Family reunion, Tallent's sausage; Christmas, tallents sausages, man if its time to make some gumbo you had better make that trip and get some tallents sausage. Well it had been years since I made this trip to get some of them lovely links. I drove over there while leaving from a trip to the see the family. Its not a quick trip either even if you live in huntsvill this is a 20-30 mile drive. I get there and I ask the lady for some HOT sausage "we dont have hot sausge" I say "aw that sucks you ran out?" "No we dont make HOT sausage anymore." What! How can you have a place known for making sausage and not have freaking HOT sausage? Thats the next most requested sausage after flippin plain dang sausage. Well the other sausage wasnt bad back in the day so I got some plain beef and pork and the new cajun style they had, along with a pack of german. To make the story short I have tried them all since we got back I tried to cook them every way but on my engine block. Smoked em, fried em, grilled em, boiled em too. They never came out right to greasy. No place close to what they used to be I cant stand it seems like someone may have passed or quite or they sold the place to someone else but this is not the tallents of old. The one I really wanted to try was the venison, but sadly just passing through I had nowhere to keep or cook it. Folks around me were buying them so be sure to try it out. They have a little lunch counter too. The fellow in front of me ordered a tasty looking sliced beef sandwich. I had a small sausage roller ("small" being the size of a normal bratwurst, "roller" being on a piece of white bread and rolled up) covered with the clerk's recommendation of Barbatard: a mixture of mustard and BBQ sauce.
