I've visited twice during the off season. Both times I've enjoyed my stay and found the rooms to be clean and comfortable. Some things didn't work in my friends' rooms, and one person had broken furniture. Personally, I've really enjoyed the value of an off season getaway. I've never even had to deal with anyone working there. read more

We stay here every year for the Sanford Wrestling Annual Tournament. They are extremely accommodating of us and our team. The units are really nice. They're all a little different. This year we had a really nice one and hosted the whole team for a late dinner after wrestling. This unit had a small full kitchen with open floor plan, dining table and plenty of seating. The bed could have been a little more comfortable but room was very nice. The temperature was comfortable as well. There is washer and dryer in rooms which is extremely convenient to wash the teams singlets. I plan to come back during the summer as a tourist rather than wrestling mom and of course will return next wrestling season. I highly recommend. read more

We spent the week and have been coming here a few summers.over the years. The size of the units is terrific, we stayed in a two bed two bath. It is perfect for families with kids. The decor is dated in many units but we dont mind since we love the space and the full kitchen! We really appreciate the indoor and outdoor pools so we can swim even if the weather is bad. The service is terrific and the staff is really helpful. Wifi is good but Specturm cable can be hit or miss in the rooms. We were not.able to get one of the bedroom units to work. Location is great, close to grocery stores as well Wells Beach and small shops in Ogunquit. It's also not too far to Kennebunk. Worth checking out, we will be back! read more

From the time I called this place, until we left, was great!! We don't often get a chance to get away, but this place, at first, I was a little nervous because of some of the reviews, which now being here, I cannot understand why, because everything has been great! We stayed here from a Friday to a Monday, at a price that was a great price! The office help was wonderful, with booking and on checking in, to asking for 2 washcloths, yup, that was all we had to ask for, because this place was well stocked! Our room was waaaay beyond what I was expecting. Reading the reviews, I was thinking little rooms, with not such great furniture. NOPE, not at all!! This was a home away from home with a lot of room and everything, like I mentioned, well stocked. Our master bedroom was larger than our own bedroom at home, with plenty of closet space. And, this is always a bonus, the bed was comfortable!! The pillows did not go flat, but they were firm and were amazing!! Our kitchen was a good size and stocked well with itmes we needed for the weekend and we brought in a few items to eat and drink that we wanted for our trip. We had 2 bedrooms, 2 baths, a living room, a dining room, full kitchen and a washer/dryer and a good size deck. This place was clean and spacious!! Yeah, the TV was a little slow, but when you're on vacation, why would it matter. Isn't that the point of a vacation, to lay back and relax! So our TV was in that mode too :), not a biggie. Granted we brought our swimming items to go to their indoor heated pool, but we never made it, maybe next time. They also have a game room, which again, maybe next time. We pretty much came here to just lay back, unwind and relax and that we did. We hope to come back here again, as this was a great place and we highly recommend, if ever need a place to stay, this is a definite!! We will definitely be returning!! We had my Mother's Mercy meal here and the sandwiches and appetizer trays were stolen before some of the grieving people had a chance to have one. These were not free and my Father was not even asked if he would like one before they took them. The appetizers were put down at the same time as the sandwiches. No time to discuss the grief. If you want to have anything to eat, you better have it as soon as you walk in the door. When I called the venue a Jill who said she was a manager was very stern, never said "sorry for your loss," was not pleasant at all and angrily told me she would talk to who made the reservation. Wasn't happy about getting feedback to make the experience better. Appetizers should have been out alone with beverages upon entering. Save your money and go to a more compassionate venue who cares about your Family and wants to make a sad time easier. A venue that would let your Family grieve and have a bite when they felt up to it. Afraid of the sandwiches spoiling? Put them on ice or a pretty cooler tray... The manager had a nasty attitude... The location is perfect for exploring the area! It's not walking distance to the beaches but close enough. Staff are very friendly- the outer grounds are well maintained. They also have outdoor grills for guests and a nice fire pit by the pool. Our unit had a nice patio off the master bedroom that looked out at well maintained yard. The two bedroom is very spacious and the full kitchen is a bonus. The pools are great and the offer both indoor and outdoor pool areas. The few negatives we encountered are that the room we stayed in is quite outdated. Nothing like the rooms pictured on the website. The couch and chair are way past the expiration and not that comfortable. Almost all of the furniture is scratched, stained chipped etc. Furniture you would expect to see in your 18 year olds first apartment. Blinds are broken and there the room with the double beds did not have full curtains so beautiful morning sunshine fills the room. The noise was the worst issue. The rooms are not soundproof and being on the first floor was not ideal with a family with little kids above us. You can hear EVERYTHiNG. But at least we started our day bright and early :) well before 8am. I'm not sure we got what we paid for but we did had fun at the beaches and seeing family. read more

My husband and I stayed at Village by the Sea for a week in October. The condo unit we had was 2 bedrooms 2 baths. It was very spacious and comfortable. The unit was very clean and fresh. This was the absolute best vacation of my life. I've been to 43 states, and now Maine is my favorite state in the U.S. The location was perfect. I saw a beach city covered with rainbow flags and beautiful people. There was a restaurant a couple miles away that sat on the first cliff beach that I've ever seen (tiller at Cliff house hotel) There was much more that made this the perfect spot to go. Curtains would be a dope upgrade though! Black outs for sure. read more

Update: our Summer 2017 stay was as awesome as always! Forgot to mention in my previous review to always try to get a corner unit. We have a fine one, 2nd floor, this time and it has obviously been renovated recently. New flooring, interior doors, cabinets, appliances and plumbing fixtures! WOW! No detail has been overlooked. The balcony outside even has what appears to be new flooring. The new interior doors and flooring seem to have been chosen with sound proofing in mind. We have never been stuck with a "bad "unit here and I just wanted to mention these obvious upgrades in light of the few here who have given bad reviews for the accommodations. Now I am nervous they will raise their prices because they certainly could! read more

Went here for our honeymoon, bring the kids all the time, and sometimes when my wife and I need to get away. The suites are spacious and beautiful, they are well-kept by the cleaning staff, and the view of the marshes is amazing, especially at sunset. The 'game room' is a little skimpy in that they have a total of two games there and they used to have a lot more... not sure what happened. Oh well, not a big deal as I never spend much time there. The weight room facility is small, but it's never crowded and you can always get to the machines you want. The pool is really nice. My kids and I always have fun there and it's one of the big things that I look forward to when staying there. (Aside from the Seafood and sights.) My best advice is that you should definitely get an upper level suite if you can afford a little extra, the view is well worth it, especially if you get up at sunrise. read more

I don't know how this place doesn't have 5 stars. Honestly the happiest memories of my childhood took place here and it's a place I'm going to take my family every summer when I have one. DO NOT COME HERE IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR PEACE AND QUIET! Sorry to yell that last part, but seriously, if you are someone who values or needs quiet in the locations you stay, avoid this place at all costs. The walls and ceilings/floors are paper thin and you hear every conversation, tv, footstep, shower running and toilet flushing. Our first room was so noisy that I asked for a new room. Something I have never done. They were able to put me in a quieter unit at a cost of an additional $80. However, my first unit had 1 bedroom and 2 bathrooms, the second had 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. They went and locked the second bathroom and second bedroom in my new unit "since you originally booked a one bedroom." I agreed that I had booked a 1 bedroom, but asked: "I am paying an increased price, why shouldn't I have access to everything I was paying for?" The only answer they would give is that I couldn't replace my original booking with a 2 bedroom. I replied: "fine, I only need one bedroom anyway, but my original room has 2 bathrooms, why are you locking the 2nd one in my new unit?" I could not get a straight answer for that one. I was so tired I just gave up so I could try and get some rest. I didn't get any. Even in the "quiet" unit, I could hear EVERYTHING the neighbors did. It was extremely annoying. I can't fathom how anyone tolerates the noise in this place. It scored 9 out of 10 on booking.com and I cannot figure out how. read more

We had been coming to VBTS and the place has gotten very nasty. Moldy smells in the hallways. Rooms that weren't very clean, especially the bathrooms. Water spots on the ceilings. Poor customer service. They had an excuse for everything. Not attentive. It all comes down to lack of respect towards the customer. It's easy to see they have problems when there are few vehicles parked at the condos with many empty parking spaces. read more

We spent a weekend with friends in a 2 bedroom. We thought check out was too early -- 10:00. The place was not a hotel but individually owned and decorated apartments. We had lots of space and a balcony that overlooked the salt marsh. There was a full kitchen and we ate in two meals per day. read more

My stay here was Memorial weekend. This was my second stay, and last. Don't let the nicely groomed exterior of this Resort fool you. When you go in to the condo buildings you will be surprised and not in a good way. The pictures they share must be of one condo. They don't all look like this. When we got in the condo it smelled cigarettes. The kitchen counter was old and recked. Were holes in the living room wall. The furniture was 1980's. The tv box kept overheating after 1 minute. We arrived June 18 in a rain storm and the desk clerk didn't know where building 6 was and she had just come on duty. POO POO I felt sorry for her, yea right. We were based at least a mile from the bus and had to climb the Matterhorn with canes, OOH the best part they were looking for our luggage too. I could see the appeal for families to stay here. My advice is to get an upstairs room with no one above you. The staff at the front desk was friendly but with a full place could not help us. You see we were lodging downstairs from a herd of elephants. Or at least that what it sounded like to us. The walls and floors are very thin and so you can hear conversations upstairs and yes, children running around at all hours. The buildings were made when they built them cheap and forgot sound proofing. The decor was 1980's floral. We had a mystery leak in the ceiling that created a puddle in the bedroom rug. They responded quickly with a shopvac and took care of it. The place has a nice small outdoor pool and indoor pool. The location is on a marsh with no easy access to the beach. So it is by the sea but not on one. I will seek out other lodging next time. read more

My wife and I attended a corporate holiday party last evening that included approximately 200 people. We were served a pre chosen of three meals. As difficult as it is to serve everyone a meal at once, I don't appreciate a meal served on a "cold" plate, not room temperature or even cool, it was cold. Great hotel for families vacationing up in Maine. A little ways from Ogunquit (which can be nice), this hotel has both an indoor and outdoor pool (for the warm summer months when salt water isn't appealing), and spacious suites with kitchens that are actually useful. I love this place. This is an all suite property so it's like renting an apartment for your vacation. Each unit is owned privately so its a good idea to check out the pics first. I've been twice and both times the units were amazing. We just went in April and I reserved a unit on the 2nd floor. I looked at the pictures and realized that the furniture might be difficult for me due to arthritis. I called and asked if it would be possible to switch out to a similar unit. The lady I spoke to was incredibly accommodating and sweet. She not only switched me out, she upgraded me at no additional charge. Initially I had a 1 bedroom, 2nd floor suite. She upgraded me to a 3rd floor 2 bedroom. This thing was bigger than my house. Gorgeous views, a skylight, king size bed, 2 full baths.....all for 100 bucks a night. I almost hate to write a review and let other people know about this treasure :) I think my only complaint is that the walls are thin. There was a wedding going on the weekend we were there and a neighbor was partying a bit. Not a big deal though. The unit had everything we could possibly need. A fully stocked kitchen, little shampoos & soaps, lots of clean towels and even some board games and books. The WiFi worked flawlessly as well. I will definitely be returning. read more

LOVE LOVE LOVE this place. 3rd year going with our parents AND our small children. There are 2 pools - one indoor and one outdoor. My only complaint is that I wish the indoor pool was heated cause my kids love it but I always find it cold. It's a VERY quick drive to the beach - and PERFECT for going with kids. Full kitchen and washer/dryer so our clothes are clean before we leave to go home. Definitely check the pics as some of the decor is quirky- but it's a GREAT value read more

I was very impressed with Village by the Sea. The rooms are fantastic. Especially for the price! We were on the top floor. The view was great. Loved watching the sun rise from the balcony. Great potential. Courteous staff and spacious suites. My daughter loves having her own bathroom, although her pull out couch was very uncomfortable. Pools were fine and hot tub a hit. Our bed was quite comfy and having a king size was nice. Negatives: We found it loud and we were given a lower level room which I did not like at all. The hallways are REALLY dingy and dark and narrow. Overall a nice place but old and in need of a little TLC. Special shout out to one exceptional staff member - John who was working in the indoor pool, noticed my daughter did not have a towel and warmed fresh towels for us in a microwave and delivered them!!! read more

This place has a lot of potential. Stayed in a two bedroom suite with full kitchen and living room dining room and porch. Very nice set up. Indoor pool and outdoor pool as well. We were on the second floor and let me say the ceiling is paper thin. You hear creaking all night long when anyone moves above you. Extremely annoying!! The price is very reasonable but not worth the lack of sleep from the noise!! Must get a top floor room or forget this place. read more

Caution - hotel uses 10 day cancellation policy and are inflexible. We called 9 days prior to visit date due to an illness (my 76 year old mother) and was told flat out no to a refund. Do not book! Update: the Hotel made an exception to their policy and refunded our deposit! read more

This is the most disgusting pool and fitness center I have ever used! The place is gross, always smells of mold that is in the showers and of body odor. There is mold is the ceiling lights in the shower rooms and the fitness center is alway extremely hot and the air conditioner never works. The tv is broken most of the time in the gym as well. The pool is always cloudy and the hot tub has made myself and my guests break out due to the bacteria in the pool and hot tub. The staff are Lazy and say they clean but they do not as we have been there after they leave. This is not place for a family friendly environment especially if you care about your own health and well-being. Don't waste your money. read more

We have stayed here the last 2 years during the holidays with no major complaints. This year started out fine, but on the 3rd night, on a Friday night, the pool and hot tub were monopolized by 2 high school wrestling teams and their entourage. There were at least 10-12 people in the 8-person hot tub at all times. They were climbing on top of a waterfall that was 7 or more feet out of the water. We also witnessed one of the group drinking a can of beer. We have 2 small children who were witnessing all this. As adults, we could not use the pool or the hot tub because of their behavior. I did not feel it was safe for my family to stay and use this facility. We saw 3 more groups leave without swimming as well. During the first 30 minutes we witnessed all this, we approached the coach for one of the teams, and also contacted the front office. The coach blew us off. The office sent a maintenance man who did nothing and had to be chased down after leaving to ask what was being done. We then left the pool area and walked to the office. The maintenance man was there and denied all the things we had seen. The office staff was going to call the police, but first walked back down with us to the pool, and all traces of both groups were gone. We checked out the next day and asked for a full refund, as this had ruined our vacation and cut it 2 days short. It took 3 visits with the assistant front desk manager, 2 lengthy emails and 3 days later to get that refund. We won't be back. read more

Have to agree with previous reviews. Stayed on the bottom floor and got no sleep. We could hear everything upstairs and every time someone comes in or out of the main door it slams. Went to use the indoor pool which was very nice and after 10 minutes we where flooded with children. Apparently they also rent the pool out for birthday parties. Inconvenient for guests staying there. Rooms are large and fully equipped but not worth the other hassles. Shout out to John in maintenance. He is very helpful and friendly. read more

NIGHTMARE BY THE SEA Planned on spending 1 night , to attend a family wedding event, but the bride allowed us to stay an extra night in her room as she wouldn't be sleeping there on Friday night. First night was in a 'Bridal Suite' 9G which was a good room with nice floors, but upon pulling the bedsheets back to check for bugs&cleanliness (which we always do when sleeping at any motel), we discovered pubic hairs on the mattress cover. A call to the front desk brought housekeeping running and they quickly changed both beds sheets. The bride arrived and discovered fake eyelashes on the bathroom floor. Another call ensured the entire room was clean and sanitized while we went out for dinner. The maintenance crew did also clean the hall&stair carpets which was nice but should have been done the day before as the fans were set up on every level drying as we carried up our luggage and dress clothes. The next morning brought a knock on the door asking us when we planned on leaving, as housekeeping said they needed to clean the room again. We quickly complied and had to negotiate several trips up&down the stairs around a maintenance man who was set up on the landing with spackle, paint, roller, tray and drop cloth doing repairs. We found ourselves standing in the rain, as we could not accept our new room 10A, as it was in the basement and smelled very damp&moldy. We informed the front desk folks,(who were very polite and accommodative throughout our time there) and Maintenance Man arrived (who I will hereafter refer to as MM) and showed us our second choice in Building 8 after I could not activate the key lock. The new room was at ground level but smelled musty with a big stain in the thick, old carpet. My wife informed the staff she has a health condition and needs a clean room and we were given keys to Building 2 ground floor. As we parked in front of B2 we saw MM leaving the building without a word to us and get in his truck and drive away. Once again I tried to use the electronic keys and the light would only turn red and we could not get in the room. It was now 11:30a.m. and we had already loaded our luggage in the car so I dropped off the keys at the front desk and we went out for breakfast. Upon our return the nice lady said we have to leave the key in the door a bit longer as MM tried them and they worked. I took the keys and drove back to B2 were we were intercepted in the hallway by MM as I got the lock light turned green. MM forced his way past myself and my wife and began arguing with us over the proper use of the door key in an aggressive demeanor. MM had now completely lost his composure and was acting in a violent and threatening manner so we left. The office refunded our money and said we could stay the night for free. We thought about staying but with my wife shaking and in tears we left for home. The entire weekend was now changed from a joyous celebration to a total nightmare. The office never apologized for his behavior. After a day of reflection it is obvious to me MM should not be working in the Hospitality business and his employer should never allow him to interact with the general public. read more

My review finally got the Manager to talk to me. She was very nice, explained that they have many nice rooms and perhaps the expectations of my group was greater then they could deliver since all their rooms are owned by individuals and quality does vary room by room. I still don't understand why they could not just set us up with 3 nice rooms. That would have saved me paying for the 3 rooms and then repaying elsewhere. Gut instinct - this hotel is run by racist. When we arrived in early October 2015 at this hotel, there was almost 100% vacancy. Traveling from CA, I had my Chinese wife and mother-in-law with me, and my friends who are Mexican. Receptionist was very nice, gave us our 3 room keys and when we got there, one of the rooms was recently remodeling and beautiful, the other two were so old you can see the dips in the bed. The other two rooms were not acceptable to any of us. We then went to the front desk and they gave us 3 more keys. All 3 rooms were just as bad as the last two. We tried one more time, same thing. The hotel had to be 90+% vacant, why would they keep sending us to nasty rooms, especially since we know they have good rooms based upon the one room we saw and what other reviews had to say. Like I said, they only thing I can think of is racism, I can't think of any other reason that they would not set us up with 3 nice rooms. read more

I've stayed at VBTS a few times and greatly enjoy staying there. Some rooms are very nice, but there are some here and there that are certainly older and need some updating. 15D is one of my favorites, as well as 13F. If you can, second and third floor rooms are certainly worth the prices because you can get a great view of the ocean from them. The indoor pool is lovely, as well as the hot tub. I haven't been a time when it was too crowded to use them. Staff has always been very nice and helpful. I haven't had issues with them ever, and I would certainly recommend to people coming into town. I would also note to visit their website and view photos of the rooms before booking to see what each room looks like! read more

My big family had two adjacent suites and were shocked at the difference in quality between the two. One looked (and smelled) like a Murder She Wrote crime scene circa 1990; the other was pleasantly hokey and cheerful. Me and my girlfriends stayed here while taking a shopping trip to southern Maine. Very clean condos, very polite and helpful staff, the amenities are great and well kept! This was my first stay here and I most certainly will be back! It would be perfect for two couples, a family, or even a group of friends. Very affordable!
