Had dinner with 2 friends. I had a lamb dish served with a very flavorful sauce. Lamb cooked perfectly, excellent. The other meals were chicken in a yellow curry sauce and white fish with vegetables on a sizzling platter. All meals had an abundance of flavor and all served with a large bowl of basmati rice. Definitely order a side of naan to dip in any sauce from your meal. The space is roomy so the tables are spread out nicely. They have nice details to the place settings, which is a nice touch. Food was very well priced and service was very friendly. They have a full bar, although this evening the bartender was absent so wine and beer were the only options. I've had their lunch buffet on a previous visit, but my preference is to order from the menu to get the freshest food. It's nice having a cultural experience in Yakima with flavors so unique and excellent. read more

We love stopping here on Sundays for their buffet on our way home from Seattle. Tasty food, the service is friendly and the TVs are playing Indian music. Only thing I would like to see different is for there to be a spinach/saag/palak dish. read more

AMAZING! Tried this place for the first time and we were blown away. The ambience is lovely and it feels fancy, the food is delicious, and the service? 11/10. We had a really fun, attentive server with great humor and got our order down with no notes, wow! It was my girlfriend's first time trying Indian food and she loved it. A few years ago my wife and I went to Taj Palace and walked out after 20 minutes of waiting at our table. We didn't receive a greeting, water, or menus. Fast forward to today and we decided to give them another chance. Big mistake. It a was so cold we kept our coats on, and when we informed the server he said the food will warm us up. We also asked for the music to be turned down since we were the only ones in the restaurant. He said he had no control and couldn't do it. The food was meh... no spice to the curry, even tho we asked for spicy. It wasn't worth enduring the ice cave of coldness to eat it. I cannot imagine the circumstances that would ever make us want to go back. read more

Horrible experience! 1. The waiter didn't pay attention while taking orders, he didn't note anything. Forgot what we ordered, when reminded of the missing orders he didn't even apologize. 2. They initially said they are out of soup. Then, they served a diluted soup. It was pretty obvious that they added water to the soup to make it a full serving. read more

Well, its been 13 years since I reviewed the Taj. We visit 3 or 4 times a year. Ownership changed a couple times, an now there is a big bar in the south end of the restaurant, but never seen anyone there. Indian music videos on large screens near the bar, loud and proud. The food is very good, but the upsell pressure in huge. Just give me what I order, thank you. We still go here because the food is good, but the place is not what is used to be. I am not saying do not go; go, it's good, I guess my only advice would be, be prepared for upsell, and get ready to talk loud to get over the loud music videos. read more

Let me be clear, far and away the unexpected jewel in Yakima insofar as the food is concerned. But a colleague and I have tried to eat there twice in the past four months and have found, with no warning on the website or anywhere else, that the dining room is closed. I get it, circumstances intervene in the best efforts of all of us and staffing, or COVID, or "construction" which was the most recent rationale, are all legitimate reasons. So those are your concerns. Mine are that I drove from a neighboring town for dinner with a colleague. It seems not to much to ask that when you tell me that I must now make alternate plans, you fake interest in the fact that my plans to spend money at your establishment have been thwarted. The rude, perfunctory responses I have received only serve as a continuation of the rather indifferent service I have received in the past. It kills me that the food is as good as it is. Because it is. The. Food. Is. Excellent. But I commute to and from Portland a couple times a month so I can have good Indian somewhere else, scratching that itch further south, and need some incentive to continue to, frankly, take a risk that I'll be able to eat there at all without checking each time. Yakima is not great for vegan options, so when I discovered this place had some, I figured I'd try them out. They have a daily lunch buffet (~$15 after tax) -- 2 of the mains are vegan (a generic veggie curry and an aloo mutter), plus a cucumber/tomato/green pepper salad, potato pakoras, and rice. The quality wasn't great: both curries were oily, quite salty, and not very dynamic flavour-wise. But I was full for not much money. Don't expect a tantalizing culinary experience here, but for what it is, it's a decen option. read more

I went back-and-forth on whether or not this place was a 4 or a 5 for quite a while. Ultimately, we figured it was a five because it's a place we've started ordering takeout from as well as stopping in to dine at. We have not experience the recent expansion into pizza, but we know they do a great job with Indian food! The Decour inside feels very traditional and definitely sets the atmosphere up nicely. There's plenty of seating at either tables or booths and during the lunch hour they have, I've heard, quite the buffet. We've only been here for dinner, and each time it's been very good. They have plenty of excellent traditional dishes like chicken tikka masala, Butter chicken or any of the myriad of curries available. The mango curry has become a personal favorite of ours! It's as good as anything we tried anywhere else. Our newest go to dish, that we previously haven't seen anywhere else, is the saffron gosht "Insert meat/cheese here". It pretty quickly has become one of my favorite things! We're not used to having saffron in anything other than pay so was nice to see it in a creamy sauce accompanying goat, cheese or chicken. It's the sort of sauce that you get some extra naan for so you can make sure you don't leave any of it behind. Our kids have also taken a liking to it as the last time we had it they were going at the remains with a spoon. The naan options here are also plentiful. Everything from the standard originals, garlic or cheese, down to ones that have a variety of spices, meats and fruit pieces in them. You really can't go wrong! They're good enough, that you should probably order an extra one because, seriously, it's only four bucks...and it will probably bring you more than four dollars in happiness! Went there for dinner. Naan was fresh and really good! Parking lot was empty and so was the dining room. The booth I was seated on sunk in lowering me to a level where eating from the table was awkward. There was a young kid who waited on me. He made too many odd attempts at "jokes" which I am sure no one would welcome. It was strange. I ordered the paneer in the butter sauce with naan. The food was ok- I ordered spice level 5 and still didn't get the spicy taste. Pretty basic food and nothing to write home about. If I could I would give this a zero. We traveled for quite a few miles to supposedly their lunch buffet which supposedly opened at 11:00 am. At 11:35 still no one there and closed sign up. I have eaten there for dinner and the food was good but small portions and very expensive. Quite disappointing wasting gas and money on a poorly run business. This was only my second time trying Indian food, and while I have been confident that there must be Indian food I would like a lot, my first experience wasn't as exciting as I had hoped. First, I'll tell you what we ordered here. My husband ordered a lemonade (boring choice). I ordered a mango lassi, which I've discovered is a real favorite for me. We decided to split an order of tandoori delight, which had five different meats served on a skillet with onions and peppers. There were two kinds of chicken, one boneless and one bone-in, some lamb, some kind of a shish kebab, and one prawn. I mention one prawn, because I did feel there should be at least two of them on the plate. The flavor was wonderful. However, some of the meats seemed a little overdone. This dish came with a side of rice which had such unusual flavors. Allspice? I don't know. With this dish, we ordered raita (a yogurt dip of some kind that seemed like it might have very finely shredded carrot in it). I liked dipping the meats and the garlic naan we also ordered in it. We had an order of papadum too, which is a crispy cracker chip thing. It comes with two sauces, a cucumber yogurt dipping sauce, and a tamarind sauce that is fabulous. For dessert, I tried the kulfi. It was not so appealing to my palate. It wasn't bad, it was just odd. Its texture was like someone had frozen a rice pudding dish. Just not very ice creamy. While I will likely not order that dessert again, I would happily return to try other things. The food was delicious. I liked that we could share it and get a pretty good variety to try. The service was a little lacking. Partly I think due to a lack of understanding in communication. But there was a missed item the first time around. And once the dishes were emptied, they should have been cleared from the table. Also, the music was loud, and not very appealing to our western ears -- although it did add to the atmosphere. I could have lived without the TV on. I was surprised to see a huge pizza selection on their menu. Who knew? Also, I loved that there are gluten free and dairy free options plainly marked on the menu, as there are restrictions we have to work around for family members. The food is good but the young waiter that is always there is sometimes rude and cracks a lot of jokes, he's not the most professional Or restaurant savvy. So that's kind of always a downside when we come here or order from here. Wish they had better or more workers. The portions are okay, usually not disappointed, but it used to be so much better years ago, the new owners kinda made the business go down. They never say online when they're open or closed either, we've come here so many times and they'll have a paper that says closed when it says they're open online, and they never answer the phone either. I'm spoiled with the good amount of Indian food in California. The buffet seemed to be expensive for what you're given. The entrees are typical. About 7 different choices, but not many are vegetarian. The best thing here was the Butter Chicken. You do get the Chicken Palak and Tandoori Chicken also the Lentils. You get Naan, Basmati Rice and Fried bread. The pakora is a bit spicy for some folks that can't handle the spicey foods. The salads look old. The dips are awesome. The Mango chutney, mint, and garlic sauce were great. You also get the yogurt dips. The dessert is mango pudding, which is like a mango lassi with canned mixed fruit, and rice pudding. I've eaten here several times over the years. What i love about Taj is the ambience - the music in the background, water served in a chilled copper pitcher, and dimly l lit room yield a charming undercurrent. The menu offers a vast host of options and combinations to please even the most difficult of pallets. On this visit, we were excited to see how the new ownership was going. The staff were very friendly, quick with refills, and fun to converse with. The food was ordered, prepared, and brought to the table very quickly. Was recommended this place by a local, and boy was I impressed by the food! I came here with a buddy during their lunch buffet which starts at 11am and ends at 2:30pm. The butter chicken, chicken korma, goat, and chicken tandoori were all extremely tender. Each bite was soft and packed with flavor. Highly recommend getting these servings. The chick peas and aloo pakora were average. Nothing too special here. Overall, the food was amazing! I just wished they had more options available for buffet. read more
