When we're in town for one of the many wonderful Centrum.org concerts and we're staying over with the dog. Well it's the Swan the most dog friendly well run boutique hotel anywhere. Just my humble opinion mind you. Gus gets a small bag of high quality hand made cookies with his name on it. He gets a blue pillow to his size and his own water and food dishes are provided on a doggy mat. Also included are number of doggy's towels for tidying up! It's a comfy peaceful nights rest for all three of us. An important pet rule; although it should be common sense if you're a responsible pet owner: "don't leave your dog alone in your room!" Service at the front desk and housekeeping are genuinely friendly and accommodating. read more

I decided to treat myself to a night at the Swan Hotel for my birthday this year. I booked room #4 in the back which they indicated would be quieter. After we arrived the couple in the room next to us went into their room and we realized we could hear everything they said. I quickly struck up a conversation with my partner so that they would also know the walls didn't provide privacy. Those neighbors were awesome and were quiet and polite the entire time. Unfortunately, the neighbors upstairs went out to party and came back between 12am and 1am... The first person clomping up the stairs woke me and was slightly annoying, but when the drunk people started arriving giggling, talking loudly, and falling around up the stairs - that was annoying! I don't know if it was the same group or other guests, but after being woke up the 4th or 5th time - I was pretty frustrated and had trouble getting back to sleep. I told the front desk clerk in the morning, and he apologized saying he'd talk to the guests staying upstairs. Instead of enjoying Port Townsend the next day, we just drove the 2 hours home in the morning so we could get some sleep. II doubt I'll splurge (nearly $300 for the sleepless night) at this hotel again due to the noise issues. Maybe the cabins would be a better experience. And likely this was just situational - if all the guests were like the people in the room next to us, we would have had a much better experience. We have stayed here twice, once in the hotel and once in the cottage. Great experience with our rooms and staff both times. The rooms come equipped with a mini fridge, microwave, coffee pot, coffee, cups, plates, silverware, as well as wine glasses. Shady business practices. Cindy at Swan hotel ignored a timely cancellation on Booking.com and charged us a full price of two nights for the room. Our text messages confirming the cancellation went unanswered. When we called to rectify this, Cindy complained that she could have rented out the room to someone else over the Fourth of July weekend, and she pretended that she did not receive the cancellation email from Booking.com (which they confirmed was sent out); she refused to issue a refund despite our offer to forward cancellation proof. Apparently she was able to act on the reservation, but not on the cancellation. This case involves 1. lies to a customer, and 2. an attempted theft. Booking.com proceeded to action this case (as well as enforcing our refund). Booking.com tells us that Cindy tried to lie to them as well, and they simply laughed. I think that's an appropriate response, but I wouldn't rent from Swan hotel. read more

I was here for a one-night visit to PT and it worked out well. Situated on the corner of town with the water around, occasionally a boat steam horn could be heard in the room (not sure if it's common or just someone showing off their toy). My friend booked us for a corner ground room and it was good, fairly average... Room dings: While some channels had the HD, some lower ones were static. The bed squeaked/moved quite a bit -- I'm guessing the running board joints are kind of loose and/or need repair soon. The windows are right by the walking path so know what the curtains and a closed window are good for. Depending on the time of day, I think, the sink water took forever to warm up. The staff seemed nice, though, and you could take your pick with some popcorn and movies! Thanks to this, I was able to watch Mel Brooks' Blazing Saddles. Awesome movie! If you're looking to stay a night or two in Port Townsend, give Swan Hotel a looksee. I absolutely loved staying here. It's situated at the tail end of the downtown area, closer to the marina, so you not only get some peace and quiet, but you're centrally located to shops, dining, and the water. There's free parking with your stay, which is a nice perk. If you get a chance, stay in one of the cottages. They are more private and charming than the regular rooms and are just adorable. It's like staying in a mini apartment with a water view. You have everything you need: big, comfy bed, TV, lots of windows, a fireplace, a separate (and large) bathroom, all the usual amenities (even robes), your own parking spot just outside, and even a little deck with adirondack chairs to sit outside. I was absolutely blissed out when I stayed here with my boyfriend. Prices can be a bit steep, but I think it's worth it. I went during off season, so the prices weren't too unreasonable. If you steer clear of the April to October timeframe, I think you can find some really great rates, especially if you are a AAA member. read more

The Swan is located within walking distance of many shops and restaurants, plus the city's waterfront. The staff is professional and friendly. I don't usually bother to write a review of a hotel unless I feel pretty strongly about it, either positive or negative. The Swan is just sort of an average normal hotel. Poster art on the walls, a little noisy, a little worn but not in a homey quaint way. The staff was fine, but certainly didn't go out of their way. The reason I'm actually writing this is to give a heads up to others about their pet policy. They claim to be dog friendly and allow pets, but when I got there they had a page long list of dog rules with the threat of a $150 fee if any of the rules were broken. These rules included not allowing pets in the room when your not there. As you can imagine this is pretty inconvenient when you go out to dinner. They also don't allow pets on the furniture but then they don't provide a pet bed. There are many places to stay in Port Townsend, I'm going to shop around Port Townsend before I stay here again. read more

I stay at The Swan once a year when I visit Port Townsend for an art retreat. The service is good and the people are very friendly. I started out in one of the small rooms on the ground floor and then moved to one of their cabins. I've never stayed in any of the rooms on the higher floors because there's no elevator and I do not pack light. The ground floor room I stayed in was small but charming and cozy. The cabin is of course bigger, but still very cozy and my home away from home with everything one could possibly need for a week-long stay: microwave, refrigerator, free internet and a gas fireplace to keep you toasty. There's a supermarket in town that is open 24 hours for the ultimate in convenience and the cabins have their own designated parking spot just steps from your front door. Also worth noting, the local pizza shop, Waterfront Pizza, is SO GOOD and they deliver. :) Many shops and restaurants are within walking distance, but I would suggest renting a car to really go exploring. You'll want to visit nearby Fort Worden State Park, which is only about a ten minute drive from this hotel. And now for the DRAWBACKS: Right across the street there is a bar where folks like to hang out front and sometimes they can get a bit loud. The window treatments are a bit thin and so the privacy factor can be an issue, especially with the above mentioned bar folk. And one more thing that may or may not be a problem for you (certainly not for me because I stay by myself) but the bathroom wall in the cabin doesn't go all the way to the ceiling. It's more like a partition wall, so there's not a whole lot of privacy to be had there, if you happen to be staying with another person. But, like I said, this is my home away from home and I definitely recommend it. read more

This review is only in reference to this establishment's lack of transparency regarding their pet policy. I would rely on other reviews to determine if this a good place to stay. Their website refers you to a page that is supposed to be their pet policy, yet the real pet policy is contained in another link, which is not clearly marked as their pet policy. I made a reservation here based on the information on their "Pet Policy Page". Later after reading a review on Yelp I again reviewed their pet policy. After searching diligently I found the link ("download PDF") in the middle of the page to the real pet policy, which states that pets are not allowed on furniture. If I had known of that policy I would have not made a reservation as our dogs sleep in bed with us. Here is my problem. The policy states that you are to keep all pets off of furniture. Below that it states that any violation of the above policies may result in a minimum $150.00 charge. read more

The people here are wonderful and kind. The room we had on the second floor, was tiny, but had what we needed. The place was like a nightmare in terms of sound. We could here the kids above us jumping and running and screaming, the people below us having a conversation, I mean we could hear word for word. And then other people having sex all night. THe problem with the place is there is not one once of insulation or noise barrier. These people were all in our room for all intents and purposes. I rented a "cabin" for 2 nights. Pros: location at the end of town that was nice and slow. Allow pets (see note in cons), clean, safe, plenty of towels, polite staff, really nice landscaping, and quaint decor. Nice coffee shop tucked into the building across the street, and a short walk to the beach and restaurants. Cons: Very expensive-almost $400 for 2 nights (AAA rate), for one person and one 6 lb dog. Pet policy is really not a pet policy. You can't leave the dog at all, which is why I rented a cabin and brought a kennel. There is a contract to sign with the pet giving them the right to charge $150 (for example, if you allow the dog on the bed because they will have to wash the comforter). I ripped the thing off of the bed right away, not because the dog was on the bed, but who knows how long since it had been washed. The first night the woman at the front desk gave me an unsolicited dinner suggestion based on a place where "I can drive there an leave the dog in the car because there is a breeze there." So, that's what I did. I'm sure hotels have guests with pets who abuse policies all of the time, but it was an extra $40 for the dog. I think they could let go a bit. The cabins are basically in the parking lot, which is gravel. All night people walked through, talked, dragged luggage, and drove in or out. They clomped up and down the stairs, which are conveniently located on the outside of the hotel, right outside the windows of the "cabins." It was like all that noise was 3 feet from my head - just awful. The seagulls were no problem compared to all of the activity on gravel. I couldn't leave windows open due to noise and privacy - which was none, by the way. I dressed in the bathroom because the blinds were not adequate when it was dark out. I really wanted to open the window because there was no AC and it was too warm, but balanced it with privacy and sleep and decided to keep it shut. Also, the shower head was not adjustable and I kid you not, it hit my upper stomach! I've never had to bend over like that to wash my hair. I wish I'd done more research. I do think it would be a nice place if you stayed in the building and the price was better. The bottom line is that it was not a bad stay, but the hassles really taxed relaxation, sleep, and privacy. read more

Amazing little find in Port Townsend. Very friendly staff. We stayed in Cabin #4 because it was pet friendly and it was perfect. There was an adorable bucket with small towels and treats for each pup with their names. There were water bowls and dog beds as well. If you're traveling with your pups, go for Cabin#4. Its private, cozy and quiet. Perfect for a little night away with the fur babies. Great location and within walking distance to everything. Side note, parking is challenging if you own a large, full size truck. We will definitely be back! read more

Clean, cozy, and cute. We stayed in Cabin #1 and it was darling and a great value. When we visit PT again, this establishment will be my first choice. It is not the Westin, but it doesn't advertise itself as such. I enjoyed cozying up to the little gas fireplace in the robe the Swan provided and having a cup of hot cider. The walls of the bathroom do not go all the way up to the ceiling in the cabins - but this was not a problem for Hubby and me. Very close to everything in town and a lovely little water view from cabin #1 (the new Wooden Boats Center blocks the water view from the other cabins). It is right in the center of the town, but we did not find it to be overly noisy and the staff is extremely helpful and friendly. read more

We loved staying Cabin #1 for a night last weekend. It was homey, clean, inviting, and well maintained. Front desk staff were helpful and friendly. We had no issues with noise, other than hearing birds over head in the morning. It is a very convenient location right at the end of town. We were able to walk to almost anything with ease. For example, they have DVDs you can borrow, popcorn, hot chocolate with real mugs (in your room), bath salts, and free access to a gym across the street. As a frequent visitor to Port Townsend over the years, I'd always walked/driven by The Swan, often wondering what it would be like to stay in one of its picturesque, quaint little cabins. My wife and I recently celebrated our first anniversary, and we decided to stay at Port Townsend's Swan Hotel. I must say, we had a fantastic visit. The staff who'd helped us were very courteous and kind. We were never treated with disrespect, and were never pestered about housekeeping with our 'Do Not Disturb' sign up. The staff seemed to take pride in their ability to serve guests, and were very, very pleasant. We stayed in one of Swan's cabins during our visit. The cabin itself was charming and cozy, through and through. One issue we did have was with noise coming through the cabin walls. Despite being in a separated cabin, we could still hear the voices of people talking outside and around the hotel property. Since The Swan is right on the outskirts of downtown, there would be people walking and talking loudly nearby. Speaking of (and this isn't a complaint of the Hotel itself, but rather something to be aware of), beware of tourists keen with their cameras. We kept our curtains open and windows up because of the recent heat wave, and one morning after waking up, we discovered tourists snapping photos of our cabin, with us clearly visible. Rude tourists aside, The Swan is at a wonderful location. It is on the corner of Water & Monroe in downtown PT; the wonderful shops and delightful restaurants are just a few minutes' walk away, as is the stunningly gorgeous coastline. Over about a half an hour, one can walk the beach from near The Swan all the way up to the lighthouse at Fort Worden. Staying at The Swan also nets you a free pass to the nearby PT Athletic Club, which is, sadly, less than stellar. But that's a story for another day. By far, the most prominent complaint I had was with the hotel's parking; and even that didn't break the experience, it was just a bit of an annoyance. The hotel's property is rather small, and the parking lot itself is borderline-cramped. It will take some creative maneuvering to park properly, especially when the hotel is full. All in all, we had a wonderful experience at The Swan, and will easily be back again; I'd encourage others to do the same! read more

We rented the penthouse. We only stayed one night but wish that we could come sooner on our vacation and been able to stay more than just the one night! Everyone at the swan that we encountered was absolutely delightful. I can't imagine a more charming and thoughtful place to stay in Port Townsend. someone mentioned an obstacle of no air-conditioning and to be honest it concerned me at first. What I found was a beautiful water breeze, sounds from the port city and every detail I could've wanted in our stay. there was an abundance of specialty products left for us in the bathroom in both the bathrooms and the kitchen. it's on a perfect side of town to see the water and an easy walk to everything you want to do. I brought my dog as they are dog friendly. They do charge $20 pet fee per night and they don't allow you to leave your pet in the room by himself during the day. If found there is a $150 penalty. Tje toom is spacious with a microwave and mini fridge. The beddings are a bit dated. The best part of the hotel is the location and the worst part is the noise. If you staying in either of the ground floor rooms you could hear the people above you walking around and the toilet flushing. I got waken up at 3am because the woman above got up to go use the bathroom. Stay in one of the 4 cabins if you don't want to get waken up by the people above you!!! read more

Don't plan an intimate getaway here. The beds are old and creaky and the walls and floors are apparently paper thin. What's worse is after going to bed we received a call from the front desk around 10 pm stating the guests below us were complaining about the noise. The manager kept my girlfriend on the phone for over a minute. Our subsequent best efforts to conceal the slightest bump and squeak still resulted in a visit by the owner/manager 30 minutes later. I've stayed in hundreds of motels over the past 30 years and have never had that happen. Really? a visit from management at 11 pm because the bed is squeaky? Stayed only for one night on a special little getaway. The staff was very pleasant and friendly. They were very accommodating and flexible; as we showed up a good bit of time before standard check-in and they gladly checked us in early. The room was very clean and cozy, and they had a great selection of movies you could choose from if you wanted to avoid the rainy weather outside or just have cozy time. Sometimes, most times, when you try to realize a long-held fantasy, the ultimate end holds a significant measure of letdown. In the time between conceiving the fantasy and achieving it, too much was emotionally invested, and decorated and elaborated on, until inevitably, the dream hotel isn't and could never be dreamy enough. Not this time. Years ago, I saw an Adirondack chair outside one of the Swan Hotel cabins and knew I wanted to stay there. Summers passed, one after another, and when I remembered Port Townsend I'd look at the hotel website, always concluding that the hotel and cabins were outside my price range. Come November 1 and an AAA discount and I got into Room 2 in the main hotel and it's just so perfect. Cozy, pretty, scrupulously clean. Loaner DVD that played the first time because my host at the front desk walked me through operation of the remotes at check-in (and I now wonder why all hosts don't do this since I find that 8 times out of 10 the remotes DON'T work without a lengthy consultation and lots of fiddling). Coffee maker, chamomile tea, toiletries, rich, deep towels, excellent bed and -- here's the rarest thing -- beachy decor in restrained good taste. It's a hard balance for seaside lodgings to hit -- how many rowboats, floats, pirates, mermaids, and swaths of globe-and-compass wallpaper and fishing nets are too many -- and the Swan does it beautifully. Their location is perfect. I just think it's wonderful. read more

Such an overpriced, disappointing hotel. You are paying for location and not much else. We booked our room under a wedding rate ($200 a night for a studio, was supposed to be $175 but they refused to honor the rate). NO air conditioning, uncomfortable beds, broken noisy ceiling fans, outdated bathrooms with no conditioner. With no amenities and dated rooms, it's unbelievable to see this room go for $200 a night before tax. We (and our friends in the next room over) felt seriously ripped off. read more

So I just stayed in what they called the penthouse. Which encompasses the whole 3rd floor of the main hotel. So first impressions of the room, it's big. Very big. 2 bedrooms, master has a King size bed with its own bathroom. Second bedroom is average sized with a queen bed. Has a normal kitchen like your house does. Full size refrigerator, oven, microwave and so on. Also has utensils and kitchenware. Which is nice if you need them. Has a loft area upstairs with 2 queen beds as well. Has a study type of area with a desk. The thing about it is. When you pay this much for a room you would hope that they would have finished painting everything in the room. They did not. Does have a large deck with a nice view. Also not fully painted. All in all its a nice place for a group. Just not for someone looking for something special, details are just not there. read more

We were able to get the last ground floor studio at the last minute for our wedding anniversary and we feel so fortunate that we did. Great location, friendly and helpful staff, and all the amenities you need. The free DVD with popcorn was fun and you're a block away from great coffee at Velocity. I love being near the water and the marina. Port Townsend offers so much; we're planning our next trip with friends at our new favorite place - The Swan. read more

Myself an my wife came out port townsend wa for a romantic getaway. After looking all around online for hotels in the area we both agreed the swan looked romantic and most important to my wife "not haunted". So we booked a cottage "c2" online an were excited to see our room. Once arriving i spoke to the staff " very friendly " got my keys an went into our room. Very warm an romantic we loved the fire place and the set up in general. I would never use a tub at a hotel because i am germ-a-phobe But hell the jetted tubs in this hotel i had to try and well guess what it was one of the best baths ever. The reviews are odd here we had a great stay. The fire place controls were easy to find an use. The room could be just right or the 3rd circle of hell if you needed it to be. We heard very little noise outside of the room even during a busy festival next door with over 100 people. The hotel was a little pricey but hey its worth it. it was a great stay an we would do it again in a heart beat the rooms were very clean an there was a parking spot reserved for our cottage, It was perfect. Great view also an just a few steps from the heart of port Townsend! Give it a try thanks for a great night sleep swan. i would suggest they upgrade the tv / maybe get a satellite service read more
