This place is a hidden gem. I didn't realize Columbus had any mom and pop chili spots. I thought only Cincinnati had those! But this place is tucked away from the road in an office building. I think they cater to a lunch crowd, but they're open until 8pm on weeknights, so we stopped in around 7:30. Their whole menu is assembly food - burritos, chili dogs, 3-ways etc., and it came out quick and hot! The hot sauce took it to the next level. They make their own hot sauce with Talita's recipe, and her son is the owner. He took good care of us during our visit. They also have a mission statement posted by the door. I love that Talita's is about more than a quick bite. I would describe the atmosphere as "break room", but I was charmed by the owner and his OSU and military memorabilia. I ordered a burrito filled with shredded chicken, refried beans and cheese. I had queso sauce on top and it was delicious. I needed to get a to go container because it was huge. My husband had a beef burrito with the red sauce and a coney on the side. All of the food was delicious. Order at the counter and they will bring the food out to you. The owner is Frankie and he is a Marine Corps veteran. He is super friendly and will come around and talk to you. So this is a strange little spot. Firstly, it's in a weird office park type building, but I'm not one to judge so quickly... Inside is strange. Another Yelper said it felt like an office break room and that's very accurate. A handful of tables, OSU memorabilia on one wall and maybe family photos and pro-military things on another wall. The (presumed) owner is talkative and friendly, but almost overwhelmingly so. Like "hand on your shoulder" small town restaurant kind of friendly. That's cool for some people but not all people. The food was served in plastic to-go dishes with plastic cutlery which is wild. I got a chicken burrito smothered in queso and it was good cheap Tex Mex. It reminded me of Don Pablo's (for all my other olds.) It's not the worst I've ever had, but I can't see myself going out of my way to try it again anytime soon. This location is occasionally along my errand path, and today I just made a point to stop in. It's very small inside; super friendly service. A small menu. I hadn't tried the chili on its own so I got that, since it was a cold day, and I wasn't super hungry. Good chili, meaty, not soupy. Served with cheese on top, and oyster crackers on the side. Accidentally stumbled upon this really tiny Columbus gem while in the area for a suit turned into a really pleasant surprise. Wanted a quick bite for lunch, walked in and felt like I stepped back in time! I took a seat to review the menu and could tell there was so much history on the walls! The business has been serving since 1968, which was really impressive to stay open that long especially for a small restaurant such as this. Up front, we were greeted by a really pleasant older gentleman who I believe has worked there for over 30 years. We ordered the coneys, and they tasted just like I'd imagine homemade coneys would - simply tasty! We couldn't get over how nice and positive the gentleman was, and my fiance wants me to mention in this review that she wants to put the cute older guy in her pocket and carry him around. I started visiting Talita's in the early '70's and my indulgence exploded when Franky had his shop on Karl Rd. I am probably one of the few that has been to every Talita's location, yep, I'm old. I continue to enjoy the Tex-Mex fare and almost always get a beef, bean and rice burrito smothered in enchilada sauce with beans and rice on the side...and a don't forget the corn nacho! I've lived in Columbus for 22 years, and in that time the Hispanic food offerings on tap have increased greatly in both number and quality. I'd long heard the name "Talitas" but did't have the displeasure of ordering until just last night. I ordered via Grubhub, and though the delivery service was great, this was the absolute worst Mexican food I have had since moving to Columbus and quite possibly the worst Mexican food I've had ever. I don't know how it's possible to make a chicken and cheese burrito so flavorless, even with piling on red sauce and cheddar cheese. I could not detect any spices used to flavor this burrito other than the spicy red sauce. Even after smothering this in sour cream it was mostly inedible. We also ordered a side of rice and beans and queso and chips, which I thought would be a solid bet. The chips were half stale and I'm pretty sure that no queso dip should have a plasticky aftertaste that makes you wish you had some lye on hand to drown out the aftertaste. The rice and beans were the least abhorrent part of the entire meal, which means to say they were merely lackluster. Talitas, you have some serious competition in Columbus now, with fantastic Hispanic food options all over the city. There is no excuse for food this awful. read more

This is a very small place that chances are you might have to take your food to go and eat in the car. There's only 4-5 tables and the place is non stop, especially on call in orders. I have passed Talitas many times, every time I pass I always say one day I will pop in well last weekend I did, it's located in the most unusual location it's in an office complex. Talita's, where have you been all my life? Seven years since moving to Ohio from California, and finally... finally... I've found a place that tastes like home. Enchilada sauce is deep, complex, and balanced. Queso is on point. Beans perfect. Spanish rice perfect.
