Much to our surprise we arrived at 6 and there was an hour wait! We decided to hang out n the bar. While there was a wait at the door, the bar was empty. That may be because service was ridiculously slow! From where we were in the bar, we couldn't hear anyone's name being called and they don't use a notification system to inform you when your table is ready. So after waiting an hour and a half, we went to the front and asked the host, "how much longer do we have to wait?" Oh we have seats for you now, Argh! After seating, they immediately took our order and had appetizers and drink refills in front of us. So while things started really slow, it quickly picked up. Our food was being started on the grill and we were again happy. Much to my surprise and disappointment was the handling of food, by the cook! On the raw plate, was steak, chicken, lobster, shrimp, and scallops all separate but lumped together cross contaminating one another. And it got worse! After the chef had cooked everything, he realized nobody ordered chicken and he put the cooked chicken back onto the raw food plate! Aside from that, the food that was cooked for our meal, was done so very well. We liked it while we ate at the restaurant. However, upon returning home, our stomachs were a wreck and we stank of garlic! Surprised because none of us saw any being cooked. This has to be a love hate. This has been the best Japanese food and hibachi grill to date that we've found in the area. It's become our go-to place when we get a craving or when we just want to celebrate everyday life with a good meal. The food is delicious, the service is good, and the prices are quite reasonable. Hibachi dining as well as regular dining room service is offered. The restaurant itself seems a tad dirty. Tables, menus, and floors were sticky, and condiments have some crusty fingerprints on the outside of the containers. The bathrooms have been a hit and miss. One visit, they were well stocked and relatively clean, the next, it was pretty disgusting and I had to let a staff member know they needed some tending to. Despite those shortcomings, this still remains our top pick for really delicious, reasonably priced Japanese food. Not to mention, they also offer very affordable weekday lunches and other dine-in specials that are the best value. Lastly, the hostess has always been amazing. For checking in, paying for your meal, as well as ordering take-out, we can always rely on a good experience and great service by them alone. We look forward to returning. read more

We were seated very quickly at the hibachi side and they took our orders promptly. We shared our side with another family but for some reason the wait time to get a hibachi chef was longer than expected. They served our sushi orders quickly though. I got the Salmon Skin roll and it was delicious. Since it was Monday we also got the roll half off. I ordered the Teriyaki Chicken and it was good. The hibachi chef and workers were so friendly and nice. It took a while for us to get a chef though and for him to start cooking our food so by the time I got my Teriyaki Chicken and fried rice at the end, I wasn't that hungry anymore. Fried Rice was okay but saltier than I would like. The meal also comes with soup. Overall, it was a 3.5/5 for me. Wait time was a little long for food for hibachi, but loved the service and sushi. If you dont like to sweat while you eat then dont eat here if AC is needed. They have a broken AC that I assume the owners are to cheap to fix. We came here on a hot day and all they have running is what's the equivalent to a swamp cooler. They add ice to it every so often but it barely knocks the edge off the heat. A discount of 10% off showed up on my phone... as is shown on the website for the restaurant. Yay me!! I was not expecting it so, awesome sauce... When I asked the server about it, he and the manager said, "this does not apply for you, sorry. This is only for military." I see nothing that says, "military" on the discount. I love my military and am ex-Navy but do not carry my DD214 around in my pocket... so, boo-yah on me. The sushi chef and the food = amazing. The service was only so-so if that. Been here several times over the years and always enjoyed the food. My latest visit was no different. We were able to get seated as soon as we arrive, which was great as they were many waiting on hibachi seating. We chose the dinning room. Our drink order came quickly and we placed our order. All is well, the salad and soup came quick. Then the first of three birthday, drum pounding parade started. A loud banging on pots and drums so loud you can't here or talk in the place. Too much over kill. I'm sure some with kids will enjoy it but way to much to march in and bang your way back to the kitchen. Service started ok but went down hill after the food arrive. Had to wait for drink refills and a long time to every get our check. We were in no hurry so I just sat back to see how long before they came around. Over 10 minutes after finishing. I love the food choices and quality of the food at taking.... sushi is amazing abundant and always fresh... and above all of this they have great two person specials... lower price but same high quality and amount. Came in and sat at a hibachi grill. Ordered even got sushi. Finished eating sushi, salad and soup. They cleared the table and we were expecting the chef to come out. 5 minutes later they decide to sit 3 more people. Waited on them to get their soup and salad. They finished eating. Again expecting chef. Been sitting at the table over 30 minutes and they decide to sit 3 more people. I tell the hostess that we have been here for 30 minutes and ask if we are really going to have to wait another 15 minutes for them to order before the chef comes out? She says yes. I will never be back and we usually come once a month. I am so upset at how they could careless about their customers time. I used to go here a lot and really enjoyed it, but I never tried their sushi. I ordered take out and got a spicy California roll and a regular California roll. I was very disappointed with the quality of the food. The sushi is simply just not good. The spicy California roll had red hot sauce instead of wasabi or spicy mayo. Each piece was made with soggy wet tasteless Nori. I also found a small bug on the top of the hot sauce On one of my rolls, very clearly there if anyone had taken a second to check it (it is in the photo on the lid of the container). I tried two pieces, and ended up spitting both out as the flavor was just not present. For five dollars, I guess this is what you get, but I definitely expected more from a Japanese style restaurant. Drinks are not made with (house) liqueurs that are decent or at a good price. And seldom meat is cooked properly. (Primarily steak). HOWEVER, the flavor of the food is absolutely perfect! AND, if you speak up the restaurant will not rest until your order of meat temperature is corrected, and quickly. Servers are genuinely kind. Tako Yaki is my favorite restaurant. The food, the staff, the customer service is phenomenal. Hibachi side This was a very fun experience. The chef was skilled and made the presentation fun. His cooking skills were also quite good. The taste was a little different from what I have had at other hibachi places. He added sesame seeds to the dish. It was very good and unique. ALL of the ingredients were very fresh. Veggies steak and chicken. The place is a little older, and it does show its age. It was clean and comfortable. If you want a fun night with kids, a HUGE meal, and something to talk about. I used to come to this spot weekly when I lived in the area and the food was always great. The service typically isn't bad. I went again to visit tonight and the waitress forgot parts of the order and when politely reminded toward the end of our meal, she gave us an attitude and didn't return to the table once aside to grab our payment. Tako Yaki has succumbed to the curse of inconsistency over the past several years. When it's good, it's very good - when it's bad, it's inedible. I'm not certain what happened, but the quality has taken a fairly steep decline from when I first began dining here in 2011 or so. The service, much like the food, is hit-or-miss. Whereas the food has the potential to be some of the best Asian cuisine in the area, you never quite know what you're getting. At best, it's fresh and fantastic - when it isn't, expect it to be served with a thick sheen of oil, possibly undercooked, and possibly cold (or still semi-frozen.) If you're willing to gamble, go for it - the prices are reasonable enough to justify the culinary Russian Roulette. read more

Tako Yaki was consistantly inconsistent. When I first started dinning here around 2011, they were consistantly great. The food could be a little greasy, sometimes, but nothing out of the ordinary when it comes to fried food like tempura. The fish always tasted fresh, the rice was never stale and the hot tea was powdered matcha. Down the line there was a gradual slope of quality that my fiancee and I noticed that eventually lead us to quit frequenting the place as we used too. The nostalgia for this place and what it once was brought us back today for what will probably be our last dine. Tako Yaki has gone from inconsistent to consistantly bad. Apart from the salad, which has some of the best ginger dressing anywhere, the food was a melancholy of disappointment. The tempura was a bit soggy and my sweet potato was undercooked so much I started to wonder if it was actually a large flat carrot. The salmon tasted lightly of defrost and my fiance's shrimp was inedible. The rice was half good, with the bottom half being so drippy with grease that neither of us finished our bowl. I saw an ad for a new dessert and ordered white chocolate blueberry cheesecake, which tasted fine except for the fact it was still so frozen my fork couldn't cut through it. Tako Yaki has a really lovely atmosphere that I will continue to miss and remember fondly. We almost always ate in the dining area which was perfect for dates. It's always very clean and the staff has always been very nice. Today, I found this to be the last good consistency of Tako Yaki as the staff, being new faces to us, were just has wonderful as who had been there years before. If the food could just have kept with the inconsistency of sometimes being good enough to come back, I could justify returning, but as it is now with every recent trip being at best disappointing and at an all too commonly inedible I cannot bring myself back. Our dinner tonight may have been the worst experience I have ever had at a restaurant. I have eaten nearly every cyisine in every city in a the US as well as many countries worldwide. I have seen the good and the bad. One hour and 40 minutes to get served at our table tonight. The place was filthy and hot. I witnessed one white manager that was telling rudely at a younger Asian girl that worked there to seat us, for no reason other than to boss her around. The manager, after we spent $200, would not bring a bowl of ice cream out for my brother's birthday. She moved her hands around like she was using sign language to my mother while she was telling us there was nothing they could do for him. She said we were not specific enough. Really? Almost a 2 hour wait, a birthday and a big bill and not one little bowl of ice cream with a candle? At the very end of the evening, one manager came up to me and asked me how my (1) beer was and if I could drive home (in front of my 9 year old daughter and 6 year old nephew). The kids were really upset about it. Do yourself a favor and go to 40+ other far far superior establishments in this town that are cleaner, that run a more efficient business and are friendlier to their own staff and to their clients. One of the worst Japanese restaurants I have been to. Started with waiting 10 minutes for the waitress to acknowledge that I was seated. Finally she took my drink order. Got my water and 10 minutes later she comes back and asked if I was ready to order. I ordered the hibachi steak and a roll and a glass of wine. She brought out my meal and I had to ask if I could get the wine I ordered. Half way through my meal my roll arrived. The fried rice had a lighter fluid taste to it and the vegetables were just like they have been boiled and then thrown onto the grill to heat up. Very disappointing meal. read more

This was my wife's and my first time having dinner at Tako Yaki. It's an older Japanese type teppanyaki-style restaurant; they call it hibachi-style. You can eat around the grill or in the dining room. The restaurant clearly has seen a better day. It's pretty rough around the edges...could use some upgrading. My wife had the salmon dinner and I had the yakisoba (grilled noodles) w/shrimp. Both dinners cost $21 plus tax. If you're interested in cheap and plentiful, this place will work for you. If, though, you want quality, good taste and nourishing, I'd pass. Try Benihana or its equivalent instead in Chattanooga. There was a pretty good crowd there, so it has a following. Oh, and if they have a birthday there, there's a lot of loud noise and drum banging. Pretty distracting. read more

This is a review of the dine-in sushi, not the hibachi grill. My friends rave about the half price sushi on Sunday and Monday. My boyfriend and I have went here 2 times before and they were closed both times. They have very strange hours and are closed during midday. They were very busy but we were seated right away. We waiting quite a bit for our sushi. One of my rolls was not what I ordered. I blame the paper they have you write on. It says "Spicy tuna or Salmon" instead of "Spicy Tuna or Spicy Salmon". So I was instead given a plain Salmon roll even though its a separate menu item. The spicy tuna roll that my boyfriend ordered had cucumbers in it, which I've never seen in any spicy tuna or spicy salmon roll I've ever had. The worst part was discovering the shrimp in my not-so-crunchy "super crunch" roll was not properly cleaned and had a poop vein throughout the entire roll. The end of the roll was just the shrimp tail, not very appetizing. By the time we were finished we were the only ones left in the dining room, yet we waiting far too long for our check, even though there were about 10 employees walking around. I prefer Fulin's or Kumo's sushi, this place just couldn't match their quality (hence the cheap prices). I might come back for their hibachi grill but don't plan on it.
