The Tammany Trace is a great nature trail that used to be an old railroad track. It's great for jogging, cycling or just taking a leisurely stroll out in nature. It's peaceful and relaxing and there are covered pavilions dotted along the way with restrooms and vending machines. Many people aren't aware that there is one of these pavilions where the trace intersects with Thompson Road in Slidell. If you drive here, there is an ample parking lot and a really small but great little playground for kids. Bathrooms and vending machines with snacks and drinks are here for your convenience, too. Take some time to visit the Trace whether you're a walker, jogger, cyclist or just want to take the kids out for a little something different to do one weekend.

This is a nice trail, clean paved roads to ride on. Too many stops in my opinion but overall pretty safe and quiet. It wasn't too crowded either so that's a plus. The whole trail isn't very shaded so make sure you've got hats, sunglasses and be SPF ready! The trail goes through a few different stops, we rode 14miles in total and went through Abita Springs which was fun to see a few different things. Would like for some more signs to show where you're at and mile markers to see how far you've gone. But overall, it is a well kept nice bike trail.

Great place to spend the day riding your bike and checking out the northshore towns. When in Mandeville stop by the lakeshore drive and check out the beautiful homes around, then go up to Abita and tour the brewery and ride around downtown, on the way back stop and take in beautiful Bayou Lacombe just do it before the bridge goes up. Overall a very pleasant experience every time. Just beware of the very dangerous yellow lane splitters that can kill if you take your eye of the road.

The Kid Konnection at Tammany Trace is excellent for children of all ages. It is free! There are plenty of parking spaces. The play areas are divided by age groups. These areas are labeled (but not enforced), they are just recommendations about which are more suitable based on your child's age. The playground is gated so parent's do not have to worry about the little ones running out into the parking lot/road. It includes multiple slides, bridges, monkey bars, modern swings, and a large sand pit and much more! There is also a space for some water play, and a shaded pavilion which is ideal for picnics. The majority of this play area is shaded, which is a huge bonus during the summer in Louisiana. There are also benches placed throughout which makes it convenient to sit back and still be able to keep an eye on your child. I'd suggest bringing snacks and cold drinks if you plan to stay a while because I didn't see any concessions. The trail itself is quite beautiful and is quite lengthy at 31 miles. There are covered pavilions with bathrooms & trash cans along the trail. It is perfect for taking a leisure stroll, jogging, and cycling. There are also plenty of delicious restaurants as well. The downside is you may have to stop for cars at intersections. Sometimes the cars will not always stop for you, so use caution and have a great time!

Awesome playground! This playground has everything from fully covered swings and play structures, to huge sand play areas and a water play area. Music play all well landscaped fully fenced and huge. Today they also had food truck Friday where they had the "big fun" brass band playing, and the lakehouse food truck with some classic cajun dishes? We had already eaten so my daughter just got a strawberry lemonade which was great. We both loved the band and stayed for almost their whole set. They played a lot of great dixieland. Made for a great fun day at the park!

And safety is always emphasized. Each lesson starts with grooming the designated horse, saddling up, exercising the horse, and only then, riding. This was a bucket list thing for me and has become a high point of my week. This is a working ranch and stable, not a fancy club. I leave all the stress of daily life behind when I turn down the road into the ranch on Sunday mornings. One special memory is the day we worked in the small arena and she told me to close my eyes while riding. I could really feel the movement of the horse then, and felt no fear at all. A second was the day she pronounced me no longer a beginner and sent me off for a solo victory lap around the big arena. And a third was when we first rode at speed between poles. So far we have worked on three different horses, each selected as the best for that day's learning. I have learned a lot about horses, but also a lot about myself. Rates for lessons are truly reasonable, especially when purchased in blocks of five.

Kelly, the owner, answered and was polite and prompt about getting back to me about an opening that evening. We heading out, and arrived around 4:15. The farm was easy to find, about 30 minutes from the Covington exit off of I-12. It was quickly evident that the farm was a working farm and that friendly dogs were present. However, although the farm was not super manicured and landscaped, it was laid out very well and clean. There was a kennel close to the house which housed alot of eager to let you know they were there puppies. Kelly quickly showed us around, and let us know to review the welcome packet, as it had important information. She showed us the dining room, with its games, coffee and beautiful table. We were next shown our room, the Ponderosa room, which had a microwave, and mini fridge on its screened in porch. The room was beautiful, exuded warmth and the decor was on theme. After reviewing the rules we explored. There is a saltwater pool (closed for the season), a hot tub (that we unfortunately didn't enjoy, no bathing suits) and a fire pit (which we later heavily enjoyed) all close to the house and the rooms. The farm has a gorgeous white pony, 2 burros (one was pregnant), a few goats, chicken, and 2 super fluffy bunnies. We followed the rules as we explored, ie if you open a gate close it. We were escorted by 2 super old and friendly farm dogs, and encountered multiple super sweet farm cats. The fields were a bit muddy, but it had obviously rained a few days before. We only explored one field with horses, but they were super sweet and the fields were well cared for. We went to the local Hog Heaven for BBQ (highly recommend, 15 minutes away, huge portions, delicious). After dinner we headed back and enjoyed the fire pit. We turned in early, because the bed was soooo comfortable. Unfortunately, the temperature dropped super quickly overnight, but it was on the forecast. Breakfast in the dining room the next morning was delicious, the french toast was perfect and the huervos rancheros was authentic. We decided to opt out of the trail ride the following morning because we hadn't packed for the rain (silly us). Kelly however offered coats and gloves, which was a kind gesture and really appreciated. We will definitely be back in the summer and better prepared. A few things to remember about this place, there is a kennel on site as Kelly is a dog breeder, so there is barking and some smell. However, Kelly provided ear plugs in the rooms for the barking and its outside, so the smell isn't terrible. Another thing to note is as this is a small business. check or cash is preferred, since credit card companies charge that nasty transaction fee to businesses, but Kelly will take credit cards if necessary. Additionally, Kelly teaches lessons, does camp, and trails rides, so she knows her horses. Just like any horse person I've encountered over the years, Kelly has a no nonsense attitude about her place. However, she manages to be clear about her farm and the rules while being warm and friendly. This is obviously what she is born to do and she is amazing at it. We will be visiting again, multiple times and with family!

Fraziers' Homestead is a wonderful spot! We went during December, and honestly, the cold weather made it perfect (otherwise I'd be profusely sweating while riding). Our guide was friendly and constantly checked in on us and our horses to make sure we were getting the most from our trail ride. We even saw the owner and shared a good laugh about the "intricacies" of staying on top of the horse. The trail was pretty with bushes and trees filling the space and even a portion where we saw the rest of their horses- I miss it! My only critique would be that the trail ride, for me, was not as long as I would have liked. To be fair, though, I could ride alllll day. This place is great because once you're finished with your trail, you get to go back to their arena and practice riding and/or trotting some more. If you're curious about $$$, I would have no problem paying again. It was 3 of us, and I want to say it was about ~$67/person not including tip.
