Our 5 year old son had previous swimming lessons last summer, and although the lessons got him adjusted to the water, the skills didn't translate to going swimming with the family and feeling confident in the water. This summer we found Jump Start and had Chloe as his instructor. He only completed 6 lessons - but she helped him so much! He went from being scared in a pool to going to Palm Springs this past weekend and being able to jump in the water alone, swim to safety, and play for hours on end in the water. We have spent the last three summers taking lessons with Ms. Madison who has been very effective in helping my three children become more confident swimmers. My 10 year old and 8 year old were in semi-private lessons together and Ms. Maddie handled them well. My youngest, now 6 years old, can sometimes be a little stubborn but she complied during private lessons with Ms. Madison Le and Ms. Sofia Fex. So glad I found this place on yelp and decided to give it a try. They were very accommodating after we requested Jake to be our daughters' instructor and both Alex and her brother Jake were able to fit my girls into his schedule during the summer. Both of my girls were fearful of the water, to the point where they would scream when water gets sprayed on their faces during a bath, so I thought it would take them a while to get used to swimming. To my surprise, I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw how they were able to jump into the pool on the first day of lesson, and even went underwater! I don't know what Jake did but it worked, and ever since then, they looked forward to swimming lessons every week. At the end of their 10th lesson, they were able to jump into the water, float, go under water, and even able to swim a couple of feet on their own. It's too bad Jump Start doesn't offer lessons year round, so we will wait until next summer to sign the girls up again. Also their prices are very reasonable compared to most places, and each lesson is 30 mins long, unlike most other places that only offer 20 mins. My girls have gone with almost all of the instructors there and they were all nice and friendly, they're great with kids so your kids are in good hands. read more

My grandkids visit for three weeks every summer, and last year I wanted to sign them up for swim lessons. I researched extensively and chose Jump Start because of flexibility of times, reasonably priced for private lessons, and convenience of location. The first lesson my very active, four year old grandson almost refused to get in the pool; by the second lesson, it was hard to get him out! He did semi-private lessons with his sister who is a year older, and both made great progress. My granddaughter gets intimidated by too many other kids at community lessons such as Golden West, but this pool is clean, large and never crowded. They did 10 lessons last year and again this summer. They've had maybe five or six different instructors, and all were patient, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic. My grandkids also liked that there's a treasure chest so students can choose a prize after each lesson. I highly recommend Jump Start. read more

We joined 3 years ago when our first son was 4 years old and it has been a great experience for the boys! The Ocean View HS pool is new and well maintained and all the instructors are friendly and professional. Our second son (3 years-old) was so scared of the pool. He cried/kicked on the first lesson but Miss Alex was able to calm him down quickly and get him comfortable with the water. Now he loves going swimming with her and other instructors. This review is far overdue. I took swimming classes this past summer and I can't be happier. Alex herself was very cooperative in finding me openings. I pretty much had every trainer train me since I was often signing up for multiple classes in a day. Every trainer here is an excellent teacher. They are very patient and will work with you. I totally enjoyed my time here and I am now able to swim as I always wanted to. I may check them again next summer for getting more inputs on my posture but this is just fine tuning of the form. When you call the first thing you hear is music playing and then finally a recording to leave a message. It never said the name of the company which I find weird. My almost 3 year old started swim lessons in May. Initially with Andrew and now with Alex. Both are incredible swim teachers!! She has had about 10 lessons and is close to being able to jump in, float on her back and then swim back to the wall. Andrew and Alex have helped my little one to trust the water and her body. Do you know how awesome it feels to watch your child master water safety skills? If you don't yet, let me tell you, it's INCREDIBLE and it's one of those BIG milestones we often overlook, but it's one of the most essential. This was our first Summer with Jump Start Swimming. My daughter (2 years old) already loved the water, but had no sense of the dangers or how to get air on her own. Previous swim lessons with other instructors from other companies were unproductive and my daughter didn't look forward to the experience. I knew after our interview/trial lesson with Jump Start (Alex) that my child was in much more capable hands. Alex arrived with a basket full of fun toys and a wonderful demeanor that conveyed a sense of confidence and affection that my daughter immediately responded to. My daughter actually had FUN every minute her lesson and was excited for the next one. By the time she had almost completed her 10 lesson package, my daughter had learned to jump into the pool, swim using her arms & legs, roll to her back, take a breath, and then either float on her back, or roll back to her stomach to continue swimming towards a safe zone. Knowing that my daughter now has a healthy respect for the water (she won't enter the water unless there's an adult in the water first - another skill learned through Jump Start) and has the ability to "rescue" herself fills my heart with so much pride and relief. I am certain my daughter's success is the result of the expertise and care Jump Start Swimming provided. I have used Jump Start Swimming for three years in a row. My daughter had lessons at ages, 3, 4, and 5. I have been incredibly impressed by the level of professionalism and effectiveness of the company's approach to teaching swimming. For the first two years, we had Miss Caitlyn as our instructor, and she was impeccable in her service. She was accommodating, on-time, focused during the lesson time, and utilized appropriate skills to make certain my "spirited" daughter remained on-task. This past year we had Miss Marybeth as an instructor. She too was amazing. She was on-top of communicating about appointment times, always punctual, extremely professional, and took my daughter to a level of swimming that just did not entail water safety, but actually helping her form. My kids are taking one-on-one lessons, twice a week for the summer. Jumpstart Swimming offered great service starting from the beginning of registration with helpful and friendly emails with Alex. We tried small group lessons last year at another place and the progress was very slow. 30 minutes private lesson here gets a lot more in and I already saw a big improvement on the second and third session. My 3 year-old had some swimming skills but definitely needed more help. He has had lessons with Alex, Caitlyn and Elaine. All are very patient with him and his very short attention span. They gently redirect him to the task at hand while keeping it fun. The lessons are for the full 30 minutes and always start/stop on time. Now he is on lesson 7 and can swim all the way across the long part of the pool by himself! Elaine has taught him how to float which is the most important thing for me. Last summer (2014) we decided to try Jump Start swimming based on the excellent Yelp reviews and we weren't disappointed! We had tried other private swim lesson options for our eldest son (who was 4 at the time), but no matter how patient the instructor was we couldn't get him fully comfortable in water. That is until we tried Jump Start. Elaine was his instructor and she did an excellent job of putting him at ease while instructing him. He loved it by the end of the summer. In fact, he loved his lessons with Elaine so much when we asked him if he wanted to have lessons again this summer (2015) he said "Yes, but only if I get them with Miss Elaine" Needless to say we will be getting lessons for him again this summer and also get his younger brother (who will be 2) to start his lessons with Elaine as well. read more

We are so happy to have Makenna as our instructor at our home pool. She's friendly, punctual, and attentive. For a parent, I can't ask for a better teacher! My 1.5 y.o. ended up only have 2 sessions because she was a bit too young to take directions well--though she still enjoys going in the pool with us. We are postponing continuing her lessons to next summer. My 3 y.o. daughter is wrapping up her 8th session and she absolutely loves Makenna and swimming. She can swim on the shallow end; getting the hang of floating and turning from belly to her back. She's even feeling comfortable to jump in from poolside and even attempting diving down to pick up toys. With her age, I'm thrilled that she's enjoying herself so much and relieved that her skills will help her stay safe in our pool. My 12 year old son, who has special needs, has taken swimming lessons off and on in the past, but I was looking for an opportunity for him to start learning swim fundamentals and to prepare him for a team. We signed him up for 10 private lessons at Jump Start, and it has been a great experience. When we showed up for the first lessons we were greeted by a young female instructor who had a bag full of pool toys. The instructor was experienced in working with special needs children. She was patient, yet firm, with my child and used the pool toys to motivate my child to work hard and be on his best behavior. She also allowed him to jump off the high dive at the end of class, which my son was absolutely thrilled about. I think this is the best swimming program around, and it is exactly what my son needs to help prepare him for a team environment. Our 2.5 year old daughter loved the water but couldn't do much on her own and wasn't too afraid of the water but after lessons with Sonia, that all changed. She now knows not to go near the water unless she's with an adult and most importantly knows what to do if she is in the water. She immediately floats on her back aka starfish, then she floats or swims to the side to do her monkey crawl. My #1 priority was her safety. I've tried several swim schools with my 4 year old daughter, starting when she was 5 months old- everything from inexpensive group classes to 15 minute private lessons for $30. Thank God I finally found Jump Start swimming! Alex had my daughter swimming across the pool during her FIRST lesson. Previous teachers never pushed her hard enough, they just kept doing the same things over & over. I was amazed at the progress she made. Absolutely amazing experience. The coaches are great with kids. Our son is shy and does not like water but His coach is so patient with him. Our schedule is crazy but they are very flexible and always try to work with us. Half way thru the lessons, our son fell and hurt his arm (no not at the pool, he was running up and down the stairs) and he had to wear a cast. Jump start was willing to work with us to use the remaining sessions with my older one who can swim but needs to improve on her stroking. Overall we are happy with the service and will definitely come back when the boy is ready. read more

Soon after, we were contacted by our assigned instructor, who customized a lesson schedule for our busy lifestyle! I started my daughter in a couple different swim schools since she was 22 months old. Unfortunately, she was so overwhelmed with the larger groups and seeing so many people in one place I guess so she never wanted to participate. I decided to look for swim instructors that can come to our pool since I felt she might be more comfortable in a familiar environment. I was so happy to find this swim school. My daughter has been with Coach Alex for a while now and she's learned so much from her. She is water safe now and could actually swim across the pool at the age of 3.
