For what they charge for rooms they should have an electric gate and give people the code. 2. The ice machine has been broken for quite some time, so if you want ice later in the evening you need to hope the house manager is around. Otherwise it is a wonderful place to stay.

Small and very friendly with fabulous views of the Olympic mountains and average views across the flats of dungeness. The farm has excellent cute-ness qualities: White picket fence, the building is surrounded by a large porch; inside family portraits dating back to the turn of the century, big cllaw-foot baths with Oooodles of hot water (I had 2 per day, heaven!). Two elderly intelligent friendly resident owners who live in the building behind the Inn and still run the farm. Glenda Clark (ne Chambers) explained that the farm is the oldest family run farm in Washington state. She is thinking about trying to get it 'registered', the UK equivalent of 'listed'. It is no coincidence that Clark Chambers farm is the first building on 'Clark road'. Bob Clark is a never ending source of stories about farm life and the social history of the Dungeness region of the Olympic peninsular. A chirpy cheerful couple, they remind me of cockneys, with a different accent. I spent 2 nights with them. During one day I was able to explore Dungeness, During another I drove passed lake crescent and visited beaches on the West coast, Ruby, Beach 4 and Kalaloch. The B & B is n ot central for the Olympic peninsular but it does afford easy access. You can walk to Dungeness spit in less than a mile. Bob and Glenda talked about previous guests who liked to run, or cycle. The flat lands around dungeness are ideal for people who like these sort of activities. Plenty of fuel for our hike to the Dungeness spit lighthouse. Sara, one of the owners, even went out of her way to find tide information for the spit. It felt like staying at your own family's farm house. Great location, close to lavender farms, Dungeness recreation area, and 10 min away from town. Very peaceful. In the evening we watched two bald eagles on the barn and sat on the porch. Doesn't get much better than that!

We were headed to Sooke Harbor, BC for a much-needed, long weekend. Imagine our disappointment after driving 2+ hours from our home in Kirkland to the Black Ball Ferry in Port Angeles, only to find there was no room for us on the only afternoon ferry to Victoria!! Note: we learned a valuable lesson - make reservations if you want onboard!! Our spirits dashed, we began to formulate Plan B after canceling our reservation at Sooke Harbor. We searched the interweb for hotels or lodges in the vicinity and came across the Bond Retreat Ranch. After finding other places booked solid or not yet open for the season, we were very relieved when Tess said we could have the Cottage for the weekend! We headed straight to the Ranch where we were greeted by the congenial Tess and her sidekick, Goofy the hound dog. She took us on a quick tour of the Ranch - a lovely, well-maintained spread, which includes 5 guest rooms with the B&B, a large pasture for the two resident horses, a cute wedding chapel, covered patio for gathering, breakfast room made from a converted barn, pavilion for dancing, and several other outbuildings. Then we were escorted to our private little cottage with a cozy living room, kitchen, bathroom, bedroom and a private yard with chairs, porch, picnic table, lots of trees and a nice view of the ranch. The B&B wasn't open for the season, but Tess was happy to put us up. All the buildings on the ranch were built by Morris, the 70 year-old owner and Tess' longtime partner. Morris bought the land when he was 18, logged the trees, milled the lumber and built it all himself, including their home on the premises. The workmanship is impressive and the entire place is clean, inviting, rustic and charming. The ranch is a lovely venue for a wedding, family reunion or group getaway. In season they have a nightly campfire and serve breakfast in the barn and patio. The Cottage was spotless - not a speck of dust or cobweb in sight! I found this very impressive considering we arrived off-season. The bed was so cozy - we slept like babies! There were lots of warm quilts and fluffy pillows to snuggle into. The kitchen has a fridge, sink, small range and is stocked with enough dishes, pans & utensils to prepare light meals. If you want to grill, there is one at the pavilion or they will bring one down to the Cottage. There is a book of local restaurant recommendations, some magazines about the area and an electric fireplace in the living room. What they don't have is a TV or wifi - so you are delightfully unplugged! The pavilion does have wireless if really needed (cell service on Verizon was sketchy at best). We spent two full days exploring the surroundings and east side of the Olympic National Park - Salt Creek State Park, Crescent Bay, Madison Falls, Hurricane Ridge, the Elwha Valley, Lake Crescent, Marymere Falls, the Lake Crescent Lodge, etc. We hiked a LOT! The weather was nice - our last day it was fantastic! We had a delicious dinner at the Alder Wood Bistro (highly recommended) and a crazy-good breakfast at the Oak Table Cafe, both in Sequim. We picked up some groceries at the Sunny Farms Country Store with its great selection of organic and local produce & meats, raw honey, etc. All of these are within 10 min of the Ranch. For our 2nd night we picnicked in the front yard, enjoying the vibrant, northwest skies for sunset. This was the best Plan B ever! We can't wait to come back and explore more of the area and hopefully spend another stay at the Ranch. Sadly, Morris & Tess are Looking to retire, so the Ranch is on the market. How I wish I had the youth and money to buy it! What a lovely piece of paradise. Fortunately, the Ranch will be open in the meantime and we highly recommend you check it out!

It's a comfy peaceful nights rest for all three of us. An important pet rule; although it should be common sense if you're a responsible pet owner: "don't leave your dog alone in your room!" Take in the charm of a small community, the beautiful Victorian homes and wild deer that surround you. Opt instead to take the staircase that connects Uptown and Downtown vs. the Monroe St. hill that runs directly into downtown. While on your way to the stairs swing by Aldrich's for a cup of coffee. I would encourage anyone that has had a negative experience to reach directly out to Ann with your concerns. Port Townsend's main economic driver is tourism. All B&B owners in town are sensitive to visitor experiences in the area and want to make sure all of them are positive.

It's valentines and my partner and I were searching for a romantic getaway apart from the phoney overpriced dinner reservations and other typical "spend money for love" experiences that Patagonia wearing Seattle-ites expect on this holiday. However, we did want to do something special. For us that meant a trip to the peninsula, complete with day hikes and a few nights of camping (which is our typical three day weekend go-to). In this case we wanted to find a motel with a kitchenette to have a romantic dinner/night in. After failed attempts of booking the goatel (on 101 and hwy 20) we landed in PA at sportsmen. The brother and sister who checked us in were lovely. The room was a perfect size for two people, with a glorious little kitchen and full size fridge. It's on the east side of the city with a long walk downtown, but we weren't interested in spending a night in town anyways. The price was cheap (off season) and the room was clean with a nice firm mattress and even a TV if you're into that! We will definitely remember this spot and revisit it in the future!
