Great location, great service, and always good food. Sushi bar is tasty and fresh while the grill chefs put on quite the show. Food's so good even the kids love it! Sometimes it gets crowded on days they do their roll specials (Sunday and Monday) so get there early or plan ahead!

A discount of 10% off showed up on my phone... as is shown on the website for the restaurant. Yay me!! I was not expecting it so, awesome sauce... When I asked the server about it, he and the manager said, "this does not apply for you, sorry. This is only for military." I see nothing that says, "military" on the discount. I love my military and am ex-Navy but do not carry my DD214 around in my pocket... so, boo-yah on me. The sushi chef and the food = amazing. The service was only so-so if that. We had to ask the server 3 times for a set of chopsticks and a 2nd cup for the saki. The 1st bottle of saki was finished with my wife and I taking turns in the same cup before finally getting them.

Haven't rated my fav restaurant in a while, but I heard about a rating they received which was unfounded!!! I have been eating here for years. I love their food. Other restaurants in the area have had foreign objects in my food! Mostly without apology. I have never ever experienced that at Tako Yaki! The staff is super friendly. Food is always the same...great!!! They give you a lot, which of course, my husband loves. Best sweet tea in town. They never let my cup run dry. They bring extra napkins without being asked. The manager explained what happened with the review when we asked. Ridiculous circumstances! He is great. The most hard working conscientious restaurant manager I have ever met. I am gluten intolerant and they make me a special plain meal every time, but they also have gluten free soy sauce available! We eat here twice per week. Just completely remodeled and very clean inside. You have to try this place!!! If you are avoiding due to the news, ignore those sensationalists, ridiculous! They are just trying to make a story someone cares about! Why would trust a reporter these days? Find out for yourself. Sorry I thought about taking the pics after we had eaten some! Hahaha I forgot I just had sushi here last Sunday. It was great! I even mistakenly ordered some that had gluten and Joon, the manager, came by and said, "Don't eat that it might have wheat in the mock crab!" He knows I can't eat wheat. He checked the ingredients and sure enough it had wheat in it! I didn't know and he remade it for me!!! They are the best!

Dinning room if you order from kitchen verses eating at hibachi.
    Gary N.

Been here several times over the years and always enjoyed the food. My latest visit was no different. We were able to get seated as soon as we arrive, which was great as they were many waiting on hibachi seating. We chose the dinning room. Our drink order came quickly and we placed our order. All is well, the salad and soup came quick. Then the first of three birthday, drum pounding parade started. A loud banging on pots and drums so loud you can't here or talk in the place. Too much over kill. I'm sure some with kids will enjoy it but way to much to march in and bang your way back to the kitchen. Service started ok but went down hill after the food arrive. Had to wait for drink refills and a long time to every get our check. We were in no hurry so I just sat back to see how long before they came around. Over 10 minutes after finishing. Even with all of that, I am sure I will be back, just not a frequent visitor.

Came in and sat at a hibachi grill. Ordered even got sushi. Finished eating sushi, salad and soup. They cleared the table and we were expecting the chef to come out. 5 minutes later they decide to sit 3 more people. Waited on them to get their soup and salad. They finished eating. Again expecting chef. Been sitting at the table over 30 minutes and they decide to sit 3 more people. I tell the hostess that we have been here for 30 minutes and ask if we are really going to have to wait another 15 minutes for them to order before the chef comes out? She says yes. I will never be back and we usually come once a month. I am so upset at how they could careless about their customers time. I have written this whole post, going on 50 minutes of waiting on a chef and still nothing.

    44. California Roll

I used to go here a lot and really enjoyed it, but I never tried their sushi. I ordered take out and got a spicy California roll and a regular California roll. I was very disappointed with the quality of the food. The sushi is simply just not good. The spicy California roll had red hot sauce instead of wasabi or spicy mayo. Each piece was made with soggy wet tasteless Nori. I also found a small bug on the top of the hot sauce On one of my rolls, very clearly there if anyone had taken a second to check it (it is in the photo on the lid of the container). I tried two pieces, and ended up spitting both out as the flavor was just not present. For five dollars, I guess this is what you get, but I definitely expected more from a Japanese style restaurant. This was utterly disappointing.

Our starter: Cauliflower wings (with all 3 sauces, because our lovely server Yassy saw that we were having a hard time deciding on one). Delicious flavor and excellent texture. I was really impressed with how the breading held its shape & stayed bonded to the cauliflower. That's hard to do! The portion size was massive, so we had enough to take home and give to my dad, who really enjoyed them even without the sauce. Our main: Lion's mane mushroom steak. We mentioned that we'd be splitting this entree, so they brought it out already plated on 2 separate plates, with an extra portion for each of us so it felt like we each got a full meal! That kind of generosity is rare in a restaurant. And the food was delicious on top of that. The "steak" was impressively meaty and flavorful, the glaze was tangy and sweet, the Brussels sprouts were crisped to perfection, and the mashed potato just hit the spot. Our dessert: Grand Marnière Chocolate Mousse. Absolutely EXQUISITE. The flavor, texture, and portion were all perfect. No notes LOL. BIG shout-out to our lovely server Yassy for her friendliness and helpfulness! She even offered to take a photo of us when I told her that my bestie was visiting from NY and had never been to TN before! Give her a raise!

We were back in town and ordered the Nibble Board in addition to other food. I don't know what happened, my guess is they ran out of what was needed to make this item. Our meat on the board was 2 slices of bacon (!) and summer sausage. There were no olives. In their place were grapes, several of those were over ripened. The nuts were walnuts which I am assuming are used on the salads. It was a stark contrast to what we had gotten before. My advice would be to ask what's on the board before ordering. Our other food was good, but not great. We'll chalk it up to an off night, but not sure we will return. The lady who checked our order was kind and made sure that we had everything before leaving, so that was good!

Usually the amount of seasoning on my steak indicates covering very low quality. It wasn't priced low vs competition. We had a child's dinner at the table for medium steak tips. They came out raw to medium. I was not comfortable letting it be consumed. Took quite awhile to get waitresses attention.. and the only offer was to put them back on the grill. I'm not a fan given cooks are usually not pleased with a kicked back steak. This dinner took way too long to get the meals and then the bill. I'm sure someone will say why didn't you talk to the manager.. what manager? One did not make themselves known in the establishment and having to return a child's steak should be prompt enough a boss figure to appear.

My wife and I tend to share an appetizer and a main most times when we dine out. We started out with the stuffed piquillo peppers and they did not disappoint! If you are a fan of goat cheese you will love these too. The sweetness of the pepper with the tang of balsamic coupled with the smooth taste of the goat cheese is almost to die for! We then shared the Pimento burger with fries and those too were outstanding! The burger is not overwhelmingly big, but big enough for two to share. The fries were absolutely delish! The service was good as well. I don't remember anything over-the-top outstanding but these days, decent service might actually qualify as over-the-top relative to what you see at most establishments! Not "tell your mama about it" good, but solid, dependable, "yep, I'd order that again" good. Prices didn't make you feel like you'd just financed somebody's boat, either. Beer was cold--like it ought to be, like it better be--and the waitress understood to be there exactly when we needed her and vanishing when we didn't. That's an art form. And that, right there, is about the highest praise you can give a place without writing a love letter to the chef.

He did clarify that Thursday and Friday are their big specials day, and I think because they have alcohol specials on those days. If I'm wrong, then perhaps someone from the restaurant could reply and correct me. There seems to be some outdoor seating available, but I opted to eat inside. Regarding the bathroom, it's a public bathroom with 1 urinal and 1 stall that provides paper towels. The condition was fine, the paper towel dispenser was empty and paper towels had to be gotten from the roll that was on top of the dispenser. It would have been nice if someone had just put the roll in the dispenser. For my entrée, I ordered the Chamorro En Mole, which took about 28 minutes to arrive. The lengthy prep time could be only for certain menu items, as it seemed food orders for other customers came in a timely manner. Still, had I not brought my Steam Deck to play, I would probably have been more upset with how long the food took. They do give free chips and salsa, so if you come hungry and order something with a lengthy prep time, you at least get a free snack while you wait. As for the food itself, the house salad that comes with the Chamorro En Mole seemed to be comprised of grated carrot, onion, diced tomato, lettuce, spinach, and cheese and came with ranch dressing on the side. The salad did taste fresh though and not like it had been sitting out. As for the Chamorro itself, the mashed potatoes tased just like potatoes. I don't think they mix anything into them since they're served with osso bucco and sauce on top of them. The osso bucco itself was thankfully moist and tasty. I had never hade mole sauce before, and while I wasn't taken by it on my first bite, the more of it I ate, the more I liked it. As for spice level, there was a hint of spiciness to it, but I'd say its barely there. For dessert, I went with the Chocolate Overload, which is a slice of chocolate cake with whipped cream. That only took 4 minutes and 39 seconds to arrive. The whipped cream was light, and the cake itself was indeed very chocolatey, so I enjoyed it. When I got the receipt for my bill, I noticed that they don't list the specific things you order, which I wish they did to help verify the cost of the meal. As a general summary of my experience, despite the lengthy food prep time and the paper towel roll not being in the dispenser in the bathroom, I still left satisfied with my dinner and am willing to give it another try. Last thing I'll mention is that if you eat here for your birthday, they will sing happy birthday to you and offer you a free dessert.

As a high level chef of sorts, I have high expectations especially knowing the market price of ingredients. The focaccia with olive oil was good but the oil deserves some seasoning to elevate it.
