On a road trip through WA in an RV, we decided to check out Yakima en route to the south. Stopped to enjoy some RNR overnight and got to this little gem at 11:30am straight from a hot yoga class at Renu, ready to destroy the buffet! All the food was delicious. They don't make it very spicy (hot) here but the dishes do have wonderful sweet and complex flavors which is the right compromise. Today the buffet offered butter chicken, mango chicken, chicken tikka, rice, naan, veg curry, yellow dahl (a hallmark of real Indian food!), potato curry, potatoes with peas, fried bhajis plus an assortment of salads, relishes, poppadom and fruit plus rice pudding for dessert. What a treat. We ordered a couple of mango lassis to aid digestion. These were sweet and tangy. Perfect. A great Indian meal hidden in the most unexpected part of WA! The lunch buffet here is so good. The menu differs day to day. The rice and Naan are yummy and there is 7-8 curry dishes available, 3-4 of which are vegetarian. I definitely like some items more than others but I haven't tried one that tasted bad. I sometimes get it delivered via Uber eats, but I much prefer the buffet for the value and variety. On this particular day, there was 3 different tables with guests of Indian descent eating here. Given the limited Indian population here in Yakima, I think that's a great sign that the food is truly tasty and authentic. read more

I've gone to this restaurant several times now since my first review, but it's been several months since I last ate there due to COVID. They are now open for dining with limited capacity. No buffet yet, so it's from the menu only. The food has always been good; it was always the service that was lacking. Today for lunch the server was a different person than in previous visits and and he was good. The chicken tikka masala and chicken korma were delicious, as was the naan bread. We are very happy they're open again for seated customers and hope the buffet can open again soon. read more

So I've been eating at Taj Palace for years and have never had a bad meal and suggest everyone give it a try. That being said I do have one complaint. Yesterday I showed up at 8:48pm to eat and was told by the host that it was too close to 9pm to be sat for dinner. My suggestion is if you have set hours for being open and someone shows up before scheduled time to close then you sit those customers. If you want to close at 8pm or 8:30pm that's fine just change your scheduled hours to be open until those times. Sorry but I found this to be very annoying and irritating. This is by far the best Indian food we have ever had, and for the best price. We came in at around four o'clock on the way back from Leavenworth, and it just happened to be happy hour! Their happy hour had both lamb curry and chicken korma on it, and that's what we ordered. The service was FANTASTIC. The waitress we had was wonderful and attentive. There are better Indian restaurants in bigger towns, but come on, I can't believe I have to say this: We need Taj Palace to relocate to Redmond, Washington stat. No, really. First of all, they have a buffet option at dinner time. Second of all, they use awesome-quality chicken to make their tandoori. Third of all, the lighting and ambience of the establishment is beyond casually comfortable. Fourth of all, I thank all of those people waiting in the long line at the nearby Red Robin for steering me to this unexpectedly much tastier (and much healthier) alternative while driving through Yakima. Everything I tasted from the buffet was beyond mild, so I cannot comment on their ability to satisfy heat-hounds. I am not very impressed, I have eaten at a lot of Indian Buffets this place didn't even make it on my favorite list. 1. The buffet is super tiny. 2. The tandoori chicken was like eating jerky, it was super dry and hard, very little flavor to it. 3. Butter Chicken is supposed to be mild in flavor, with a delicious creamy texture. This butter chicken was good, but it was spicy enough that I kept drinking a lot of water. 4. The tiny bit of curry chicken I did get, had really good flavor, it wasn't that spicy. I liked the small amount I had, their serving container was empty I literally had to scrap to get the last tidbits of chicken. 5. The mango pudding looks very runny, its like a very runny version of the mango ice cream, but with chunks of mango in it. Not very appealing. The lunch buffet before tax is $9.95 per person, for the small amount of food they had this really isn't worth it, I've been spoiled by Pooja in Sacramento, CA Namaste in Portland, OR plus several others I have been too. I've been to Taj palace 4 times now (and more in the future), and I am convinced. Taj palace is as good as any indian restaurant I've been to back home in Houston. I've had their shrimp vindaloo, shrimp tikka masala, and chicken korma. I wasn't much of a fan of the korma, but the vindaloo and tikka masala make me salivate just thinking about them. I've had the punjabi, keema (lamb), and garlic naan. The garlic naan is recommended as the best, and I completely agree. I've also been to the lunch buffet. It wasn't pink but it seemed like it needed to be cooked a little longer to be less crunchy? The vindaloo was ok but I would probably go for a higher level of spice. My naan was a little doughy but passable. If an Indian restaurant cannot make a solid nann then you know they are lacking. Service was ok. We had our water filled once but they was only time anyone came to us asking us if everything was ok. It was very quiet but i would suggest not having owners/managers sitting in plain site on their phones at the bar especially since they never came over to ask us how everything was.
