Stunning, amazing, everything about it great. Views were gorgeous, views from room gorgeous. On site food was wonderful. Fireplace cozy. They let you borrow tubes for kids and snow shoes for hiking. I have to brag on the staff: friendly from the start. The older lady at the front desk so friendly to us, we had great conversation. The lady in the gift shop, super friendly. One of the managers Amanda heard our teen didn't have snow bibs so she went to her own home and let us borrow theirs. This is over the top. I look forward to staying here again. read more

I spent a night at the Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge during a recent tour of Alaska. The lobby was top notch! It had a beautiful patio that looked out onto Denali National Park! It's simply gorgeous and the grounds were immaculately maintained! The lobby provided ample seating around a fire place and had rocking chairs that looked out onto the mountains. I can't say enough about the gorgeous views! The restaurant was lovely as were the staff. The menu provided great options. I was not tremendously impressed with my actual hotel room. My room was in one of the smaller buildings on the other side of the property. The view looked out onto a grass field (I wish I could have had a view of Denali). My room was odd with a bed very low to the floor. It worked ok for me but my parents who are older could never have gotten out of the bed. The room provided for all my needs but was nothing impressive, compared to the amazing lodge lobby! There are very few places to stay in Talkeetna, Alaska and I would not discourage anyone from staying at the Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge. read more

We stayed at the Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge through an ABD Alaskan tour. The best way I can describe this place is as a very clean Motel 6 with beautiful surroundings. The rooms have no A/C and are stuffy despite fans. The in-room furnishings are all cheap wood and Formica, circa 1990, which was very unexpected given the hype. However, it was clean, and despite the heat, the beds and pillows were comfortable. The worst aspect was the customer service in the restaurant. The female Indian hostess at Base Camp Bistro provided possible the worst customer service I have ever experienced. She immediately asked us to sit in the lobby or at the bar to "help the servers." Readers, there were over a dozen empty tables in the restaurant, with most guests being seated in the lobby or at the high bar tables. We declined and asked to sit in the restaurant. She then was obviously annoyed with us, and gestured to a table immediately behind the hostess stand. Again, we asked to be sat further back in the restaurant where there were many many empty tables. At this point, a kind waiter intervened and directed us to a better table. The hostess told us our breakfast vouchers were only good for the buffet (which was not true), and the buffet had not been replenished at 8am, with most of the dishes only 15-25% full. The waitstaff were lovely, but this hostess should be retrained or fired. Others in our tour group also remarked at how poorly they were treated by her, with one couple describing an argument with her for trying to order off the menu after the restaurant manager had told them it was fine to do so. This couple was so shocked at the hostess' aggressive reaction that they just ignored her after that. So, to sum it all up, this hotel is really the only game in town so a lot of their custom comes from tour groups or folks that just want the best option in the area. The lobby is nice, with a general "lodge" feel, but the rooms are cheap, un-themed and shabby. It's clean, but that's the highest recommendation i can give. For the price, I would avoid. read more

First impression was WOW! What a view! Picture perfect. We were fortunate to be here on a cloudless day and the view of the mountain ridge was ideal. The lobby was beautiful with its grand fireplace with ample seating around. Staff was very friendly. Food in Base Camp Bistro was delicious. The convenience of having luggage picked up from train station, delivered to room, and then returned again to train station was much appreciated. Also the convenience of the shuttle to town was nice. Pillows were comfortable. Now the cons: For having such a fabulous outdoor patio, and encouragement of enjoying the view, few seats except a few benches were available. Rooms are dated, old. Layout of room is terrible. Few outlets to plug in electronics. Bathroom layout was old school. The shower head was so short you have to be a contortionist to get top of head wet. Dispensers for body soap empty. Only one of the three windows actually open. We were here when temperatures were actually high and it was quite warm in room. No air conditioning. They do provide small fans though, which we used. They do not provide any bottled water in room. Carpet was old. Should be replaced. My allergies definitely reacted. I understand this is one of the nicest properties in Talkeetna, but for the condition, the price of room was outrageous. I don't mind paying higher price, if it is warranted. And one thing to note, which hotel cannot control... mosquito must be their state bird. Come prepared. In the words of my husband, "this place is a dump. Would never stay here again." read more

Very old and tattered property. It's clean and has a few restaurants but they are definitely pricey. They do provide shuttle services to downtown which has some restaurants and stores. Unfortunately it was very cloudy and rainy so we were unable to see their view of Denali which would have been nice. This lodge is: - Very beautiful - Very generic - Very touristy - Very expensive (for the area) Very beautiful: easily the best views of Denali from any lodging option in Talkeetna. Very generic: this feels very much like a cookie-cutter, corporate-owned "nice" place to stay. It's lacking in originality and character. To get that amazing view, you are 2 miles from downtown Talkeetna and you don't really feel like you are "part of the action" more like you are cloistered away behind a walled garden. Very touristy: lots of Alaska kitsch, lots of things and "experiences" to pay money for. Very expensive: rooms run in mid-200's to the mid-300's. Is this expensive for a hotel in Alaska? Not really. Is it expensive for lodging in Talkeetna? Absolutely. So, with all this negativity, why am I still giving them 4 stars? A few reasons: the view of Denali from my actual ROOM was insane. About as picturesque as you could imagine. I didn't pay full price for it. I came up to Talkeetna for a homebrew club competition and was able to get a steep discount. I paid less than 200/night to stay here and, for that price, it is absolutely worth it! read more

Normally in the middle of summer we'd never be able to get a last minute reservation here, but due to Covid, we took advantage of the lack of out-of-state tourists and made an impulse trip up to Talkeetna. We booked through Booking.com, but when we arrived they could not find our reservation, which worked out just fine for us because they gave us an addtional $25 discount. The grounds of the hotel are impressive. The patio and the view of Denali are beautiful. It would be the perfect location for a small wedding. There's also a small outdoor veranda with a fireplace that does not have a view of Denali that would also be a nice place for a wedding or small reception. The great room of the hotel is a nice place to relax by the fireplace in one of the rocking chairs that look out on Denali while sipping on a latte from the coffee bar. The rooms are pretty standard and could frankly use a bit of an upgrade. They are seriously lacking in outlets. There are no USB ports- so pack accordingly. They do not provide pens or paper either. The rooms do have a mini fridge and hair dryer though. If you plan to walk the grounds I HIGHLY recommend you bring bug spray as the mosquitos are VICIOUS. We tried the breakfast sandwich offerings from the coffee bar and I can recommend the bacon ones... Nathan said the sausage ones were comparatively not nearly as good. The coffee was excellent. We didn't try the restaurant since the prices are, like all hotel restaurants, high. The hotel does have patio dining which was tempting. We opted to drive in town to Talkeetna for dinner, but be mindful that because of Covid the offerings are limited, so the hotel restaurant is a good option if you're willing to pay their prices. read more

Amazing views!!! Cannot stress that enough. The place looks great and the staff is so helpful and curteous. The food at the restaurant was super and the service matched. BUT!!!...the mosquitos are an issue. We walked into our room for the first time and they had already made themselves at home. Nearly impossible to get them all out before we went to bed. They were also an ever present guest with us at dinner. And on the beautiful back patio and lookout. The facility should put some thought into a remedy to keep guests more comfortable within the insect world here. One last note, as we lay in bed here around midnight in mid June...blackout curtains are most useful if they actually block out all of the ambient light. The short curtains here let plenty of light in to be able to apply makeup. read more

Well this was the nicest hotel we stayed in during our entire trip and only got to stay here one night. But it was very nice! The rooms were comfortable and unlike other hotels there was a lot of space for our big group to convene and hang out. The restaurant and cafe there was really convenient. The lodge is a hidden gem! The lobby is warm and comfortable with a large fireplace, friendly staff and plenty of space throughout for games or relaxing. The view is spectacular and there is a large outdoor space to eat or enjoy drinks. There is a free shuttle to town as well as free bikes to use. The bar and grill serve great good with an attentive staff and an even better bar tender...AJ was the best! We were here for a wedding and it was a spectacular spot for such a special event. It would be great for a family vacation too. The room was clean, reasonably appointed with a lovely view. Due to CoVid the food offered was limited but delicious!! The breakfast buffet was simple and satisfying, at night we enjoyed "basecamp burgers" with truffle fries (really delicious highly recommended) in the rocking chairs watching as sun set and Denali faded from view. It was a peaceful moment with delicious food. The staff--who seems to do a bit of everything at all hours-- are helpful and kind. I highly recommended this lodge as an addition to your Alaskan vacation or as a great place out of which to base multiple day trips (hikes, boat trips, plane tours) and front desk can help you with these reservation too. read more

This lodge is amazing. The exterior design fits the landscape in rural Talkeetna, Alaska. The interior has a huge lobby with a large bank of windows with views of Mount Denali (when weather permits). It was hidden in clouds when I was here. The lodge has a large rear deck for viewing the landscape and their Base Camp Bistro has outdoor dining. The fish and chips were great. The room was nicely done in light knotty wood furniture. Also there are hiking trails. I would definitely recommend it to anyone traveling up Parks Highway in Alaska. read more

Food prices were pretty high--tea, soda, and food for 2 was about $30. They were out of or just hasn't made several menu items--disappointing. I have mixed feelings about this lodge. It's beautiful. Our room was ample and the view we had of Denali from our room was top notch. There are many opportunities here. You can get bikes, there are rocking chairs inside, a nice fireplace, walking trails, and dining. Our wait staff was always overly accommodating and everyone we encountered that worked there was exceptionally nice and helpful. What I didn't like was that you feel trapped. There is a shuttle to downtown that runs 10:00-5:45. So pretty much, you're stuck there for breakfast and dinner. We ate at the bistro more times than I'd like, but the halibut in Thai curry was so amazing, multiple family members ordered it multiple times. Dining was expensive too...and keep you mind you need to make reservations for the other restaurant days in advance. This is why we ended up at the bistro for all our meals. There's much to like here, but maybe run that shuttle longer to give people options. I know that doesn't make sense financially for them, though. read more

This is an amazing property/ resort in the small hamlet ( population 100!) of Alaska. This incredible destination resort serves as a rest stop for cruise passengers and independent travelers and has world Class service, a couple of excellent dining options, an outdoor deck with amazing views of the Alaska range, including Denali. Rooms are spacious and comfortable and staff are pleasant and eager to help. There is an outdoor fire pit for S'mores, a walking trail and another massive fireplace indoors in the main lobby. The lucky ones will spot a moose or bear in the adjacent birch/pine forest. If you find yourself anywhere in the area, a stop here will definitely not disappoint. read more

The lodge was part of our tour with Tauck a high end tourist group while in Alaska. The lodge has no air conditioning or air flow for that matter, shoddy rooms with tiny tv and shower in disrepair but to top it all, the fancy restaurant, Foraker, that charge $65 per some dishes, takes 1.5 hours to get a simple order. Full of excuses and claiming being understaffed, they'll take your money and order, and then make you wait over 90 minutes for what would be a normal dish in any restaurant. Adding insult to injury, the lodge is a dump that only gets business cause of location proximity. Do not go there, unless you want to pay for overpriced meals and no air circulation and dirty rooms. It's not about COVID staffing, it's about horrible service and marked up insult to any tourist above motel 6. read more

Not a bad thing to say about this lodge. I hope everyone gets the views we witnessed. We ate at all the restaurants. The Foraker restaurant was the fanciest but the service was excellent. At the bistro, we went in late at night just for dessert. Several guests reported seeing moose on the property. I can't imagine staying anywhere else when visiting. We were picked up at the lodge for all our excursions and checked bikes out to ride into town one evening. Splurge for the room with a view. Visiting in the summer, the days last forever. Gorgeous view of Denali! This Lodge is beautiful too, and we'll maintained. It was a pretty smooth transition from the train depot. They were able to move our luggage from train to our room directly. They accidentally also moved someone else's luggage to our room too but it got straightened out. They also provided our two rooms with pack n plays. Staff are nice, made our room priority. We got in on the 11 am train and check in wasn't until 3 pm so waited until the room was ready, which was about 1 pm. The lobby is equipped with a coffee and snack station so my kids didn't starve We ate our snacks and had a beer on the deck and enjoyed the view. The gift shop is cute. Even has qivuit products! This is the way to go if you're traveling with babies and toddlers to "see" Denali, as you have ready access to essentials and it's very comfortable and relaxing here. read more

I have never stayed at this lodge, but when I am in Talkeetna I always make sure to come and have lunch here. They have a beautiful deck that has expansive views of Denali and the surrounding mountains. The Talkeetna airport is between the lodge and the mountain so you can sit with a glass of wine, enjoying the sun and watching the planes come and go. I always get the seared tuna salad with a glass of white wine and it is perfect on a sunny day! On our last trip, my boyfriend and I shared the chocolate mousse, which was delicious. A very beautiful hotel. We had a large room that had an amazing view. I will admit, I may be a little bias because they did give my family a free upgraded room. One thing to know is that it can still get warm in Alaska and a lot of hotels do not have AC. This hotel is one of them. This seemed frustrating to some members of our group but it makes a lot of sense, with how cold it gets in the winter, the AC units would constantly be falling apart. Just open the window and you will get some cool breezes. I have seen some other reviews give low scores due to the price of food at the restaurants, while it is expensive I found that every restaurant in Alaska just had higher prices so this is not out of the norm. If you do eat at the restaurant, I recommend the beast burger, delicious. read more

It's nicely groomed grounds that welcome you up the 1/4 mile driveway. The place is very lodge looking and comfortable and welcoming. The rooms are huge even though they are a little outdated, but we are discovering all of Alaska is so far. It is very clean and comfortable. A negative is that there is a thermostat, but no vents and it's 70 degrees too hot in here. We couldn't sleep bec it was so hot, but I finally found a fan. Unfortunately, the big roomy king bed is not comfortable. There is a bull moose lurking somewhere according to their warning signs which is very exciting and we hope to see him. I really enjoyed staying at this lodge. The lodge is located about 5 minutes from the downtown Talkeetna area. They have a large lobby area with lots of comfy seating and a large stone fireplace. They have a coffee bar and two different restaurants, which ended up being very convenient after a spending several hours on the road. The food in the restaurant was really good. The coffee bar has pre-made lunches that you can purchase if you are going out on an all day excursion or hike. The hotel also has hiking trails around the hotel that you can take and they will provide you with a map with all the trails. The gift shop also has a large variety of gifts that you can purchase. The rooms were clean, spacious, and well kept. The lodge was rustic looking on the outside and modern on the inside. The viewing deck was amazing to go out on and take in the beautiful scenery of Alaska. The grounds were very well kept and you can tell that they put a lot of effort into maintaining this lodge. It really shows because this place looks beautiful! We enjoyed our stay and would recommend this for anyone looking for a nice place to stay in Talkeetna. read more

Not only is the lodge beautiful, has a wonderful and super helpful staff, their main restaurant is WONDERFUL for people who have to deal with multiple and severe food allergies. Their chef Wes came out of the kitchen, happily spoke with us directly and made an INCREDIBLY delicious and SAFE meal for our oldest son who has numerous and severe food allergies. A 2 minute conversation goes SO far when it comes to food allergies and Wes was a true STAR!!!!! He did the exact same thing on the second night of our stay as well. The lodge is just perfect!
