I have been going to Dr. Wyse since before she started her own practice. She is an outstanding physician. And unlike many doctors, if u have a problem with your vision or scratch your eye, her staff will do their best to make room for her to see you on short notice. I had been to her many times bc of rubbing my eyes in my sleep augh. When Dr. Wyse began her new practice, it took me a while to find her (too long to explain in this review) and at that time, I was sure I had a serious problem. I called and explained I was and old patient but new to this practice and had not known she moved. Her incredible staff found me from her past information (I had moved) and found time to see me within 24 hours, and she diagnosed my detached retina and got me to a specialist in time for immediate care. Basically she saved my eye. Some people have complained about a long wait time. Please understand, if you are going to the very best, you should expect a long wait. Your eye will need to be dilated. You may also be tested for range of vision or blind spots, and based on your description of your problem, her office may decide to do this using equipment beyond someone just moving their finger around. This all takes time, even if you are the only person in the office. What else, when I was there last week, the staff did an incredible job with a busy practice, (made busier by end if year insurance rush) they are thorough and they care. Dr. Wyse herself is the kindest, most knowledgeable and experienced ophthalmologist I have been to and I have experienced the other end of the spectrum too. Last but not least, the office is clean and well maintained. There is current reading material. Have you ever been to an exam elsewhere, where you worried that you may be putting your chin on an unwiped chin or forehead rest? Or the magazines are a year old? That doesn't happen here. In sum, set aside time for your visit because your eyes will most likely be dilated. Bring headphones for an audiobook or podcast and let the staff know u will be relaxing that way. Bring sunglasses if u r driving home on a sunny day w dilated eyes. And know you are in good hands. read more

Blame patient or other departments. No sense of urgency after office delay. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Was prescribed a prescription on 12/24/2025 that has been an ordeal w/ lack of communication from the doctor's office and wrong information being sent to the insurance company causing the prescription to be pending/delayed for a few days/week which I was trying to get it before the new year and ASAP because my eyes were hurting.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]After my appointment, found out that the prescription is not covered by my insurance plan. Called the doctor's office to ask if there is another prescription. Did not get a call back but saw they changed it. The new prescription was still not being filled.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Called the pharmacy and was told that it requires prior authorization. Called my insurance plan to know if a prior authorization was received and they didn't have one. Called my doctor's office again to request a prior authorization and for it to be sent as urgent as instructed by the pharmacy and insurance company. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Called my doctor's office again a couple of days later at least twice as well as calling the pharmacy and insurance company. My doctor's office did not return any phone calls after one voicemail to call them back which I did several times.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] In the morning on 12/31/2025, the insurance company has not received a prior authorization. The pharmacy is still waiting for approval from the insurance company. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Finally on the last day of the year someone from my doctor's office calls me and says they sent a prior authorization as urgent and that they only received two voicemail messages. I said I called multiple times a day and left messages as well as left messages w/ the front desk. She kept saying I didn't. She said she would send the prior authorization as urgent.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I called the insurance plan and they received it as standard and not urgent. The likelihood of it being filled today, the last day of the year is slim to none because it was marked at standard. The pharmacy is closed early today and is closed tomorrow. This is insane! [[HIGHLIGHT]]A patient should not have to get this involved w/ prescriptions and not be blamed for not receiving all the voicemail that were left. If two were received, that should be enough. If a request for a phone call and status are requested, call back.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I do not recommend this office bc of the faulty staff. I don't know about the doctor bc I only had one appointment. Was not able to get the prescription today bc the person at my doctor's office did not send it as urgent and marked it as standard even though she said it was sent as urgent. I was also informed that they have to request an exception. This could have all been started last week when I first called the office regarding this. For me to pay out of pocket, it will cost over $1000.00. Just an addendum here from my glowing previous review (after reading many good and not-good reviews for this business). A majority of complaints here reside either in waits being too long or, more likely, quality of staff courtesy and receptivity. As to the first category, well, no one in any doctor's office should be waiting past an hour to start their appointment (my seething commences right around the 45-minute mark, for any MD's office; after an hour, I get a a little feisty and, if not treated with respect and understanding by reception, I consider rescheduling - and putting in a complaint on their site - grudgingly, here on Yelp). These office waits have been increasing all over the medical terrain in recent years due largely to over-scheduling by hospitals and, yes, small clinics like Wyse Eyecare. Over-scheduling and, ahem, clients chronically arriving late for their appointments (reschedule, folks!) are why your wait times have increased so much in the last decade or so. Plenty of blame to go around here. That being said, Wyse Eyecare is a bustling and highly in-demand business - and for damn good reason, btw. Still, people don't want to wait endlessly when they've already been waiting weeks, even months, for their appointments. A fair complaint here regarding any medical office. [[HIGHLIGHT]]And, yes doctors, et al, the demeanor and professionalism of reception and care staff is *crucial* as to whether businesses get an enthusiastic 5 Stars or an embittered, lonely 1 Star on social media.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] This can be make or break for any business, not just medical. [[HIGHLIGHT]]And although I've rarely received less than professional reception at Dr Wyse's office, I have little doubt that others here have left the office cross and dissatisfied.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It's gonna happen at some point. That's the nature of the beast, unfortunately. But medical offices must be more attuned to patient grievances, if they are indeed legit. Remember: The customer is always right (even when they aren't). Very successful medical offices are successful for a good reason. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Yet, this doesn't excuse rude or dispassionate attitudes on part of staffers - no matter how stressed or overworked they may be.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] If you can't handle the heat, cooks, exit the kitchen. I was originally referred to Dr Wyse by my optometrist because during my annual exam he saw cataracts. I was unaware of the extended process both before and after the surgery,but I now see how necessary it was to get it done right, both Dr Wyse and her staff was very thorough and detailed throughout the process. I did some follow up with my optometrist and he commented what a great job Dr Wyse did.I now only need only need reading glasses. I would definitely refer someone else here if they asked. read more

I have gone to Dr. Wyse for years and always felt like I'd been treated as a human being. Yesterday I went for a checkup and the care was so impersonal and uncaring. I had several annual visits to Dr. Wyse in the past but my last visit two weeks ago was my last one. I will not be returning. The quality of the care at WYSE has gone downhill. As someone who works in healthcare and have been a caregiver for both my grandmother and my mother, I normally give healthcare workers and office staff a lot of leniency when it comes to my expectations for timeliness and customer service. I've had multiple experiences with the staff at this office in making appointments for my mother who spends part of her year out of the country. Today, I called to make another appointment for her and was told that they couldn't proceed after I answered half of the patient information because "it would be a HIPPAA violation." I replied that it is not, in fact, a HIPPAA violation since they were not disclosing any of the patient's personal health information and that I've made appointments for her with them in the past. At the first sign of her snippy tone, I asked to speak to the Office Manager. Heidi then gets on the phone and emphatically repeats that I cannot make an appointment because of the HIPPAA guidelines. She interrupted me repeatedly, would not let me finish my sentences, and stated that the doctors would not care if they lost a patient. While I was on the phone with who will be my mother's new ophthalmologist (that office confirmed that making an appointment is not a HIPPAA violation), someone from Dr. Wyse's office once again called. I didn't answer, and my mother went ahead and messaged the office asking that her files be sent to the new provider. I have never been treated so rudely in a medical setting in my life - either personally or professionally. I suggest that the staff here get proper training on the laws and regulations that guide our industry, in addition to some basic customer service skills. read more

This practice has changed and not for the better. I will not be returning after many years as a patient with Dr. Wyse and many, many referrals to her. In the past 3 years, nothing has gone right with them. There has been a severe lack of communication regarding practice changes, plus they did not get my eyeglass prescription right three times in a row. After wasting hundreds of dollars on glasses with the wrong prescription, I finally went to Costco for a refraction and they were spot on in one try. I waited to review Dr. Wyse until both my cataract surgeries were complete. Dr. Wyse is the super star of eye care. Everything she does goes smoothly, and now I can see 20-20. Before, I had a 13-plus prescription in my good eye and the other could no longer be corrected with glasses. She's incredibly gentle and helps you decide whether cataract surgery is right for you but never pushes. She's a pro. She does 1500 of these a year. Since she was valedictorian of her class, it's really not surprising that everything she does is A-Plus Plus. I felt extremely well-cared for. Everything was explained to me in perfect detail. They use a lighter version of the drug used for colonoscopies, so the 15 minute procedure seems to take 30 seconds. It's a brand new world out there now. Everything is bright and colorful and I can see the falcon in all its glorious detail swooping by my window, or the bumblebee on a branch far above me. It's a miracle of science and she's the best possible doctor to take it on. She acts as though her whole practice is focused on you, and she makes you feel like she's your good friend. read more

Dr. Wyse has been my eye doctor for many years. She is both a brilliant ophthalmologist and eye surgeon with a wide-ranging knowledge of all eye conditions and treatments. She has solid professional relationships with expert eye specialists in the event that an additional consultation or surgical clearance is needed for a patient. Dr. Wyse removed cataracts from both my eyes and within a few days after surgery all discomfort was gone and I was seeing clearly. Prior to surgery, reading was problematic and night driving impossible. Dr. Wyse made my vision better than it has been in years. Dr. Wyse and her staff members are warm, courteous, highly skilled and patient centered. At my final check-up after my cataract surgery I was thrilled to learn that I no longer need to wear glasses. I can see clearly near and far and wearing readers for close-up work is a choice, not a necessity. In my opinion, Wyse Eyecare is superior in all ophthalmologic areas, treatment of irregularities of the eye, cataract surgery, and providing for corrective lenses. I am a few weeks past my second cataract procedure using extended focus lenses. My vision has cleared to 20/20 and as promised all I need in the way of glasses are readers for close reading. It is such a blessing to see well in the distance all the way to my computer without glasses. Dr. Wyse was the 2nd ophthalmologist I was referred to, and vastly better. The exam I received, culminating in Dr. Wyse's close inspection of my eye condition was very thorough and professional. She explained the reasons she would not recommend a multifocal lens, and what the pros and cons were of the lens options I had. I brought in a sheet of questions which she reviewed and answered to my satisfaction. In general her staff and the overall vibe was friendly, professional and female. I felt she hired good people and managed them well. The package of information initially provided and then subsequently augmented after I scheduled surgery was thorough but hard to navigate. The scoring sheets she provided to track eyedrops post-op was very useful. The initial impression of the surgery center she uses was not as professional. A nondescript building with a large and very tired waiting room. Lots of fax-age paperwork. However, the staff were friendly and professional, and surgery was relatively prompt. I was awake, and thanks to sedation, quite relaxed during surgery. Lots of voices hovering above me. No pain or sensation of being operated on. Although my eye being operated on must have been uncovered, I saw nothing. Post surgery on each eye there was a 6:45am appointment to check how the eye was doing post op. In particular, to check eye pressure and to remove a protective contact lens she inserted as a last step in surgery. Then a week later a visit with her office's opthamologist to check vision. read more

Went there for cataract surgery. It's okay if you like assembly -line service. Everyone that works there is pre-programmed right down to how they say hello. You feel like you're dealing with robots. As for the surgery, they send you to Midwest Surgical Center, a run down place in a Skokie industrial park and staffed with minimum wage nurses who are also very programmed and seemingly in a hurry to get you in and out. The Wyse surgeon stressed that I should page her in the event I feel ANY pain post-surgery. Upon experiencing excruciating pain , I paged her. She called back, listened to my situation and said "Well, these things take time to heal." I hung up on her and went to get pain medication from a different source. When I visited the surgeon for a post-op review, she started by telling me she understood how frustrated I felt, "But what you went through yesterday is not normal." They WHY did she not do anything to help[????? NOBODY I know who has ever had cataract surgery has ever experienced the pain I was feeling! Frankly, I think this place has grown too fast and is now more concerned about volume than providing individualized care. Also, and based on the number of papers you must sign, this place seems overly concerned about getting sued. read more

All the medical assistants that I met over the course of several months were highly skilled and professional. They cared about me and any questions or concerns I had. Was told someone would call to set a date for eye surgery almost 2 months ago. No one has called. When you try to get ahold of someone in the surgical scheduling department you get sent to voicemail and nobody returns your call. Dr. Wyse is a wonderful doctor. I'm comfortable with her and feel like she is very thorough. She has a very busy practice and everything moves rather quickly, but she will take the time to answer any questions you have and she takes the time to explain things. It's so busy that I'm quite sure she doesn't really remember me each time I go in but her chair side manner is so good that it doesn't really matter to me because I am confident she knows what she's doing and takes everything you say into consideration as well as notes it. This is a first class operation beginning with Dr.Weiss who is a brilliant surgeon. As a fellow surgeon I recognize excellence and being awake (but comfortable) during the procedures I was impressed. Poor administrative follow through, no attention to details. Requested a copy of our son's Rx(charged a fee for the Rx too, not included in the exam), took several weeks for the Rx to be emailed. Brought the Rx to a retail eye center to purchase contacts, it could not be filled as they did not update the expiration date on the Rx. Requested it be corrected and faxed to the retail eye center. When they faxed it, they gave the glasses Rx NOT the contacts Rx. 3 attempts to get the Rx correct! He was seen in the office in February, didn't get the correct Rx until late March. Go elsewhere, too much of a hassel getting the services YOU pay for. read more

Because I needed to see a doctor quickly, I made an appointment with Dr. Jill Bhakhri, one of Dr. Wyse's associates. OMG!!! I loved her SO much. It was my best appointment EVER at Wyse Eyecare. I plan to see her every visit. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!! My husband plans on switching to her as well based on my satisfaction. I was ready to leave Wyse because of all the delays. Last week I had my first cataract removed by Dr. Wyse. The entire process was miraculous. I went to her office for the first time a month ago because I decided it was time to remove my cataracts. More than a dozen neighbors and friends had recommended Dr. Wyse. Now I know why. She is an incredibly skilled surgeon and highly compassionate person. My experience at Dr. Wyse's office has been far better than any prior experience with ophthalmologists. I realize that some other reviews complain about the wait time. But, it is worth the wait. There is a reason. Their level of professionalism is impressive. They devote an exceptional amount of time during each appointment. They run far more tests than I've ever seen. They are so careful - checking and double-checking results to avoid any error. Dr. Wyse stayed to hear all my questions and concerns. And if you have questions the entire staff is knowledgeable and takes time to answer questions as well. They're very friendly and helpful. And they carefully explain the care instructions to make sure that the healing process goes well. The results are excellent. The day after surgery it was as if while I slept the world had been painted in vivid colors. It had become bright and light. Now, at night, while at a traffic light I can close my surgical eye and see how dim my vision had become over the past few years. I am so grateful and looking forward to my second procedure next week. read more

Wyse Eyecare feels like I'm in an assembly line for eye care, with staff hurrying me along. I can never reach the front desk by phone and sometimes they call back days later, same with the billing office. I asked billing to send me a receipt for my payment and this never happened. Whenever I have gone there, they tell me the wait will be 1.5 hours, but it is 2 hours or more. Better to tell me the truth-I know the dilation of the pupils takes awhile. We see the doctor only once to get a second opinion and don't want to see them anymore. After the eye exam, they said I had to PAY to get a prescription, what! Never seen a doctor who sees a patient but charges extra for the prescription! So we paid our copay and didn't get the prescription. Somehow, copay is not enough for them, they kept on sending me bills and called for another $15, which never happened to my other eye doctors, so annoying! read more

I have been going to Dr. Wyse for a long time now, since before she started her own practice. She has always been great for me, and I have never had any issues with the staff. I know that sometimes there can be a wait, but I always come prepared with reading material. If you want the best, you have to assume they will be busy, and my experience there has never been much different than other doctors that I deal with, in fact the staff is more friendly and competent than the average doctor's office imho. About 7 or 8 years ago, I had what could have been a severe emergency, and the office got me right in to see Doctor Wyse, so I know on that day, I was the cause of delays for others, but she and her staff took the time and treated me right. In the last month I had cataracts removed from both eyes and the procedures could not have gone more smoothly, and I am very happy with the results. One other note after looking at some of the other reviews. I happen to be familiar with Epic and the Northshore Computer system, which is what Dr. Wyse is tied into. The whole system does go down at times. But on the day of my emergency, after Dr. Wyse I saw three other doctors that day. Because each successive doctor could call up the tests and notes of each previous doctor who saw me, events moved much quicker than I thought to a final diagnoses that was much better than I feared and kept me out of the hospital. read more

Had my 2nd cataract surgery with Dr. Wyse yesterday, and am very pleased and grateful for being referred to her by Professional Eye Care. I had an unknown issue, not detected by my previous ophthalmologist, in both eyes that is now corrected as well. My wait times were not long at each visit; and each staff member with whom I came in contact was friendly and professional. Fr. Wyse explained everything to me , pre-, during, and post-surgeries. She is that rare MD who is kind and skilled. I understand that her colleagues are just the same as is she. I highly recommend her practice. read more
