My wife and I have seen this restaurant several times but never stopped here because I thought it was a grocery store from the Name of Poppyseed Market. We discovered it when we had to take our dog to Bay Leaf Vet for some tests. While waiting I went in to check it out and I was pleasantly surprised. Their menu was quite extensive with a dinner menu that was just as surprising. Because of our dog we ordered to take out. It was a little on the high side but you get what you pay for at Poppyseed Market. I ordered a tuna salad sandwich and it is the first time in a long time that I could really taste the tuna. The sandwich consisted of tuna salad, lettuce and a tomato, I also had home made potato chips and a pickle, all very good. My wife ordered a BLT which she loved, it had enough bacon for two sandwiches and she also had lettuce, tomato and home made chips and pickle. The sandwiches were very large and declivous. So I finally tried this place for dinner and had to add on to my previous review. Five of us arrived at 7 pm on a Thursday night and the place was fairly full. We had to wait about 20 minutes then were seated. Our waitress promptly brought us waters. We ordered wine and cocktails. I had wine but friend's cocktail looked yummy. For my meal I ordered the ahi tuna. It was truly some of the best I've ever had -- very flavorful entree. Everyone ordered something different and they all looked fantastic. They also brought us some yummy looking bread although I didn't eat it since I'm gluten free. Altogether a lovely dinner with friends with great service. read more

What a wonderful little cafe and wine bar. Although it is tucked away in the corner of a strip mall, it doesn't necessarily feel like your sitting in such a busy shopping area. The outdoor seating is vast, it comes with music and shaded tables to keep you cool, as well as tables for those who enjoy a little extra heat. Of course on a such a lovely day we chose not to dine inside, although if you would like a glimpse of the delicious food they prepare, a walkthrough the deli never hurts. If your not salivating after looking at their lasagna behind the glass, I don't know what to tell ya. Based on what I saw when we arrived, I just knew the wine list was going to impress me and it definitely did that. We stopped in for lunch and were greeted by the welcoming employees. We ordered our sandwiches and picked a seat. I of course could not resist a chicken salad sandwich. What a cute little cafe. We stopped by for lunch on a Thursday at around noon. It was crowded but we didn't have a problem finding a place to sit. You order at the counter. The staff was friendly and helpful. I am somewhat of a Reuben connoisseur. I love a good Reuben and I have eaten them at many different restaurants. Of course, I got the reuben ! The inside ingredients were top notch. One of the saddest ways to ruin a reuben - soggy bread. The bottom of the sandwich was soggy. So sad. Nothing else to say. Hubby had the Cuban - it was in the "special" board. It was pretty good. He enjoyed it. He also liked the homemade chips that are served with their sandwiches. I though they were MEH..... We came here once ten years ago and now again when we happened to be in the area, and had the same experience. Could barely order off this menu as a vegetarian. In ten years that hasn't expanded even though it has increased as a food trend? Strangely few options and inflexible in adaptations. If you have a baked potato, please make one without meat. Even Wendy's has one. If you have quiche, please make one without meat. Even groceries have these. These are vegetarian go-to's. Overpriced *to the extreme.* We paid $25 for two reheated chunks of pasta. No drinks. No sides. Just deep-dish squares heated up from the deli case to go. The $10 adult mac n cheese was....wow. Kind of shocking. The sauce had separated with the reheating and it fell apart in the box and was like bad leftovers. Stouffer's frozen would be better, and a great deal less costly. So if you're vegetarian, you're probably better off at Village Deli, Sassoul, Zest Cafe... My guess is that if you eat meat, you can order from the rest of the menu and it has more value. They have outdoor seating and we did spot a group quite enjoying themselves with a nice wine selection and cafe lighting. It was a pleasant atmosphere. For us, it is just not a good option unless it becomes a bit more 'omnivore' friendly. read more

The pimento cheese topped 1/2 pound cheese burger was amazing however; the downside to the meal is they serve cold homemade potato chips with ranch dressing on the side! I asked the waitress for hot potato chips and she said that this is how they are served! Can you imagine cold greasy chips? To her credit, she did offer me " warm" fries. My husband did enjoy his salad and asparagus, as a side. Great lunch spot in North Raleigh. I met friends here for an early lunch and we were able to beat the crowds. By the time we left the place was pretty packed. They have a selection of deli salads and items like quiche and lasagna and then a menu board filled with sandwiches. My friend loves the turkey club and gets it every time. I went with the veggie sandwich with herb cream cheese and I enjoyed it. It was chock full and I only finished half. The homemade potato chips did not disappoint-- perfectly crisp and salty. Come here very often it's a small market but does have ample seating. A wide variety of hot and cold sandwiches and other options as well. I love that they offer many different bread options such as multigrain and wraps and gluten free options as well. After reading the Yelp reviews, decided to head down to Poppyseed. My husband loves a good deli and I thought he'd like to try this for lunch. We were a bit confused when we entered as there were people dining, so we asked if we should seat ourselves. We were told that you place your order at front, get a number and sit. Very similar to Showmar's setup. I have to be honest, I thought there would be a number of salads to choose from - there weren't. I opted for the quiche of the day with a salad. Hubby chose the chicken/tuna/egg salad combo with chips. I added one chicken tender at the last minute ;) We picked a spot and both commented on the nice decor. While waiting on our food, we both used the restroom. Wow. There is an overwhelming smell of sewer fumes with a touch of citrus air freshener - unfortunately, the air freshener doesn't cover the bad smell well enough. Our food was served relatively quickly. I did not care for the quiche, too little ham and broccoli in the mix. It was a huge portion but too much egg and not enough good stuff. My salad was delicious. I could eat that all day long! My chicken tender was yummy, too. $2.85 for one chicken tender is crazy, though. Hubby liked his salad trio but we both felt that each one was way too salty. His chips were good. It's quick and efficient and the bartender is great when you sit at the bar. It's a little dark inside and on the quieter side. The food.... Let me tell you... the garlic Parmesan pommes frites are heavenly!! A whole order will take you out and you need at least 5 people for it but it's so worth it. I always get the turkey club and it's so good but this last time I got the fried chicken blt salad and their ranch is so good and the salad is just amazing. This is a great place to go for a quick bite. Seating both inside and outside. It's very busy at lunch time. I went for my second time. I ordered the spiedie sandwich. Coming from the home of the spiedie it's not actually left. That being said it was just good. . I would say the chicken spiedie was a little dry and the bread was ok. I've been to Poppyseed many a time for lunch, and every time it's fantastic with tons of options. Just recently I decided to try them for dinner since their menu always looks so fresh. We were able to get a lovely little table "under the tree" outside early on a Monday evening. They have a pretty good selection of draft beers, a lot of them local to NC, and they also have wine and cocktails. After ordering some IPAs, we started with some pimento cheese hush puppies - one of their specials - oh my goodness they were so perfectly crispy on the outside and light and fluffy on the inside. Maybe battered in tempura? Then in the bottom of the dish they had maple syrup and a few pickled jalapeños to create the perfect bite of salty, sweet and spicy. I easily could've eaten 50 of these. I opted for pizza as my entree after seeing a picture of the Tipsy Pig. The pizza was delicious with a crispy thin crust, and the vodka sauce created an interesting flavor. Our waitress recommended adding arugula if that's your preference. My boyfriend got the goat cheese pizza which was also super tasty. Decided to try Poppyseed Market on a recent weeknight. They bill themselves as a gourmet deli. There is an active "to go" area with display cases filled with entrees, and then seating area in 2 rooms. Perhaps because I was there at dinnertime, it didn't seem very deli-like. There's a legitimate menu with a variety of choices - most not what I would consider deli fare. For appetizers, we tried crispy prosciutto wrapped mozzarella and jalapeno cornbread. This prep for mozzarella is interesting, unique and delicious. The prosciutto is crisped up so each bit crunches against the smooth creaminess of the cheese. It's plated in sweet marinara sauce with a few slices of crisp bread. Good stuff. The jalapeno cornbread was ok - I prefer my cornbread a little sweeter - but this was nice and moist, with bits of jalapeno baked in to give each bite a little heat. We had two different varieties of tacos - brisket and blackened fish. Ingredients are different for each. The fish tacos featured blackened tilapia, cilantro sour cream, pineapple salsa, jalapeño pesto on a bed of arugula. The fish was fresh, nicely portioned and blackened right - not too spicy but enough heat to enhance the flavor. The salsa, cream and pesto melded nicely to add a creamy flavor and texture to offset the fish. The brisket tacos consist of beer braised brisket, roasted corn salsa, pepper-jack cheese, avocado crema, also on a bed of arugula. The brisket is fork-tender and savory, complemented well with the sweet roasted corn salsa. Will try this place again to sample some of the other things on the menu. Maybe lunch next time, to see what it's like during what I suspect is the busier time of their day. read more
