I used to love this place. In the last few years they've really lost their quality and charm. The service is almost always bad in more ways than one.. They are almost always out of several menu items when you go to order. Today they were out of clam chowder, hand cut fries, and coffee creamer. They didn't tell us when we ordered the coffee.They never list the prices for the soups anywhere either, you always have to ask. Their sign is up that the chicken fried steak is on sale today, but nope. They stopped selling their XL shake which was a favorite among locals. They got greedy with prices and don't include the fries with your burgers anymore but you pay about the same.The worst part is that they almost always "accidentally" over charge us and we have to call them out for it. Fairly expensive, the double cheeseburger was $14 alone. They do serve some massive burgers though, definitely a 1/2 lb of meat on that bad boy, dripping in almost too much grease and fat, but if that is what you crave, go to Tall Pine and enjoy! Cool spot. Decent food. The service is lacking. 2 of the 3 people working were teenagers. Friendly, but lacking the common sense to tend to customers. Cool atmosphere. Gives you the "old school" vibe with the raised platform bar area. Not much room to sit but we managed with our group size. Had to sit at different areas. The food was decently priced. The flavor was decent as well. Kids meals from $4-5.50 Spent $82 for 4 adult meals and 4 kids meals. And 2 shakes. Been looking for "the burger" you can always come back to ... still haven't found it with this place but it was enjoyable. The chili cheese fries were made with home made chili. The chili was lacking flavor and very bland, but they did a great job with assembly and the quantity. Tots and fries weren't anything special but were cooked well. The Pattie's in the burgers were obviously frozen store bought Pattie's but the bacon on the burgers was very flavorful. Was NOT impressed with the shakes either. Lacking something... couldn't out my finger on it Traveled 35 minutes to get here. Wouldn't do that again , but if I'm in the area, I may stop to grab a burger. read more

Service was terrible the young girl working was very rude and when I asked for sauce she was hesitant of giving me some. One of my meals had 8 tater tots which is insane with how high the prices are. WHHHAAAAHH??? ....CHICKEN FRIED STEAK DIP SANDWICH?!!! YES! ....And it was AWESOME! They even asked if we wanted country gravy (white) or brown gravy. Our family has ordered from this small establishment a few times, considering it's unique look, the food has not disappointed us and we have a couple picky eaters on our hands. My go to favorite is the BLT sandwich, yum! The other great thing is their ice cream cones are priced fairly and you get to choose between chocolate, vanilla or swirl. Customer service has been questionable but never exceeded to anything negative in my opinion. Their seating options are nice, you can sit indoor or outdoor and is close to the highway so you can easily get back to where you need to be. read more

The two who working today December 29th at approximately 3:40 were extremely rude and got all of our orders wrong and then then they had to fix them they also came back with an eye roll. I am sorry i know Barnies has note pads she could have probably used on and saver her self the inability to remember simple orders. she was a problem with filling up two cups of coffee. the menu said that that with the cod there is coctail sauce and it only took 10 minutes to get it. al requested lemon witch was never a problem before. was always a place i loved bring the family but if this is how bad the service is getting we definitely wont be coming back. read more

Today I went to this place there's not much in this town. The girl behind the counter was either new or just confused she kept asking the "chef" for help with different things and every time the chef would roll her eyes and stomp out to do the job "rude". Then I ordered a chef salad and a cup of prime rib stew at least the salad had decent greens in it ,in the "stew" I got two very small pieces of meat and all veggies this is veggie soup people with some beef flavor and very under seasoned I was disappointed to say the least. The chef person was also shoving fries into her mouth while I watched without stepping away and washing her hands!! Really!!! With all of the viruses we have floating around right now I don't want yours. GROSS!!!! The place looked clean except for the above mentioned practices. I'll take my business elsewhere. Came here May of '21 and got just soft serve ice cream which was so fluffy and delicious, we got a small and it was huge! Came back yesterday to try the food which was pretty tasty! The Hawaiian burger was so good. However they changed their ice cream, it's more of a froyo style and not what you'd ever expect as soft serve. The portions of the soft serve are tiny now. Was hugely disappointed. Whatever they did, they should undo it! Staff was young but friendly enough, wait time wasn't long at all. This place is a cute little gem in a small town. Asking one of the locals for a good place to eat they directed us here. The staff was so kind and helpful. Cindy, one of the waitresses even directed where to get fresh water for our rv. The food was fresh and well seasoned. When we're back in town again, we'll absolutely stop in. read more

The old tall pine tree still lives on in tables. They still have great service and food. Reminds me of a DQ restaurant without the Dilly Bars and Blizzards. But they have great milkshakes. Just what I need in this 90 degree weather. read more

I am really thankful for Tall Pine. It's the best in Pinehurst as far as quality of food goes. My one and only complaint is that 8 out of 10 times they messed up my order one way or another. If the orders we're right more often, I would give it 10 stars. read more

I should give it a 5 because even when something has been wrong, the owner makes it right. The struggle is real here in a small valley to find reliable help but she doesn't close down at random times, she works it herself instead. Very reasonable prices and family friendly. It's a bummer to see the fries have changed and hopefully that is short term because it's a summertime favorite..Tall Pine fries and a twist cone! Appreciate that it's still up and running and the owner is always responsive. We went immediately inside and ordered soft serve ice cream cones and they were good. I eyed the chicken strips someone was eating, they looked great. While eating our ice cream cones outside, we noticed the menu on the window and were wowed. Add-in's to milk shakes like malt balls, and so so many options. YUM. Prices were very reasonable. So, a day later we went back. Hubby got the bacon burger, for me, the chicken strips with fried zucchini. Everything was so fresh and hot, I had to wait for it to cool off. Our food was very very good - - and did I say fresh? We both ordered the huckleberry milk shake. So flavorful and refreshing. We were both sad our tummy's were full. All the good food was delivered by very hard working, efficient and friendly staff. The place is CLEAN! They were so busy, but we understood why. We are sad we live so far away. read more

Sadly, this is no longer the Talk Pine I knew growing up in Pinehurst. The Tall Pine burger costs $9.50!!! They used to have shredded lettuce and mayo. Not anymore! Big Bummer on the burgers. We came across this restaurant while driving through Idaho, and I am so glad we did! The burgers were hot, fresh and very flavorful, and the fries perfectly crispy. Try the Jerry's concoction milkshake if you want to experience heaven in a cup! This is Drive-In style food at its best. We found this place the usual way, looking through town for the parking lot filled with local plates. Although the look as you drive by may offend your urbane sensibilities, within you will find delicious hand made food for less than the cost of your supersized "value" meal. The place is clean, it looks like they've recently reupholstered the classic diner chairs and generally upgraded the interior. Great service. Killer shakes. Solid burgers. Absolutely the most horrible service I've ever had at any restaurant. A group of us arrived, I was the first to order. I ordered a simple burger (at my request, medium, not well done), fries and coke.. not rocket science. After a normal time, 15 minutes or so, they hollered out my name. I grabbed my bag through the window, and for $12, it was surprisingly light. Extremely light. As I walk over to my table, I discover.... There's no burger. I go back to the window, the girl accused me of taking the burger out. After explaining how could I have possibly done that when I didn't even get to my table, she takes my bag back (with my fries in it) and puts it on the counter. They take another 15 or so minutes...by this time, my friends are all done with their lunch waiting for me. They holler out my name again, put the burger in my bag WITH the fries that have now been sitting on their counter for 15 minutes. At this point, I'm pissed. $12... and this kind of service?? I very blunty asked, "You're not seriously going to give me back my cold, soggy fries are you?" And this girl looked me square in the eye and said if I didn't like them I could bring them back. At this point, I took one, and yep, cold and soggy, threw the bag back through the window and told her she could just keep them. And the burger was well done... not medium as I had request. I'm an older, grey haired, normally quite patient, individual.
