We've been taking our 2.5 year old son at this Aquabeba location for a few months, and we are…read moregenerally happy. First of all, as these swim classes took place in the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic, we've been very happy with all the safety precautions: - Classes were limited to 2 students, recently expanded to 3. - Only one parent/guardian and the child are allowed in the building at any time. - The parent/guardian and the child are allowed in the building only 5 minutes before class. - They check temperatures for all. The pool is heated, it is clean, and there are two bathrooms/changing rooms, each one with 6 lockers and one shower. They clean the changing areas in between classes. The instructors are great, and the 30-minute classes we took are intense[1]. Even though the exercises and routines were essentially the same, a lot depends on the energy of the teacher. I feel that the more energetic teachers are actually the more effective. There are a few things to consider: - The pool is not very big. It is certainly large enough for the 3 students plus 3 parents/guardians in the current class, but things could get crowded at full capacity. Also considering that each changing room has only one shower. - There is no priority enrollment for students who are currently enrolled in a class. Once the mass email for new enrollment is sent out, spots are assigned on a first-come-first-serve basis. Basically you only have a few minutes to register your kid. - There is no phone number to call. For anything you need, you have to send an email. The person in charge is nice and will reply, usually within a couple of days, and often within a few hours. However, if you need information quickly, thins is a problem. -------------------- [1] This was the Sea Otters level: 1 year/10 months to 2 yrs/10 months.

It took some time to build the skills but they are so concrete now that my son is very comfortable this something we are so grateful for. I write this review because this past weekend at a friend's house our son was knocked into the pool by another child playing. As we ran to jump in he shot to the top of the water and started to the wall. He was not even in his swim suit anymore and managed with a shirt on. We were in and got him very quickly but seeing him not panic and know what to do was something we will never forget.

First of all, this pool is fantastic! The pool is big enough so that, even though multiple classes are going on at the same time, there's plenty of room. In fact, for the 3 months we've been there, only about half of the pool was used. The water is saltwater, and it is heated. The class itself is good to get your baby to be comfortable in the water; just don't expect much more. The instructor, Nico, was great: knowledgeable and always enthusiastic about his job. Classes are repetitive, with more or less the same routine/songs every time[1]. Parents can use the benches around the pool as changing area[2], and we never had issues finding a spot. Importantly, there is also a changing room with showers. The changing/locker room is small-ish, with a limited number of lockers and 3 showers. However, it is very clean and I always found a locker I could use. With a 2-5 months old baby, you need two people, as it would be otherwise very difficult for you to dry yourself up and get changed at the end of the class if you also have to take care of your baby. What worked for us was this: at the end of the class, I would dart for the changing room with the baby[3]; quickly shower with the baby, and then hand over the baby to my wife who would be waiting outside the locker room with a bath towel. I would then dry myself up and get changed while my wife would take care of the baby. In the end we did not enroll our baby to other classes, as the entire next month was already fully booked. Moreover, this swimming program is expensive: $48 per class, $40 if you purchase a block of 4 classes. Considering that a class is just 20 minutes, this is actually the most expensive program we found[4]. The facilities (pool plus changing/locker room) and the teachers are great, so whether this is a fair price is up to you. For us, as we wanted to enroll in a full semester of classes, it was just too much money. We may come back in the future, perhaps taking a class every other week or something, but not a full semester. -------------- [1] Which, as the parent in the water with the baby, can get very boring... [2] see this video to get an idea: https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/swimjim-brooklyn-brooklyn-2?select_video=VVY5qZZNE2JdYb6iwjnGLw [3] As there are only 3 showers, otherwise you may have to wait a long time as other parents and teachers shower. Instead of trying to help or accommodate my child's first lesson the instructor made comments about the other student being a better participant. He was not engaging and his attitude toward the class was flat. This is while the other employees are mentioning that it is their last class of the day and expressing their happiness about that. When I contacted the company for a session that was perhaps more engaging and at and earlier time where the staff wouldn't be counting down the minutes until they are free, they dropped him from the class.
