I purchased all 3 of Laura's study guides for the math CSETs. If I was only reviewing the first 2,…read morethis would absolutely be a 5-star review: they are amazing, thorough, and exactly what you need to pass! However, I cannot advise anyone to purchase part 3 in good-faith without a strong warning. The material is fine, and she is forthcoming about this study guide being "different", but once you purchase it you'll see the quality-disparity is pretty drastic in a not-so-great way. Laura provides videos where she goes through them, but the questions are not modeled after real CSET questions , which is the entire magic of the first 2. In addition, several of the worksheets assume we can use a calculator, but calculators aren't allowed on the CSET, which proves these questions and worksheets are NOT what we actually need for the test it's supposed to be guiding us on. While I am sure part 3 is sufficient to pass, it feels very bare-minimum compared to the first 2. I think pricing all 3 equally gave a false-impression, since the disparity in usefulness/uniqueness are massive. The first 2 study guides are unlike anything else out there, and set her apart from the rest; but I cannot advise anyone to purchase part 3 unless you don't have any other resources.

There are many unique skills that are not covered very well in school, I call them accelerated learning techniques, all of which are practiced in abundance at the Math & Science Academy. Several of my friends have had their children get expert one on one tutoring with SoCal Math Academy, and have experienced dramatic increases in their grades. It's not a fluke, rather the process they use. As a child (many years ago!), I struggled with basic algebra for years, until I had the right teacher come along. He instilled in me the right way to learn mathematics, and from that point on, I transformed from a C grade student to straight A's in math. That helped me get through college and into a great job in the technology field. You'll agree with me that math, especially in a place like California, is a subject you must master if you desire to get into a highly sought after technical area. I am not bashing the SoCal school system by any means, the teachers are some of the hardest working, yet underpaid professions in the USA. Math has been a fairly strong subject on my part until I got into ap calc ab -- I struggled so much in the class is was taking a mental and emotional toll on my health... I was against getting a tutor at first in hope I could overcome this hiccup on my own, but I'm so glad I eventually caved. Afshin has exponentially helped my understanding and application of math to another level that I could not have done on my own with a teacher that I had. Afshin is committed to his tutoring and he makes me feel very comfortably with my math skills and seeks to strengthen my weaknesses. If you are looking for an extremely sharp, knowledgeable, well rounded person for your tutor/mentor.. look no further than Tammy Chang. I came to her in Jan 2020 to prep for the GRE to apply to business school. She helped me study as well as put together my application by helping with the essay and reworking my resume. I'm happy to say I got accepted into Pepperdine part time MBA program, but it doesnt stop there. Tammys knowledge is what I came to her for, but she also has a great professional network as well. We are so excited! Our daughter improved her ACT score by 5 points after she began studying with Tammy! At first we weren't sure if it is going to work. We never used tutoring for exams before, and definitely not virtually. The big concern also was that after paying a decent amount of money the ACT score would remain the same or even get worse. Don't get me wrong, Tammy has a very reasonable fee, but for us raising 3 kids every dollar counts. What we like about Tammy is how strict but yet supportive she is with teens and how accommodating she is in regard to the schedule. And obviously in regard to contents, explanations and strategies Tammy definitely worked her magic. The results were very unexpected to us. We were just talking to our daughter about how competitive some of the colleges are that she is interested in and how her ACT score might not cut it. Now out of a sudden she is way above average. Definitely one of the best ACT prep tutors out there. Much better priced than other tutors and other ACT prep companies. The teaching methods used are quite effective, focusing on gradual development and building a strong foundation in grammar, algebra, trigonometry, reading comprehension, and many more subjects. I can vouch that I have been to many other ACT prep locations and had a hard time learning new topics that I did not know beforehand due to their strict scheduling, but Tammy Chang Test Prep really puts the student first and not the company to ensure that the student has full knowledge in all subjects required for the ACT. In a few months of tutoring, I have had a 5-9 point increase in every subject category. Tammy Chang Test Prep is also very good at communicating to the student, texting to their phone the day before that there will be ACT tutoring the next day. I am currently a third year Business Major with a concentration in Accounting at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo interested in pursuing an MBA. This summer I was looking for a tutor and am beyond lucky to have found Tammy. Wondering how to improve your ACT score or how to bolster your college applications? Look no further than Mrs. Tammy Chang. I started tutoring with Mrs. Tammy for the ACT extremely late, literally started preparing for the ACT 3 months out from my test date. However, our limited time together did not at all hinder the effect she had on my test results, helping me score a total composite score of 35 on my ACT with a perfect score in math! I would've never scored as high or have been as confident had I not met with Mrs. Tammy. Not only was she helping me prep for the ACT, but she was also helping me with my CSU, UC, and common applications. I'll tell you right now, my essays would've never been as pristine had it not been for her proofreading and suggestions. I turned to Tammy after taking the GRE twice and scoring 160 on the Quant section both times. I wanted to raise my score a few more points to be competitive for MS in Data Science programs, and through biweekly meetings with Tammy a month before the exam, I was able to boost my school to a 166! (I also got 163 on the verbal section - Analytic writing score is pending ^_^) In addition to explaining problems well, pointing my weaknesses, and being the most affordable option of a private tutor in the area, she has a good sense of what the best study materials are/how to use them effectively, which was ultimately what I think boosted my score. I started out with SAT tutoring with Tammy and my SAT score improved over 100 points, but even then I decided that the SAT wasn't a good fit for me. Tammy introduced me to ACT and then I started ACT tutoring with Tammy and reached the eligibility needed for a college scholarship. Tammy is good at explaining things in detail and is especially helpful if you learn through examples. She does not sugar coat things and truly puts effort into not only explaining concepts but making sure the student understands it as well. She guided me through my college application and helped clarify and questions I had with my college essay. I started test prep with tammy in the beginning of this year and I had a lower score than i would've liked on the PSAT and to be honest didn't think i would have improved by as much as 250 points. She started with giving my ACT practice tests which were a lot easier than the SAT practice tests I have done and learning about the ACT (about time efficiency and answering questions correctly) I was able to better prepare myself for the practice test for SATs that she gave me. Her teaching is to over prepare me for the PSAT and at first i didn't think it would be effective but now that I look back on my other scores I see that i've improved quite a bit with her teaching and my confidence in my ability to succeed in college I would say has also increased. read more

Mrs. Chang is an excellent tutor who helped me passed the CBEST test. For someone who struggles in math and comprehension, she showed me many ways of how to tackle the math section and guided me through the reading. I would practice and bring my questions at the start of our tutoring sessions and I would understand better than I did before. Mr. Afshin is great. I'm currently studying for my AP Calculus class with him, and he's very thorough in his teaching methods and explains the concept behind the problems very clearly. I am using Tammy for PSAT/ACT/SAT tutoring in order to prepare for the test. She has been really helpful in raising my scores in practice tests and preparing me for any test situations to come. I found Tammy through a simple Google search and I'm really glad I did. I was studying for the GRE trying to get into a top MBA program and I was playing pro football and hadn't been in school for a while. Our son was a bit nervous for the first meeting as he didn't really know what to expect, but as soon as LeeAnn came in, she put our son at ease. She is so friendly and works great with kids. During the first meeting, she did an assessment to see where he is at. She then met with Taylor who runs Sprout Reading and they developed a plan for him. I really appreciated that they did this, because they could've just helped him read some books that we have at our house or helped him with some of his homework. I really appreciated how thorough everything was. After just a couple of meetings, she was able to explain to me exactly where it seemed that he was struggling. And, then she got to work on helping him through those areas. In just one month, we have already seen an improvement in his reading abilities. His confidence has increased, and his teacher at school has noticed as well. He is a lot more excited about reading and is more eager to try reading things on his own.
