We'd been here years ago with my family, post getting engaged, so I do have some good memories associated with Tambu. This visit, however, was less desirable. It used to be a dark lounge, with that fabulous tropical oasis feeling. It also seemed to be a good alternative to Ohana, which it's attached to, with a much more limited menu. This time, it just was too bright. Maybe sitting at the bar would have been better. Also, the cocktails are at the same price point as the far superior Trader Sam's downstairs so unless you're here because you can't get in there, or perhaps for a view of the fireworks, I'd just skip Tambu Lounge. Also worth mentioning that you can bring your kiddos here whereas after 8, Trader Sam's is 21+. read more

I know, I know...before you come at me with pitchforks for giving Tambu Lounge 3 stars, hear me out. Don't get me wrong. All the cast members & bartenders were genuinely friendly. Food & drinks were delivered in a timely manner despite how busy it was. Food was fresh and came out pippin hot. My gripe is how long the standby line is. The lounge area is small. We tried twice to come eat here for dinner time and both times the line was NOT moving. I peeked in the lounge and saw several tables just sitting there and chatting. No active food or drinks...you can tell they were done eating & drinking. Come on man. Please be considerate and get out so the next party can be seated. I feel like they should put a time limit here. Thank goodness I just so happen to see two empty chairs at the bar and the patrons sitting close by were kind enough to tell me these seats are first come, first serve. Jackpot! So we ordered the following: -Yuengling beer -coconut mojito mocktail -potstickers -two orders of their famous Ohana noodles All this hype from social media about these dang noodles. Personally, my husband and I both thought there was a bit too much sodium with their teriyaki(?) sauce. And to be honest, we've had better noodles. Great spot to quickly grab drinks and food at Polynesian Village Resort. When we arrived on a weekend afternoon, there was a long line, so we assumed we would have to wait quite a while. However, the turnover at this lounge was quick, and we were seated after only about 20 minutes. Although there was just one cast member taking orders and clearing tables, she managed everything efficiently and kept the lounge well organized. Our drinks arrived in less than five minutes, even though the bar was very busy and handling to-go orders as well. My white sangria was refreshing, and my husband enjoyed his favorite Hawaiian-sourced porter beer from Maui Brewing Co. Oh, the Polynesian Resort. You are my vacation dream-the perfect mix of Disney/Hawaii-South Pacific and this delicious 70s undercurrent. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Brady's eating Dole Whip out on the lanai or the Love Boat crew temporarily docked here-and I love everything about that! And if Isaac wanted to moonlight away from the Pacific Princess, the Tambu Lounge is the perfect place to do it. The Tambu is tucked away upstairs-next to the Ohana Buffet and just steps away from Kona Cafe, in the light, bright and amazing atrium lobby of the Polynesian's "great ceremonial house." There's a bar with tiki thatching and seats on three sides-as well as a few tables. The tables have amazing views of the lush landscaping outside and the pool area-and Cinderella's Castle at Magic Kingdom. I'm told it's a great place to watch the MK fireworks at night. By day, it's such a relaxing and happy place to sit and savor the view, the vibe and the incredible cocktails! The Tambu drink menu is full of tropical temptations, including the Lapu Lapu, which is served in a pineapple. They also have beer and wine-and after 4pm, they serve appetizers. This time, I tried the Polynesian Mai Tai. The bartender told me the recipe was a vintage, juiceless blend. I absolutely loved it! It was layered and not too sweet... with a gorgeous presentation. It packs a punch-but not a sucker punch. You just feel as warm and relaxed as the ambiance-and totally on vacation, even if you've just driven over from Tampa and are about an hour away from home. From my perch at the bar, I had a great view of the lobby. I felt as sophisticated as I thought all the Love Boat guests were, when they lifted a cocktail. I kept looking for Don Ho. It was a wonderful afternoon. The service was attentive but not intrusive and the price ($16) was quite reasonable, given the setting and strength of the drink. It's a fun place to stop after the parks-or start/end the monorail pub crawl. You can even just come and chill out for a few hours. You don't have to stay here or have a park ticket to get in. Love this lounge. Obviously, the Polynesian resort is beautiful with all the tropical, Disney vibes. The best food options from O'hana for the price of less than once person for dinner. Currently we don't have park tickets, so you have to be creative as you are unable to park at The Polynesian without reservations, but easily done. Sometimes there is a bit of a line to sit around the bar or a couple small table options near the lounge. You can also order at the bar to-go. We came right at opening on a weekday and didn't have a wait. Drinks are tropical and strong. Love the Noodles, Potstickers, and Chicken wings which are the same as you receive at O'hana at decent, sharable portions. They also have the pineapple bread pudding available to order. If the parks are not busy or if it is not a holiday weekend or week, you might be able to actually park at the Polynesian. You can ask the security guard, tell them you are going to Tambu Lounge and park right there. If you cannot, then you can park at the TTC and take the monorail or walk over. This is a very small lounge, with only a few tables but a fantastic view. If you can grab a table, do it! This is an amazing place to watch fireworks from as well, again if you have the table. There are also chairs at the bar. The tables are waited on by a server. This is a perfect spot to lounge, have some drinks and snacks or make a stop on your monorail bar crawl. If you are just waiting for Ohana's I would recommend waiting in the chairs in the waiting area. I would not personally take up a table just to wait for my name to be called since this is a server lounge and they work for tips. You can grab a drink from the bar and take it to go and wait for your table without sitting in the lounge. If you are waiting for Trader Sam's, since the wait is usually 3 plus hours, this is a good spot to grab a pre cocktail and food before heading into Trader Sam's. Their menu is pretty decent. They have a few specialty cocktails and also start serving food at 4pm. We got here about 3:45, it was stop number two on our monorail crawl. We added our name to the Trader Sam's list (it was a 3 hour wait) so we decided to do an additional stop at this lounge. Most of their drinks are on the fruitier side including the Pina Colava, Bahama Mama, the Mai Tai, Backscratcher and Lapu Lapu (served in a pineapple!) My go to here though is the Raspberry Mojito, raspberry rum, mount gay eclipse rum, lime juice, mint, raspberry puree and soda water. It is light and refreshing, it does not taste of rum but it is there! My husband usually goes for really strong drinks, either the Ultimate Long Island or the Whiskey Breeze. On this stop we ordered two different cocktails each and then food. The food is very limited, California Roll, Hot Wings, Pork Ribs and Pot Stickers. We ordered the hot wings and they were very very good. We have also had the pot stickers which are also very tasty. Here is a pro tip: they have additional food not listed on the menu and this includes the noodles from Ohana's as well as the bread pudding with the banana caramel sauce. These are from the restaurant next door and definitely something you need to try! I love both of these and we order it every time we are at the lounge. We really enjoy this spot. This is a walk-up bar, with plenty of seating both at the bar and around the bar. The bar menu is themed around tropical vacation and Polynesian vibes, and the general feel gives you total vacation vibes. I decided on the raspberry mojito, and it was perfect. Before I left, I decided I needed some more mixer in my cocktail because I wanted to savor it rather than feel the effects of the alcohol quickly. This unassuming lobby bar always seems to have a togo line. We waited 20 min in the Togo line and saw two seats open up at the bar. It was a welcome rest for the feet. Of course we had to try the Lapu Lapu (served in the pineapple) and Mai Tai. These drinks were strong and delicious! Probably the best place to get a real drink on property. The right amount of alcohol to fruit/mix. The prices were a little odd. The menu says the Lapu is $19 I was charged $20. Then my bartender told me I could have a Lapu refill for $5 less and the bill was only $4 less. You gotta check the prices folks. Each restaurant around Orlando/Disney decided they would off menu price at least something on our trip. Is this an Orlando trend? My husband and I stopped over here to grab their Keiki lemonade which contains Minute maid premium lemonade, pineapple, passion fruit, and citrus. There was no place to sit at the bar so we got our drinks pretty quickly and took our blue colored drinks out to the seating area just outside O'Hana to enjoy them. These drinks were spot on good!!! The Tambu lounge sits next to O'Hana which means they have a secret menu here that does not appear on their regular menu. You didn't get that opportunity to dine at O'Hana or craving a little more from a previous visit? Well you can special order some of that stuff here provided you do it after 4 PM which is when O'Hana starts its dinner service. For example, those delicious O'Hana teriyaki noodles that come with your meal can be ordered here. In addition you don't want to pass up on that delicious bread pudding O'Hana serves do you now? That pudding is a dense moist cake with pineapple, vanilla ice cream, and caramel sauce. Finally you can get the honey coriander sticky chicken wings to enjoy! These were my favorite dishes at O'Hana and now you can make a mini meal from them. Tambu Lounge is located on the second floor of Disney's Polynesian Village Resort and is my favorite bar at any of the Disney hotels. At any given time of day this bar is packed with people either doing a monorail bar crawl or waiting for table at one of the Polynesian's very popular restaurants. Why do I go there? Well it's for one thing, the Pina Coloda or as they call it here Pina Colava. It's seriously the best Pina Coloda I've ever tasted which has brought me back time after time. Their secret is they use raspberry bacardi rum instead of regular and they also squirt raspberry puree throughout the drink. So tasty! Aside from the amazing Pina Coloda's this bar also offers a limited snack menu after 4 p.m. Over the years the menu has changed but currently I'd recommend getting the bread pudding. There is also a California roll that is quite tasty, it's made with real crab and mayo instead of that fake krab that's normally used. Definitely worth a stop while visiting Disney! Side note: There are only 10 seats available at the bar itself so quick feet and slight stalking may have to be used to snag a spot. Not to worry though drinks can still be made at the service bar and enjoyed at one of the many tables or couches throughout the resort. read more

A great environment to enjoy if your room isn't ready or you're waiting for a table at the adjoining restaurant. There's a small munchies and a lengthy handmade cocktail menu. Naturally beer and wine too. We had a fantastic Mai Tai. We don't love really sweet cocktails. The bartender tweaked the recipe just a little. Voila' fantastic Mai Tai.
