and pricing. Taj Darbar is one of those spots. Everything here is insanely good. The vindaloo has a lovely acidity to balance out the tomato flavor. The tikka masala has a wonderful balance of spices and rich creaminess. The meat is fresh and tender. The chicken 65 comes with caramelized onions, and that combo is perfection. The samosas are fresh and crispy, served with tasty dipping sauces. The chicken biryani is packed with flavor. When I come here, I have to be careful not to fill myself up on gobl manchurian. It is one of my favorite appetizers they make. [That is massive praise coming from someone who (normally) has an aversion to cauliflower lol.] The staff make Taj Darbar such a welcoming atmosphere. This is a great spot to have dinner with family. The lighting is bright and airy, and the background noise is not too loud and not too quiet. The seating is comfortable. They have booths and tables. It's laid back and perfect for conversation. This is a hidden gem tucked behind Dangerous Minds Brewery in Pompano City Centre and it's a must if you desire some of the best tasting food on the planet. We enjoyed the Samosas Chat, Gobi Manchurian for starters (sorry we ate it so fast I did not get pictures) and then ordered Tandoori Biryani, Chicken Tiki Masala and a Vegetable Dish (forgot the name, my MIL was eating that one). We also had some Poppadum and Butter & Garlic Naan. WOW!!!! The spices, the heat, the way everything was prepared was all top notch. Our server was attentive and respectful. The owner also came by our table a couple of times. We sat outside, but inside looked like it had a nice calming ambiance. Outside was nice during this time of year (early December). Dangerous Minds had a band playing (wasn't loud at all). Taj Darbar doesn't serve alcohol but they do let you grab a beer or glass of wine from Dangerous Minds. Which is nice. Everything people are saying about the helpful and friendly staff is true. Our waiter helped my mother select her meal and guided us regarding spice levels. I'm vegan, so I had the aloo chole and roti. Both were terrific. The sauce was balanced and flavorful. Also, the rice that is served with the vegan dishes is prepared separately so as to be vegan.
