The office staff was friendly and the entire eye team went out of their way to make sure I was taken care of. Dr Scott Bornstein gets my rave reviews! His professional and warm personality made the experience totally worthwhile. I was referred to him in 2023 after my previous Optomologist retired. I knew I was going to be a candidate for cataract surgery and two years later I was. I have now had cataract surgery on both of my eyes within the last month. It is truly a miracle after wearing glasses for 50 years to be able to pick out implant lenses. He provided me the option of never having to wear glasses again!! I had an amazing experience with Dr. Bornstein yesterday. I had an infection next to my eye that had to be addressed. I tried to see my dermatologist, but she wasn't in and none of her partners were willing to see me. I called Dr. Bornstein's office since I was very worried about my eye, because my other eye is blind. He said "come over and we'll fit you in"!!! I haven't had a doctor say that to me in years! Other doctors never make an effort to fit me in. They won't stay after their office hours end anymore. Dr. Bornstein was more helpful than my dermatologist. He was more knowledgeable about my problem and next steps than she was! Dr. Bornstein is the best ophthalmologist I've ever had. He was referred to me by a top notch eye specialist years ago. He knows way more than my previous eye doctors knew, he takes the time to listen to you and is a caring and kind human being. read more

I went to Eye Care Ltd in their Skokie office. My previous ophthalmologist retired and Eye Care Ltd was the referral from Dr. Fagman's practice. Dr. Bornstein is a good doctor, but I have better things to do than wait for 2.5 hours for a routine annual exam. To boot, the optometrist transcribed the prescription incorrectly and wrote then power down as -1.35 rather than -1.50. As I'm over 60, my near sightedness has needed less correction than my previous prescription. Anyone that's worn glasses for 30 years would know that -1.35 is not valid! I refused to wait for hours on end for an eye exam. Too bad as this practice isn't far from where I live. read more

My and I husband are new patients to the practice. Dr. Bornstein is very knowledgeable and professional. I had cataract surgery on both eyes with Dr. Bornstein and I could not be more happy with the outcome. He is a great surgeon and very thorough. Tough crowd with reviews. I will agree bring something to do you may wait a while but again these physicians take call at hospitals and as long as I'm comfortable in the waiting room looking at the fish tank (because I'm not actively going blind like people in the ER may be) its worth the wait! Dr Bornstein is thorough and efficient during his exams. I have seen him for over 5 years. I find the office staff to be succinct and efficient as well, they're good at what they do which is keep paperwork organized, answer phone calls, run the office. They may not be into shooting the breeze or offering lemon water but thats also okay with me because they do the hard stuff like sort of insurance issues. Overall Dr Bornstein is excellent. I travel back from out of town, buy a good book, and wait for him to see me because its worth it. And aren't appointment times for patients anyways? Not doctors :) read more

I've been seeing Dr. Bornstein for several years. Because I have had numerous problems with my retinae extending over three decades and because blindness runs I'm my family, it has always been extremely important to me to use a highly qualified ophthalmologist for my routine exams. Dr. Bornstein is such a doctor. Yes, the appointments make take longer than one might expect. However, I have been to at least a half dozen ophthalmologists on the North Shore (looking for a really good one), and for some reason all seemed to have problems with scheduling. Dr. Bornstein 's office seemed about average on this front. For me, Dr. Bornstein's excellence as a doctor outweighs the inconvenience of the wait. Once Dr. Bornstein turns his attention to you, I have found that attention undivided. He takes all the time necessary to explain procedures, answer questions, and address concerns. I have no clue as to the other reviewer's criticism on this front. I don't think I've ever encountered a medical professional who comes across as so completely focused on me and my issues as Dr. Bornstein. Prior to performing my cataract surgery, he thoroughly prepared me for what I should expect and what I needed to do both before and afterwards. I agree that the exam rooms could do with a bit of a facelift but I have never noticed them being dirty, just a bit dreary. However the equipment all seems up to date and that's what really counts. I was in the Sokie office once and, as I recall, it seemed "fresher" if that is important to you. All in all, I highly recommend Dr. Bornstein and his staff. I deducted one star because I have had minor problems on a couple of occasions with one of the women in the office and the waiting times are not ideal. But for sheer quality of medical services, Dr. Bornstein ranks among the best. read more

Good dr but disrespectful of people's time. Many people in lobby complaining of the wait. Including us. And this happened many times.

The front desk staff are very rude and condescending. They fail to treat the customers properly and when the doctor is late or problem arises staff is confrontational....clearly, sending the customer the message -- don't come back. Everyone's time is valuable and no one's time is free. I understand the doctor has emergency patients. If this is a daily or frequent occurrence, I suggest you schedule a time slot or two per day to accommodate your business practice emergencies. If you want to make your business schedule more convenient for yourself by having others wait for you - fine. In my case, it will cost you $57.00 per hour. If you know you're significantly late then call- don't expect kindness from patients who pay for your late service. Can you see me now? Health Care Dollars Walking. I left without being seen by the doctor after being advised I would need to wait at least 1 hour to begin my scheduled appointment. I scheduled personal time off of my first job to see the doctor allowing enough time for me to get to my second job. I can't afford to miss work and then not be treated. read more

I've been seeing Dr Bornstein for many years and I'm very happy with his services, professionalism and knowledge. I've had some eye problems (retinal thinning & tears, etc.) over the years and I trust him to always provide the best treatment, some times getting me in on very short notice when needed. The wait time can be long at times, but it's worth it to me for the quality of the service I receive. I highly recommend Dr Bornstein. His staff have always been friendly and helpful too. read more

Dr Bornstein told me that I needed to have a procedure to both my eyes to prevent a sudden onset of glaucoma. I asked him for some information on the procedure. He wrote the name of the procedure on a prescription pad and said to me "here-do the research" Seriously? A doctor that would not explain an eye procedure to you? Went for a second opinion. Was given both written information as well as a full explanation of the procedure and what to expect. Needless to say, I will not be seeing Dr Bornstein nor would I ever recommend him to anyone. Dr Bornstein always seems pre-occupied. Never makes "eye contact" with you. Even had the nerve to walk out during my examination to dilate someone's eyes. This was my time. After all I waited 3 hours for this pathetic examination. Had the eye procedure by another optamologist. Doing great. Would never let a physician who seemed to be thinking about something other than the patient he is supposed to be interested in do any procedure on any part of my body. Although there can be a fairly long wait to see Dr. Bornstein once the drops for dilation are put in, I have found his exams to be very thorough and unrushed. At one appointment a few years ago, he found a very small tear in a retina-one that had presented no symptoms at all. He asked if I had a few hours free for him to meet me at the hospital and perform a laser procedure that would mend the tear, and when I said I did, he told his assistant to cancel all of his appointments for the next few hours. We met at the hospital, and he corrected the tear. I also find that Mona, who runs their eye glass department, is very knowledgeable about current trends in frames and lenses, as well as which frames look best on me. She has always been very good at helping me pick out the ones that look best on me. read more

My husband was referred to Dr. Berman because of his specialty in neuro-opthalmology, and while our experience with him personally was fine, the overall office visit is a complete nightmare. For a regular vision exam and the neuro exam we were there for over 4 hours--no exaggeration. Of that time, he was probably being examined for less than 1 hour total. The waiting room was cramped and all the chairs faced this big screen TV that played Food Network, all the while we were starving from being stuck there all afternoon. And when we inquired about the long wait time, we were told this was standard. This was why they initially said his appointment would take 3 hours, although they failed to mention when I made it that most of the time would be sitting in their waiting room. Had I known I would have at least brought my laptop. I would have at least appreciated an apology, or at least they could have pretended to try and speed things along. He had to go again for a follow up appointment, and they assured us it would be quicker, but again, it was at least an hour of waiting. I understand that going to the doctor even in this day and age sometimes involves waiting, but there is something seriously wrong with the way this place is run. They will charge you if you don't give them enough notice before cancelling an appointment, even though they are absolutely unapologetic about the extreme inconvenience they put us through by having to give up half our day. Plus, they have just called to try and reschedule another appointment we've made for a couple weeks from now. If we could easily find another doctor with this specialty, we'd have switched doctors after the first time. But at this point, I am ready to go with ANYONE else in order to avoid having to deal with this practice. I have never written a review on Yelp, but I have never been so appalled with service I have received from a business establishment. I wish I could give it zero stars. For all our trouble I'd expect the doctor to be able to miraculously restore my husband's sight to a perfect 20/20. I honestly don't know why people put up with this. read more

Visited Dr. Bornstein and waited 2 1/2 hours. I was there so long that they had to give me dilating eye drops again. There never were apologies for the delay. I might not have been as upset if they had given me any excuses but when I asked the reception person on the way out if there was a reason for the delay but she was snippy and said 2 hours is the usual wait. I think this is very disrespectful to patients and whether the physicians are good or bad doesn't seem relevant if they have no respect for their patients. My husband just listened to me when I complained. He had no comment until he visited this week and waited 2 hours and had the same response from the reception desk. Inexcusable, unless they want to decrease their clientele. He shouldn't have taken me as a new patient if he was too busy. I will not be returning and hope they don't try to charge me for transferring my records that I just brought to them from my efficient, but retired previous ophthalmologist. read more
