I happened to be in Fort Wayne after MANY years & decided to take advantage of Taj Mahal being close to my appointment. I used Door Dash, so I didn't see the restaurant in person. Using that delivery service made it a little more expensive, but it seemed easier to use than the delivery on the restaurant's website. The restaurant itself had a delivery charge online. Door Dash did not have a delivery fee but had other fees. Would have paid for the convenience either way. Just no way around that. I didn't even think to look at GrubHub until now. My order was prepared quickly & was in my hands in less than 40 minutes from the time I hit enter. Everything was packed well & made it home over an hour away with no leaks. It was all still hot & fresh. I may have overdid it just a little, but I have no good Indian food near me & wanted lots of leftovers. I ordered pappad, naan, tandoori roti which is a sourdough I hadn't tried before, two orders of vegetable pakora, & two orders of vegetable samosas. To my surprise, they also had Punjabi Bhaji, so I got that, too. Asked for medium & it was plenty spicy. Not bland like a lot of places when you ask for that level of spice. It did turn out I had a small box of rice with my entree as well as three chutneys. Since I wasn't sure what would be included, I also ordered an extra order of large rice & a mint chutney. The extra rice does help make the meal stretch. The cup of chutney was a little overpriced at $2.99 but worth having because it is my favorite of the three. The mint & sweet chutneys were as expected. The spicier red chutney with onion was slightly different than what I've had elsewhere but I ate it all. Yum! It wasn't so hot that it was inedible like some restaurants. My only complaint would be that for the amount of pakora & samosas I got, I would have expected a bit more chutney to be included. This was quite a feast. Everything was really delicious! Not quite as good maybe as Shalimar & India Palace in Indy once were but a definite close second. Prices were mostly reasonable. The entree was especially higher than I expected but inflation. It would cost far more to buy the ingredients to make all of this at home, & it wouldn't be as convenient nor as good. If I knew how to make all of this, I wouldn't need a restaurant. It has been far too long since I had Indian food. My only regret is not having more now. I also wish I'd gotten some garlic naan. All in all, I would return if the opportunity arose. I would prefer to dine in next time. I wasn't able to make special requests on DD. You can call the restaurant, but I really was crunched for time. My Dasher, Grace, had heard good things about Taj Mahal and was right. Go check it out. I'm glad I treated myself. I was craving for Indian food and this was close by with good reviews. Before placing the order, I checked with the staff about their speciality. She was like we do everything the BEST. Placed order and waited for an hour. Ordered : Chicken Biriyani Parotta and Butter Chicken Chicken Biriyani tasted like tomato rice with chicken pieces. Parotta was more like thin Chapathi slices and Butter chicken was so sour and high on preservatives. I couldn't eat more than a spoon and just left it. Very unsatisfied and horrible experience. One of the staff checked if we wanted to pack the gravy as we hardly ate, I told her how it tasted. To my surprise she said people love this. I really pity their customers. This is the only Indian restaurant in the Fort Wayne area in my opinion as the other one up North I have never tried nor have the desire based on other reviews. I feel that this restaurant has stepped up the game over the past few years and have improved since the pandemic. We were here over Easter for lunch and was happy to report that they have wonderful service and the food comes out quick. I ordered the Non-Veg Thali (Traditional indian meal served in silver platter with chicken pakora, lamb curry, chicken curry, tandoori chicken, dal, rice, raitha, naan and kheer as dessert) which is a wonderful blend of different food off the menu. The curry was not too spicy unless you request it and everything was cooked perfectly. They give you ample naan and rice for your meal. The lamb also was quite tender and flavorful. Literally everything, from the chutneys to the main entrees. We ordered a couple of different dishes: samosas, vegetable pakoras, aloo tikki, paneer makhni, malai kofta, naan, and rice. My daughter and I have been wanting to try Indian food, so we came here yesterday for lunch. The lady that greeted us was cordial. Pointed at a booth for us to be seated. The atmosphere looked different from some of the old photos I've seen. Didn't have the most authentic Indian feel. Two ladies took care of us. They did a great job keeping drinks refilled. My wife and I enjoy Indian food. On Valentine's Day we decided to open our Yelp app and try something near by. The Taj Mahal turned to be close by but some of the reviews caused us to be concerned. Most of them were written by people who had written one or two reviews. This is a sure sign that perhaps the reviewer might be using the platform to react with angry and trying hurt the establishment. So we jumped in the old jalopy and set off in the frigid weather to give it a try. It was a good decision. The restaurant was clean and well decorated and almost upscale. Since it was lunch time we chose the buffet. The service was good and the food was excellent! The food was at a good temperature and very tasty. Zero stars Ordered two lamb tikka masala dishes one order of naan and one order of paratha...worst Indian food I've ever had. 1. It was definitely not lamb but beef. 2. The tikka masala sauced tasted like straight up prego with heavy cream added. It tasted like Italian tomato sauce with cream. No traditional Indian spices like garam masala etc. 3. Trader Joe's frozen paratha is 100 times better then what we were given. 4. The garlic naan was also a disappointment. Do NOT waste your money here. I'd love to be able to comment on the food, but after ordering over an hour ago, we have yet to receive it. No explanation. No apology. Not even a refill of water. The couple that was here prior to us asked to have their order bagged to go as they have been here well over an hour. The waitress took his credit card and returned it quickly. Over five minutes later the food was delivered to the table without explanation. The temperature in the restaurant can be no warmer than 65 degrees. Everyone is wearing coats. We were super rushed, brought the check and to go boxes less than five minutes after our food arrived...really awkward overall. Great stop for the lunch hour! Both the service and food are excellent. The dining area is a nice size and has plenty of room for ample seating. Everything seemed clean and well kept. Fort Wayne, IN. First experience at an Indian restaurant a few weeks ago! I fell in love with the garlic naan which is a garlic flatbread. The garlic naan was far better than the plain. I drank a strawberry lassie which is somewhat like a sweet yogurt smoothie, a nice contrast to the spicy food. But my favorate thing on the menu was Gulab jamun. I have never tasted anything quite like this. They are a spongy milk based balls soaked in a sweet syrup. I highly recommend trying them. I had a sampler. I can't begin to tell you what was on it, but servings were quite large. It was a fun experience with a group of 12, but service was slow. One person got their meal about 20 minutes before anyone else. But the hot food was hot and cold foods were cold. Servers were friendly. The restaurant was clean. I have ordered takeout from here a couple of times (thanks Waiter on the Way!) and enjoyed everything I ordered. The vegetable pakora and Punjabi Bhaji have excellent flavors, and I especially like the several types of naan, hot and fresh. I enjoy the "mild" spice level. I don't eat Indian food often enough to judge whether it's authentic but it's good, and that's what is important to me. There is a nice variety on the menu with quite a few vegetarian options. Unfortunately the dining area has a very strong incense or something that sets off my asthma immediately so I am not able to try the buffet or dine-in. read more
