As soon as arriving at the motel, the room was not cleaned I had to go and get the hostess to get a cleaner to clean my room. Mind you I was here for two seconds. The shower went cold in 5 mins the tv wasn't working. There were no windows that's open in SUMMER :-( bed was cheap wasn't comfortable at all. Ladies that live on property are loud all hours of day and night. AC doesn't work like it should. Overall bad experience for the money I paid. The women hostess was not pleasant when I spoke to her about the room being dirty and not cleaned. But the male hostess was great very understanding. He even got us pillows and towels :-) read more

Convenient location near Maine Diner (0.1 mile, great Maine fare), Merrifarm Executive golf course (9 holes $20), Rachel Carson Preserve, Wells Estuary (Trails & Beach $6), Wells Beach (3 miles), local shopping + more Minimalistic but safe, refreshing HOT H2O with good pressure, [I recommend BYOToiletries.]. NOTE: old school keys & chain lock ... I recommend a $5 travel door lock to augment security. Amenities were as promised: small microwave, "dorm" frig, large smart TV with DirecTV, WiFi (good connection but not designed for gaming), swimming pool (in-season), working propane grills, picnic tables, alarm clock, towels, soap, shampoo, AC & heat. (Thermostat worked in my room). PET FRIENDLY Found the train whistle endearing as it reminds me of my hometown. I made a new friend. Bonus. Had some entertaining conversations with patrons. I found the staff friendly & accomodating. I slept well after playing golf & walking on the beach all day. Recommend MAINE DINER. Standard property policies. I don't know what kind of expectations traveller's have but with all the features & amenities TOTAL worth $50/nite. I had a cabin on the northeast end of the property. I was here only one night. I wish I could have stayed longer. The cabin was comfortable and clean. I slept well in the bed. This place isn't new, so there might be a blemish or two. Bathroom and shower were clean and worked well. Bed was clean. I found the cabin well maintained. Front desk was friendly and welcoming. Location was excellent for what I needed. Abundant options to get breakfast within a mile or two. read more

Tried to get the owner to at least meet us halfway and refund half our money, NOPE! He YELLED and said " those sheets aren't dirty"! LIES! This place could be really great if there was a bit more effort/money put in. From the drive in it does look cute, the pool area seemed nice, there were grills outside for use too. As we approached the room the parking lot was just covered in trash, the folks living there kept the outside of their rooms horribly. Inside was worse - super dirty - the carpets, bathrooms, everything was just really unkept and dusty. The sheets were clean and the bed did not have any bugs nor did I see any bugs in the room, so that was good. I barely took my phone out so I didn't take photos. My friend booked this for us. Positive Notes - manager seemed nice - staff was helpful - folks staying their were kind - great location You get what you pay for but it was $150/night. Oof. read more

So, the staff is very nice but not organized. When I arrived the manager went to go make sure my room was ready and didn't tell the other staff member to check me in, then asked if he checked me in which struck me as odd. My chief complaints were cleanliness and organization. 1. There were ants all over my room it was disgusting and I swear I saw a roach scurry across my room but I couldn't find it. Smoke from people smoking outdoors filled my room at well. It appears they need to caulk some cracks in the building or something. The AC doesn't really help at all. It's too weak/small and also there's clearly hot air getting in from the outside which is also where the bugs and smoke comes from too. 2.someone parked a truck in my spot in front of my room and they couldn't find out who because they don't match the car to the guest/room. They also didn't tow the truck which would've been the most acceptable outcome given they couldn't find the driver. My advice: do preventative maintenance before it gets to be too much for you to handle, and keep license plates on file and make a deal with a tow truck company to tow cars that aren't Associated with a guest. read more

Each time I stay at a 'dive' motel I tell myself it can't be any worse than the last, yet each time I prove that theory to be completely untrue. We were looking for a last-minute and cheap place to stay for one night while in the Wells area during Labor Day weekend. We knew there would be little time spent in the room and simply needed a place to crash for the night. That's exactly what the Tallwood Motel is good for. Don't expect much and you won't be disappointed. A classic 'mom and pop' motel on the outskirts of Wells that was probably once a lovingly-maintained tourist destination, the Tallwood's current owners are likely making money by taking in any leftover travelers unable to find a better room on busy weekends or those looking for a bargain rate, but it's clear there is very little effort or interest in caring for this building or its grounds. We did meet one of the housekeepers upon checking in as she was working to finish our room when we arrived. This woman seemed to be a hard worker and was genuinely concerned she was leaving us with enough towels. Although this review touches negatively on the worn and tired appearance of the room, I don't believe this reflects the housekeeper's work in any way. The motel buildings and all its contents have clearly not been updated in many years. First impressions were met with a very uninviting and dirty chair placed just inside the room by the door. The chair serves little purpose in its current state aside from taking up valuable space within the closet-sized room and it sets the tone for what is to follow. The faded paisley bed coverings had a dingy feel as I quickly peeled one back only to uncover a well-worn blanket full of holes. An oversized table lamp circa 1982 propped between the beds sported it's crooked shade and bright yellow base, of course minus one of today's most valuable amenities, charging ports; therefore rendering it necessary to pull the plug on the useless old clock radio to free-up outlets. There was a refrigerator and microwave tucked in a corner of the room, but I wouldn't want to stay here long enough to have a need for those items. This is a motel where the flip-flops must remain on your feet at all times. Our double queen room was small with drab carpeting and a very inefficient bathroom featuring a miniature vinyl shower stall and a wall-mounted sink with no vanity counter. The bathroom had a dirty feel with some areas of moldiness on the wall. The shower curtain does not do its job of keeping water inside and the floor becomes easily flooded. Without a vanity counter, or at least any towel racks, there is no place to rest personal belongings or clothing while in the bathroom. The worst part was how dirty the bathroom seemed. I noticed odd stains above the shower on the ceiling and the areas of mold on the walls should really be cleaned up. Being in the bathroom was an unpleasant experience. Although the bed coverings were quite worn, the mattress itself was not all that bad and I slept quite decent during the night. The grounds could use a little refreshing, but there is some curb appeal. A Colonial homestead by the road doubles as the office while the circular cul de sac of motel rooms stretches out behind. The swimming pool is certainly the redeeming factor of the motel set in the middle and accented by pretty tall trees, hence the motel's name? My favorite part: A few of the vintage and colorful Solair chairs commonly found at strip motels circa 1970-1980's are still scattered about the property. I love these chairs and their retro feel reminds me of fun family vacations as a child. Those were the days when this motel was probably in its prime, but sadly it has seen better days. Yes we paid a bargain rate and probably knew what we were getting into, but we expected a little better comfort and cleanliness than this. I also hate to see these classic motels become so neglected as they are little mid-century treasures that should be preserved. With mine and all the other negative reviews, I hope the owner will take the feedback as a que to make some improvements. read more

Hotel issues 7/12-7/17 Checked into the hotel about 8:30 PM, when I arrived at a room 25, the TV was not working and I went into the bathroom and saw that there was mold outside of the shower. I also found a broken dresser drawer. When the owner finally came to my room at 9:30 PM I told him about the mold in the bathroom, the broken dresser drawer, and that the TV wasn't working. He fixed the TV and said he would fix the dresser tomorrow and the shower. I ended up taking a showers at night, and because there's no fan in the bathroom, the spot on the wall started to get wet, and little black bugs came out. The next morning I went to the owner again and stated there's black mold in the bathroom room smells like mildew, and the dresser was still broken. That night when I returned they did nothing to the bathroom, and the dresser was still broken. So I went to the front desk again, and complained he stated he would give me a different room the next day. When I return to the hotel, I went up for a new hotel room, and was told it was my fault because I did not leave my key so he could give me a new room. He then started yelling at me and telling me that I'm lying about everything, and started yelling in front of his customers that were coming into the office. Once the yelling was done, he stated that if they leave my key the next morning he will guarantee me a room to finish my stay. That following morning I left my key went to my sons house, and once I headed back to the hotel about 8 PM, I received a new hotel key for room 24. Room 24 once I inspected, had mold throughout the shower and mold outside the shower the smell wasn't as bad but it was still very upsetting. He stated he would give me two free nights, and when I left the hotel he informed me that the two free nights were for future dates. And I found that to be unacceptable and explain that to him. I have now contacted my bank to try to stop the payment and to dispute and get some type of refund. read more

I've stayed here before and found it 2-3 Stars, but stay was so bad, i give it less than one star if I could. First the bed is the worst. I woke up atleast once an hour. It's just bad. Second, ants every where. And not just one or two, but dozens all over the bathroom. Three. The bathrooms so small it's impossible to use the job, the sink is right in your lap. Lastly, it's 8:oo a.m. and lawn mowers are going full blast. So much for sleeping in. There's too many other motels in the area to stay here. read more

Only gave it one star because of the swimming pool! It was huge and clean for the most part. We walked in to find the curtains broken, only one window could open, the lights were barely hanging on to life, lots of trash in the room and the a/c knob was broken (but the a/c did work!) Our telephone wasn't plugged in, when we called on our cellphones to tell them they said they would have some come look but in the 48 hours we were there no one came. Also the wifi password doesn't work and they told us to log on with "try it out" feature and it'll keep us on the wifi all night. There's a garage attached to the "office" that had a vending machine of snacks and soda, an ice cooler and some brochures. It's less expensive than other hotel and motels near the ocean so you get what you pay for I guess. read more

We stayed here for two nights because we thought the location would be convenient, however there was nothing comfortable or enjoyable about this hotel other than that it was conveniently located. The woodwork was filthy dirty, the furniture was old and uncomfortable, the TV had 60 channels of home shopping nothing else, the toilet was undersized and not comfortable for a normal adult, and the bath towels were small, thin and stained. Additionally the so-called "free Wi-Fi" was only available at the poolside, not in the hotel rooms. The room had the vague smell of mouth balls and cat pee. We stuck it out here because nothing else was available. It seems like we were the only guests who were not chain smokers. Though there is officially no smoking in the rooms at any given time there were people sitting outside smoking heavily. I hate to say it but this place is a half step up from a welfare motel. read more

Nothing matches with the advertised when we walked in for our honeymoon it was smaller than they advertised it as it was dirty there was blood on the ceiling like someone had smeared it there the owner was very rude when I explained certain things to him to the point where we almost got into an argument in a fight the pool was dirty nothing has been kept up there are no amenities that they state like game room has been closed for 2 years but that's not what it says on their website there's a train that goes by every hour and it's so loud that you can't even hear over the TV tons of traffic in and out not worth it I would highly warn against going there you may as well spend money elsewhere you can tell that the owner doesn't care if the rooms are clean or not when it is brought to his attention he said that there's nothing wrong with the rooms luckily for us we talked to one of the cleaning people and got them to clean our room read more

If I could give this place negative stars I would. The man working the front desk was rude and unaccommodating. When we got there we found out they changed the type of room that was reserved and did nothing to rectify the situation. He kept on telling us we could cancel, but that was not an option since we were 2 hours away from home. He kept repeating himself, never said sorry and then threatened to call the cops on us. My dad and I are staying in Maine for the week, and dad, who's generally an easy going kind of guy, is pretty fed up with this motel. First, we thought we were getting a two bed room - nope. We got a little old room with a double bed. Re the double bed, my dad said 'oof! Might as well be sleeping on the floor.' And I, being the twenty something in this equation, actually do get the floor =) Wireless is weak to nonexistent (to get a better signal I have to sit outside), the air conditioner beeps loudly intermittently, bathroom is very small with barely any towels, and we get maybe the first twelve channels on the tv. All of our attempts so far to improve the situation have been rebuffed. read more

Great value. Very sweet, simple, unpretentious quintessential Maine lodge. The rooms are large, very clean, with an a/c and hd tv that worked great. Each room has a shaded area outside with chairs for sitting. The pool was being cleaned as we arrived and had a nice grassy area with grills and picnic tables. read more

I'm going preface this review with a simple statement: You get what you pay for. And I guess I'll also state that I would probably stay here again. Tallwood is cheap and for that reason I tolerated the dirty carpet (I get that the pine needles are tracked in by your shoes but I'm not sure that carpet has seen a vacuum cleaner in years), the old and dirty sheets, the tiny (but very clean!) bathroom and the bugs (no bedbugs, I checked thoroughly! There were only small spiders and other non-boodsucking critters around that probably come in because the doors are left wide open during cleaning services). The smoke alarm also kept going off when I took a shower because of the steam. Leaving windows and doors open did not help. I will say that my friend's room did not have dirty sheets and the carpet was cleaner and the sheets were changed when I asked. They offer free wifi but I did not try it. It was raining most of the time I was there so I also didn't check out the pool either. But it did look big. 3 stars because honestly if you're just looking for a place to store your stuff and sleep a few hours, it'll do. It's close to the ocean and the Maine Diner which I definitely recommend. read more

I was there on June 17 as my wife and were tired driving down from Bar Harbor to Massachusetts. We were tired and we stayed there in 2019 twice. so we stopped and paid for the room as i booked it week before so all i had to do was pay for it. we paid and went to the room. we unloaded just few things and we were hungry so we went to eat but on way out of property i received a call from home and it was necessary for us to leave immediately so we went back in got our few things out of the room and dropped keys off and left. I told guy who checked us in that we had emergency at home so had to leave. I said I will call you in morning. Well a young lady answered phone in the morning and she knew our issue. she said I would received our money back in our account within 1-3 days, well its been going on for almost month now with same answers 1-3 days. Check in guy wasn't friendly and actually was rude. like i said I stayed there before but you know what never again will i enter that place and i recommend to everyone stay away as they don't do honest work. read more

Honestly, best motel I've ever stayed In. The air was fresh like the batch of laundry your mother puts in when your out in the field to play. Shower is hot, pressure is on point, almost felt like I was receiving a deep tissues massage by a licensed therapist. The AC unit worked as good as mountain mule. There were no bugs. Just little critters peeping outside in the beautiful landscape near the inviting pool. Sleep well in the clean sheets. Oh and the price? First off let me say that I am NOT a picky person, and I NEVER write bad reviews...EVER, but I feel compelled to write this one. As I pulled into the driveway and parked outside the office I thought that this would be a cool little place to stay for the week (booked a full week on hotels.com), I checked myself in and got my room key. The manager seemed very nice. I drove around and found my room and parked outside, walked into my room and found a light switch....nothing, so I tried turning on a lamp next to the bed....nothing. The lamp by the bathroom.....still nothing. Finally I tried the lamp by the other side of the bed.....LET THERE BE LIGHT! Found another light switch behind me, and immediately found out that the bathroom lights work....to where I found a running toilet, I like to think I'm pretty handy...so I took off the lid to the tank and I tried my damndest to fix it...nothing, so it runs. As I'm sitting in my quiet peaceful room....a train whistle, not in the distance....but right across the street. The walls seem paper thin...then my suspicion was confirmed when I sneezed and my neighbor said "bless you". I eventually found an outlet to plug in my phone...that's right I had to search the room for outlets. I found one behind the bed, and one in the corner of the room....a total of 2 working outlets in my room that weren't in use. So let's try and put some positive in this thing, shall we? My room has a fridge, a microwave, and a TV, all of which work (phew). They do have a pool and a sitting area around it which would be fun....but I don't plan on taking up space in this room past 10am tomorrow morning. If you like cheap motels....this place isn't worth the $50 a night....pay the few extra bucks and stay somewhere else. Honestly I am a pretty picky person. Our room with the king bed was still occupied at check in. He wanted to upgrade us to 2 queens. I wasn't okay with that and threatened to go somewhere else. He then dropped the Price to 79 a night for me. Room was super clean (room 34). There was An overpowering perfume smell which gave me A headache but cleared out once we figured out it was coming from the AC filter.'they must put soap in it to make the room smell clean. We washed It out and told Them Not to clean our room until we Left. Beds were Okay. Pool was awesome! Goes to 9ft deep. Shower wasi smaller than our cruise ship shower. First time in Maine and this place is a definite place to stay! Staff was very friendly. Beds are a little uncomfortable but it's a motel not a Hilton. Bring extra pillows easy fix. Bathrooms were small but it's a bathroom. Bring your own shampoo. Very close to everything. There's little places to sit and eat outside along with grills. For two people that were on a budget this is definitely the place to stay. There is an IGA and Cumbies right up the Rd get yourself some burgers and beers and enjoy the outside! Well definitely come back here when we stay here again! Oh yeah beach is literally a 5min drive just bring your card not cash. Pool is very nice and it's opened till 10pm. All the staff and people are incredible and insanely friendly. Although there is a grill, I suggest bringing your own grilling equipment. Overall, very nice and close to everything. Only 20 minutes away from Ogunquit, 30 minutes away from Portland, and 5 minutes away from the beach. Like mentioned before bring your card to the beach and not cash. read more
