From day one, Joel was transparent, forthright, and took the time to walk me through every step of the process, not just what was happening, but why it was happening and what each choice meant for my future. He's the kind of person who doesn't hide behind jargon or canned answers; instead, he gives you clarity and confidence by being completely honest and thorough. Throughout the process, he made himself available whenever I needed to talk, and no question was ever too small or too "beginner." He talked me through interest rate options, loan structures, and timelines, always making sure I understood the pros and cons of each decision. I never once felt pressured, rushed, or like I was being sold something. When the house I was trying to buy hit a rough patch during inspection, with serious questions about the foundation, Joel was sympathetic, calm, and reassuring. He didn't try to push me in one direction or another; he simply offered clear information and possible paths forward, letting me decide what was best for me. That mix of expertise, patience, and genuine human empathy is rare. Joel also has a sincerity about him that's immediately disarming. He's personable without being performative, the kind of person who listens fully before responding. I could feel that he genuinely cared about me as a client and as a person, and that authenticity made a stressful process much more manageable. I walked away from closing not just with a home, but with a deep appreciation for how much smoother and more transparent Joel made the entire process. I can say with complete confidence that I trust him, and I'd recommend him to anyone who wants a loan advisor who leads with honesty, warmth, and real integrity.

I entered the home buying process and searched for a lender. I got 3 quotes from 3 lenders,…read moreincluding Mortgage Express. I was paired with Loan Officer Jordan McKnack. Very professional and communicative! Jordan presented me with options and when I brought a quote from another lender, Jordan said he could match or beat it. They did, indeed! The underwriter was a bit slow, but Jordan was reassuring. No matter how many times I reached out in a day, Jordan was patient and responsive. Right before closing, he took a vacation out of the country. Jordan assured me I could still reach out. I was hesitant, but did and tried to keep communication minimal as not to disturb him. Anytime I reached out, he responded quickly, even being in a completely different time zone. I had a bump in the road - something came up in one of their consumer report checks and I thought my dream of buying a home was over. Jordan took care of it. He asked the company to remove it and they did! It took about two days and I felt back on track and ready to close. The interest rate I got matched the other lenders. Some of their fees seemed a bit high, however I was able to get a large enough loan to buy the house I knew my family and I wanted and needed. Mortgage Express sold my loan, however, I knew that going into the process. After closing, Jordan welcomed me to reach out to him with any questions and I did. He responded quickly and pleasantly. Mortgage Express did not make me feel like just another number. I would go through them again! From identifying the home I wanted to purchase and making an offer to closing was about 30 days exactly! I've heard horror stories about closing delays, but between my realtor, lender, and escrow company, they made it happen quickly! If you decide to go with Mortgage Express, a PHC (Portland Housing Center) partner lender, ask for Jordan. He is the best!!

Our experience was working with Don Haber on a home purchase…read more We thought our rate was locked in after receiving our Good Faith Estimate until about two weeks later when the rates hiked up. The very day the rates were at their highest during our escrow, Don called us asking if we wanted to lock in our rate in case the rates increased further. I was confused thinking that our rate had already been locked in, but we chose to wait in hopes that the rates would drop back down, and they did slightly, but not as low as they had been for the first 2 weeks of our escrow. I found it a little sketchy that the first time he felt the need to talk to us about locking our rate was at the worst time possible for us to do so. It seems to me that the right thing for anyone in that position to do would be to have a conversation about locking in mortgage rates right after or even before the buyers go into escrow. If he had done that we would have locked in at that time. Our mortgage will end up costing us $10,000 more over the life of the loan because of this lack of communication. In his defense he credited us part of his fee in the closing costs but we were still left pretty soured about the deal. I'm not sure if the way our mortgage was handled was intentional or accidental but either way it could have been a lot better for us.
